Falling #4

In Your Dreams

** Release date - March 29, 2016 **

Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

”You’re special Murphy Sullivan. I can make you believe it.”

description

Ginger Scott delivers a slow burn, friends to lovers tale in this fourth book of the series. Casey Coffield is Houston’s best friend, the DJ from the prior book of the series. This story can be read as a standalone without any confusion whatsoever.

Casey Coffield’s love is music. He’s DJing and creating different sounds and hoping to have his own business someday. He’s a bit of an outcast in his home since they have all followed his safe career minded father’s direction and instruction.

description

The story takes off when Casey is informed that a YouTube video on the net is getting hits of a girl singing on an open mic stage in town a song she titles, In Your Dreams Casey Coffield. Funny thing is Houston recognizes her but Casey doesn’t have any memory of this girl from his graduating class. He does see the talent and wishes to capitalize off her as a rising star.

description

”I’m the blueprint. Casey is the artist. I’m grateful.”

The story is told in alternating POVS of Casey and Murphy Sullivan, our rising star and heroine. She was very likable and is struggling with nerves and insecurities about performing. When Casey shows up and layers her song and then offers her an opportunity of making a record the two slowly start to get to know one another.

description

Casey and Murphy’s friendship and love of music was well delivered. I loved that this book was about music and that the author incorporated lyrics, stage and of course Casey’s sexy beats all of which came through vividly. As the story unfolds Murphy sees Casey in a new light, while he gets to know her wonderful family and he struggles with his father’s terminal illness.

”Perhaps this is the real Casey Coffield, and the picture I had in my head four years ago was all wrong. Maybe he isn’t as selfish as everybody thinks – as I think. Maybe he just needs someone who’s willing to walk through the fire with him and hold him through the ugly parts.”

Overall, this was an enjoyable story about music, friendship, and love that was well done. The drama was very light in this book. The family dynamics in both characters’ home was very realistic and the ending was fitting for this couple and their journey. I’d love to read a further ending if the author wants to revisit this couple sometime in the future.

I’ll wish for you because wanting you isn’t enough and having you is too fleeting. And should we find ourselves apart, I’ll wish twice as hard, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll be lucky enough to run into you in one of our dreams.

 photo InYourDreamsTeaser2_zps4jgqxozf.jpg

This was a very slow to build read. At times, I thought that I was going to end up hating this one because I also wasn’t loving the hero during the first half of the story. He seemed to be very self-centered and I didn’t find anything attractive about him at all. But then things started to come together once he shows his vulnerable side. In the end, I really did enjoy this touching story.

Casey Coffield and Murphy Sullivan went to High School together but they ran with different crowds back then. Casey was the popular guy at school, who got all the babes and Murphy was barely a blip on his radar back then. But years later, Casey hears about a song Murphy wrote and performed at an open mic night, titled ”In Your Dreams Casey Coffield”, and Casey is determined to find out who this girl is. He actually loves the song and her voice and thinks he can help her break into the music business. He works for a big record producer and also wants to one day own his own recording studio.

 photo InYourDreamsTeaser3_zpsvtroqupr.jpg

While Murphy remembers Casey from their High School days, Casey has no recollection of her. As they start spending more time together, Casey and Murphy begin to realize that what they have between them is a once in a lifetime deal. They may be from completely different worlds but they both share a deep love for music and seem to be made for each other.

There are some really heartbreaking moments as well. Casey has been on his own for several years after having been kicked out of his home by his father, who doesn’t approve of Casey’s decision to pursue a career in music. But now his family needs him and Casey is finding it hard to face reality. Murphy becomes his rock and in turn, Casey will sacrifice his happiness to ensure that Murphy gets her big break in the music industry.

The ending made my heart flutter and put a smile on my face. I definitely recommend one clicking this one. 

Honestly, I can't quite put my finger on why this story was such a win for me. So many books have been hit or miss for me lately, I feel like my perspective is all out of wack. But, thankfully In Your Dreams was a hit for me. Ginger delivers authentic, flawed characters I couldn't help but adore and a slow building romance that felt honest and real. I loved it.

description

Casey and Murphy were perfect, unique and likable, and their story was about more than just falling in love. It's about family, and two people following their dreams - taking risks, conquering fear, losing, succeeding, and growing up in the process. These two compliment each other perfectly, Casey's perceived arrogance and Murphy's meekness - I loved them. There isn't a whole lot of naughty time going on, but honestly, it didn't bother me one bit, again, I adored this couple and the message this book delivered. (if anything, I wish I had gotten more! )

Title: In Your Dreams
Series: Falling #4
Author: Ginger Scott
Release date: March 29, 2016
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

In Your Dreams is the sixth book I've read by Ginger Scott and once again, another success. She is one of those authors for me that continue to write books that surprise me, entertain me, and make me one happy reader. Her Falling series characters in particular really stand out to me with their endearing charm. This book is considered a spinoff of that series, and you will see appearances of characters from The Girl I Was Before, but it can be read 100% as a standalone.

One of my absolute favorite things about this book was the heroine. This is a somewhat uncommon thing for me to say because often I'm more critical of them as opposed to the hero. I like my strong heroines, the confident, intelligent, and independent ones really endear themselves to me the most. Would I classify Murphy as strong? Yes, but she was still growing into that strength. I think what I loved the most about her was that she may have been dealt a tough hand, but she resolved to overcome it and found her confidence. She was quiet and shy, but she also wasn't afraid to speak her mind and demand respect.

Murphy is an absolute sweetheart. She's struggled through painful years in school being ridiculed for having a speech impediment. Her stutter was embarrassing and something that she slowly learned to conquer through music. Music gave her a voice, an outlet. It helped her to move from the shadows she protected herself in, to the spotlight. She only needed someone to really see her, and help her shine.

Casey is known as the screw-up. He's selfish, lazy, and undependable according to his disapproving family. To his friends, he's hopelessly inept at making his life run smoothly. But there was something admirable about his determination to follow his own path and chase his dream in the music business. He's a talented DJ who like Murphy, needs to get his foot in the door-and once he hears Murphy's stunning voice, he knows she's the one to help him get there. Even if her most popular song seems to be about....him? With a song titled, In Your Dreams Casey Coffield, there's no mistaking things.

She's been burned by him in the past, but the question is how? His self-centeredness has been so great that he doesn't even remember who she is or how he could have impacted her life. This was really riveting to me, seeing her disgust and rejection of his charm and not knowing what their history was. It really made me think about how a simple, seemingly insignificant moment can affect another person and change them.

Casey had to have persistence and patience to break through her defenses. She had to learn to stop living in the past and see Casey as he was now, rather than who he used to be.

I really delighted in seeing this couple discover each other and learn from each other. It was the kind of relationship that you'd least expect, but they helped one another grow and become better versions of themselves.

Maybe he isn't as selfish as everybody thinks-as I think. Maybe he just needs someone who's willing to walk through fire with him and hold him through the ugly parts. Maybe I'm stronger than I think.

There was another strong layer to the plot involving Casey's family. It was perfectly woven into the story, showing us his vulnerability while helping him evolve into the man he wanted to be. He's going through a very painful period that he must find the courage to face. He needs to learn acceptance, forgiveness, and the confidence to move from the past. Casey broke my heart with what he had to deal with, and the sacrifices he had to make.

This book is all about chasing your dreams, facing your failures, and finding love along the way. I loved both characters so much, they were flawed and sympathetic all at the same time in a way that felt very genuine. Even if you haven't read anything in Ginger Scott's Falling series, I would highly recommend reading this one. If you love books about musicians, this one gives a very original spin on your typical rockstar romances and was very refreshing in that aspect. Overall, this was the perfect book for me, at the perfect time. It gave me sweet and light, but it was also weighted with a solid and worthwhile message underneath it all.

3.5 - 4 Stars

You may remember Casey as Houston’s intrusive best friend in The Girl I Was Before. I really loved Casey’s outgoing, in your face personality. I felt like he added a lot of humor and was super charming. Here we really get to know Casey and quickly realize there is so much more than meets the eye.

I really liked Murphy and how relatable she was. I liked the background story and how her and Casey were brought back into each other’s lives. What I truly loved was Lane, Murphy’s brother. I loved his role in the story and his interactions with Casey and Murphy. I felt he added so much to the story and I felt so much emotions related to him. I just wish I felt those same feelings for Casey and Murphy.

This series has been a complete win for me for the most part. I love Ginger Scott’s writing and how she builds the relationships between her characters. In Your Dreams isn’t my favorite in the series although there were parts I absolutely loved, Lane in particular. I felt the story moved slowly at times and that might be because of all the musical talk, because that is what actually brings Casey and Murphy back together.

I feel like Ginger always delivers on feels and providing us with a heartfelt story and that was definitely present in In Your Dreams. This story definitely provides you with a slow burn and keeps you wanting more. If you are a fan of the series I absolutely recommend this one.

★★★ 3.5 Stars ★★★

A very slow burn romance, this book gave me butterflies and made me smile.

Casey Coffield didn't really notice Murphy Sullivan at high school, so when he see's a recording of her singing a song dedicated to him on YouTube, he immediately embarks on a plan to find her. Casey is a DJ and an intern at a record company and believes they can help each other find fame.

"You're special, Murphy Sullivan. I can make you believe it"

Murphy suffers from anxiety and stage fright, but her love of singing spurs her on. When the arrogant boy from school offers to make her a star, she is hesitant to trust him.

They begin a friendship, and it was so heartwarming. Deep down, Casey just wanted to be loved, and he really wanted to be a part of a loving family, and although he has a mother and 4 sisters who love him, his dad makes his home a stilted one full of tension and stress.

Casey slowly falls for Murphy, and vice versa, but both are reluctant to move forward.

"She's beautiful. If my music had a physical form, I think it might just be her."

A sweet, slow burning contemporary romance with a very low steam level but high on the emotions.

IYD teaser 1

4.5 Stars!

Ginger Scott brought humor and heartfelt moments with 'In Your Dreams'.

This was a sweet and endearing book about forgiveness, second chances and going after your dreams. From the beginning, Scott had me hooked. I loved the quirky, shy Murphy and the lost, yet sensitive Casey. At first glance, they shouldn't work. He's a manwhore who only wants to go after his dream and prove he's not a failure, she's battling insecurities and afraid to go after her dream. But they work perfectly. Their differences, compliment each other.

I loved how Scott paired the brokenness of Casey that resulted from his dysfunctional family, with the loving and supportive family that Murphy had. It made it easier to compare and contrast, to experience the emotions Scott was trying to evoke in her readers.

These characters were multi-dimensional. They both grew and changed as the story progressed.

Casey Coffeld is the definition of book boyfriend. A manwhore reformed by Murphy Sullivan, he is sweet, kind, romantic, slightly broken and determined to be successful. His father was a man who wanted things his way, he was controlling and ran his household with perfection and high expectations. If you were not following the path he laid out for you, you were a failure. Casey didn't want to be an engineer for his father, he wanted to work in the music industry. He was talented and good at what he did. But to his father, dreams were frivolous. you worked hard and provided for your family. Being a dreamer and creative went against this structured lifestyle. Casey was the outcast, the black sheep, and his father never allowed him to forget.
❝My mental list of defects is so long that I forget the old ones to make room for the recent ones.❞

Murphy Sullivan is cautious. She is meek. She is the girl next door who goes unnoticed throughout high school. The one, who if you would have taken the time to get to know, would have been the popular girl because of her witty comebacks and genuine personality. Murphy is also a wickedly talented singer/songwriter. Her family is loving and wildly supportive of her. "In Your Dreams, Casey Coffeld" becomes the catalyst for her career.

When Casey hears the song named after him, he knows two things, 1) He doesn't remember this girl. 2) He sees a star waiting to shine. What he hadn't anticipated was spending time with Murphy would make him want more than a working relationship.
❝Any other girl, some other place and time, and I would be switching gears right now, capitalizing, because I always get the girl. I just don't always keep the girl.

But Murphy...she's a keep kind of girl.❞

Murphy helps Casey want to be a better man. Casey provides strength to Murphy, helping her battle back those things that cripple her.

When tragedy strikes Casey's family, he realizes while he may be different from his father, he still holds some of his beliefs.
❝But I'm supposed to be here. And today, I've discovered my purpose.

I will do this so my mother and sisters don't have to.❞

Secondary characters were not only there for support.

They provided strength and a solid base to this realistic plot.

Lane was spectacularly written. He was sweet and endearing and just so loveable.

Houston and his family have "adopted" Casey. They are terrific. Houston has brotherly patience and love for Casey.
❝Everyone spoils you," Houston says,

... he's right--everyone spoils me. Except for the people who made me.❞

4.5 Stars?

But, you loved it, so why not 5 stars, you ask? One thing... the ending. I felt it was a bit abrupt and I simply wanted more. There is a bit of a time jump and I liked these characters and their story so much, I wanted to know what happened during that time, as well, I wanted to know ... more. An Epilogue, perhaps? I'm not sure. I just know I really enjoyed their story and wasn't ready for it to end.

The steam level was low, and I was prepared to lend this to my 19-year-old daughter, until that one scene and, yeah, I decided against it. #awkward lol

4 Bright Stars****

(ARC kindly provided by Author in exchange for an honest review)

" I thought her singing was perfection. I thought no other sound could compare, but when she pants for me and cries with pleasure, I come undone."

Very sweet and beautifully written story about how two very complex characters found each other through music.

 photo image_zps9rhl1h0h.jpeg

Murphy is a very talented musician that suffers from a lot of insecurities. When she was young she suffered from a speech impediment that caused her a lot of pain and humiliation throughout her high school years. Years later, she's older and wiser but some of those insecurities still linger and have the power to freeze her up in front of large audiences.

Murphy has written a song as a way to rebel against all those struggles from her past. The song is amazing and is titled after a boy who used to make fun of her in school. It's not long before someone posts a video of her playing the song on YouTube, catching the attention of a lot of people including Casey Coffield.

Casey lives and breathes music. Against his family's wishes, Casey has decided to follow his own path. He is a Deejay and music producer with a dream of one day having his own record label. When Casey first hears the song titled after him, he recognizes the talent behind the music but he has no clue who the girl singing really is or why she's singing about him; so he sets out on a mission to find her.

Casey will find a lot more than music when he meets Murphy. When these two characters cross paths again the collaboration will be flawed and yet so beautiful.

Ginger Scott has a talent for humanizing characters in such a way, that you can't help but relate and connect with her stories immediately. Romantic and highly entertaining her books always become memorable lyrics that continue to play in your mind for days and days after you finished the book.

This book is a spinoff story from the Falling series but it can totally be read as a standalone.

4 Finding your Dreams Stars

I love Ginger Scott and I love the Falling series. In Your Dreams is a standalone and is part of the Falling series. This is Casey and Murphy’s story. Casey is best friends with Houston.

I was really excited for this book because I know when I jump into a Ginger Scott book I’m going to be sucked in. In Your Dreams is written a little differently than the previous books in my opinion. It’s sweeter and has less angst, which is exactly my cuppa. Don’t get me wrong, it has plenty of tension to keep you interested.

Casey is a big mess. He’s going for his dream as a music mixer but he sacrificed a lot for it. His family kicked him out and he’s a penny- less struggling artist. Where do I even begin with Casey? Casey is a Hero that takes me a bit to get into. It’s hard to see him struggle and it’s hard to see what he has to put up with. He has sisters and a mother who love him, but a very anger father that disapproves of his choices in life. It was a struggle reading the relationship between Casey and his dad. It’s a big focal point of the book and most of the tension came from that relationship. I felt like Casey could never do any good, no matter how hard he tried.

Since Casey is best friends with Houston, you get A LOT of Houston and I love Houston, so I was really happy with those parts. Sometimes I felt like Casey uses Houston as crutch for a lot of things and I know it’s part of Casey’s personality, he’s struggling, but it was slightly unattractive. What I did enjoy was Casey’s growth from the beginning to the book to the very end. He tries really hard to make something of himself and make himself happy.

Murphy is your typical singer / song writer. To my surprise she doesn’t have that many hang-ups which are nice since Casey has enough for the both of them. She has a loving family that supports her and she loves music, the only thing is, she gets stage fright. Murphy is a cute lovable girl. I wasn’t very keen on her having stage fright, but I do like that she was humble and kind.

Even though Casey and Murphy are in their early twenties at times it felt like this was a young adult novel. Casey and Murphy are very tame characters. Murphy lives at home to be closer to her brother who is disabled. I know it was her choice to stay home, but it made the book have a young-ish vibe. The steam is very mild, but not all books need steam, the story focuses more on the relationship between Casey and Murphy then the hot and heavy stuff.

So Casey sees that Murphy has mega talent and wants to help launch her since he has an internship with a major producer. Murphy is hesitant, but they forge this worker relationship, even though they know each other from high school. In Your Dreams has a slow build-up, but you get plenty of character background on the main characters. Majority of the book I felt like Casey and Murphy were more friends than anything else, which is sweet, but the romance is kind of in the background.

I found the ending a little rushed and I kind of wished the ending started at the middle of the book. Because the ending felt like it was older, more where the characters should be, but that’s me. I think if you are fan of musical theme books, you will be happy with this one. Overall, it’s a sweet story about going for your dreams and giving people second chances despite first impressions.

4 "You will slay dragons." Stars

Ginger Scott never ceases to amaze the New Adult book love within me. She captures this precarious time in our lives so eloquently with characters for whom you can imagine being friends with or at least relating to their struggles and inner demons in some profound way. Additionally, Scott's writing easily grabs readers attention and makes you hold on for the entire ride. The story of Casey Coffield and Murphy Sullivan is no different.

In this fourth addition of the Falling series we see two characters quite a bit different than the previous books. While In Your Dreams can be read as a stand alone because it has two different main characters, I highly recommend reading the entire series first. Told from the dual points of view of both Casey and Murphy, Scott takes us on a journey where two people are forced together by quite unique circumstances that turns into a great friendship and eventually something more meaningful than either of these people could have expected.

Arrogant, selfish, and secretly tortured by demons Casey Coffield is a hero who showed much growth and maturity. He was favorite kind of hero because of the leaps and bounds he made within himself and for those he cares about most. Murphy Sullivan - quiet, slightly introverted, and full of unspeakable talent makes you feel for her from the very moment you meet her. Together, the two of them wouldn't make sense on paper. But because of who they are innately without showing the world the give each other a tenderness and brand of confidence neither of them finds anywhere else.

As usual, the secondary characters in the story lend a hand to the journey. Old favorites return here and leave their mark while new ones surface to give new friendships. With each review I write for a Ginger Scott book I constantly find myself saying how much I think she owns the NA genre and it's no less here. There were parts of the book that drug a tad for me and where I wished we could see a little more passion but never once did I feel detached from these two characters. Scott's ability to connect readers to her characters stays firmly rooted with In Your Dreams just as it has with her previous titles. There's no shortage of sweet throughout this journey of two people discovering who can they be as individuals and how they can soar together. I definitely recommend for any New Adult fans.

A slow burn romance that hits all the right notes!! Ginger Scott is one of those authors who continues to deliver a story that will set hearts racing and beating to the rhythms and sounds of love. Or in this case, Ginger spins a love story that mixes passion, friendship, hopes and dreams into one beautiful heartwarming tale.

photo f44c8f79d37ccc211fd9b903a03f14_zpsjx8fsibo.gif “I’m scared because I like this Casey Coffield. I really like him.”

In Your Dreams may sound like a simple story but Ginger creates a story that is far beyond simple. This book transfixes readers to FEEL the depth of love, friendship, family, hopes and dreams. This story is more than just your standard romance but a tale that inspires us all to believe in our dreams and passion.

#InYourDreams2

Music is life. Life is love. And Ginger Scott tells a story that mixes and weaves this theme as she tells the story of Casey Coffield and Murphy Sullivan. Two beautiful souls whose life and dreams collide in one unforgettable song. A song that will electrify and sing to your soul!!! Casey Coffield lived for music. He lived for the beats, the sounds, and that power that music can bring. And so when he saw a video of Murphy Sullivan singing a song titled In Your Dreams Casey Coffield, Casey was intrigued by the the raw beauty and seductive voice of Murphy. But Casey doesn’t recall Murphy Sullivan from high school.

#InYourDreams1

photo f44c8f79d37ccc211fd9b903a03f14_zpsjx8fsibo.gif “We’ve not really done anything but fight through demons and take chances on dreams in one another’s presence, but I think I love her. It’s impossible. It’s entirely possible. My heart is a victim of this stress, and I know that’s the cause. But I also think maybe… maybe it’s not. I at least admit to myself that I love the idea of loving her.”

As Casey sees potential in Murphy and her musical career, these two begin to strike a friendship. And as their friendship begins to deepen, they soon find themselves falling. Falling in love and facing their fears together. So in true Ginger Scott fashion, she makes her readers see that nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams. Only you can do that.

photo f44c8f79d37ccc211fd9b903a03f14_zpsjx8fsibo.gif “I thought her singing was perfection. I thought no other sound could compare, but when she pants for me and cries with pleasure, I come undone.”

I love that this book sends a powerful message of facing your fears and to never give up on your dreams. So if you are ready to surrender to the beat and rhythms of hope and love, then I highly recommend you to fall hard. Fall in love with Ginger’s poetic and lyrical prose. And most importantly fall in love with the sounds of love.

This is my first time reading anything by Ginger Scott and it won't be my last. I enjoyed her writing style and character development, and Casey is quite the character. He is self-centered, and totally fool of B.S., but is adorably funny and admits he has terrible flaws to overcome. I just instantly fell in love with him and really rooted for him to succeed. Murphy, on the other hand is a shy, stay in the background kinda girl who loves to write music and sing. She is scared to death to go to Nashville and take a chance on a singing career, but she puts herself out there every week for open mic night at the local bar. Casey is trying his best to make it as a record producer, much to his father's disapproval, which causes a great divide between father and son. Murphy and Casey's love for music brings them together in a very touching and sweet way.

This sure was a page turner for me, with a great plot, very interesting secondary characters and humor to boot. I laughed out loud so many times I lost count. I really want to read the other three books in this series.

Thank you NetGalley and Ginger Scott for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I kind of liked parts of this book, but also felt mostly bleh about it. I enjoyed the beginning a lot and Casey's family drama, but from the middle to the end I ended up skimming the pages a bit. I felt like the story lost most of its steam (literally and figuratively). It was like all the pieces were there to make this novel a great New Adult book, but the execution was not the best. Some unnecessary scenes would stretch out too much and vital scenes felt rushed and short.

On the romantic side, the development of the relationship between Casey and Murphy just fell flat to me. It takes absolutely forever for Casey and Murphy to get together and I ended up getting some very bored with the whole process. She was supposed to be all shy and not like hugs, but then the author would not explain why. I get the shy, because she had a stutter, but the hugs things felt a little forced and unnatural. Especially when they have sex and suddenly she's asking for Casey to "f**k" her. This is also another problem I had. The sexual tension between them was almost none existent and the sex scene was kind of not sexy at all. It was a little weird that for the better part of the book the language was mostly clean and then suddenly words like c**k and t**s started showing up. I don't have a problem at all with those kind of words, it was just strange that the characters had never used them before and just because sex was now in the picture they begin to say them. In the end I really couldn't muster up enough feelings to actually cared if they ended up together or not.

The silver lining here are the family dynamics and the music stuff. Casey's family drama was well depicted and Murphy's loving family was a joy to read about. I did also enjoy the music parts of the book, although I wish there was more. It seemed like the author wasn't really familiar with the technicalities of music and just brushed over them to illustrate the characters and their professional relationship.

I also would like to point out that the description/synopsis of the book is a little misleading. Casey is described as an irresponsible guy and kind of a free loader, but he was actually just a little misguided. I would have liked to have seen this really screwed up Casey. Another thing that bothered me was the tease about something having happened between Casey and Murphy in high school, but in the end nothing had actually happened and that was really anti-climatic.

Dreaming Dreams

This was not my favorite but it's still good. I liked it and the characters were good, but it felt a little bland. I also didn't particularly care for how much he puts himself down throughout the entire book. I'd have preferred he found decent qualities about himself and focused on building some of those instead of always beating himself up so much. Still, I enjoyed it and Ginger is a fantastically talented author. She's still my favorite.

It started back in high school. Casey Coffield has been Murphy Sullivan’s musical muse, more than either of them realize. Casey didn’t even notice that Murphy exists, and Murphy isn’t too sure she really wants him too. But at 22, their paths cross again when Murphy’s recording hits YouTube. Suddenly Casey can’t stop thinking about the girl he can’t even remember, the girl who’s becoming his muse to being a better person.

“My mental list of defects is so long that I forget the old ones to make room for the recent ones.”

The first thing I noticed about this story is that the characters are developed well. They are perfectly flawed—as in they come across as realistic young adults who are still maturing, still emotionally growing without being broken or damaged. Murphy has to gain her confidence; Casey has to abandon his selfishness. Both need to find their way in the adult world but it’s a journey they begin to take together. I love that in a romance novel because I think that’s what being a successful couple is really about—growing together, challenging each other, making each other a better person. And that’s mainly what we see transpire between Casey and Murphy.

"Yeah, Murphy...this is about more than music. You aren't just neat."

This is a slow burn romance so there is a lot of story development before things get physical. I’ll admit, I started to worry it wasn’t even going to be depicted, though I enjoyed their little interactions—the seemingly innocent touches that were packed with so much power. When a pore cleaning session emits budding romance, it shows that the author understands the finer details of the romance genre. Attraction can be conveyed without blatant inta-lust monologues, and it’s done well in this story. And in the end I wasn’t disappointed when Casey and Murphy finally took it to the bedroom.

“‘I could watch you take me all night, Murphy. I love the way you look with me inside, so hot, so wet.’”

What I loved (like with a capital L) is how this story stays focused on Casey and Murphy—as in there is no OW/OM drama to drive it off the rails. Nadda, none, and that’s very refreshing. The drama/angst is low, and the story is very character driven. The supporting characters make a nice addition as well.

Told via Casey and Murphy’s alternating first person point of view, this is such an engaging story. I was totally drawn into their lives and struggles while rooting for their success. I was, however, a little disappointed with how a few things played out towards the end, and the final chapter felt a little rushed or perhaps simply not long enough. (I wanted more!) I would definitely like to see a novella that would give readers more of Casey and Murphy in the next stage of their lives….and some more of dirty talking Casey between the sheets ;-)

I must admit, this book was kind of a disappointment. I could still see the series' themes snaking through the pages and lurking in the shadows, but "In Your Dreams" is in no way the jewel the other three installments are.

I believe the weakest point to be the romance that is both overly simplified and not enough dissected. Throughout the book I felt like the author was only skimming the surface when Murphy and Casey were together. Basically, the two of them deal with problems that have little to do with each other and love here doesn't have a fortifying (Cass and Ty) or healing (Rowe and Nate), power. It's just something else that happens in the story, without which the plot would probably be just fine.

The ending was quite anticlimatic, too. With a plot so scarce, I was really looking forward to some major twist and this time Scott left me unsatisfied. The molteplicity of themes and complexity that had made the other three books shine was non-existent.

But. There is a but and for once it's a positive but.

The characters, taken on their own, are spectacular. I believe this to be one of Scott's strongest suits. Her characters are never one-dimentional or boring. Casey, even if I didn't love him even a smidgeon like I did Ty or Houston (Oh, God, Houston! Let's not forget Prince Charming, here)... anyway, Casey is a goddamn amazing character, a walking contradiction. Same with Murphy. They are both extremely strong but also cowards. Selfish, but altruistic. Murphy with her tough looks and social anxiety and Casey, the reformed douchebag.

All in all, I don't know if I would totally reccommend it. The story didn't speak to me like the other ones did, especially on Casey's side, even if I loved his confused feelings about his family.

Everything with Scott is smudged of those grey nuances for which is impossible to call shots on black or white. Her characters navigate realistic lifes with their contradictions. Murphy's predicament was slightly more interesting, with all its drawback and her growth. I guess the characters' growth was one of the focal points of this book, marking it more of a coming of age novel than a romance, despite the blurb.

Will I read more of Scott's books after this lukewarm romance? Hell yes! Ginger Scott has an amazing talent in picturing complex relationships and realistic dialogues and actions. In the future, I only hope to find a little more of that powerfulness that seeped through the pages of the first Falling books.

I. Loved. This. Book.

In Your Dreams is everything a new adult book should be. The writing was fantastic, the characters rich and full and a story that is unique to its characters yet relatable to readers. It's about achieving your dreams and how sometimes it takes someone else to help you get there.

The strongest part of this story was the unparalleled character development. Both Casey and Murphy are multidimensional characters who show incredible character transformations that are achingly real and the direct result of their relationship with one another. This, together with writing that is sharp and witty, Casey and Murphy's story is an unforgettable one that has left me anxiously awaiting more from Ginger Scott.

Casey is a hot mess. His life always seems to be a tangle of loose ends that he just can't ever seem to get straightened out and worse is, he knows it. Murphy is a talented singer songwriter who hides her talent behind her caring and delicate nature and supportive an endearing family. When they come together, what initially seems to be mutual disinterest slowly reveals itself to be an equally desirous and emotional connection. The slow burn nature of their story provided the opportunity for Ginger to give readers a story that was emotionally fulfilling. I never felt rushed by the progression of the story or had to reread portions to truly understand Casey and Murphy's motives and behaviors yet the writing never felt cumbersome or exuberant. The dialogue was clean, simple and fresh and was accentuated by humor and wit.

This is the part of the review where I start to feel a little overwhelmed. I want to be able to convey my experience in a way that will convince you go seek out this book and author, add it to your TBR or wish list. And with so many different voices telling you about so many different books, I'm just gonna go with unabashed honesty here - Ginger Scott should feel so incredibly proud of this book. I kind of feel like she already does. It shows in the unassuming humbleness of her writing and in her meticulous attention to character growth.

Even now, as I write my review, I'm changing my initial four star rating to five stars. It simply deserves it. Read it, you will probably love it too.

I should have trusted my gut and just not. I didn't like the story telling format for this one and couldn't get past that. So, I gave it up. It may work for you because I like the author and other books she's written. The first person style just bothered me here [doesn't always] and I couldn't settle into the story. May just be me.

Happy Reading!

Casey Coffield is what my grandma would call a free spirit, he has his flaws but at heart he is a good person. When his best friend, Houston, makes him watch a YouTube clip of a girl singing a song with his name in it he is intrigued. Sure about his name in a song, from a girl he doesn't think he knows, but from her voice, her music, her lyrics. See Casey is a DJ, producer, his love of music is taking pieces and making them better.

Murphy Sullivan is a shy, stage fright ridden girl who has a tiny past with Casey. While the song isnt really about him, it is. When Casey finds her and praises her music and offers to help her reach her dreams she is intrigued. When he offers to work with her at his new intern job at a record label she aspects. When she sees what he can do she is amazed he took a song she thought was great to a new level. When she is offered a deal on the song she is cautiously optimistic but when the industry screws her over Casey will have to work to make things right and to make things right with Murphy. In doing so he might just have to lose what he wants most to make her life's dreams fulfilled.

I love this series. The character are perfectly flawed and strong in their own ways. The writing is top notch and flows. You become lost in the words, in the stories, till you realize the sun has set, the kids are in bed, and work is in 3 hrs!

First things first…I love this cover. Secondly, I love this cover even more. Thirdly, it fits absolutely perfect with this book. Okay, I have that out of the way.

In Your Dreams is the fourth book in the Falling series. I guess it’s a bit of a spin-off per se. You can definitely read this one as a standalone but since I love this series, I recommend you read this one after the first three books.

We were introduced to Casey, Houston’s best friend in the last book, The Girl I Was Before. He’s a tad much, he’s always taking from his best friend, he’s a bit over-the-top personality-wise, cocky, and really makes no excuses for himself. His passion is music, mainly DJ’ing. Unfortunately, his father does not see eye-to-eye with his passion and has not supported him for a very long time. Sadly, because his father does not understand why he is not an engineer as opposed to a DJ there relationship is non-existent putting a large strain on his relationships with his entire family.

Casey finds out that there is a YouTube song of someone singing about him and he must seek out this person. It actually became a bit of an obsession. Unbeknownst to him, Murphy (the girl in question), actually went to high school with him but he has no prior knowledge of this. They were two people on vastly different ends of the social spectrum.

“If my music had a physical form, I think it might just be her.”

Immediately he is taken with her talent as well as other things… Casey has decided he is going to help Murphy become the star that he knows she can be.

Ginger delivered a beautiful, slow burn romance that will have you rooting for Casey and Murphy. Between the realistic portrayal of their relationship and the music that was incorporated I really enjoyed this one. The ending did have me tearing up a bit as it showed how much the both of them helped shape the person they’d become. FYI-thanks to Ginger, I think DJs might actually be sexier then lead singers. I know this might sound strange but the way Ginger described his DJing, I swear I felt like I was literally at the club while he was spinning his tunes. She described it that amazingly!

“I’ll wish for you because wanting you isn’t enough and having you is too fleeting. And should we find ourselves apart, I’ll wish twice as hard, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll be luck enough to run into you in one of your dreams.”

Both Casey and Murphy were extremely likeable and there were real-life issues sprinkled in to add more depth to this book. The reason I like the Falling series so much is because there is not silly drama thrown in, there is so much heart and sweet romance. Plus this series is one of the reasons why I love New Adult so much.

Casey Coffield can't seem to get things right. Well not really but since he seems to be the black sheep of his family and the friend that usually does more asking for favors than he'd like to admit. When Casey stumbles upon a video that he's an unknowing feature in, he does whatever it takes to track down the girl whose voice captivates him.
Murphy remembers Casey well, but Casey... his memory needs a bit more jogging.
When the road of pursuing their individual dreams intersect, their relationship is about to get a lot more interesting.

I am a big fan of the Falling Series (it's a five star series for me) and so with this new addition I was both excited and a bit nervous. If you are familiar with the other books in the series you probably understand why. I mean all I could wonder about is if Casey could really live up to my Preeter boy love?
Short answer: YES.
Long answer: YESSSSSSS!

There's something about the boy with the hidden tender heart that just does it for me. Casey Coffield may be the black sheep of his family but he is the golden boy of book boyfriends and I abso-freakin-lutely adore him. Casey's story and family issues pulled at my heart in a surprising way. It was both touching and a bit heart-wrenching to see him feel so isolated from the people he loved most but the dedication to the pursuit of his dream and personal happiness had me smiling from ear to ear.
Casey's heart is amazing.... I won't go into my favorite reasons of why this statement is true because it's something you should read for yourself so you're going to have to trust me on this one.

Not to be out shined is Murphy. I adore Murphy. She's the kind of girl you want to hang out with and the kind you'd be happy to call a friend. Not too much of a shock then when I tell you that she's a new addition to my book bestie list. I loved that while she's struggled in the past, in DREAMS she's strong, fierce, and ready to show her heart. She is definitely the constant rock of this book. Her emotions stay the course and I loved that we didn't have to deal with a tumultuous ride with these two.

It was a great read that I read in one sitting because I was enjoying it way too much to consider putting it down for even a moment.

What a fantastic addition to this series!

The 'Falling' series is one of my very favorite new adult series. No one can beat Houston (from the last book) in my opinion but Casey is great in this. I loved his sense of humor, how he cares for those he loves, and his friendship with Houston is my favorite. There is plenty of their bromance in this one.

I liked Murphy, but for some reason I had trouble feeling the connection between she and Casey. This one is also a slow burn romance which aren't really my favorites, so maybe that had something to do with it. I did like reading about how much Casey changed throughout the course of this story. If you remember him from the last book, he was a little vain and didn't really take much seriously. It's a good chamge for him when Murphy comes around. This is a very well written story as always. I'm excited to see what Ginger has planned for us next!

It’s funny that I didn’t realize there is one place in the book that really clenches the meaning of the title until I was finished and looked at the title again. Just a random thought there!

I love Ginger Scott’s writing and I don’t even look at the title anymore or the blurb I just sign up for whatever she writes. I always relax as soon as I start because it always just pulls me in. She writes moments where I am just laughing hard and also where I tear up a little at the sweet moments too. It is told in both Casey and Murphy’s points of views. Also we get to peak in on some characters from the previous book. Bonus!

I love this quote, it makes me laugh...

“Go on. It’s not much, but… it’s really not much now that I dropped it on the ground,” he grimaces. “And I brought chocolates, but I ate four of them in the car because, well…I thought I might be in there for a while-ax and all.” “Four?” I ask, noticing the completely empty top layer exposed in the small box by his hand. “Maybe six…” he smirks. “Okay, seven. Fine. Eight.”

And this quote too..

(He) manages to walk me backward into the small nook at the far end of the bar. "Oh...oh no you don't," I start, my heart beating hard as I put my palm flat on his chest, which is...hot. It's warm, I mean. But it's also hot. And hard. And really big and immovable. My eyebrows narrow, and I push harder as his arms fall to his sides and his thumbs find his pockets. "What are you, like a bouncer on the side? Were you always this... big? I look up realizing what I said and the right side of his mouth ticks up. Jedi dimple. I roll my eyes in response. "Stocky," I say, my lips pursed. "I mean stocky. And...pushy. I definitely mean pushy."

Ms Scott’s characters are always flawed and by the end they grow and you can’t help to fall in love with them. And I did as usual; fall in love with Casey and Murphy that is! Casey’s family has made him feeling like he will never amount to anything if he follows his dreams and not something that is responsible and will be relevant to the world. Casey wants to be someone in the music industry, not to sing but to make someone’s music good. It’s a hard road and may not be fruitful. He also feels like he is selfish and a jerk. But he’s not, not really.

Murphy has a wonderful family who love her. They do things together. She has a brother who has Down’s syndrome and she loves him. Casey really likes him too. Murphy sings and she is good. Casey just knows she needs to be singing for the world. He tries to help and hooks her up with his boss. Murphy has a secret too. It affects her talking with other people. She’s sweet but she is also a little shy.

This is the story of two people and how they help each other and would sacrifice for the other. Funny they never would have really talked if it hadn’t been for a song that Murphy made that was put on You Tube with Casey Coffield’s name in it. They are like strangers at first and they slowly find something in each other that they like and they want the best for the other. They are willing to be there for each other first and then fall for the other next. That’s what I really liked; how they slowly became friends and then something more!

I prefer the closed door on sex. I have learned to skim over it now. I am not a fan of the F word either. But I tolerate it. What I don’t like is some crass words and there were some here. It just makes moments of intimacy less sweet and more distasteful to me. I am pretty sure it wasn’t in the previous books and maybe it doesn’t bother you but it bothered me. But that is what I like and is no reflection on the author.

I recommend this book to lover’s of New Adult, Tums, flying, dancing at clubs, biore strips, music, overcoming your shortcomings, learning to step up to the plate, being clumsy, laughing, sacrificing and being totally selfless, finding your dreams than you might just love it too!

description

This is the second book by Ginger Scott that I've read ... the first one was actually the first book in this series. I really adored This is Falling but things didn't go that smoothly for me with this one. I actually told myself that I must not have read this author before and I need to put her on my 'No, Thank You' list for the future. You can imagine my surprise when I realized that I had in fact really enjoyed another book by her.

Diving right in ... I get a few books each day to review. They pile up pretty quickly sometimes ... I add them to a schedule and then pretty much move on until it's time for that next book in line. I read the blurb when I get the book and then not again until I'm finished reading. It can be months in between those two ... I like doing it this way because I go into a book knowing absolutely nothing and everything is a surprise. When I picked this one up and started reading, I would have bet the life of my first-born that the book was in a woman's POV in the beginning. It had a feminine feel to it for me or something. I just assumed that it was a chick. Negative. It's totally not. Casey is a dude. I had no clue. I was only a few pages in, but I had to start the book all over again because I just couldn't get the female stuff out of my head.

I liked the characters ... for the most part ... in the blurb is says that Casey has women just flocking to him because they can't resist his swagger and charm. I know nothing of this swagger. Or charm, for that matter. I didn't think that he had the confidence that I associate with said swagger. He seemed very unsure of himself and everything around him. I also didn't think that he was charming. I just thought that he was a dude ... but that was it. I didn't pick up on any redeeming qualities or any memorable qualities either. I didn't connect with the dude. But then again, I didn't connect with Murphy either. I didn't understand the motivation behind creating a character like her. And once again ... no memorable qualities. They were just taking up space on the pages, is what it felt like. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you what the characters look like if you offered me a million bucks. That's unfortunate.

The pacing of the book was different. There was a lot of inner dialogue which really dragged the book down. It felt awfully weighty and then when you add in how the plot seems to move smoothly and then it gets caught on something and it totally slows down. Here ... it was like mowing your grass ... you've got your headphones in, you're jamming out to your favorite song and just walking along and then all of the sudden, you don't realize that you've stepped in dog doo but it's so hot outside that you don't want to stop mowing, so you just keep mowing but with each step you drag your foot in the grass, trying to get the doo off your shoe. Whew. Long explanation to tell you that the book slows down but hey, I wanted you to experience it with me!

This wasn't the book for me but hundreds (no joke) of people really enjoy this one. I don't think that I'll give up on Ginger Scott but I will probably hesitate a little bit before I pick up another book by her if it's anytime in the near future.

I’ve stated before that Ginger Scott is one of the most underrated authors I read. I’ll add to that now by stating, she is the queen of perfect little moments. Scott has a way of slipping in these touches or breaths or glances and turning them into such profound moments. I absolutely adore them!

For example, this is Murphy and Casey just hanging out and sharing a look. Just a look.

"Gray finds me fast and hold me hostage. I submit with nothing but the truth."

Or here, same scene just a little bit farther along…

"Lane’s voice echoes from a few doors down, breaking up what might have been my favorite full minute of breathing ever. It was definitely my most honest minute ever. And I didn’t have to say a word."

Her books always have these great and perfect little moments placed at just the right times.

Did I just fangirl pretty hard right there? I did, didn’t I? *shrugs*

Anywho…on to the story of In Your Dreams.

Casey Coffield is kind of a mess. An adorable and charming mess, but a mess none the less. He’s aware and keeps good mental notes on all his flaws that really need attention. But he keeps his focus on the ones that may impede him from his dreams in the music business. The rest of those flaws can be fixed later. Until he happens across a YouTube video of a girl singing a song titled, In Your Dreams, Casey Coffield. A song he loves, a song he wants to put his spin on, a song he doesn’t really understand.

Murphy remembers Casey very well, even if he can’t remember her. She’s very aware of the type of person Casey is. Or, at least, was. And she’s not about to fall for his false charms. Until they really are no longer false and the connection they both have to music becomes more.

"I’ve had sex. I’ve had boyfriends. What I’ve never been is almost kissed. I think maybe I like the almost kiss even better. Or maybe I hate the almost kiss."

It’s a slow burn romance. They are strangers who work with each other before they are friends who flirt, who eventually become lovers. Oh man, when they do…HOT! But again, it’s all the little moments that lead up to their love and all the ones that follow after they become lovers that make In Your Dreams the book it is. The interactions between these two were sweet and humorous and absolutely delightful. They bond over a Biore pore cleansing strip. I mean, really, it sounds odd but it’s so fantastic.

Take two independently strong characters and throw them into all the situations that make them insecure, throw the scariest parts of life at them, and then watch them learn to lean on someone they never would have expected. And love it but know it’s not completely sound and solid. That’s what this book is.

I loved every bit of their story and my only complaint would be that I would have liked a little more at the end. I needed more time with them, I didn’t want it to be over.

In Your Dreams is technically the fourth book in the Falling series but you can absolutely read it as a stand alone.

So. Many. Feels.

This story is the kind that seems simple on the surface – broken boy with big dreams meets a girl from his past who turns his life upside down. But in reality, this is a complex study of family and responsibility, of love and support, of acceptance and selflessness, and of that moment when you realize life is hard but it’s definitely worth the fight.

Ms. Scott has once again given us a story with many layers, and characters with depth and strength. Casey may appear on the outside to be a bit of a slacker, an overconfident guy who’s life choices have disappointed his family and left him dependent on his friends’ generosity. However, as you scratch the surface, you begin to realize that he’s committed to making this dreams a reality and, although at times he can be selfish, he understands his flaws and wants to be a better man. As a matter of fact, he’s probably more aware of how others see him than many characters I’ve read about before. Of course, his charm and general level of swooniness (yes, it’s a word) make him downright irresistible! Unlike Casey who seems to wear his faults on his sleeve, Murphy is a tougher nut to crack. It isn’t until much later in the story that we see just how broken she is and the huge effort it’s taken for her to overcome the challenges that life has thrown at her. Her strength, and her determination to take charge of her life even thought she’s scared, leave the reader in awe of this character. Together these two challenge each other, push each others’ buttons, and help each other grow. This book is quite a journey!!

Now, I know I haven’t really told you much about the story and there are several reasons for that. First, the synopsis should tell you enough to get you interested and, second, I don’t think I could do the story justice in just a few paragraphs. There are so many emotions here…so much story to immerse yourself in, that you need to experience it for yourself.

However, there is definitely one thing I need you to know. If I’ve learned one thing in my reading journey over the last while it’s that Ms. Scott is not afraid to tackle tough situations and, when difficult family issues, or disease, or handicaps appear in her novels, it’s done with care, with accuracy, and with a level of respect that you’d be hard pressed to find in other books. The challenges faced in this story are very real. This could be a story about your neighbor, your friend or even your sibling. It is real world mixed in with romance…this is a book that makes you think and makes you feel. And, seriously folks, can you ask for more than that? I think not. If you don’t know Ginger Scott, don’t wait another minute…this is one author you definitely want on your shelves…and these are characters you want in your life!!
