Enjoyed this one, the story wasn't new but I liked the characters and their interactions. Slater being back with his family, Nicki and Rocki and her grief and her relationship with her brother. Slater gets to know his past and deal with it while Rocki also stops hiding her life from her friends. Overall, nice one.

This is one of these time where I wonder if I read the same book as everyone else. DNFing at page 144 because I just can’t stand it anymore.

Slater is back in Red Hook for the first time in 10 years after a bad break up to help his dad with his bar. He plan to be there for a month then head out to the Middle East for his IT security job. He’s unwilling to share the reason for his return with anyone, just wants to bear it until he can go. Rocki is the lead singer for the house band. She’s been there three years and is well liked by all.

Warning, warning, the rest of this “review” is pretty much just rant. So putting the rest under a spoiler because I’m probably spoilin’ a plenty.

Perhaps I’m just not the right audience for this story. Maybe if I’d read the first two I’d have tolerated it more. But it appears this author is not for me.

Sometimes a book hits you really hard and Robin Kaye’s Had To Be You is one of those books. During the course of this book, the hero remembers some awful incidents that he has repressed for many years and in doing so, he begins to question everything about who he is and his worth to the people in his life. I had a friend who lived through an incident very much like the hero’s so to say I was a blubbering mess while reading parts of this book is an understatement. I’ll admit I was a little put off by Slater Shaw when he first appeared in You’re The One and had my doubts that he could be redeemed. However, back home and firmly entrenched with his foster Dad, “Pop”, his brothers, their significant others, Nicki the latest child his Pop has taken in, and old friends we begin to see a different side of Slater. When he’s knocked for a loop by Rocki, the singer in the house band in Pop’s restaurant and club, it becomes evident that Slater doesn’t really want the loner life he believes is the best thing for him.

I love that Slater is a geek at heart but he’s grown into a filled out handsome guy. He carries a pretty big chip on his shoulder and prefers to be alone something his family and friends and little Nicki just seem to ignore. He’s not one of those heroes you’ll immediately fall in love with, the man has issues and he holds himself back from making connections of any kind. Yet from the minute he meets Rocki, he feels protective of her and if he’s honest it’s more than just simple lust.

Nicki is another story, there’s something familiar about the little girl but he has no idea what it is or why. She makes him a little uncomfortable, but her innocent observations about life draw him in and make him see that she too has walked a difficult path in life even at age 10.

I’ve loved Rocki from the first time she was introduced and I found myself smiling as she was knocked off her high heels by Slater. She’s always so cool and poised and it was really evident that Slater affects her. Rocki has always been somewhat mysterious so when a family emergency has her almost hysterical, Pop insists Slater accompany her to take care of it.

Slater impressed me taking care of her while she was dealing with a family crisis although it became evident that he himself was dealing with an internal issue as well. It was clear that Rocki doesn’t like relying on anyone for everything so the fact that she let Slater help her and clung to him when she was falling apart made it easy to see there was more between them than either of them wanted. I love the way these two danced around each other and when they finally gave in their intimate moments went beyond lust and scared them both.

This was a very busy book with a lot going on and while the relationship between Slater and Rocki was developing they were both dealing with some pretty big revelations in their lives. Slater in particular was dealt a blow when an incident that he had repressed comes to the surface and sends him into a very dark place. In addition he’s trying to make decisions about his future and then he finds he has more than himself to consider.

The one thing I have loved about this series is that it shows us that your past doesn’t have to dictate your future and this book in particular brings that point home. Yes, Had To Be You is a love story but it’s so much more; it’s about learning to accept who you are, trusting the people you love to have your back no matter what, and that family isn’t always created by blood. While at times dark, the love in this book shines brightly lifting the darkness and ushering in a new way of looking at life.

I have been a fan of Robin Kaye since I was lucky enough to win a copy of Back to You, the first book in the Bad Boys of Red Hook Series. Ms Kaye instantly became one of my favorite authors. I have loved this series from the beginning and have had the chance to read them all. I have loved each book and adored all the characters. However, Had to Be You just might be my favorite of the series.

Slater doesn't remember a whole lot from his childhood. He knows it was a rough life before he came to live with his father (foster father) and brothers. He just doesn't remember what all happened. Slater learns more about his past than he ever wanted to know. Slater's story was very emotional. I loved how Slater's family really rallied around him. They were there for him whether he wanted it or not. They knew he needed them. I cried several times while reading this book. Ms. Kaye has a created a group of wonder characters that I feel a close connections with. I truly felt like I was living the story with a friend while reading this book. I won't tell you what happened, you must read this book to find that out for yourself.

When Slater first arrives back in Red Hook he meets Rocki. Rocki is the sexy singer at his father's bar (The Crows Nest) Slater and Rocki have an instant attraction. Look out, do NOT put anything flammable between these two because it will ignite. Rocki is determined not to get involved though. That is until her brother is seriously injured. Slater takes her home and finds out all the things that Rocki has been keeping from her Red Hook family. Rocki has had a lot happen in her life as well. She has quite a story to tell and I found myself in tears reading her story as well. This whole book was a very emotional story. I love to feel that deep connections with the characters of the story and let me tell you Ms. Kaye has written these characters so well that I really did feel the connection.

Slater and Rocki both have a lot to over come in order to be together. They both have very tragic issues and a few issues with relationships. There are a few secrets that are revealed along the way as well. We learn something in this book that we have been wondering since the first book. If you have been following the series you will know what that might be. If not I don't want to tell something that will give something big away if you have not read the whole series.

I loved catching up with everyone in the family that I had read about in previous books. That is one thing I really love about series books. I love meeting old friends in new books.

On the whole this book is just fabulous! I loved it!! I would recommend that you quickly click the link below and grab yourself a copy. If you haven't read the whole series there are links down there for those as well. I don't think you will be disappointed in any of the books. Each story in this series was wonderful! I can't wait to see what Robin Kaye may have in store for us next. I know I will certainly be anxiously awaiting the release of her next book.

I was given the opportunity to read this book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Had To Be You.

What is it about Crow’s Nest that the Boys of Red Hook keep back to? It could be the small town feel in the middle of a city and the family and friends that are always there for them. To be specific, Pete, who had taken in each three boys and raised them as his own or Nikki and her dog named D.O.G. who managed to capture everyone’s heart. I know for me it’s the Boys that are obviously now men who finally get their happy-ever-after. Ms. Kaye ended this series with an emotional punch. I had both sad and happy tears as I read this book.

Had To Be You takes off shortly after You’re The One had ended. Slater finally comes home to Red Hook to help with their family restaurant and to help take care of his pops who is still recovering from a heart attack. While Logan and Storm are busy with their lives, he takes over their responsibilities. Meeting the staff of Crow’s Nest for the first time was a bit uncomfortable since most of them knew who he was. But meeting the band’s singer caught him off guard. The attraction was immediate and since then Slater could not get her off his mind.

I was not at all prepared for this book. I knew Slater was intense but I had no idea why. Well, this book reveals it all. I was surprised with his past and my heart broke for him. At this point of his life he really needed to come to terms with his past. I’m glad he had Rocki who manages to support him despite her very own issues. Their Romance was very sweet despite the short amount of time they had to get to know each other. I found it funny that they both flirted like crazy, convince themselves that they didn’t want anything serious but yet, could not stop their feelings from going any further. Don’t get me wrong the angst was just enough that I thought it was cute not annoying at all. It was done right.

Nikki will finally find out who her biological father is. I am so happy for her, not that she lacked love and support, but it sets things in stone for her. We also get a little of the Frankie and Patrice and how they became close to this family. What fascinated me the most is how Ms. Kaye had weaved in PTSD in the story. It’s not the typical PTSD that you usually hear of or read about but just as traumatic to the victim. I surely didn’t expect any of it. Well done, Ms. Kaye.

I am excited to hear what Ms. Kaye has up next for her fans. I’m hoping she writes about the Maxwell brothers who made an appearance in the last book, You’re The One. I’m predicting a foodie romance for Ms. Kaye’s fans. =D

Slater’s past is just that, his past. So returning to Red Hook to help out his foster family while his dad recovers isn’t his idea of a good time. He’s counting down the days until he gets his contract with OPEC to go to Bahrain and start his new job. That is until he lays eyes on Rocki. He can’t believe how sexy she is, and he certainly can’t understand why she’s wasting her talent in a bar in Red Hook when she could be bringing in big bucks singing in New York City…unless she’s hiding something. As a computer geek, he’s able to break any code, breech any security wall and find the information he’s looking for. So why can’t he crack Rocki’s code? And why is she so determined to keep her distance from him when there is obviously an attraction?

Rocki has work hard over the past three years to develop relationships and friendships in Red Hook. Everything was going perfect until one sexy ex-navy man on a bike showed up and rocked her world. His raw animal magnetism is not something she can ignore, despite her best efforts. Not only is he Pete’s son, and therefore off limits, he’s also the one person who can bring her world crashing down. Rocki knows that as soon as Slater starts digging around in her past, he’ll learn her secrets and expose her for who she really is. And Rocki is not ready for that. But when Rocki receives a call that her brother has been in a serious accident and Slater drives her home, she is forced to spend time with Slater and share her secrets with him. Will he accept her for who he is or push her away because she has deceived everyone he cares about? And when Slater’s dark past rears its ugly head again, will Slater finally be able to lay his demons to rest and learn to live and love again?

Such a wonderful story of overcoming tragedy and learning to live again. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll fall in love with the characters of the Red Hook Series all over again. A very well written novel by Robin Kaye. The storyline and characters are rich and real. It’s not often that I cry at the end of a novel, but this book had me reaching for the tissues, both tears of sadness for what Slater had to go through, and tears of joy for sweet Nicki. I was so invested and involved with the plot that while I couldn’t read this book in one sitting, I was picking it up every chance I got just to squeeze in a few more pages. From Rocki and Slater to Pete and little Nicki, you will feel like you really know them by the end of the story. This book will definitely pull on your heart strings. I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait to read more by Robin Kaye.

Slater knew tragedy from a young age, but with the support of his foster family, he turned his life around. Now, back from a stint in the Navy, he’s packed up his motorcycle and returned to Red Hook to help to run the family restaurant—a job that comes with a tantalizing upside. Her name is Rocki.
Flirty, sweet, and outgoing, Rocki brings in crowds as the lead singer of the house band. And although she’s unable to resist the charms of this intense bad boy, she refuses to open her heart to him. Overall a great book. A hard hitting book, with a great beginning, middle and end. 5 stars.

OMG. Really good reading. This is one that will pull at your heart strings. The ending was such a tear jerker. I was completely drawn into this story that I even felt the bottom of my stomach drop at the reveal of Slaters 'story'. I must say, I really admired Rocki! Ya gotta love a woman with moxie! And how could ya not fall in love with Nicki! But, what I love most, is knowing that 'Home To You' follows this book and we get to read about Jax.

This blurb came from Goodreads.

I read the blurb and liked the thought of former military, foster family, and hidden secrets but I was leery about requesting this because it was the third and I had not read the previous ones. So I bought the first one and after giggling my way through it I bought the second, then went ahead and requested Had to be You. I am very glad I read the first two installments first because I would have been completely lost. As a result I highly recommend giving the first two a try if you are intrigued. I will try to avoid spoilers from the previous books.

Slater arrived back home ready to do his part in helping his foster father continue to recover from his heart condition. When Slater entered the family restaurant among the changes he noted was the live music, especially the lead singer. He was only planning on sticking around for a few months before heading overseas on a contract so he wasn’t going to pass up the idea of a little fun. He and Rocki hit things off quite well until all of a sudden she shut him down and tried to keep things friendly but distant. Not one to give in easily since Rocki’s interest to him was obvious, Slater used every opportunity to be around her and provide temptation.

Rocki loved her time in Red Hook and had found almost a second home complete with friends and family. As much as she loved her time there, Rocki was extremely careful about sharing any real personal information managing to deflect or distract inquiries. Then during one of her sets, a strange man walked into the bar and managed to disturb her usual performance concentration. Looking forward to some flirtation and maybe a good time Rocki’s hopes were dashed when she learned that Slater was one of Pop’s kids. She immediately put an end to the flirtation only to discover that he kept showing up and tempting her to change her mind.

As Slater and Rocki danced around their attraction the supporting characters started exerting their influence. Rocki’s friend Patrice known for her inquisitive and interfering nature started throwing them together while pestering Rocki about her life before she arrived in Red Hook. Nicki, the latest of Pop’s kids, whose parentage is an ongoing question throughout this series kept throwing Slater off of his game by insisting on his interaction. Nicki had already bonded with Slater’s two brothers in previous installments. I kept giggling as I watched Rocki and Slater’s mental gymnastics as they dealt with the others in their lives. Then Rocki received a phone call and everything changed.

I enjoyed the growth Rocki and Slater experienced. Rocki learned that true friends are upset when they feel cut out not because they need the information but because they care about you as a person. Slater learned there was a lot more to family than he ever guessed even with Pop’s example. Learning Rocki’s past really explained a lot of her behavior and showed how she and Slater had similar issues trusting other people. Watching Rocki, Slater, and Nicki overcome their pasts, learn to trust and love each other, and learn what they would do for that love was very rewarding.

Had to be You provided a very satisfying ending to the three foster brothers. I enjoyed their stories and fell for the entire town not just the main characters. The central position held by the restaurant, the esteem everyone had for Pop, and his attempts to arrange everything just the way he wanted it. I loved the inclusion of Rocki’s family in the later part of the book and found myself really hoping a certain daredevil gets his own story. I also think I need to look at some of Kaye’s backlist while I wait and hope.

I give Had to be You a B

Robin Kaye brings readers the final book in her Bad Boys of Red Hook series, Had to be You. Readers who have followed this series about a very special family in the heart of Brooklyn, are sure to find this book just right in every way. Kaye's attention to detail and steamy scenes are a trademark that readers have come to expect from this author and both shine in this book. When Slater Shaw returns home for a short stint running the family bar in Red Hook, he never expects to find a sexy singer who slips into his heart before he can stop her. A great final book in a well written series.

What I liked:

Out of all of the boys that Pete Calahan took into his family and into his heart, Slater is probably my favorite. Returning home after some time away in the Navy and going to school, this sexy hero is a real heart stopper. He has it all, good looks, a great personality and a ton of underlying issues that not even he is completely aware of. Robin Kaye creates a character that is suffering from PTSD without even knowing it. Slater has always been a very intense kind of character in the series, but readers never really knew why, until this book. He goes through some rough situations, but luckily he finds someone to stand by his side.

Rocki is a very mysterious young woman. She is very happy-go-lucky. A major flirt and full of surprises, but when it comes to her past, nobody really knows a thing about her. When her brother takes a bad fall skiing she turns to the Pete and his family for help. Slater takes her North and in the process starts to build on the sparks of attraction he and Rocki have both been feeling. I liked her as character very much. Kaye fills the reader in a little bit at a time about Rocki's past and she and Slater help each other through some really tough times. I loved how well they fit together.

Slater was the kind of character who needed a strong woman and Rocki was definitely that. And when these two characters finally get together, it is a very sensual and passionate experience. Robin Kaye knows just how to write a good love scene. So hot it sizzles, but so loving and caring you can't help but fall in love with the characters, falling in love with each other. These two were definitely made for each other and really complemented each other. A very well developed story, even though it was a bit short on the time frame.

What I didn't like:

For the most part I really enjoyed this romance. The charm of this wonderful family and how they all loved and cared for each other was amazing. I loved Slater with all of his issues and Rocki with her mysterious past. But I felt like the romance between them was a bit rushed. Slater only has a month to spend at the Crow's Nest and they sparks start flying almost on the first page. Give it little time to grow on the reader, I always say. It's not a horrible thing and doesn't ruin the book, but it does make a difference.

Bottom Line:

Great final book to the series. It wrapped up a lot of questions, gave readers a satisfying place to leave the family. Slater gets his happy-ever-after and the gang from the Crow's Nest is settled and deeply loved by all. There was a hiccup or two but that not unexpected. Pick this one up. It's a good one!

Had to be You, Bad Boys of Red Hook #3, by Robin Kaye
Grade: C+

“Nothing gets to me. Except you. It had to be you.”

Slater Shaw ran away from Red Hook as fast as he could and into the navy but when his foster father has a heart attack he heads home to help run the family restaurant. Slater’s goal is to help for a month and then make his way to the Middle East to finish a computer program that will make him a rich man and finally be able to show off to all of those that treated him like garbage all his life. Slater never expected to find a woman like Rocki O’Sullivan in Red Hook especially working as the lead singer of a restaurant house band. Rocki intrigues Slater and her secrets make him want to find out what she’s hiding and why she seems to make him feel things he never felt before.

Rocki O’Sullivan loves her life in Red Hook Brooklyn and its a far cry from her privileged upbringing. Rocki suffered major tragedy as a child and has kept men at arms length every since but one look at Slater Shaw and all of her walls crumble. The more these two are together the more they shatter all of their barriers and soon neither is able to be without the other. As secrets are revealed from their pasts they must fight to stay together or lose they love they have finally found.

I really have grown to enjoy the bad Boys of Red Hook series and was very excited for Shaw and Rocki’s story. Rocki is an awesome character and I love that she beats to her own drum but I was surprised to learn all about her past and her childhood. I liked Shaw right off the bat and I found that he and Rocki seemed to have some of the best chemistry of any characters I’ve ever read about. These two heated up the pages right from the beginning and I just couldn’t stop reading well into the night.

I loved the first half of this book but I found the second half too low for me and it seemed to have lost the magic the first half had. I felt like I couldn’t stop reading and was so engrossed in theses two characters and then I found my mind wandering and not caring as much. I got annoyed with Slater and Rocki in the second half and I think this is why I wasn’t as into things as I was before. I still enjoyed the book and the way it ended but I wasn’t as involved as I was at the beginning. I was very disappointed since things started off so well.

All in all I did like this book but it was missing something. We get to catch up with all of the old characters in Red Hook and it’s so fun to see how things have turned out for everyone. I still really enjoy this series and am hoping that Jackson sticks around and will get his book next. I really hope this happens because I think watching Jackson fall hard for a woman would be so fun. Okay book but still a really fun series.

Another new to me author, Robin Kaye definitely has a talent for giving her characters a traumatic past.

Slater is the type of character that grabs your attention from the beginning. At first I wasn't too sure if I liked him, he was a little standoffish and difficult to get to know. It wasn't until he met the heroine, Rocki, that I started to warm up to him. He started to show his true self, he was actually a caring, sweet and sometimes nerdy guy who just happened to be wrapped up in a bad boy package. Irresistible really.

Rocki is an outgoing and charismatic character. She draws people to her with her sweet and flirty personality and of course Slater is no exception. Rocki, for all her looks and job is actually a pretty normal woman who cares for her family. She's a lot like Slater in that way and just like Slater, she also doesn't want any romantic entanglements.

Slater and Rocki's chemistry is undeniable and they spend so much time fighting it that the tension grows by leaps and bounds. I loved that tension that was at times sexual and at others emotional. The push and pull then denial on both parts made things more interesting. Both Slater and Rocki are so likable that I not only rooted for them as a couple but as individual characters.

The added emotional turmoil that occurs in Had to be You was unexpected. Rocki's family trouble takes her by surprise and shows her a different side of Slater that not many people have ever seen, but just when it seems their relationship is heading in a positive, new direction, Slater's past comes back to haunt him and it's a whopper of a revelation. There's such darkness in Slater's past that caught me off guard and it changes him and his relationship with Rocki to where it seemed like he wouldn't be able to come to terms with it.

There's also a surprising relationship between Slater and Nicki, a young girl that Slater's father has taken in to raise. She's surprisingly observant and seems to bring out a side of Slater that no one else can. I liked her innocent honesty and tenacity when it came to getting what she wanted.

Final Verdict: Had to be You was an enjoyable read for me. It had two interesting and somewhat complex characters who in turn have interesting and complex relationships with those around them. There was some great dialogue and humor to balance the sexiness of the relationship between Slater and Rocki as well as some heartbreaking revelations that both characters had to face and overcome.

4.5 stars!

I love a great series with good family drama, people that you have history with that love you unconditionally, with a good romance of course. This is a perfect read for me, the third in a series about a family in Brooklyn that comes together after a heath scare. This story overlaps the second book a bit but the author does a great job of melding the pieces together and you could easily read the books as standalones.

Slater Shaw came back to help his father after his heart attack, he, along with his two foster brothers are helping run the bar until Pete is back on his feet. Slater has been gone for ten years, leaving for the Navy as soon as he could and then going to school. Even though he did not want to come back to Red Hook, he is glad for the diversion as he girlfriend just dumped him because of his pedigree, or lack of.

The Crow’s Nest has gone through some major renovations since Slater was here and he likes the changes his brother’s have made, he also is interested in the singer in the band and she seems equally interested in him, at least until she finds out he is Pete’s son. But that does not stop both their friends and family from pushing them together, subtly of course.

Rocki O’Sullivan has been in Red Hook for three years, becoming like a family member with those that live and breathe The Crow’s Nest. Not many know her past as she keeps it to herself but they all love her and welcomed her with open arms. When her brother is injured in a skiing accident many are surprised to find she even had a brother yet they rally around her as she turns to the family for help. Slater drives her north and is surprised to have not only her past come to light but the ghosts of his come out, horrific memories he never remembered come forward and threaten their tentative relationship and the relationship with another special person back in Red Hook.

I absolutely adored this story, with all its family drama, angsty romance, pain and heartache. The characters were well written and I thought the story line was done well.

Had to Be You wraps up the Bad Boys of Red Hook series in a neat little package. The final brother to meet his match, Slater has come home earlier than expected to get away from the ex-girlfriend who played him for a fool. Rocki is the lead singer for the house band at the Crow’s Nest, and has plenty of secrets from those closest to her. When they meet, sparks fly, though not necessarily sparks of the good kind.

The chemistry between Slater and Rocki was almost instant, though they would try to ignore and fight it for some time. Slater immediately becomes protective of Rocki, even though she does her best to ignore him. The support Slater offers when Rocki needs it most shocks both of them, and his reasoning behind it comes as an even bigger surprise to Slater. When he starts having panic attacks and flashbacks related to his own childhood, he knows there must have been something big he has been blocking all these years.

This series as a whole was an easy one to be pulled into, and an easy one to pick up. I read parts of it out of order, reading this one before I read You’re The One (#2), which because of the Nicki storyline I wouldn’t necessarily recommend unless you’re into spoilers, but it still worked. There were only a few spoilers revealed by reading book 3 before book 2, but the holes I had by skipping #2 weren’t huge (and while I thought I was getting one spoiler in particular by reading Had To Be You early, turns out there was a clue left in You’re the One). But without having read Back to You first, there would have been a lot of missing background about the family and community as a whole.

This was a great closure to the series. All the overarching storylines get wrapped up with big ol’ bows, as well as Rocki and Slater’s own story. There are enough snippets of information that we see what Bree, Storm, Skye, Logan, and all the supporting characters are up to and how the other two couples’ relationships have continued on without the secondary plotlines getting in the way of the main couple. I enjoyed reading this book and series, and will look for more by Robin Kaye.

In Had to be You , Robin Kaye, returns readers to Red Hook to torment us with the angst-filled romance between Slayer and Rocki. The Red Hook series is built on the strong family ties with Pop, Pete Calahan, at the center. Pop’s bar, the Crow’s Nest, is a fantastic setting for this series – it a place of gathering. As with previous installments, the author has delicately balanced tragedy with infatuation and humor.
“A little fun, frolicking, and mattress tag with Slater would be great for both of you. Sounds like a temporary match made to get your mind and body back in the game. A woman shouldn’t go that long without an orgasm that’s not self-induced.” – Patrice to Rocki.
After finishing his stint in the Navy Slater’s life is in transition. He is spending the next month at home helping Pop, his adoptive father, run the bar and take care of Nicki. He has a strong urge to prove his worth, determined to overcome his impoverished childhood. Once he fulfills those obligations he is headed to Bahrain. Not looking to get involved with anyone during his short stay in Red Hook he is taken off-guard by the intensely of his feelings.

Rocki has made a home in Red Hook and dozens of friends. She keeps everyone at a distance, skillfully dodging questions that pertain to her past. She loves her nightly gig as the lead singer of the house band at the Crow’s Nest. Each night she flirts with the crowd as she works through her sets never tempted to take things further. However, that changes the moment she is introduced to the sexy Slater.

When tragedy strikes Rocki’s family Pop volunteers Slater to chauffeur her home to New Hampshire. As Rocki’s secrets are unveiled and Slater’s past unravels things become volatile. The author slowly awakens an intense passion between them – yet the relationship is developed slowly overtime naturally.

The only thing I was disappointed in with this book was the fact that I didn't start with the first book in the series. I LOVED this book, from cover to cover. I couldn't put it down and became completely engrossed in it. Well written, amazing characters and a fantastic location made this book everything it promised to be.

The characters were amazing... wait did I mention that already? I completely fell in love with them and felt like I knew them forever. Slater was perfect. A little bad and a whole lot of good, the perfect balance. Sometimes a bad boy really can be a good man. But when his past comes back to life, can he move past it to make the family he needs?

Rocki was terrific as well. I have torn feelings about her, I don't like all of the secrecy that eventually comes to light. But she completely redeemed herself by the end of the book.

Not only were the main characters great, but the supporting characters were so good, they almost overshadowed the main characters! I know, hard to believe right?

Pick up Had To Be You and the other books in the Bad Boys of Red Hook series. You won't regret it one bit!

Pete menyuruh Slater mengantar Rocky pulang.

The sex scene was steamy, tapi kayaknya ga ada bedanya sama dua buku sebelumnya.

Saya tadinya mengharapkan ada adegan yang menunjukkan geekynya Slater, mengingat dia jago komputer dan seorang hacker. Tp yang muncul hanya dia nyari tentang siapa Rocky lewat mesin pencari.

2 bintang sajalah

If you've read the other two Red Hook books and enjoyed them, you'll probably like this one as well.
It's the last brother, Slater's turn to fall in love. He's home to help with his father who is recovering from a heart attack. Or something. They covered it in the first book but I don't remember a repetition in this book. Anyway, Slater's back and it's insta-lust when he sees singer Rocki, the woman who fronts the band that plays at his father's bar. She also falls into insta-lust.
They're both known for having short affairs where no one falls in love so it seems like they're perfect for each other

Also, "Are you clean and on the pill?" while in the middle of sex? Yeah... not romantic. Just bad sex practices.

Well, it's about damn time Nicki found a her Daddy. We watched her being bounced around with Storm and Logan, but it was heart breaking when Slater told her it was him. I love Robin Kaye, she writes so realistically, you don't feel as if you're reading a book but reading about a life experience. It has the right amount of heart warming and humor. I loved watching Slater get over his fear. Rocki and him were great together. I'm bummed cuz this is the last book and I really wanted to see the weddings and the babies they will have *tear* Great way to end a fantastic series.

Another great one in the Red Hook series! Slater is back home but for how long is anyone's guess. Rocki knows getting involved with Slater could lead to heartache but since she refuses to let her heart get involved she should be safe. These two are perfect for each other but secrets and their pasts may keep them apart.

I loved all the books in this series but I think this might be my favorite. I definitely recommend it.

60% di awal boring banget, cuman berpanjang2 ttg Rocky yg ternyata punya kakak yg tiba2 kecelakaan & koma, Rocky yg ternyata tajir abis jg sangat berbakat tp selama 3 thn cuman manggung di cafe kecil dgn salary yg biasa pula. Slater & Rocky yg saling tertarik ttp tarik ulur krn Slater minder dgn kekayaan Rocky jg Rocky yg ga mau berhubungan serius krn Slater cuman tinggal sementara di kota itu ...ditambah trauma Rocky & Slater akibat kematian ortu masing2 yg tragis....fiuhhh cape bacanya

I wasn't a huge fan of Rocki but this book sold me. She was a fantastic heroine, and I absolutely loved Slater (I'm still swooning over this superhero!). This was scorching hot, funny, romantic, and a total tearjerker. I think I had sad and happy tears all throughout the last 50 pages. I am so excited to get Jackson's story in Home To You. This was definitely my favourite book in the Bad Boys of Red Hook series.

The point of view switched a lot in this story but I still love the story with these too and Niki is just so darn adorable =] she has helped tie this series together and the Bad Boys of Red Hook, each fall for the little girl as well as the Boys future loves of their lives and Slater didn't escape Niki's adorable ness or Rocki's love.

I love all Robin's books, but Had To Be You is my favorite. I love how Slater and Rocki's relationship kind of fell into itself. Rocki's reaction and support of Slater when he told her about the possibility of being a dad was awesome. I highly recommend this book and if you haven't read Robin's other books, I think you should check them out.

Of the three I have read in the series I liked this one the most. Slater and Rocki had an instant connection. Both of them were damaged due to things that happened to them while growing up. Both of them were hiding from their lives. At times it was funny, other times sad and emotional. A good read from start to finish!

This story started out promising but the action moved kind of slow. Then the heroine started constantly thinking about how to hide her past while the hero thought about sex. I started skimming all but dialogue, about 80% of the book, until it pickup and had a pretty good ending. Slater is in town for a month before going to Bahrain and is attracted by Rocki, a singer at his dad's bar.
