Opposites don’t just attract—they ignite…Russ is always ready to swoop in and save the day, which makes him the perfect fire fighter. When he agrees to take a professor on a wilderness research trip, he can’t believe his eyes when she turns out to be the one-night stand who’s haunted his dreams. He vows to get her back in his bed. Only this time, he’s not letting her go.Bea definitely doesn’t do one-night stands. But when she comes face-to-face with the smoking hot fire fighter who broke all her rules, there’s nowhere to run come morning. And when he makes it clear he wants another shot, she’ll need to figure out if its time to throw the rules out for good. When their trip takes a dangerous turn, Bea and Russ have to pretend to be married in order to survive. But as their faking begins to feel all too real, can their relationship move from fiction to fact?
This was a semi-frustrating read, because it sort of felt like a couple books mashed into one. There's a good story about a woman who has been told her whole life that she's difficult and has decided accordingly that she is and that no one could be interested, and the man who sees all that and wants her anyway, but that was only like half the book. And even in that half, the simple inability of the characters to actually meaningfully communicate was hard to read because I just wanted to knock their heads together.
And all that is complicated by their run in with people illegally growing pot and living illegally off the grid and a forest fire (fireman hero, should have guessed that part), so it's like half miscommunication and half adventure.
I could have liked both stories a lot more than I did, I'm just not sure they go together.
Whenever I’ve had my version of a reading slump, I turn to Genevieve Turner and she reliably pulls me out of it. I gobbled this up! Russ and Bea had such an interesting dynamic—she never thought she’d see him again (and would have been fine keeping it that way) but he is so glad they did. I enjoyed their trip through the San Jacinto Wilderness Area. Turner knows how to bring a setting to life and she did it to great effect here. Bea’s research into opioids fascinated me, as did her quest to retrieve a particular flower. I hadn’t thought much about the specifics of medical research before.
There were a few things I wish had been fleshed out a bit better, such as Russ’s thoughts about going back and forth between the US and Taiwan as he was growing up. It was mentioned a few times but never went anywhere, in favor of Bea’s illogical determination that he wanted to be a hero just because he’s a firefighter and likes Superman. Similarly, I wanted to know more about why Bea’s family pigeon-holed her and why she was so sure most people wouldn’t like her, to the point where taking the risk with Russ wouldn’t be worth it. The internal conflicts were sacrificed in favor of the external and those choices verged on over the top for me, particularly Russ’s grand gesture.
In any case, this swept me away despite its flaws and I’m grateful the pages couldn’t turn fast enough. Turner’s series are interconnected so it was fun to get glimpses of Bea’s cousins and know their romantic fate (or know that it’s yet to come.) I’ve been so curious about how Russ and Bea’s relationship came to be and I’m glad to now know. I really love this whole world.
Characters: Russ is a Chinese American firefighter, paramedic, and wilderness guide. He has an Australian shepherd named Jax, who really did seem like the best dog ever. Bea is a white neuroscientist and professor (she does have a great-grandfather who was Japanese but she seems to present and identify as white.) She has two cats. This is mostly set in the San Jacinto Wilderness Area.
Content notes: secondary character with congestive heart failure, arson/wildfire, FMC researches opioids and pain management, illegal marijuana field, pregnant secondary character on bedrest, on page sex, alcohol, past inebriation, recounting story of college classmate who had a heart attack in class, gendered insults, ableist language, reference to substance abuse and overdoses (FMC’s research involves trying to prevent that)
I don't like giving poor reviews. It gives me heartburn. I couldn't finish this book. The female lead, Beatriz, was just too negative and one dimensional. For the life of me I don't understand why the hero even liked her. Using the reason he is a "people pleaser" to explain his behaviour is odd. Maybe if they were both hard to get along with but couldn't fight their attraction would have opened up the opportunity of more humour.
This us a cute story about to dedicated people to there profession , ones a firefighter and medic and the other a scientist that trying to find an answer for a pain killer that doesn't have all the side effects. Ones out going and ones straight laced and doesn't very off her intended path. Until a blind date that's gifted her with a good looking fireman. From here the fun begins. Have fun reading
A hunky, smart firefighter guide and a very nerdy, driven, female scientist. They have a one night stand past and meet again when he's asked to guide her to some very rare flowers. A two day trek turns into a rock slide, an illegal marijuana field, hippies illegally living in the forest and a forest fire. The sparks fly between them. Recommend
Bea was one fun and almost impossible to like character. Your descriptions of the hike, the plants and all they went through were terrific. What a guy Russ was. One hot firefighter who was all smiles, kind and loving. I look forward to reading more of your stories.
Bea and Russ. She is an independent woman who is a scientist. He is a firefighter and also a hiking guide. A blind date, a one night stand, hot 🔥 sex, then the hike to get her plants.
Loved the book. I'm not a big reader of contemporary romance but this book I did enjoy. It was easy reading with no missing time or disjointed events. Would recommend this book who are into this genre.
Sweet, fun, and i like the characters, but I'm not actually sure if I like the way it flows as there just seems to be something either missing or not quite right, and I can't decide which.
An okay read but to be honest didn’t particularly like the female lead as she seemed pretty cold and fixated. The story was slow to warm up but was just okay.
Rescued by Her Firefighter is a fun, sexy outdoor adventure romance. I think I fell in love with Russ within the first chapter. He is just a nice guy. It is so refreshing to read a story with a great guy who is not a billionaire or an alpha-hole. He is a firefighter who is also a hiking guide. Russ has a great heart and is very caring. Bea, the heroine, is on the prickly side. She is a scientist who has a lot of responsibility and people depending on her. In an uncharacteristic move, she had a one night stand with Russ a few months back. When he ends up being her hiking guide, she is thrown for a big loop. Bea has troubling reconciling the part of her who slept with Russ and her very straight laced image.
The problem I had with the story was Bea and her non-existent (in my opinion) barriers to seeking a relationship with Russ. It was all her own hang ups. At times, I got frustrated with Bea because she was so analytical that she couldn't see what a great thing her and Russ could have. I will have to say the epilogue really won me over on being more of a Bea fan.
In the story we also meet some interesting characters and have some romantic suspense elements thrown in. Also, the descriptions of the setting and actions really painted a vivid picture.
All in all the story and descriptions were great. Rescued by Her Firefighter is a good read with an amazing hero.
If painters have a style then writers must, too. Genevieve Turner’s books have a special “feel” to them that makes me happy when I read them.
In this story Beatriz and Russ, who met on a hot blind date a while ago, unexpectedly meet again when Bea asks for a guide to lead her to some wild Penstemon she needs for her lab experiments. Bea is prickly and cold…or is she…perhaps she is just analytical and curious but without people skills. Russ is a people pleaser with a superhero wannabe character. The two will have a LOT of time together on the trail, meet some interesting characters, deal with danger and there will be pain. The question is whether or not the two will realize they care for one another and then be willing to take the steps required to be together after the hike is finished.
Thoroughly enjoyable! I look forward to the next installment in this series!
Thank you to the author for the copy to read and review.
When the man hired to take her into the California wilderness is none other than her hot fireman one night stand, Bea has to come to terms with her social awkwardness. Bea is a complicated heroine that I totally identified with, and Russ, oh my god, I loved him! Saving people is his life's ambition, and he was the sweetest guy ever. Totally looking forward to the next book in the series.
I'm enjoying this series as a whole. It's nice to have shorter, fun, quick, romantic reads. This has definitely been my favorite in the series so far though. The character development in this one hit the level I expect from reading Turner's longer novels.
Excellent Mysterious Romance One night stands can turn into eternal Happiness once both involved overcome there stubbornness and fear of past romance issues ... truly enjoyable now onto the next Book !!!
