What happens when two best friends pretend to be newlyweds on a romantic Caribbean cruise? Brad Taylor’s been left at the altar. He’d take the honeymoon alone, but his non-refundable tickets are for a newlyweds-only cruise. Brad needs a spouse to get on that ship, so he asks his best man (and best friend) for a quickie Vegas wedding. Now they both can have the time of their lives in the Caribbean.
Best man Cameron Hines has never been able to say no to Brad’s hare-brained schemes, but this one takes the cake! The truth is, Cameron would be happy to be Brad’s husband - for a lifetime. But pining after a straight man is the road to heartbreak. Better to go play in the sun with his best friend and resign himself to ending the charade once they return to their regularly scheduled lives.
Brad knows he’s not gay, but he’s not entirely straight either. Playing the happy honeymooning couple with another man is the perfect opportunity for some sexual experimentation. It’s just a shipboard fling—it won’t wreck a friendship as strong as theirs. Or will it?
Can the salt sea air and island cruise magic transform this sham marriage into the type of happily-ever-after that comes with knowing that “Today I married my best friend”?
Honeymoon Hoax is a standalone gay romance with a HEA ending.
Devyn Morgan is a contemporary man with a love of contemporary romance! He grew up in several different states due to his parents' careers, which instilled in him a love of travel and seeing new places. After finishing college, he traveled around the globe for two years in search of romance, experiences, and adventures. In that time, he came up with more story ideas than he could ever use, so he started to write gay fiction.
He currently lives in the eastern US with his partner and a dog, but he still considers himself a free spirit.
Way too short. That's the only complaint I have about this adorable book. Being left at the altar by his fiancée, straight womanizer Brad Taylor's biggest disappointment is not being able to go on that awesome Caribbean cruise that he got for a bargain as a newlyweds deal.
His friends fortunately point out the heavenly coincidence that Brad's best man and gay best friend Cameron Hines shares his fiancée's name, making it possible for Brad to go on the awesome vacation after all - just with his best friend instead of a wife. And isn't that even better?! The fact that they need to be newlyweds is quickly remedied in a Las Vegas chapel - the wedding was booked anyway, so why waste money and time?
Little does Brad know that Cameron has been in love with him for years and this marriage is his ultimate dream come true - just under different circumstances, of course.
When horny Brad proposes a deal to Cameron - a little sexual experimenting among guys in their honeymoon suite which doesn't have to change their friendship - he needs to decide if this scam marriage is worth risking their friendship over. Brad would certainly return to his womanizing ways when their trip is over, after all.
I loved this story. It was way too short and probably a little too straightforward (Brad as a straight guy has quite a gay side going on, lol), but all in all this story really touched me. It's the perfect holiday read.
The two stars are generous ones, it's more ridiculous than it is awful. Silly bit of fluff, starts with a major (unlikely) coincidence and don't expect and any development any working things out, serious possibility of whiplash with the declarations. And Brad...didn't win me over.
- I refuse to acknowledge this book as GFY. Brad is bi. He just didn't know it before. - If Cameron was just going to jump into bed with Brad right from the start, I'm going to DNF'ed. Thank goodness it didn't happen that way. - Aaaaww. It's just too cute and sweet. <3
This is a sweet, OFY, friends-to-lovers story. Leave reality at the door if you go to read it because it's about as far from realistic as it can get. I loved it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I wished it had been longer, but I thought it was delightful. I admit that a “straight man” probably wouldn’t be so quick to have sex with his best friend, but this is fiction so that doesn’t bother me. I look forward to reading more books by Devyn Morgan.
I thought it was a short, cute book, I mean there had to be a couple of things in perfect alignment for it to happen but come on this is fiction ;-) I actually really liked Brad he was so chill about everything. Sometimes I just like when an MC goes with the flow. I know there are some people like that in RL. I really thought they were sweet together. I loved that Cameron got his HEA.
A short sweet completely unrealistic novella about two best friends, their Star Wars themed last-minute Vegas wedding and cruise. A nice piece o' fluff.
Cute but flawed. I'm getting a kick out of all the marriage of convenience stories that are cropping up in m/m since marriage equality became the law of the land. This one was pretty far fetched- a guy's fiancee leaves him at the altar, so he marries his bff, who is gay and also happens to have the same name as the runaway bride, so that he can still go on the amazing honeymoon cruise he booked. The bff has been in love with him since childhood, of course. Even with how unlikely this all was, it was light and cute, and I was willing to go with it.
What pushed it too far for me was when the groom went from "marrying my best friend on a lark" to "I want to be with this person forever" within about 24 hours. And all with no prior romantic or sexual interaction between the two of them, and nothing but a few kisses after the wedding. In a longer story, with more build up and more time for growth and development, I could have bought it. But at 62 pages, including the quickie wedding at the Star Wars chapel down the street (which was admittedly fun) and a too-pat, one-year-later epilogue, the insta-commitment didn't work for me. Also, there was a moment when the groom justified some of what was happening as "hey, this is just what guys do when there aren't any women around, NBD" which was kind of gross and exactly what people have been pointing to as hurtful and offensive about GFY. And he talked about having tried to talk his ex into pegging him, which totally didn't make him gay, but then later that was proof that the bff should trust his sudden desire for a Big Gay HEA, because he was so down with the butt sex thing, even though they hadn't done it yet or anything.
The three star rating is kind of a compromise. I really enjoyed the first part of the story, and I was expecting to rate it much higher. But the squickiness and the completely unbelievable change of heart by the groom really doesn't deserve three stars.
The premise is dumb. Like seriously. It's not good. There are two dudes. Dude 1 just got jilted at the alter. Dude 2 is his bff and has been in lurve with him forevers. The whole premise hinges on. Wait for it. Dude 1's ex fiancee and Dude 2 have the same name. Cute, right? No. Like first name and last name. God, I'm having flashbacks to Batman v Superman just writing this. So. The premise is bad.
However. I have not let thin premises stop me from enjoying naked guys rubbing against each other before. Why start now?
Honestly, if you suspend reality a little bit and just ignore that whole name thing and go with it, it was actually pretty cute. Dude 1 is adorably dumb. Dude 2 is adorably smitten. So together? Adorable squared. It wasn't earth shatteringly awesome, but it was short and cute.
This is a very short novella of two best friends getting fake-married and then actually staying married.
It's very short, light and not believable and there's so much left to be said here.
Brad was left at the altar by his girlfriend but he had paid this amazing Majestic love cruise for newlyweds and he really wanted to enjoy that trip, which was non-refundable. He made a deal with his childhood best friend Cameron, who's gay, to fake marry him and for them to have this "pretend gay experience" for the sake of enjoying all the activities on the cruise.
It was funny and interesting, but the transition to Brad actually warming up to having a sexual relationship with Cameron was sadly not done well.
I get it, Brad was young, horny and wanted to experiment, but even so, it's complex when it's your best friend, whom you don't want to hurt, right? So that struggle should've been pointed out and also him never having sexual experiences with other men, so essentially a bi-awakening, which is not done with just "sure, let's go for it" with full speed ahead like nothing important is changing in his life.
If the story had a bit more layers of Cameron and Brad coming together, it would be more believable and even though the epilogue was really good, it held no emotional weight for me.
Brad & Cameron Have Sweet & Sizzling Chemistry Together!
Brad and Cameron have been best friends, since they were little. Brad is "straight" and engaged to Cammie. Cameron is gay and has been secretly in love with Brad since middle school. After Brad's engagement is broken off, he still had a honeymoon cruise. Since Cameron had the same name as Cammie, Brad asked Cameron to marry him. After a Star Wars theme wedding in Vegas and a very steamy kiss, the men leave for their "fake" honeymoon cruise.
Brad is clueless of Cameron's feelings and love for him. It takes a call from someone close to him to make Brad see what's right in front of his eyes. Luckily Brad is able to make things right before destroying his friendship and his love. Both Brad and Cameron have been watching out for and taking care of each other over the years.
I love the chemistry between Brad and Cameron. I loved the respect and love the characters had for each other. The movie songs / theme references made me chuckle, especially The Beauty And The Beast one. I loved how Brad and Cameron's story developed and ended. I highly recommend this story. I was given this arc book in exchange for an honest review.
I was looking for a quick, short story with one of my favorite tropes (the fake marriage) to read before bed and I was ready to close an eye or two on pretty much everything, from lack of characterization to a realistic relationship’s progress, as long as it entertained me for an hour.
I couldn’t get on board with the story and the characters, though. Cameron was ok, I suppose, but Brad… The supposedly straight MC’s actions and reactions regarding gay sex were completely unrealistic, he took everything in stride, telling himself that he was horny and sex is sex, shouldn’t be much more different with a man or a woman. Yeah, right.
In the end, I didn’t enjoy the result enough to give it a higher rating.
Awwww. A bit unbelievable (both his best friend and ex-fiancée had the exact same name which of course worked for the marriage license), and another straight man who goes gay SO EASILY. But I really loved this book. Such a light, feel good read of best friends becoming lovers. I seem to have a special affinity for these 'fake marriage to get a vacation' type stories LOL, but there you have it. I LOVED the characters. Made me smile and laugh out loud many times. Some may find it a little cheesy (especially the ex's role in things). I just found it fun.
I needed a quick read to fit between ARCs, and this was it. If you're looking for character development, angsts, and reality, this isn't your book. If you want a quick, sweet, little steamy book about friends-to-lovers, go for it.
I like Brad and Cameron; especially their friendship. They have a better relationship than other characters with 400 pages to get to know each other. Just a fun summer read with a nice group of friends.
OK, so yes...several things had to happen perfectly for this to work - seriously, MC has both a guy friend and a girlfriend with the EXACT same name? But this is fiction after all, so it's possible there!
I would give this 3.5 stars...it's a pretty sweet, easy read. Nice fluff, enjoyable characters, and it was fun, if a bit not possible haha
This story was wonderful, short, but cute and said it all. Two best friends, become husbands and then real partners for life. Totally heart-warming. It made me smile.
i like the books devyn writes, short sweet reads for a quick getaway from life. with this one surpassed himself. i was a bit sad it was over and hoped there was more to follow!
brad's been left at the altar. to drown his sorrow, his best mena nd himself have a merry get together instead of the wedding party. tipsy as he is he can't help but complain that his all paid for wedding vacation is now not happening. an all-in cruise with lots of awesome activities at a low price. he can't just go with a friend because the low price had a catch to it : you had to be married and that is just the problem! he's go spouse! his best friend cameron is sad with how things went for brad. he didn't deserve this. he wished he could comfort him in the way he would prefer, always having had a crush on him but brad had always stated that he was straight, so a secret crush it was. one of their friend comes up with the brilliant idea for the two of them getting married and go on that cruise! brad, in his drunken state is all for it and it doesn't take him long to get on one knee and ask cameron to marry him. he doesn't really know how to handle it, deep down it's THE thing he wished for for a long time, but he also knows it's just pretend. he can't help but want to help his best friend and accepts. not much later and the group of men makes their way onto the vegas strip and finding a wedding chapel to tie the knot. from there on out things are moving fast. the little changes in brad towards him make him wonder if maybe, really maybe, brad might feel more for him? will this cruise be a time for exploring a secret desire or is it a road straight to hell with misgiving after misgiving?
the road these two make is one of acceptance and seeing things for what they really are. sometimes it's hard to see what is right in front of you! really really liked this book! and it's on my list to read again soon!
The premise suckered me in and made me really want to read this, especially since it was going to be short. So, I knew it was going to be a little ridiculous... The premise was even more far-fetched and corny than I'd imagined... but it was so worth it! I absolutely loved this little story. In fact, I really didn't want it to end. It could have been stretched out a bit more and I'd have been happy, though at least it didn't get boring! Something about the writing just really got me... I really felt like I knew these guys and they were speaking to me. Brad, especially, is adorable. I looooove the Star Wars references, and other random tidbits. I loved the little glimpses of their childhood, and the personality quirks that made them seem like real people and not vague caricatures. I immediately went out and added all of Devyn's books to my wish list. Short and adorably sweet, with laughs and great little moments.
Honeymoon Hoax is another fun, quick and sweet read from Devyn Morgan!
I really loved Cameron in this story and a couple of times my heart hurt for him. He's had a crush on Brad for a long time and a few times in the beginning Brad seemed to be a little dense about his actual feelings. BUT, I loved the two of them together, they really are the perfect fit. I loved watching them both figure out what they really meant to each other and that true love does exist!
Even though this is a short story, it still felt like there was a lot going on and I felt like I really did get to know these guys well.
I really enjoy reading Devyn's books when I want something sweet that I know will make my heart happy and Honeymoon Hoax was one of my favorites!
Really enjoyed this book. Best friends since childhood with a few scheming friends made this a book worth reading!! First book by this author but it won't be my last.
Cute short read. I liked the idea of the book but would have liked Brad's emotions for Cameron to be developed a little bit more. I felt it was too rushed and really kind of out of nowhere. But I thought Cameron and Brad together were really cute.
Fun quick read. Happily ever after, fairytale story. Even if the premise is too good to be true, it was a great warm and fuzzy read. The characters are fun, they're nice guys and everything works out fine. There's even some sex.
