Just a few months ago, I was independent and had an exciting job I loved. Now, along with my friends, I'm in hiding.
Why? Because I'm one of the Five, a group of human women bestowed with powers and abilities to fight and control supernatural beings. A prophesy was written about us centuries ago. We are supposed to save the world, though none of us knows how.
Now, Cornelius, the leader of a malevolent group known as the Faction believes that by killing us and absorbing our power, he will become unstoppable in his bid to control not only the supernatural domain, but the entire world.
After evading capture and an attempt on my life forced me into months of hiding, I finally have a chance to take action against the Faction — as bait. Asher Leroux, the vampire tasked with helping me, makes me feel things I don't understand. It's as if he fills the empty places in my soul, spaces that I didn't know existed.
As the final battle draws closer, I know that defeating the Faction won't give me back the life I once had, but maybe that's not such a bad deal after all.
Born and raised in Texas, C.C. Wood writes saucy paranormal and contemporary romances featuring strong, sassy women and the men that love them. If you ever meet C.C. in person, keep in mind that many of her characters are based on people she knows, so anything you say or do is likely to end up in a book one day.
A self-professed hermit, C.C. loves to stay home, where she reads, writes, cooks, and watches TV. She can usually be found drinking coffee or wine as she spends time with her hubby, daughter, and two beagles.
"A copy of this book has been provided by (the amazingly talented) C.C. Wood for a (probably very biased) review (because she one of my most favorite(ist) Indie Authors)"
LOVED Shannon and Asher's story!
Asher is a 500 year old vampire who has seen and done a lot in his existence, but once he meets Shannon - he knows she's his mate. Shannon knows this to be true as well.
" Asher stepped over the threshold, his blue eyes locked on me. Something deep inside me shifted, like two pieces of my soul were finally fitting together. They clicked into place and, for a moment , I thought everyone in the room heard it."
This is "My" Asher
There is a definite attraction and sexual tension between Asher and Shannon, but both are in no way able to act on it considering the prophesy and all the shit Cornelius has caused... until Shannon is asked to go undercover with Asher.
This is where the story gets really good. Asher and Shannon finally get the opportunity to get to spend time together and get to know each other- their strengths, weaknesses, and insecurities. Shannon begins to realize what a 'sweet talker' Asher is
This is an AMAZING ending to one of my favorite PNR series'. I love ALL the characters in each of the books, and it was wonderful to see everybody together again one last time in this story.
I was sooooo looking forward to the ending of the Bitten series. This is it...the grand finale, the boss-fight - all the 5 friends will stand together to defeat the evil Cornelius once and for all and live HEA with their hot and loving supernatural mates. It should be full of girl-power bad-assery, snarky tough talking, multiple explosions, who's dead and who's not suspense .......
But it was not the case. Hmmmmmm..........................sigh......
The story picked up where we left off....Shannon is not an administrative assistant at some security company but a bad-ass fully trained occasional field-agent of the said company. And she also has the gift of psychic vision. It's been getting stronger since she's been hanging out with the "supes" and she's just got a vision on how to end the villain. But there's a catch. She's got that strong hunch that she's got to get herself turned ASAP. Cue Asher Leroux who has been eyeing her from afar and keeping himself aloof all the while. She needs a vamp to turn her but he'll be linked to her forever. Luckily they're secretly attracted to one another.
The story focuses a lot on the romance between the MCs - the acceptance of their circumstances are rather quick and expected. But one thing that stood out to me was that the female characters were forever jumping in outrage. No intelligent banter, no subtle yet witty put-downs.Throughout the whole story the women were being loudly indignant about their right to make their own choices, they are strong enough, they are their own person and so alpha males (or anyone with a dick for that matter) back off! I am all for women's right to her own choices and being independent. Maybe it's just me because i believe that a woman can be bad-ass and exert her own brand of power in a and subtle way with less over-reaction (and i have read stories where the heroines embody that and i've always loved those characters -because it says you can also be classy and cool about it).
And to add, there's a new player in the game. Where did he come from? Is this supposed to be a plot twist? The story in the end seems to be letting the main guys play in the background. The boss fight was tame. As a reader i didn't get the feeling of danger or urgency. The villain was snuffed out so efficiently that i almost missed it.
I can't help feeling underwhelmed by the ending - the whole story for that matter. After all the build-up from the previous books of the series, I was expecting a fierce showdown. But what i got was a rather watered down ending with more focus on the loved up pairs. Just felt this story didn't really do justice to the ones before. Nonetheless, i am still rating it as a 2-star because there were parts which were really sweet and sexy and really, i just want to know the ending.
'I was the only one still single. Not that it bothered me. Alpha men were sexy in books, but more of a pain in the ass in reality.'
While I am so sad to see this series end, we have been building to this moment from the start and CC did not disappoint. Asher and Shannon's story has been long coming and much awaited. Desperate to see how Shannon's powers developed and what role they would play in the final battle to set the five fully free, I was very eager to start this book and could not put it down once I did.
''Though I'd only been around him a few times, Asher stirred emotions in me I'd never experienced before.'
As a sensitive, Shannon is learning to trust her hunches and when one of those hunches leads her to living with the sexy vampire Asher nothing is ever the same. The more and more she is around all the supernatural the more her powers strengthen and develop. It doesn't take long for her to see the way out of the massive ordeal the girls are in. The 5 girls are back together and show us the definition of strong heroines.
'I wasn't sure what came over me, I liked sex, hell, I loved it if the guy was right, but this was something different, something elemental.'
Epic fights, a sexy love story and characters we all now truly love this book was just what I was hoping for. I have loved this whole series and all these couples deeply and while I am sad to see it all end I am excited to see what C.C. brings us next.
This was a great finale to a great series. Everything I like about this book has been true throughout the series. The book is FUNNY. I've been seeing a trend of authors trying to make characters so over-the-top funny, that they are really just annoying. Not every sentence needs to be a smart-ass comment. C.C. has mastered this, so the characters talk like funny real people. C.C. has also found this perfect balance in world building, where it is not so detailed that you get bored and give up, but enough that you are completely immersed in the series, and can't stop reading.
I'm sad this series is ending. I really enjoyed reading it. But it looks like C.C. will be doing another series. I certainly hope Luca, Duncan and Rhys will be in it. I am really interested in reading about them.
I've stated that I'm not a huge reader of paranormal romance, I'm not sure why exactly but with the exception of the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, the Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson and the fantasy classic The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien I've never really had the urge to read them, and yet I read CC Woods Love Bites and I was so utterly invested that I couldn't put it down, nor could I maintain my claim that paranormal romance wasn't for me.
In the final instalment in the Bitten series Shannon is at a cross roads, her life and the lives of her closest friends has been put on hold, in hiding, alone and desperate for a way to end this war that they have been fighting against Cornelius and The Faction, she's ready to resort to desperate measures to finally ensure her friends are safe. When she approaches Connor to turn her into a vampire, she thinks she finally sees a way out of all their problems. Vampire lore states that there are rules to adhere to for turning people, there's sacred bonds that form, and lines you can't cross, which leaves Shannon at the mercy of the unmated vampires, like Asher Leroux.
Shannon has guarded her heart for a long time, her friends have found their chosen mate, but she's never understood or felt that soul deep kind of connection that they seem to have found, but with Asher she feels something intense, other worldly, something different to anything she could of imagined, but if she's going to have a chance at ending the war they are facing she might have to admit to the attraction she feels and put more than just her body on the line but her heart as well.
CC Wood created a fun, fast, sexy, action packed thrill ride, Bite the Bullet was sexy and scintillating, everything about this story sucked me in, held me captive, and made me desperate for more, Shannon was the kind of heroine I adore, strong, feisty, determined, she's not scared to put herself on the line, she's faced more situations that would leave me crying in the corner than I would like to admit, but more than that she's got a huge heart that I couldn't help loving her even more for. Asher may have been the big strong vamp in this story but for me the hero of this story is Shannon. Bite The Bullet had me utterly captivated, I was invested from the very first page as we stepped inside Shannon's mind and buckled in for her adventure, everything about this story held me on the edge of my seat, desperate for more, CC Wood found the perfect balance between sexy and swoon worthy romance, between action and adrenaline, between fantasy and reality, everything about this book left me both sated and desperate for more, I've made it my resolution to start at the beginning and dive into Love Bites this week, it seems Ms Wood has made me realise that I might just be a fan of paranormal romance after all.
NOTE: this review is being posted a couple of days after I finished the book BECAUSE I HAD TO READ IT AGAIN as soon as I finished it. Yep! It was that good.
I finally got my hands on the fifth and final book in this series! At the same time I'm very sad to see it go. Very, very sad. At least I can reread this series! (as I'm currently doing)
This is Shannon's book, though we get cameos from all the previous characters. Yay! Shannon thinks she needs to be turned into a vampire, and there are a few single male vampires that are happy to do this for her. But is that what's best for her? And why does Asher keep looking at her like that? Ahhh... there's so much I can say but I don't want to spoil any of it! Does Shannon have her own abilities that will help the others? I'm not gonna tell you! You have to read it yourself.
This is the end of the series, and author C. C. Wood definitely did this series right. We have suspense, we have action, we have steamy scenes and humor, and this book wrapped up the entire series nicely giving us enough closure while leaving us wanting just a little more. (Maybe if we bug the author, we can get a couple novellas to continue these characters, huh C.C. Wood???) This is a 100% complete, HEA series people! Read it!
But WAIT! There's more! Because at the end of the book, the author tells us that she will write a NEW series called 'Blood and Bone', which will continue the stories of several characters from these books that maybe didn't get their HEA's! Oh! That means we get to read more about.... NOPE... not gonna name the characters I'm hoping for. I don't want to jinx anything. I'm just excited that some of these other characters' stories will continue!
This was definitely my favorite in the series!! Loved how Shannon and Asher got along and handled each other, Shannon was much more accepting of Asher and how he was than any of the other girls were which made for a more enjoyable read! This was a fun pnr series, i love when a series' books are connected all the way through! Looking forward to all the books in the spin off series, hopefully it won't be along wait!
I truly loved this series and Bite the Bullet didn't disappoint! The story revolves around Shannon and Asher and the impending battle our gang will be fighting against the Faction. There are some twists and turns, plus some humorous moments.
Great book! If you have read the series so far you must read this one. You won't regret it.
ARC....I'm sad to see it end...but what an ending!!! Shannon reveals her strengths and finds her powers as they figure out how to battle Faction and bring down Cornelious....it's a must read to find out how and what happens to "The Five"!
As the conclusion to the Bitten series, Shannon and Asher's story was the polishing finish to the plot that thrust five friends into the supernatural world.
I've loved the 'Bitten' series, and 'Bite the Bullet' is its finale. I do not recommend this as a standalone, because there is a lot of building up to this point. But I do highly recommend this series if you like a great paranormal series with fun characters, sexy romances, and a captivating world.
As for 'Bite the Bullet,' I definitely enjoyed it. I felt like I flew through the pages, looking forward to the conclusion we've been speculating since the start of this crazy ride. Not only do we get Shannon and Asher's love story, but we also get cameos from all the characters we've come to love. Seeing the quintet of couples, coordinating with the women of the Prophecy of Five, was great, and greedily, I always want more of them.
The overall storyline and action of the book was exciting. There was much to look forward to. But since Shannon is gifted with seeing the future, even if it's just bits and pieces, I felt like even these insights made the story a bit anti-climactic at times for me. I like the element of surprise, so the foreshadowing and prediction lessened some of the excitement. Now, I still loved following the storyline and my favorite characters, but it wasn't at the same anticipatory level as the previous books.
I also liked Shannon and Asher. Their transition from acquaintances to lovers was fairly smooth. They have great chemistry, a clearly destined attraction, some really great moments, and I really enjoyed their relationship. I loved the way Asher spoke of them. But once again, I was left a little wanting with this area of the story as well. I needed more depth to their interactions. While we get a lot of insight into Shannon, and her near obsession with independence (which started to get annoying, until she finally caught herself), but I didn't feel like I got to know Asher nearly enought. He was such an easy-going, "sweet talker" of a guy, and I liked that he was different from the other heroes of this series, but I wanted more from him, probably because I very much liked his character.
So overall, I still really enjoyed this finale. I loved where everyone ended up in the end. I'm sad to see them go, but fortunately, the author has informed us that her 'Blood and Bone' series will continue the stories of several characters from these books. I have a list of characters I'm really hoping this will include, one of which was introduced in this book. Can't wait!
I was provided an ARC for a honest review of this book. Thank you C.C. Wood!! Honestly, I would've bought the book anyway. I LOVED THIS BOOK. It's taken me forever to write this review because I'm sad to say goodbye to this AWESOME series! I fell in love with the Bitten series from book 1 and have not been disappointed throughout! Paranormal books are always so sexy and fun and C.C. Wood takes it to a whole new level. I've wondered about Asher since the very first book and couldn't wait until his time came. I knew he had to be one of the five and of course it was only a matter of time until he set his sights on Shannon. I love their chemistry, their sexual tension, their love story, but most of all their banter! Shannon: "I stared at the back of his head and imagined bitch slapping him. It made me feel better." Asher: "Did you just growl at me?" This book is sexy, scary, and funny! I laughed out loud many times. That's Asher and Shannon...
Another part of the book that I love is how the women just kind of do what they want and their men, these strong, alpha, hundreds of years old vampires are helpless to stop them! These women are powerful in their own right, coming into their own beings/powers and they will do anything to protect each other and their mates. They have a strong bond they makes them all sisters. They are definitely a fun couple and I love how they push and pull each other... Rhys and Cornelius?? They're a whole other box or rocks. Cornelius is evil to the core and Rhys is unfortunate enough to be his twin. I wouldn't want to meet either of them in a dark alley without some type of super power.
I'm sad to see the series end, but I know I'll read it again, and again....who am I kidding, I've already started reading the series again! :)
First let me say that I stumbled upon this series about two months ago and read the first four books in a week! I just love the world and the characters the author created. The other four books were five stars reads but this one honestly fell short.
Asher and Shannon are the couple featured in this book. Both characters are very wooden and flat to me. Absolutely no depth. Asher comes across as quite wimpy. He's not at all like the alpha makes portrayed in the other books. Shannon however does come across as an alpha male. There was no sparks, bumps in the road, or even passion between the two. The sex scenes were just boring.
Why two stars? It was a good ending to the plot carried throughout the entire series. I love this author. I have enjoyed most of what she has written but it felt like this book was rushed and as a result the story lacked depth. I just couldn't connect to the characters.
All in all the series is good. She creates a wonderful world that draws you in and leaves you wanting more. Definitely pick up the first four books. I couldn't put those down. I had to force myself to finish this one
What a great ending to a wonderful paranormal series. Shannon is one tough chick and she's not as surprised as the others about things that go bump in the night. Asher is the sexy vampire who is tasked with helping Shannon prepare for the battle with the Faction. One look at Asher and Shannon felt her soul settle. There's nothing like soul mates, vampires, hot sex, and battle for survival. CC Wood's Bitten series has taken the readers on a epic journey of self discovery, fate, love, sex, friendship, and ties that bind. I've loved every second of this journey and I'm sad it's over but what a awesome way for it to end. If you love vampires, shifters, and things that go bump in the night then read the Bitten series.
Wow, the stunning conclusion to the Bitten series is the best yet. From Donna meeting Conner in book one (Bite Me) until the final battle with the Faction and beyond, Ms Wood has made the characters so real that i feel like I'm one of their close knit group. Asher was a surprise to me as through Shannon we started to see past his facade. I wish there were more books coming, of other supporting characters like Duncan, Luca, Rhys, the coven and the pack. You could read this as a stand alone but i definitely think you'd get the most kick if you read Donna, Kerry, Ivie, and Ricki's stories first. Thank you CC for this great book
Bite the Bullet was a great read. Perfect ending to the last of the series(sniff sniff). Shannon and Asher's story gave you laughter, suspense, action and some steamy sexy time.
I have to admit that i'm sad this was the last of the Bitten series. I cried a bit at the end. But I know the author will totally make up for it with her future books, she is just awesome like that.
I totally recommend you read the Bitten series. It will not disappoint.
I don't know what I can say about this series. I don't know where to start. I loved Shannon's spunkiness and I LOVED Asher!!! All the feels!!! Such a fantastic ending to this series. I just wish it wasn't ending.
The Bitten Series remains the first Paranormal series I've read and LOVED. I'm not one for Paranormal, sci fi, fantasy stuff but Cc Wood has changed that for me with this series! Can't wait for more from her!
This was a great series and I am sad that it is over!!!! I loved Asher and Shannon's story and the finale of the conflict with The Faction and Cornelius did not disappoint. Every single one of these alpha males and their strong willed & sassy women provided hours of great entertainment for me.
I too hope to see Chloe, Luca, Duncan and Lachlan in the next series....Pretty please C.C.??? ;-)
I had been waiting on pins and needles for this book. I don't typically like paranormal. I loved that this book had strong female characters who didn't let the Alphas push them around. I loved the story line from beginning to end.
I will miss these characters and I will have to annoy her with requests for novellas over and over again until she relents.
So sad to see this series end. I loved all the books. I loved the witch, shifter and vampire involvement. I loved how each friend had their own abilities. The women were strong and all had alpha mates. They clashed at times which was funny but they were all so great together. I can't wait to read the spin off books!!!
I've loved the previous books in the Bitten series. This last book is Great!! I love this last book even more!! This is #5 in this series - all are very very good. I am hoping for a sequel! Thank you C.C!!
So sorry to see the series end. What a ride and I loved every moment. Great writing, great characters, amazing sex scenes. What more could as an avid reader as for?
I'm on the fence about this book. While I enjoyed it because it was also the last in the series, I find myself wanting to review it more harshly (but I'll try to stay objective to just the book). I liked it. Not the best of the series, but not the worst. Sharon's character is a bit more brash, but I can appreciate a fierce independent woman who gets things done. I did feel like a lot was rushed to keep the book under a certain page count which was a shame. Even a little more development in character and relationship development would have done wonders. The overarching plot while summed up seemed, again, needlessly rushed and, again, added sudden subplots/minor characters too quickly to really enjoy. I also felt a few inconsistencies really distracted me on things like character timelines and backstories. While I'm satisfied for the most part, I find myself hesitating to read the next spin-off series because while I would love to know the further stories of some of the minor characters (especially Chloe), I feel like the same issues repeated themselves in every book.
No real complaints here...even though we knew the outcome, I still felt the way the author finished out the final battle was kind of great. I really like Asher, I think I likeShannon too, but there something about Asher that is almost sweet and gentle, totally different from the others. Calder is still my favorite, but I hear there are more about his pack in other stories that I am excited to read!
I appreciated this addition to the story, I appreciated how insightful Shannon was and I appreciated her relationship with Asher. I felt, at time, she was a little over-confident and her need for control was a tad bit annoying, but at least she was able to be reflective in that process. I still don't get the purpose of Ivie and I would of liked to have seen a little more fighting from this five as they were fulfilling a prophecy...however...I'm context. Not a bad series, if you can over look some of the cringe-worthy things that happen with Lex and Ivie and get over the 'wishwashiness' of the females of the story, it was good. For the series definite 4 stars for this 4.5...I am happy
I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.
Shannon was an independent woman with a job she loved - then the prophesy came along and she and her friends are all in hiding. Now, along with her friends, she is in hiding so that Cornelius (leader of the Faction) can't kill them all and absorb their power so he can control the world. Then she gets the chance to become bait and work with a 500 year old vampire called Asher Leroux who has made Shannon's soul complete.
Just WOW - I loved this story and the dramatic conclusion to the series although I felt that there was more that could have been said about the various friends, their partners and what happens next. I guess I just didn't want the story to end. It was well written, I could feel the emotions and feelings that the characters were going through and empathise with them. Please write a Bitten #6.
Well that was. . . . hmmmmm. First of all I hesitate only because I wasn't a big fan of these two. In this the final book it all comes together with a bang. Shannon is off the chain but just like her character comes off untouchable, but then that is the type of person her character is described as very strong, independent, wants her male co-workers to not defer to her because she is female. So for this reason I am not surprised she felt untouchable. As for Asher, well like all of the men he turns to mush when he finally gets his soul mate. Poor thing. Anyway action continues and there is finally a resolution to all of the problems they have been having but it just seems to give them more to look forward to. . . clean up.
I love the ladies and the men who love them. The group of them make this series a winner. The excitement and the passion they share are off the charts and help provide a well rounded read.
