In her life there is one rule: survive. Kidnapped and forced into an underground fighting ring, Vanessa Burns knows each day could be her last. A win and she wakes up tomorrow. A loss and they toss her out with those she’s defeated. Escape is futile; she’d tried and failed. Multiple times. And as she’s forced to live in her shifted form, she’s utterly powerless. So, her life has been dwindled down to one option. And she carries it out to the fullest of her abilities.
Then, another shifter is brought in. Travis Kameron, an Alpha, proves to be a formidable enemy. She knows the day is coming — when she and the Alpha are pitted against each other. And she knows she won’t win. The deadly encounter results in a bloody promise, and Vanessa must choose what is more important to her: fulfilling her vendetta against her greatest enemy, or obtaining the one thing she wants most in her life.
If it weren't for the occasional profanity or reference to male arousal, you would think this was a Christian romance book until the last 5 chapters, with the passive, submissive female lead and the very pro-birth even-in-the-case-of-rape storyline. The romance is extremely slow and honestly, uninteresting. It had a good start: Vanessa is held captive and is winning in underground fighting rings. She's pregnant by her rapist and has already decided to keep it (though the reader never sees the event nor is let in on her decision making process).
As soon as she is rescued, she changes into someone completely dependent on the men in her life. She just floats through life in a daze as things happen to her and decisions are made for her. Her only thought is for the life of her unborn child. More than once, she stumbles into a situation and her inner monologue is "I didn't even think" or "I didn't realize." I would say that all the lights have gone out in her head, but to be honest, there wasn't much evidence she had intelligence to begin with except that she could win fights (and that is all owed to her brother for teaching her to fight). I should add that all this time, she is stuck in wolf form and can only communicate through telepathic link.
After she gives birth, she becomes nothing but a mother and everyone else in the story is in love with her baby. How cute 😒 The baby-centric nature of this book felt heavy-handed to me. I like babies fine IRL, but in books, I hate it (or at least I hate how it's usually handled in books). The budding romance that was barely there before is put on hold as the story jumps ahead 9 months (NINE MONTHS!). Why? I still don't know. I almost quit with 1 hour left in the audiobook I was so bored.

Review This book was so good I loved every single page, my only complaint was I wanted it longer. When I first started reading I thought it was going to be just another underground fighting shifter story but this was so much more. I loved the characters and they were well written and the story had depth. I wanted to know more about what motivated Dominic but hopefully we might find out more in future story's. I loved the kiss ass heroine too. There are lots of possibilities for future books with both Travis sister's and the pack enforcers to pair off. This author is definitely going on my list to read again. An engaging read for shifter fans. Arc received from author for an honest review.
What an awesome first book and in Contemporary Fiction, PNR that I've ever read by this talented author, but it definitely won't be the last! Great story-line and new take on wolf shifters with animated characters, that kept me glued to the book & pages turning :) I never write spoilers or recap blurbs, but I do know when a book is a great must read! ... Originally I was given an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review, but loved it so much, I one-clicked my own copy to keep in my favorites, so yes I highly recommend this must read to all fiction lovers, especially in paranormal, shifters and fantasy! Can't wait for any upcoming works from Ms. Scott :D
This was my first paranormal romance and I'm a total convert. I love the dramatic storyline, the hot sexy and the fantastic characters.
Vanessa is a heroine to be proud off. She is a very strong woman who risks so much just to protect what is hers. Travis is very much an alpha male and I could feels the hotness oozing off the the page. I would have like a bit more of his back story to be included in the novel though, just to make him that little bit more rounded as a character.
The supporting characters and the villain are well defined. The villain definitely deserved his ending.
The book is well written and overall I would highly recommend.
I don’t often get a chance to read paranormal shifter romance, but I like paranormal stories, I like shifter stories, and I like romance, so I’m usually pleased with the result. Desiree Scott’s Crescent Vendetta was one such example.
1. Thoughts on the plot This book follows Vanessa and Travis as they escape from an underground fighting ring meant for shifters. Travis is the leader of his own pack and Vanessa is an outsider. But in the aftermath of their trials, he takes her in. Only, no one quite expected that things might get more dangerous. I actually really enjoyed this plot for a reason I hadn’t anticipated but am thoroughly pleased with: the author does not treat the reader like an idiot. Sometimes in worlds that are almost, but not quite like our own (e.g. urban fantasy or paranormal stories) the author takes if upon themselves to explain every nuance of this not quite our reality. That can be helpful in situations where the magic system is incredibly complex, such as one might find in epic fantasy, but it’s rarely necessary in urban or paranormal fiction. This author does not do this and I really appreciate that. Otherwise, the plot is fairly standard for this sort of story. Difficult situation leads to hero rescuing/helping heroine, which leads to sparks/feelings but also causes danger, onwards into bits that involve spoilers. A straightforward plot, but one I enjoyed.
2. Thoughts on the characters I almost felt like I was supposed to have met these characters before. I think that might be because there is another series by this author featuring other characters mentioned in the book, but I’m not entirely sure. Either way, I think it works out well enough. The characters are interesting and fun, though there isn’t a massive amount of depth in the backstory or development area. For a book like this, though it’s not necessary.
3. Favourite part The fact that our hero gives our heroine agency. I am super frustrated by how few books of any genre do this and I really appreciate it when it does happen.
4. Critique My only real critique for this book is that the relationship moved a little quickly, almost creating feelings spontaneously from a few interactions. Realistically, I know time has passed for the characters, but I wouldn’t mind a few more on-screen interactions.
Overall, I would say that Crescent Vendetta is a very good paranormal shifter romance with an entertaining plot and characters to root for. Note: this book does contain darker themes such as sexual assault and potential abortion.
I read and reviewed this book at the author's request. She was to supply the book but I had a problem receiving it. Luckily I found it was on Kindle Unlimited (KU rocks!).
This is the first book in a series. I enjoyed reading it. It's got a good story with a lot of action and characters that are easy to understand/relate to. I found it to be well written.
As with any series there were things left open-ended. To me there seemed to be quite a lot that was left open. Maybe too much. I'll reserve further judgment until I read Book 2. The next paragraph references a couple of specific events, so I'll try to be as vague as possible because I hate when reviewers give away the story!
Two of the items that were missed in editing should definitely have been caught. In Chapter 15, why didn't the Doctor come back to the house? It's confusing especially because if changes were made they would be in the story now, and explain what happened! I found this really aggravating. In Chapter 22 it states that "Her distress still remained, at least as far as his rejection of her was concerned." What rejection?? Again, it should have been caught.
It's a good book. It's got a good story. I need to read Book #2 to see if all of my questions are answered. Hey! What an ingenious way to get people to buy your next book! 🐺
This was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure" I received an eARC and voluntary choose to review it
I really liked this book despite some shifters not being as i love them.. i love how loyal wolves can be and for sure some were purely evil but the fact it was against other shifters too made it more real, natural... strange i know. But what i loved above the rest was how patient Travis was, a real alpha protective but not too demanding...with what the characters went through and Vanessa even more it wouldn't have seemed logical if they fell immediately in the other's arms... no there is some attraction yes but they need to learn about each other, built trust and i really loved how the author was setting the timeframe to allow that.
I also loved some secondary character like Samantha ( but her story is book 3 only) who is still a secret for us, Or Jackson also very mysterious that doctor.
There are a lot of death of violence, mention of rape etc but the story is fluid and you get attached to the character and their persistence, you want them to succeed and you get suck in the story by the writing style easily.... i can't wait to start on book 2.
Travis awoke in a cage. The female wolf in the cage next to him was bleeding and unconscious. Where was he and who were the men around them? It didn't take long to realize they were being used to fight to the death while men bet money on them. The female white wolf came out of the drug and injury haze. He tried to get her to shift to human but she wouldn't. Couldn't? Vanessa didn't trust the other wolf. Even when he changed back so they could communicate. She knew they would be pitted against each other and she would die. She had fought so hard to live. She had so much to live for. Becoming allies can they escape the evil? There is so much he doesn't know. So much she can't tell him. Soon the secret will be out if she lives. She's been ignored and mistreated by her pack for her entire life. Will the one person who cared find her? Will her brother the alpha keep her safe or is there another way. This is a story of strength and hope against evil and seemingly insurmountable odds. I enjoyed the sifter story with so many twists and turns. I'm ready for the next book in the series. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On.
Travis is an alpha of a wolf shifter pack, some how he has been kidnapped and drugged - his now expected to fight for his life. He's not the only caged wolf though, there is a female wolf, that looks worse for wear.
I love a shifter read and this is most definitely enjoyable. I found them being captive and drugged and stopped from changing back to human horrid, but was a good set up for story.
Travis is a good alpha and takes Vanessa the female who was held with him under his care. I liked how he cared for her without knowing how she looked in human form - she is pregnant from being raped by her captor and if she changes from wolf to human her baby would die, so she stays in wolf form for a good 50% of the book.
I l0ved how she protected her baby at all costs, a little bit of me thought maybe she could have had a thought about not wanting baby as was not a consensual mating - but maternal love took over.
The writing and pace of book kept me interested. Travis and Vanessa developed a relationship at a good pace, it wasn't rushed and left you feeling warm and happy.
I will be reading more from this series in the future.
Crescent Vendetta has a smorgasbord of genres. We get crime, action, thriller, suspense, paranormal, and romance all rolled into one engrossing story. The book is well-written and fast-paced. There are some time jumps in the story, but they work well and the flow is good. This one is a bit dark and violent, especially with the abuse that Vanessa has suffered, but the care and protection that Travis and his family show her is part of what makes this one so good. Travis is such an endearing character. He is most certainly self-assured and proud, as I would expect from an alpha, but he doesn't come off as arrogant. The patience that he has with Vanessa is quite touching and keeps the romance side of the story moving during all the turmoil. There is a lot going on, but the story is easy to follow and the action and suspense kept me turning pages. All-in-all, this is great start to a promising series.
Who is Travis Kameron? Where is he from? What is his job? Who is Vanessa Burns? Where is she from? Who is her brother? What happened that has put them in the same location? What does Vanessa know that Travis does not yet know? Who is Aiden? Who are Emma and Samantha? When Aiden finally locates Vanessa, what happens? Who is Charles Maxwell? Where is he from? Who is he meeting and why? Who is Jackson Maddox and when does he show up? What is happening when he does? Who is Dominic? What does he want of the packs? What happens when Ava goes missing one day? What does Vanessa do? Because of what Vanessa does, Samantha follows. How does that change things? What has happened? What is going to happen? You need to read this book to find out.

Travis is the alpha of the Crescent Ice pack and has been kidnapped, drugged and dumped in a cage and he's not the only one........ a female wolf that looks like she's been there a while. He knows he needs to escape but the drugs are like nothing he has encountered before, he can't shift, his senses are gone and they expect them to fight other shifters to the death. Vanessa the female is pregnant after being raped while a wolf by her captor and if she changes from wolf to human it would kill her pup. Travis is drawn to care and protect her with his life if need be and he knows it must be the mate bond but Vanessa realises who he is and what her father did......... Brilliant read with plenty of great characters that blend together and the plot is different from the start, I would recommend getting it.
OMG to say I was riveted from page 1 is an understatement. This book had me at the edge of my seat from start to finish. The formation of the characters and plot was spot on giving you a vivid picture in your mind of the whole story. Not once was I left with wondering how the author could have expanded on the story or whether she missed a vital branch of the plot. Desiree seemed to be in my mind and no sooner did I ask a question then she answered it in her book. It had tension, worry, love, passion, intrigue with a dashing of true maternal love and showed how a community together can forge strong enough bonds to support those that need it and one man’s patience wins in the end. I could rave for a long time about this book, but you will just have to read it to understand how good it is.
Very engrossing book. The author builds tension in several ways and each are handled well. There's plot twists that are expected and others that totally throw you for a loop.
Miranda was one such curveball that you're so certain is going one way and then it swerves in a direction you couldn't have guessed. I wanted more on Sam's background but I'm sure that will come later.
Strong cast, tension that has you on the edge of your seat and dying to know what's going to gotten, moments that you'll laugh cry or want to murder certain characters.
If I had to find any criticism it's that the passage of time seeks weird since they say Vanessa was there well over a year after giving birth but everyone keeps calling Ava an infant.
Can't wait for future books as the others in the pack find their mates and hopefully we find out if the ring is now a thing of the past.
This was my second book from this author, and she really amazes me, because she can write paranormal romance as great as romantic suspense! Crescent Vendetta is the first book in the Vendetta Series. This story is really well written, with a great storyline. Vanessa and Travis are both great characters, and they both share an undeniable chemistry. The side characters are also very interesting! This story has it all! The scenes in the fighting ring are brutal and violent, but after that, the story is suspenseful, romantic, steamy and sweet. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series, Bear's Shadow! The narration was well done. This was my first listen to Rebecca Winder's voice. She has a soft voice, easy to understand. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Travis wakes up in an illegal dog fight with no memory of how he got there. He’s drugged and stuck in his wolf form. Caged next to him is a beautiful white wolf. Vanessa has been held for over 6 months and has proved to be a survivor! Travis is determined to get them freed. But will their captors ever let them truly be free? While this book took a while to get my interest, once it had me it didn’t let go! Travis and Vanessa’s story is a remarkable one full of uncertainty for the characters and just the right amount of romance for me. There are so many shifter books out there, but this one is one of the really good ones! I think I have found a great new (to me) author! 4 stars for Crescent Vendetta
Travis, Alpha of the Crescent Ice pack, wakes to indescribable pain, and the bars of a cell. He reaches his wolf out and feels another captive in another cell, moments before men come into the room, drug her and carry her out. He and she, and others, have been captured, drugged enough to prevent their shifting and made to fight their own kind to the death, for another's wealth and amusement. Not long after, Travis finds out that the woman, Vanessa is pregnant, and was raped while in her wolf form, a problem because if she ever shifts, it will kill her innocent child. Both of these wolves are strong, despite what is repeatedly done to them, when it is determined that they will fight each other. Travis protects Vanessa with his body, just as an outside force comes to bear.

When Travis finds himself kidnapped and drugged, in a cage in an under-ground fighting ring, he doesn’t panic. His alpha status keeps him calm. When he sees the beautiful white wolf, his heart stops. He has to find a way to get them both out to safety. Vanessa has been here so long, that she doesn’t ever think her brother will find her. She sees the alpha in the cage but doesn’t think it will help her. When freedom finally does come, her pack won’t accept her in her condition and she is sent with Travis to his pack. There she learns what real family means and when the unthinkable happens, she finds that maybe love is real. Excellent writing with a storyline that will leave you speechless.

Absolutely loved this book! The author doesn't focus on the fact that they are shifters, it's more of what the characters go through because they are shifters. (Did that make sense?) The book takes off with a bang and holds the readers interest until the end. I think the storyline was unique, (not that I've read every shifter story out there but I've read a lot of them) I've never come across this particular problem for a female shifter before. Extremely enjoyable read, I highly recommend it. A copy of this book was provided to me by the author with no expectations or requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
I recently became acquainted over FB with this author and decided to read one of her works. I'm glad I did. Crescent Vendetta is a fun book to read with engaging characters and a strong story line. The strength of the book is in the understated manner the author writes the story, Some books a reader can't put down, and this is not one of those, but it is a book the reader doesn't want to put down, as the need to find out what happens on the next page is as strong as the passions in the characters themselves. Read it in one evening, simply because it is that good. Looking forward to Number Two
The first book in Desiree L. Scott's Vendetta Series blew me away! I was amazed at the intensity of the action and suspense, and drawn to the romance and sizzling heat. The characters are wonderful and full of life and the storyline and plot had me instantly in love with this book. Its hard to find a good paranormal romance, let alone a paranormal romance that has such incredibly thrilling suspense. I absolutely fell in love with this hero and heroine. Both are strong and have amazing strength and the passion that starts to simmer between them had my heart sighing. Such a great story!
This was my first book by this author and I can definitely say I have a knee name to add to my paranormal reading list. The story timelines moves swiftly but gives you a full feel for the time the characters have together. The book could have been longer with more on the time in between but I think the author was right to keep the flow of the story moving. You swiftly care for the characters and become invested in the packs involved. That said I do feel like there could have just been more, a little more here and there to meat out the story.
I am looking forward to diving into Book 2. I don’t think we have heard the end of the bad guys and I look forward to angst it will bring.
This is a love story that defies the odds. It seems all men want the perfect woman but this wolf shifter found his mate in the most unlikely of places. It's so epic this tale that I could not put it down. I think Desiree Scott is my new favorite writer for paranormal romance. I love how she makes her female lead strong even with every thing she's been through and how her male lead while strong and sexy understands she still needs to have a say in how her life unfolds. Well written with believability. An all around great read.
Crescent Vendetta will keep you wanting to read it straight through. Not only will PNR lovers fall in love with it but those who love suspense will also enjoy this book. This is the first book of Ms. Scott that I have read and look forward to reading her future works, especially the rest of the Vendetta series. Her characters, Vanessa and Travis are so well written, along with the rest, you will feel you actually know them. The obstacles they face and the issues they must face and conquer can be related to by most. Grab this book, you won't want to miss it.
This is the first book in this series. Travis wakes up in a cage. He doesn't know how he got there. He is an alpha werewolf. Vanessa has been in the cage forever it seems. She was captured and now fights for her life. When they are freed by her brother things do not seem to get better. She cannot shift to her human form. She is pregnant. And her pack will not take her back. He will take her to his to protect. The story was intense in many ways. Will look out for more of the books in this series when they become available.
I can honestly say the synopsis didn't really make me want to read the book but so glad I did. The book has action, suspense, betrayal, lust and most definitely a vendetta. As soon as I was finished reading I wanted to know more about this pack. Travis and Vanessa's story will have you rooting for the both of them and finding a hatred for Dominic.
Not your typical alpha! This book doesn't really follow the alpha wolf shifter formula. Travis is kind and compassionate and patient. I've never met an alpha who was patient! The romance is a slow burn, but there's plenty of action and intrigue to keep the story moving.
I had some unanswered questions regarding the subplot and the motivations and identities of some of the players involved. That's not a critique, but I just prefer having everything tied up at the end.
Travis and Vanessa are wolf shifters and are being forced to fight other shifters to the death. Rescued by her brother, she is sent to live with Travis's pack. The story held my attention and I was intrigued by the plot. I haven't read too many shifter romances but this one has me really intrigued to continue with the rest of the series. I give this 5 wolf paws for great writing and Imagination
What a good story....Travis, such a strong Alpha and Vanessa a woman that had been through hell before she was kidnapped and put in a cage! Her father was a mean broken man before he was put down by his son. She fought for her life and her baby. Travis kidnapped and drugged met her while they both were in cages and drugged. The rest of the storyline was good....also great characters. Good reading.
