Her latest book 'Break-Up Club' is a romantic comedy about friendship, and was inspired by her experiences in an accidental break-up club of her own... which taught her that a break up shared, is a break up halved. One day she'd like to set up an official refuge for the broken-hearted, so that no one should ever have to go through one alone.

When she's not writing, she enjoys making comedy sketches and short films, running a fictional bakery called Niche Quiche, and asking people where the nearest lido is. She is also named after a mythical German mermaid, which might explain the obsession with outdoor swimming.

Reader, I Dumped Him is one of those interesting reads. It's not a love story (LOOK AT THE TITLE), so it's not your typical Chick Lit novel - excuse me while I sob, because I love a love story, but it's actually a really great read. And it really should have been called The Break Up Club. I MEAN COME ON. Of course it should have been called The Break Up Club. It's about a break up club, so it's like sooo obvious! But Reader, I Dumped Him was super witty, too.

The book itself is all about a group of friends - Holly, Harry, Olivia and Bella, who all happen to be dumped/dump someone around the same time and decide that to help each other get over their own heartbreaks, they'll start a BUC (break up club) with rules to help them keep away from their exes. It's literally ingenious. And I wonder why it isn't an actual thing, because that's AWESOME. Who better than friends to help you get over a break up? Or to stop you going into a Facebook ragey because you've seen something you don't like on your exes Facebook? It's genius, I tell you.

I loved getting to know the girls - and guy - of break up club. Holly was the main character (which at times made me sad because Holly could be a sap; it makes me sad when someone dumps someone but is still crying over them 80% into the novel, because she dumped him, but maybe I'm heartless and mostly I did like Holly) but Olivia, Bella and Harry were awesome to get to know, too, and it would have been good if they'd got to have a bit of the book, too. If we could see Bella doing her weird, hippy thing; Harry training for his triathlons; and Olivia's real feelings on her break-up as she had quite a peppy veneer to her that never rang true.

I really enjoyed Reader, I Dumped Him. It's a fairly long read, so ready yourself to settle in and really get to know these characters. You really do feel like you're part of their club, and I loved how different they all were, but how that didn't matter within their friendship with each other. I've always loved books about friends, because love isn't always everything and friendship is so important and often overlooked and it was nice to see it make a welcome return here! Here's hoping we don't have such a long wait for Lorelei's next novel (there's been a few years since her first two Little Black Dress books and this one!).

Firstly i really wanted to enjoy this book. I loved the sound of it and the cover stood out for me. The book just wasnt what i expected it to be. Sadly it actually took me longer to read this than normal as i was just so bored, i kept thinking it would pick up but it didnt.
This is about a Break up Club (BUC) that is formed by a group of friends who all find themselves single at the same time, as we follow Holly, Bella, Olivia and Harry on their journeys who will give in to tempation of getting in touch with their ex or will we see them become different people.
There were a few bits in there that i enjoyed, especially the parts about who the voice was on the underground. I did engage with the characters at various parts but overall very disappointed.
The most highlighted part of the book was when Liv ended up in hospital, that felt like the only bit of drama going. I didnt quiet get the ending either.
It would not put me off reading more from Lorelei Mathias. I just think this could of been better.

This is quite a long book and I struggled to start with. But I'm glad I persevered. There is some very subtle wit, some laugh out loud moments and some "WHAT??" moments as well!

Above all, it is the story of friendship through thick and thin & ups and downs. Four friends form The Break Up Club and the book follows their luck and love over a period of time. But it doesn't stick to one theme - one member travels, another is very ill - and so the interactions are constantly mixed up.

For me personally, it is a little bit long but that is my only criticism - and that's more personal taste than anything. Holly, Bella, Harry & Olivia will live in my memory for some time to come!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

try this one- it's entertaining. Light and serious at the same time, it leaves you with the positive message that we all need to make and cherish our friends for the tough times. Thanks to NETGALLEY for the ARC for this good read. All of the characters are very believable, even if they aren't always likeable, and you won't guess all the outcomes (at least I didn't). I haven't read Mathias before =- I don't think she's been published in the US=- but I'll definitely look for her again. The internet is a wonderful thing! Thanks to NETGALLEY for the ARC.

Holly and Lawrence have been together for five years, when Holly decides that enough enough and dumps him

With the aid of Olivia, Harry and Bella they start the Break Up Club to help each other through the difficult times. There are rules that have to be stuck to but they meet up every week to support each other

This is a very funny book with some great hilarious scenes and lovely characters that stay with you after you have finished the book - good enjoyable bit of fun

I picked this book to read as the title jumped out at me. Although, the story was uplifting, with a HFN ending, I found that the story dragged out a bit. It seemed to take ages for the plot to get to the 'dumping him' part. The story did make me feel a little nostalgic about my own twenties and there was funny parts.

Review first posted on my blog 'A Spoonful of Happy Endings': http://spoonfulofhappyendings.blogspo...

Twenty-something Holly Braithwaite has been together with her boyfriend Lawrence for several years. However, Holly can't help but not be 100% happy with their relationship and before she really realises it herself she has broken up with him. Luckily, Holly has her room mates and friends Bella, Olivia and Harry to help her through the tough times to come, especially when they discover they've all recently become single. Together they decide to start the Break-Up Club, complete with its own set of rules to make sure they all get through their break-ups as quickly and unbroken as possible. However, ending a relationship is never simple and it turns out to be quite a challenge for all four of them to deal with the changes in their lives, while sticking to their club rules as much as possible.

As soon as I heard about 'Reader, I Dumped Him' I loved the basic idea of the story; a group of friends who decide to start their own Break-Up Club to help each other get through the difficult stages of being dumped/ending a relationship. The book starts off in a great way with a list of the rules the club has and I was really curious to get to know the characters better. I liked Holly and her friends Olivia, Bella, and Harry, and really enjoyed seeing how they dealt with things, together and individually. However, I couldn't help but feel something was missing while I was reading the book and this feeling, unfortunately, didn't go away.

I didn't really connect to any of the characters. I would have loved the chance to learn more about Bella, Olivia and Harry because they now felt like secondary characters the reader doesn't really need to know too much about, while I think the friendship between the four characters is one of the best things about this story. I also felt like the plot was missing something; there was a great basis, but it just didn't add up to what I was hoping I would be. Overall, 'Reader, I Dumped Him' is a light-hearted and fun read all about dealing with break-ups and the importance of having your friends there to support you along the way. I'm certainly curious to read more of Lorelei Mathias' work in the future and I did enjoy this book, it just didn't completely live up to my expectations.

Break-Up Club by Lorelei Mathias is chick-lit Brit style with much laughter (and puns!), tears, inspiration, and drama.

Holly and Lawrence don't have the perfect relationship, in fact, far from it. But he makes her laugh and that must count for something, right? Forget the fact that because of him, her bank account's now at an all-time low or that he doesn't really listen to her when she's trying to run ideas by him for a project they could conceivably work on together or that sex is a vague memory, when they're together, she mostly feels happy--mostly.

Convinced by her best friends, Olivia, Bella, and Harry that her relationship with Lawrence probably ran its course a year or so ago, Holly breaks up with him. Because the four of them have all recently suffered from break-ups, they decide to form the Break-up Club for moral support. As they suffer a variety of set-backs, they cling to each other, the clubs ever shifting and increasing rules, and vast quantities of alcohol.
Although Holly's break up recovery is like a roller coaster, she begins to evaluate her life and determines that some of the things she thought were important perhaps weren't and that some events shouldn't be rushed. Armed with increasing self-awareness, she begins to make satisfying changes in her life.

Break-Up Club is filled with laughs and insights. When Holly, Bella, Olivia, and Harry get together, the dialogue is extremely witty and their antics charming and sometimes manic. The quirky quartet learns how to dance like no one is watching (literally) and reinvent their lives, coming to realize that maybe romantic relationships are just the icing on the cake with the actual cake being the best friends who are better than family.

Despite the fact that it's a novel about love's hardships, Break-Up Club looks beyond the despair of romantic relationships to show that there are more important things and that when you acknowledge that, it makes failed relationships just that much easier to get over.
Break-Up Club, which will be published on May 19, 2016 in the States, was originally published in the UK as Reader, I Dumped Him.

I really liked Reader, I Dumped Him...the premise is absolutely great. A group of friends all suffering through break ups at around the same time, decide to become more of a club, to help each other through, back to happiness.

The book starts off brilliantly, with the list of the rules of the club, and from them I was laughing and smiling, and thinking what a great opening. Having seen some more of what led Holly to break up with Lawry (her boyfriend of five years), I completely agreed with her reasons, and couldn't believe she hadn't done it sooner.

Holly is a TV editor for a bad reality TV station, and her boss, is just out to exploit her for ideas. Some of the ideas proposed for possible shows were laughable, and others were just plain wrong. Thankfully according to Holly's boss Jez, I wouldn't fall into his target audience.

I really loved the last quarter of the book, as suddenly there was some tension, and things started to come to logical conclusions. What bugged me unfortunately was the middle section of the book, which just seemed to drag on a bit. I get that the four friends were all dealing with their own misery, but it felt like they were dragging me down with them.

I was predicting who Holly would end up with, and I am very glad to say that I was wrong. As a Northern Line commuter, I did enjoy the various mentions of the line and its annoying attributes, as Holly was travelling around London. There is a lot to like with Reader, I Dumped Him, but I felt it could have been a bit shorter and punchier.

Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

Reader, I Dumped Him is about a group of friends who decided to start their own Break Up Club to help each other get through the different stages of their relationships that have failed.

I found it quite hard to actually get into the story line. I felt like i didn't connect with any of the Characters and I felt like there was just something lacking from the plot. At the times i felt the book was dragging and would have to take a break from reading.

Reader I dumped him is a light hearted read that did however how some enjoyable parts. I can see that it would appeal to people in a similar situation and people who enjoy to read Chick Lit.

Jane Eyre Reference anyone? Let's start with the title. I mean, it can only be one of the most recognisable lines in all of English literature - albeit a little tampered with! But any English student will have encountered the awkward but loveable Jane! The title alone drew me in. Gave me expectations. I had visions of a group of women who defy society to grab a hold of what they truly want. You know what I mean. The feisty conventions-be-dammed type of ladies who are tired of doing what is expected of them at the expense of their happiness...

What can I say? These ladies know just how that feels and they have had enough! Enough of wasting time waiting for the perfect man. Enough of making compromises just because of fear. They take charge and the results are excellent. Every rule of the break-up-club is so right it ought to be made into a manifesto!

Overall, i loved the premise of the book, but I had some serious reservations towards the end! And so I could only really give it 3/ 3.5 stars. Nonetheless I would say, the premise alone is worth reading the book for. #breakupclub! #BUC
I've written a more in depth review on my blog (has some spoilers!) but would love to know what everyone else thought!

Thank you to NetGalley.com and to the publisher for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The idea of a Break Up Club is terrific – the book started out terrific with an outline of the rules, everyone breaking up, etc… Then it just turned into a story about whiny Holly. Seriously, at 28 I would think she would have her crap more together that she did – professionally, personally, etc. What a walking disaster area. I think my 16 year old daughter has it more together than this character. While none of the characters were really awesome apart – (Bella too flakey, Olivia way too rigid, Henry didn’t seem to feel anything, and Holly was just a mess) – they all clicked as the B.U.C and I would have liked to see more of the Break Up Club expanding (new members, new something, anything but Holly), instead of Holly whining about her job, her room, her mess, her life.

What I loved: Hello – the random Stone Roses mention made me smile and was something I loved about the book even if the comment did seem a little negative..

What I didn’t love: Um…. Did you just skip to this paragraph?

What I learned: I am so out of touch…

Overall Grade: C

I was kindly given a copy through Netgalley.

I really struggled with getting into it.
The prose felt too heavy for the story line it seemed to offer.
And the story line itself seemed to have no immediate direction.
It remained flat throughout most of the story and I was constantly waiting for a peak in the plot line but it never seemed to come.
And it makes me sad because I absolutely adore the idea of The Break Up Club but it wasn't all what I had hoped it to be.

I needed a lighter book after finishing a few with heavy subject matter and this was just the ticket. The story revolves around four twenty-something friends in London dealing with breakups. They form a Break Up Club for support and help finding a way through the grief and pain of major relationship breakups, crap jobs, reminders and reclaims, and it's about friendship, letting go and starting over. Good fun, totally relateable, I liked the characters and I liked that the friendships were ultimately the most important things for them.

A light hearted brit chick lit. I enjoyed this book because it's not the classic romantic girl meets boy story. It's a fun reading that one does in one seat. Still, I couldn't get myself to like Holly.
All in all, I look fowards to more titles by this author. I too think this is a pretty good book for one who is going through a brake up and/or does not want to read a classic romantic story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC for an honest review.

Well the premise was intriguing but I didn't feel the book delivered on it, the characters needed development and the writing left me feeling disconnected to the protagonists.
