Count on Me #2

Hear Me Now

Rate this book
There are people that believe because you may not appear the way they do, you’re somehow weaker or less worthy than they are.

I’m living proof they’re wrong.

For as long as I can remember I've been treated differently because I'm deaf.

What people don’t realize, is just because I can’t hear the things they say, doesn't mean I don’t feel the pain that comes from their words and actions.

I’m more than just a girl that can’t hear and I've never been more determined to prove it now that I've ended up here.

Wexfield High School.

I know what goes on here and I know even more about the guy who makes it all happen.

Dillon Murphy is trouble with a capital T. He goes out of his way to hurt those he perceives to be weaker than him and does it with a smile. What he doesn't realize is that his tricks, they won’t work on me because I know his secret.

As I’m finding out, there’s a lot more to Dillon then he wants the world to see and before my time here is up, I’m determined to make him see it, even if it costs me my heart in the process.

Mother, Sister, Daughter, Best Friend, Avid Book Reader, Author, Overall Crazy Person.

I'm Melyssa and I was born and raised in what is now known as the mega city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm the country girl stuck in the city girls body and anytime I can get away from the big city lights and settle somewhere far more slower is always such a treat.

I'm a mother to probably the four most amazing kids on the planet. (Yes that's a typical mom answer isn't it?) They have brought so much joy to my life and without them I'm not entirely sure where or what I'd be doing. They've taught me so much that I only hope I can do the same for them as they grow.

When I'm not with them I'm doing one of two things. Either curled up with my e-reader and as many books as I can handle or watching marathons of Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy or Veronica Mars.

Lastly, I'm always on the lookout for my next book boyfriend, even if I have to create him in my own stories. can't go wrong with a good book boyfriend. :)

If you liked the first book in this series (Count On Me), then you will definitely like this one too. I thought it wouldn't be possible for Dillon to make amends for the way he was in the previous book, but he managed to redeem himself quite successfully. He also proved that everyone can change for the better, given a chance and a proper „kick in the ass”. The heroine was strong and knew how to stomp her feet. Overall, quick, well written, good YA reading, dealing with a very important subject that is bullying. No smut here, but I honestly didn’t miss it, the story itself was good enough to make up for lack of thereof. I enjoyed it and will probably be reading the next installment at some point.

What can i say about this book? It was enjoyable! Dillon was a real piece of work. Even thought he redeem himself at the end, it's still wasn't enough for me. The damaged was done .. I loved the heroine. She was strong and didn't let anyone step on her. I just wished for more romance. I felt like I didn't get to enjoy them as a couple even for 5 minuets.

I really love Melyssa Winchester writing. She writes from the heart and there are not so many authors who doe's it this days.

Overall, it was interesting and I couldn't stop reading even when I wanted to throw my kindle on the wall more then one time ;)

And i thought the first book was my favorite!

“We’ve all been hurt by words before. So before you
speak, think about how your words might affect
someone else.” – Naya Rivera

This book is somehow deeper and more meaningful so to speak and maturer. Loved the first one but i LOVED L.O.V.E.D this one. What i liked about this is when readers want to read it they think that the "weak" person here is Caddy because of her disability to hear, but i saw that Dillon is the weak person, morally and emotionally.

I absolutely liked Caddy, she's amazing. Sometimes i found her to be very mature and other immature but it didn't bother me as she's young and its expected. I also admired her as a girl who is facing challenges in life and she's facing them with grace.

Dillon. Oh, Dillon . In Count on me ( You can read my review here i hated Dillon so much! i of course knew he was troubled and his life wasn't as it seems, but nonetheless i despised him. But in Hear me now i love him SO much! He's makes sense now i guess. It is brilliant idea to write this series from both the male and the female point of view as it is important to really get in their heads and know how and what do they think about.

I enjoyed the most watching the developement in Dillon's character. He is growing from this

"“Look at this Amy, she’s crying again. What a freaking baby. Is the little retard scared? Is she gonna piss her pants
again?”

To this

I care about this girl, more than I’ve ever cared about anyone in my pathetic existence and I’m willing to give it all up to prove it. Not only to her, but to me too. "

I was really a story about finding ones self and accepting what you find regardless. Dealing with your life instead of running away from it.

Sinopsis:

Hear Me Now is now live!

Barnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/1ln5lwQ
Apple iBooks: http://bit.ly/1v8mVHV
Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

Hear Me Now is primarily a story of personal growth, change, but not one that comes easily. It is a coming of age tale, learning to love oneself before being able to love another. While there is a romance between the pages, it focuses more on Dillon Murphy's darkness and his hard fought journey into the light.

If you're taking a chance on this story because of it's connection to Count On Me, please remember this moving forward. There are some parallels between the stories, but primarily, this one comes at it from a different angle with the same general end result.

It's my hope that you can see this and love it and Dillon as much as I do now that his story has been told. (For the record even as the author I hated Dillon LOL but he's earned the title of my favorite asshole in the sweetest way possible.)

If you can't though, I get it. <3

5 You ripped my heart out but I don’t care you can keep it Stars

Dillon Murphy is an asshole. You know it. I know it. He knows it.

And Cadence Taylor knows it. But Cadence also knows there’s more to Dillon than what he shows the world. Maybe it’s because she sees with her heart. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t have the static noises to hear and listen to because her world is a silent one. Deaf since birth, Cadence relies on her other senses to connect her to others. She sees what’s in front of her, but her perception of truth goes deeper – it goes to the heart of the person of whom she communicates with. She sees weaknesses; sure, those are easy to see. But what’s not so easy to see are strengths a person possesses, especially if they’ve spent years hiding them. But there it was when she met Dillon Murphy. She knew what she’d heard about him. The school bully. The mean boy who likes to pick on weaker kids, especially those with special needs, but in him she saw something more.

Dillon's story is more of a coming of age story that deals with redemption, learning, regrets, etc. with a sprinkle of love mixed in.

“I’m Dillon.”

"Cadence."

From the very first introduction, they each see something in the other that would prove to be confusing to both of them.

Dillon was sent to sit in the special needs class by the school administration that Cadence’s mother teaches to make him a part of the classroom full of students he frequently bullies. The objective – to reach Dillon in ways a school suspension has failed to teach him. Cadence is only in her mother’s class for two weeks until her regular school is fixed from flooding damage. Both are out of place with their new surroundings, and both want to go back to their regular routines.

But their constant interactions begin to collide with emotions as they learn about each other. They pass notes during class and Cadence isn’t shy about calling Dillon out on his asshole ways. And then when he agrees that he is indeed an asshole, she shocks him by telling him she sees more in him that that.

“I think the way you act when you’re here, that’s not the real you. I don’t think you’re an asshole. I think that deep inside, you’re really a decent guy but something’s happened to you or someone’s done something to you that’s changed you.”

And she’s right, but Dillon doesn’t change his ways over night.

Dillon’s father IS an asshole, and has been forcing his son into fights since he was twelve, so Dillon has grown up fighting his way in life – literally.

Their friendship is on shaky legs from the start, because even though Cadence sees more in Dillon that he would ever admit, she still knows she can’t totally trust him. She fights with her own heart much of the time. But she’s not the only one. Dillon struggles with his heart as well as he battles over doing what he knows to be right, and wanting to make the easier choices and staying on the same self-destructive road he’s knows.

And Dillon reverts back to his old self more than once. Each time a new consequence for his actions comes to light, but all of them revolve around Cadence. And Cadence makes mistakes of her own, and both of them fight to keep from hurting the other. Their relationship goes through the highs and the lows. The ups and the downs. Disappoints and regrets. But they each learn from them, and grow from them.

After the rollercoaster ride they both got on in the beginning, it finally slows down long enough for each of them to hear what the other has been trying to say.

“Coach told me once, when I was too busy screwing around to pay attention that the only way he could get through to me, make me hear him was to spell everything out."

Sigh. Dillon spells out ‘I love you’ in sign language to Cadence – but instead of signing the words, he signs each letter. “I wanted you to hear me.”

Dillon made me want to hate him. He made me want to love him. But he absolutely made me hear him.

This is a journey of growth, and it is a story about learning to love yourself enough before you can learn to love someone else.

Melyssa Winchester wows me with her writing and her ability to redeem her characters when all logic tells you they aren’t redeemable. But she somehow manages to do it, but even more important, she makes you believe it.

Dillon finds himself again. The boy he used to be. And Cadence – well, she heard him. She heard him on the very first day.

"I'm Dillon."

5 -Best Redemption of an Asshole Ever- Stars

Dillon Murphy

description

Cadence Taylor

description

When the story started off and the Dillon we were dealing with was the same damn one that he was in Count On Me, this is all I could think. I seriously spent a large chunk of the book wanting to beat on him for even thinking about hurting Cadence at all even if it was a game or he wasn’t really into it.

description

But then Cadence wasn’t like anyone else ever! She wasn’t taking Dillon’s shit at all and I think I might have developed a girl crush. I seriously seriously seriously loved Cadence’s character. She might have suffered from this disability that people think makes you weak, I mean even Dillon thought she was weak, but she wasn’t what everyone thought. She was totally badass.

description

Dillon started changing though and Caddy was changing along with him and I was just so head over heels for their small little moments together that I spent a few chapters feeling so jealous of Caddy because she was getting a side of Dillon no one else could have.

description

Things were pretty much perfect for this couple, at least as perfect as they can be when you’re falling for a total jerk that’s spent the majority of his life being brainwashed to believe that he’s strong and everyone else is weak and then the unthinkable happens. Cadence misunderstands Dillon, leaves school and the guy I was starting to fall for, the one you wanna believe he can totally be turns back into asshole Dillon and you just wanna beat the shit out of him.

description

There’s a happy ending here but its not easy getting there and I’m really super glad that it wasn’t because that wouldn’t have felt real to me and for Dillon, I really wanted to see something real because honestly as much as I loved Kayden, he was fucking out of this world in terms of how perfectly imperfect he was and I needed a bit more of a struggle for change.

The author outdid herself with this story and I’m so excited to hear there is more for these two cause it did feel stilted in the romance department but was super awesome in the progression of Dillon’s change. I just hope what we’ve seen sticks cause wow. What a guy.

By the end of the book, Dillon had a new girlfriend that he didn’t know about. I seriously had all the feels in the world for him and what he does to let Caddy hear him.

High school is a fucked up place. Shit happens an no one really talks about it.
Readin this book. The author is talking about it. Its like she walked the halls, saw things happen or experienced them herself and wrote about the reality of it.
Dillon Murphy, there are guys like him all over high school. They probably don’t do the same shit he did but his attitude and the way he looked at them and the world , its very real.
I said this when I read Count On Me and im gonna say it again. I was Dillon. I was Kayden. I was so pissed at my own life that at a point I was the one makin other people miserable. That’s how I know that a lot of what happens in here is real. Because I’ve lived it.
I notice things bout people who read these kind of books. They want the main male to just be perfect right from the start yet complain when he’s to perfect. They get angry when he’s a total dick. So if ur like that, don’t read this.
Dillon is an asshole. He remains an asshole for awhile. He will make u want to punch him in the throat and kick him in the balls. He’s mean, but theres also a lot more to him. If you keep reading you’ll see that there’s a whole lot more behind him than just the evil he creates.
I love how he was portrayed. The back and forth struggle he has because its hard noticing things and wantin to change. Its fucking scary to. Seeing that the way u are isn’t the way ur meant to be and wanting to fight against it so hard because the way u are in the moment is easier.
Its fucking brilliant.
Caddy is like Belle but isn’t like Belle. She’s the only character in existence that can handle Dillon. She calls him on his shit doesn’t let him get away with anything and never lets up. It’s only natural that the two of them would go toward each other because they both represent things the other really wants and needs.
This story is like Count On Me but isn’t. It takes a different road with the same result. It sheds light on real issues, real struggles and in the end gives hope and shows and proves change.
Dillon Murphy by the end is redeemed but if ur looking for him to do it in the first 10 pages, try another book. This one isn’t like that and it’s a progression, just like real life.
I think I liked this book more than Count On Me because I identified more with Dillon than Kayden. Kayden wanted to be good right from the first page and struggled to get there. Dillon needed to be shown and guided.
Cannot fucking wait for Eric’s book next month. Bring it on.
If ur looking for a book that will make u feel things, good or bad this is it. A definite 5* read if u give it the chance it deserves. Give Dillon and Cadence the chance.
It was also pretty fuckin awesome to have appearances by Belle, Kayden and Eric in this one too. Liked that shit almost as much as I did the main characters.

I say it all the time; I love a good story of redemption. This was a great one.

First, Dillon changing wasn't easy. If it's too easy, it's too unrealistic. Second, he didn't change for the girl. Sure, Cadence was a motivator, but I loved that he changed for him.

I don't know what else to say other than Melyssa did it again. It's another beautiful story with a tragic hero and a strong leading lady. I loved the characters and was grateful Kayden and Eric reappeared in this book. I also love Ms. Taylor's role in the whole story. This was another winner in my book.

Six stars for the asshole who stole my heart.
From the first page the Melyssa Winchester had me hooked. I went into it hating the main character Dillon. I thought you are one asshole. Throughout the book though you learn that just because someone is an asshole and enjoys or should I say seems to enjoy picking on people its not always as it seems. That there just might be a reason that bully is a bully . Maybe all it takes is the most unlikely person to show you that deep down you are not the person that you think you are. But in actual fact there is some good inside just waiting for someone to love you enough for you to want to show it.
I started this book hating Dillon I ended it understanding a lot more. At times I thought I still hate you but by the end Melyssa had worked her magic and by the end loved him. I love this author and she one of those authors I stalk waiting for her next book to come out because I know I won't be disappointed.

I will be the first to admit that I thought Dillion was the biggest jerk and couldn't be redeemed. I was wrong. Melyssa does an amazing job of dealing with flawed characters, disabilities, real life issues and the confusion that comes with being a teenager. In Hear Me Now, you get Dillion's backstory and an understanding of what makes him a jerk. Love does strange things to people and this book shows how two people fall in love, despite the obstacles in their way. I loved Mrs. T. She is an amazing mother and teacher. Kayden, Belle and Eric also make a return appearance. The dialogue is realistic and raw with emotion. The theme of the story is you can change, if you want it for yourself. I think it's an important lesson. Change is never easy, but worth fighting for and both Dillion and Cadence experience this first hand it was one amazing journey!

I really enjoyed this book. I have to say I never "hated" Dillon. The reason for that is because Melyssa Winchester is able to show the reader what makes Dillon act and do things the way he does. We get in his head and see the battles he's faced with and then we get to see how he overcomes them. My heart ached for Dillon, even at his lowest points.

And Cadence, as wonderful as she was, I didn't love the way she handled an invite she received. As I'm typing this I realize I can't really say too much on that without giving it away. But it was a real reaction for a high school girl to have and it showed that nobody is perfect. All characters need flaws, and I loved that MW shows them even in the "good ones".

Hear me now is a beautiful MUST read!

There are things about this book that I really enjoyed. The premise of this story is great. School bully who preys on the weak, falls for the girl who most would put in that very category. She helps open his eyes and his heart. Love that. But I HATE hearing/reading the word " retard." Even used in a story, I don't like it. And the things Dillon and his so-called friends did to other students was painful to read.

Cadence was a bright light in this book. She was an amazing heroine. Strong, stubborn (in a good way), compassionate, and so much more.

I enjoyed getting to see another side of Dillon, thanks to Cadence. But we get to read very little of their actual relationship. I needed more from the positive aspects of the book.

I received this book for my honest review and it is completely amazing. Dillion was one of the people in the first book who i couldn't stand, and in this book i completely fell in love with him. His story is one you would never get until you actually read it. Cadence is an enigma. She's "weak" because she's deaf, but she's one of the strongest people in the school.

Their story is full of love, lies, deceit, and hidden secrets. "Hear Me Now" is a rollercoaster in itself and truthfully a great read.

I loved it! Loved it!
Might be hard for me people to imagine these kind of things happening to teenagers and children in school but it is a harsh reality. I remember my time in school and it was not funny.
The love story was great and I loved Dillon's character. He was able to grow and learn and become a better person.

Cadence

Dillon

Before reading this book, I had to read other books to let my mind forget Dillon. Dillon was an ASS in the book Hear me Now. He was a horrible person! I despised him! Therefore when I found out that this was Dillion redemption I had to cool off. I needed to forget what an asshole he was.

The first couple of chapters were a reminder of the asshole Dillon.

I kept going because I knew this was a redemption! There has to be something good right?
AND OF COURSE there were a lot of nice things afterwards.
Dillon was changing! I got to understand him, and really see the true Dillon. I did fall in love with him...not gonna lie... :)

Cadence was such a strong character. She didn't let the bullies get to her. She fought back. She knew how to deal with bullies.

I loved how she fought Amy!!! She shows Dillon and the others than being deaf does not make you weak! Being disabled does not mean that people can step on you. She was so much more different than Belle.

Now now... YES Cadence was an amazing character until the middle of the book.
She was strong!!!!! but SO HARD HEADED!

I overall really enjoyed this book.
I'm glad Dillon got his redemption.
Him and Cadence truly deserve the best...

Again...As I mentioned in my review for Hear Me Now I feel like I need another book.
I feel like their story is unfinished. I want to see where this couple goes in the future!
After all this angst and drama I believe they deserve a book with new struggles (BUT PLEASE NOT TOO MUCH!) and a lot of ROMANCE!
:)

"This is the beginning of something that has no end <3"

Let me start off by saying that I didn't really love Dillon/Caddy as much as I did Kayden/Belle. However, I still did love them by the end of this story. When I finished reading it both of these characters had taken a little piece of my heart with them.

I didn't think it was possible for me to ever like Dillon. But I'm a true believer that people are good at heart, so while I read Count On Me I knew that there had to be a reason Dillon was the was he was. I couldn't fathom the thought that he was an asshole just for the sake of being one. Which is why I'm so glad this book was written and his story was told. I understand him more now. His character went through a very bumpy ride in this story, but that's what made this such a page turner for me. By the end he found the one person who made him want to be someone he can be proud of - Caddy.

Caddy was such a great female lead. I loved her more than Belle from Count On Me which surprised me. It was how honest and strong she was that made me like her so much. I loved how she always fought back and didn't let bullies bring her down. Her being so strong in more ways than one was exactly what Dillon needed. Even if she thought they weren't a good match, they were. Even if Dillon thought he wasn't good enough for her, he was. She accepted him just the way he was, as he did with her. And I think that's beautiful.

The only thing left for me to say really is that I'm glad their story is something that will have no end - for now. Because I know there's another book for these two in the works and I can't wait for it! You did another great job with this story Melyssa. Keep it up because it's working :)

This is Dillon's story and it's not pretty. Dillon Wexfield High school biggest bully he's notorious for bullying special kids. When he gets caught again for doing what he does, the school takes different measurements this time. Since Dillon has a knacks for finding and tormenting special kids he gets to join their class. On his first day in this class he see's Candence and is blow away by her beauty, but he wouldn't be Dillon is he didn't have some shady plan and he does. He plans to get Candence to fall in love with him and than hurt her feelings. Dillon doesn't count on falling in love himself.

Candence is deaf she knows Dillon is trouble but she see's something in him.

What I liked:
Again I love that the author takes a different issue and makes a beautiful love story from it.
I love the story and the writing.
Candence might be deaf but she still hears and she will not accept bullying from nobody.
I like Candence's mom she's a great teacher and mom.
This book has some more Kaden and Isabella and in this case more is better.

What I didn't like so much:
Dillon might be changing but it still doesn't make it o.k for all he did, I don't feel that he's that sorry.
I loved the story but I feel like reading the same story twice being Count on me, the receipt is the same.
The fact that Dillon's dad made him fight was unrealistic, I wondered what happened after the fight were he ended up in the hospital. Were there any consequences for his dad? How about his mom?
The change in Dillon was to fast.

I wish people could change overnight and that there could be an end to bullying. The author does a great job addressing bullying.

After reading Count on Me, this one was a major 'what the effing hell?'. I don't know how the author can be this delusional to believe that the readers will accept whatever bullshit she'd sell.

Seriously people, Dillon Murphy was a class A+ asshole in the first book and I hated him so real bad. I was really looking forward to this one, so that you know, I can enjoy seeing him on his f**king knees. But what did poor me get instead? A new girl at school and then BAAM!!! Dillon is the new face of sainthood. My reaction - **scream BULLSHIT**

That said, I think I'm calm enough now to add that I love Melyssa Winchester for her effort in helping the world to know the problems of autistic children.

I loved Count on Me. Took Isabel and Kayden to my heart. Maybe that's why I could'n stomach the idea of Dillon being this tortured good guy so early in the book. Early as in 3 or 4 pages early. That's how long the author took to give us the helplessness/goodness inside him. In no way I can be okay with that because he did absolutely evil things to Isabel without an ounce of remorse in the last book. Hear Me Now Dillon was like a completely different character with the same name.

Cadence was an okay heroine. I didn't particularly loved her or anything. She gives the air of a fiery character where in reality she's nothing but a love sick teenager. Considering her situation, I'd say strong but not fiery.
In a nutshell, I couldn't get past the Dillon thing. So I pretty much wrote this off.

Me gustó muchísimo.
