Witches have always worried, scared, and fascinated people in equal measure. From dark magic to home remedies, they have been part of the cultural landscape for people across the world. From Europe to the Americas, Asia to Africa, the idea of women who delve deep into magic has created some of the most enduring stories in the history of humanity. Often, these stories blend the real with the unreal, truth with fiction, and magic with the mundane. In this book, we will look at witches from across the world and many thousands of years.
But witches are not always welcome. Often, they are feared. People worry about satanic practices and dark magic. Should a child fall sick, it is not uncommon for people to blame a local woman. Many have been falsely accused of witchcraft throughout history and, sometimes, these people have been killed as a result. Sometimes, even the rumored practice of dark magic can be enough to condemn a person to be burned at the stake.
Throughout this book, we will look into the history of witchcraft as it has been practiced by people over the ages. Not only that, but we will look into some of the spells that they relied upon for their power. By studying their specific arts, we can better understand the scope and the power of witchcraft. If you would like to know more about history’s most powerful witches, then read on and get to grips with some of the strangest, oddest, most magical, and most twisted tales in human history."

"witchcraft throughout history has always fascinated people"
I have enjoyed learning about different women (witches), not often spoken about in history but had shown how the witchcraft trials deeply affected women. i have found out that in some cases pregnant women were often killed whilst pregnant due to fears of them bearing the spawn of the Devil.
Additionally, in Sweden during the "Great Noise", one woman became the last woman hung for witchcraft, the first burnt alive in Sweden, whilst protesting her innocence. Even the author has shown that some of the women accused/suspected by their own family members. Particularly during the "Great Noise", daughters would accuse their mothers of kidnapping and murdering their children.
although i have enjoyed listening to this, i would have preferred a much longer detailed book, not written like a story like this one is.
overall i rate this 4 stars, i recommend reading this to all history of witchcraft fans.

“The fear of witches has long been indicative of how they are views wd by the world.”
This was an interesting read, each chapter focuses on a witch and a spell is provided at the end of each chapter. A picture was also provided at the beginning of each chapter which I liked.
I liked reading about King James vI - “For any witches in Scotland in the 1500s, their lives would be forever altered by Jame’s fateful voyage.
Rather simple, and when it comes to 'spell they were using' - presumptuous. Once you state that there's zero evidence that somebody living in 16th century was a witch, you really shouldn't try to squeeze in a modern wicca spell as 'something she might have been using.' Choose between a historical account or a bunch of hastily glued together spells.
This book did not wow me as I was hoping. Many of the accounts seemed like tales with no real evidence of being true. I enjoyed some of the tidbits from various witches named but overall felt as if the book was more about dark actions and revenge through out the ages.
I enjoyed this. The spells are great and the stories of the witches are informative. I would tell you to read this if you are interested in witchcraft history.
From a historical sense, this book was informative. I am glad I was not named Agnes. Seems Agnes people were the mostly accused according to this book. I love reading about the witch trials. This book read too much like a stereo manual and less like a story. I could not tell if it was nonfiction or some historical fiction. I was glad to finish it. It was not completely awful but you have to be more into historical writing without entertainment to be into this book.
