Boston Love #3

One Good Reason

Rate this book
Zoe Bloom has her life figured out.
After a childhood spent begging for scraps on Boston street corners, she’s clawed her way to a successful career and a safe place to call home. She knows exactly what she needs to survive — a bit of money in the bank, a roof over her head, food on the table. Friends and family are a luxury she can’t afford. And forget about frivolous romantic entanglements. She can barely juggle her own problems; she certainly doesn’t have time to handle anyone else’s crap…

Parker West has spent his life running.
From responsibility. From obligation. From the corporate CEO position he’s always been expected to take over. He’d rather climb Kilimanjaro than sit in a board meeting with stiffs in suits. When a crisis at the family company forces him to return to Boston, he has no choice but to stop chasing adventures — temporarily. As soon as things are back in order, he fully intends to sail off into the sunset…
Until he locks eyes with a mysterious blonde who screams trouble and sets his senses on fire. For the first time in his life, Parker doesn’t want to run. In fact, when it comes to Zoe… he may want to do something he’s never done before.
Stay.

ONE GOOD REASON is a full-length contemporary romance about a girl who’s spent her life just trying to survive… and the man who finally teaches her how to live. Due to some sexy scenes, suspenseful moments, and a foul-mouthed heroine, it is recommended for readers ages 17 and up.

“I've never had a good reason to stay.
But you-you're my reason darling.”

I swooned over Chase.
I lusted over Nate.
But I pledged my loyalty and eternal devotion to Peter Pan (for the first time in my life because well, I've always been a Captain Hook girl.

You can see why.)
“For the record... you'll always be Tinkerbell to me. And Parker...well, he's the perpetual man-child. The boy who never grew up. He's Peter Pan.”

Tinkerbell, also known to the world as Zoe Bloom, is a hacker,a sarcastic,foul-mouthed control freak who's spent her entire life doing three things;trying to find out what happened the fateful night her parents were murdered, using her computer skills to help those in need, and avoiding getting close with people.Until one mission goes wrong and her knight in shiny armor arrives in the form of the notorious playboy billionaire everyone's been talking about,Parker West (aka Peter Pan).Playful, sexy and persistent Parker will do anything to melt the ice that has covered Zoe's heart and no one,not even criminals and brutes and kidnappers, can stop him.Because he has found a reason to stay.
“I'm careful.Cautious.Methodical.
He's bold.Brash.Free.
It's anathema.
It's addicting.”

One Good Reason is hilarious.
Sweet.
Sexy.
Emotional.
Beautiful.

It's a story that demands your attention from the first line to the last.Addicting like a drug. It's the result of Julie Johnson's trademarks;sassiness, suspense, steam,a heroine you want to hug and have drinks with and a hero that steals your breath and makes it impossible for any man to live up to his perfection.Parker's character was really refreshing,he wasn't a mysterious, brooding, gruffy asshole, nor a damaged man seeking redemption.Despite his losses and his sacrifices he was light-hearted,adventurous,charming and adorable, caring and understanding, always making jokes and never giving up,a child that never grew up with a heart made of gold and a body made for sin,a delicious,dirty-mouthed sex god that made you throw your panties from the window.
(sorry random bystander!)
“Do I look like the kind of guy who keeps a garden of delicate orchids?”
No.No,he does not.He looks like the kind of guy who'd only ever see a flower if he decided to fuck you senseless in a field of wild daisies, just because he felt like it.

And then there's Zoe.Julie Johnson is one of the few writers whose female characters are always likable. While I didn't agree with Zoe's decisions in the beginning, when she tried to stay away from Parker, she was a true heroine.Coming to trust someone who could hurt her, accepting that she is a good person that deserves to be loved took great effort, but she was born a fighter. She learned the hard way that only she can take care of herself, but then Parker came and showed her how to truly live, that it's okay to let people in.She was misanthropic, snarky and bitchy, and her POV was pure entertainment! Her constant banters with Parker had me laughing out loud, their intimate scenes had me flushed and in the end there was a satified grin plastered on my face that made my parents question my mental state (one would think that they'd come to terms with my lack of sanity).
“Until he taught me to fly,I didn't realize how deep beneath the earth I'd buried my hopes and dreams.”

(Oh man,I've highlighted so many quotes it's impossible to use them all in one review!)
There was a teeny tiny voice in my head, whispering that things between Parker and Zoe are moving really fast, but I shut it down by putting Dropkick Murphys on the speakers (nice touch Julie, nice touch!) and by realizing something with that skeptical yet hopelessly romantic fracked up brain of mine;there are bonds that need time to be forged, weeks, months, even years, and there are bonds that need only a few minutes or a few hours to leave their mark on your soul.I've come to believe that some things in life are meant to be.Some people are meant to hurt you and break you, some others are meant to make you whole again and fill all your missing pieces. And then there are those who give you hope that the latest category will appear.Julie Johnson is that person for me.My pillow was wet with tears of joy,my heart so warm and ready to explode, and I was overwhelmed with hope. And love. With you Julie, because of you,I have wings. And I would follow you anywhere.

(Can this anywhere be Connor's book?He needs his happily ever after!)

Title: One Good Reason
Series: Boston Love #3
Author: Julie Johnson
Release date: May 30, 2016
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

A lot of people think that the hero is the most important character in a romance book. I would have to disagree with that. For me, the heroine is equally as important in making or breaking a story and in this case, she absolutely sold this one right from the start. Zoe was a heroine who endeared herself to me with her tough as steel attitude and unique computer hacking skills. She was this vigilante chick that was impossibly brave that deep down was soft at heart. I was all over this girl, swooning with a major heroine crush.

Zoe and Parker meet at a business party where she's in disguise as one of the wait staff. Her plans to slip away and obtain vital information from the company computer system do not go as planned. She's one breath away from being taken away by security when playboy and new CEO Parker steps in to save the woman whom he couldn't take his eyes off of all evening. This tiny little blonde firecracker accepts his help, but after a short steamy encounter she storms away hoping to never see him again. He isn't about to let her slip through his fingers though and makes sure that she'll be forced to seek him out very soon.

Parker was the sweetest and very dedicated to softening up Zoe's tough outer shell and making her see the pleasures and joys in life that she deprived herself of. She's been on her own for a long time and only allows her fighter friend Killian in her inner circle. All of her gruff resistance is no match for his determination and teasing maneuvers. He is bound and determined to win over his little "Tinkerbell". He's known by this group of friends as the playboy who likes to go off on adventures and refuses to avoid adult responsibility. Which makes him the equivalent of her Peter Pan to his Tink. What could be more fated, right?

I'm totally safe with him. I'm home. And for me, a girl who never had a home...that means everything.

Probably my favorite side character was her MMA friend Luca (hot, protective, and totally alpha) and I'm pretty sold on checking out what his book has to offer. There was some foreshadowing who he was going to be paired with in the group of characters and I think it's going to be fun to read about. My least favorite was most definitely Parker's sister Phoebe. I'm not gonna lie, I'm feeling relieved that her book flew past my radar. I think I would have wanted to claw my own eyes out after two pages. Her bubbly and airhead like personality grates on my nerves in no time. She's just the opposite kind of female character I like to read.

I loved the flirtatious teasing between the two of them, and the fast paced storyline made this book a really enjoyable read. The dialogue could straddle the line between cheesy and fun here and there, but overall I can't complain too much. If you're looking for something light with a strong kickass heroine, look no further. And you don't have to read the previous books first to know what's going on, so no worries in that area. Now excuse me while I go look for Luca's book to add to my eternally growing TBR.

R A T I N G 4 stars to One Good Reason! ★ ★ ★ ★

His is a changeable, mercurial existence — flying on wind currents, skimming over waves. He, down to a molecular level, challenges everything about the person I’ve worked to become and the values I’ve tried to instill. I’m careful. Cautious. Methodical. He’s bold. Brash. Free. It’s anathema. It’s addicting.’

“There’s this thrill I get, when I go on an adventure. Climb a peak, explore a city, set down wheels on a dirt runway in a place I’ve never been before. I’ve spent my whole life chasing that feeling.” He pauses. “You’re the first per person I’ve ever met who makes me feel that rush while I’m standing still….”

A book that bustles with attitude, personality and a legion of wit. One Good Reason easily, easily makes it into my chart-topper reads for 2021.

life-hardened Zoe Bloom, known to the rest of the world as ‘Clover’ the nimble-fingered phantom of the dark web, is a cloaked connoisseur of code, a self-appointed vigilante who cleanses the rotten sinners from Boston’s dubious scenery one reprobate at a time. She’s an indivisible part of the city that made her, stole from her, hurt her, etched into her, chiselled any delicacy away and pushed her to the periphery of an outsider’s life.

That time of year has arrived like clockwork. A cheerful time of festivity, jingle bells and holly wreaths is the anniversary of a recurring massacre. On a frosted night of celebration and fear, her life lost all light. It was the beginning of the end, the dawn of her undoing. A day that was an ending to her happy years as much as it became the death of many beginnings; a day she never quite recovered from. Zoe Bloom may be a programming genius, but behind the unhesitating bite, swift keystrokes and acts of questionable legality is a woman whose veins are pooling with pain.

A misfit, a solitaire, an unadventurous loner who feels more than she cares to admit and hurts more than she tends to confess. For so many years, it was just her and best friend, underground fighting champ, Luca ‘Blaze’ Buchanan, against the world. But this cautious and self-denying woman of ice is about to find out what it’s like to let go, withdraw from the safe zone of loneliness, recede those ward-off hackles and make with the heady heat of a man made just for her.

Enter money man, Parker West, recent inheritor and CEO of West Tech. The absolute opposite to snarky, cynical Zoe, he’s an uncontrolled chatterbox with an untroubled, mirthful voice to match. Free and easy, he wanders like the world is his oyster because for persistent Parker, life is made to bend In his favour. So how does he tell Zoe that hostility really is fruitless when he’s not letting go?

Zoe doesn’t get distracted by fat pockets, worship-worthy good looks or words made to strip down even the strongest woman, and while Parker’s fast-tracking levity is as pesky as the man who never settles down and sails lands like a modern day pirate with all the loot he’ll ever need, she’s just landed herself in a porthole of trouble…because how can a privileged pretty boy shake the unshakeable Zoe Bloom?

Third-in-series, One Good Reason is one of those top-shelf reads that irresistibly bundles the best of a moreish romantic comedy. A macho man collective, an atmospheric set of side characters, an alpha best friend, a devil-may-care heartthrob that’ll claim your love, laughter and devotion, a combative heroine who typifies a wolf at a tea party, a carnival of unrestrained wit, attitude and a charisma that made me sit up and take notice. This book has such an infectious energy that to not feel its touch would be like bypassing the sun’s rays in the thick of summer. This book didn’t have to make a play for me because It already had me for keeps from the baseline.

I had prescribed myself the therapy of light reading after shaking off the intensity of my last romance read. With this book, the smiles were unreserved, the snickers were forthcoming, the engagement was unfailing, the love was unfettered but the storytelling was an inspiriting style of charm offensive that delighted like a well-spoken bad boy with depth.

The writing is a feel-good mix of energy, zest and suspense with a meaningful subtext that excellently pulls Zoe’s story to the surface. It just has an identity that sits in relief and lends itself to a story I can only call feast-worthy. I felt pinpricks of guilt that I hadn’t read a word from Julie Johnson pre-2021. I’m glad I amended that unsightly misdemeanour.

My favourite feature of a romance is bearing witness to the compatibility of two people, how they ride from two separate singletons to a two-team package. The thrill of anticipating how they’ll then piece themselves into each others’ lives is so rewarding. Knowing that though they’ll get a promised future with blinds open and blinders abandoned, they can take any course to get there. Zoe and Parker cast a great pairing: an uninhibited Boston heartthrob and and Boston native with a life sentence lived behind a screen.

The best of us can fall for with a tempting hero, but how many times can you say you’ve reveled in those girl crushes in between your book boyfriend cravings? Because I’d take hard-boiled Zoe with a slice of toast on any given morning. My sway toward one protagonist is sometimes greater than the other, but Zoe is the woman who heralds the swoon factor. Don’t take notice of her hero misclaims because she might act the antisocial bad girl, but she’s still a girl that believes in a better life. Prickly, pained and peevish, she won me without effort ever before she cared for adventure.

And Parker? His charm is enough to laugh you into his fantasy and the emotional intimacy is enough to cement his substance in this story and in Zoe’s remote life. He provided a big dose of this book’s witty temper, a blitheness that glows enough to cut through the taught tension of Zoe’s defense. He’s the lightheartedness to Zoe’s drowning heart…good thing he’s a Sailor. Their verbal offense/defense elevates the comedy factor - Zoe’s curmudgeony, on-guard resistance and Parker’s off-guard destabilisng raillery perfectly foreplays their romance as much as it enlivens the ambience of this book.

Aside from the brought-to-life personality of this book, it’s Zoe the obstinate, dreary firecracker that stole the show. I really cared for her. Her characterisation and development pulled me in single-focus. As did her lack of hope, resignation and ability to later ‘leap before she looked’. Zoe’s foreground arc and backdrop pain loans this opposites attract rom com a sizeable heart. One of my favourite tropes is the ‘loner wolf finding a family’ - there’s something about finding your people in what feels like a lonely world that moves like the warming of stiff joints. Unification, partnership and togetherness gives rise to human need and acceptance. One Good Reason is a great interpretation of that.

Forced to move to Boston, incautious Parker awaits the day he can sail off into the land of never, to live a moment on a one man whim. He didn’t expect to catch the scent of the best adventure yet, ready to drop anchor and dock his boat on the shores of a misanthropic island. Parker ruptures a loner’s denial of intimacy arguably better than Zoe can expertly breach any wall of code.

Being alone stops being the safety it was and all walls can be weathered down by persuasion and an undivided acceptance that life is not a series of dead ends. To have a taste of a life unguarded is a chance to change the habit of a lifetime for a woman who believes she’s too unalike, too irredeemable to make peace with a different life. My bookish blues became a thing of the past when I started One Good Reason. While this book contains a storm of contagious laughter, even though the mirth catches like a wave, you’ll care for the message relayed.

Zoe and Parker are the pipe dream that sailed through the high seas of my heart. This opposites attract romance ticks all the boxes and signs its name with a flourish. I was roped into a tempest of fun, fear, family, suspense and insight through Zoe’s leery lens with One Good Reason , but I could wholeheartedly supply more than just one good reason for readers to have this on their to-reads list. I can give you a ransom’s worth.

Needed or not, this book has my fresh and firm mark of approval. With fantastic writing and personalised characters, I have no qualms in my mind why the Boston Love Story series has earned bestseller status. Julie Johnson brilliantly voices a great sense of humour, a rise for adventure, a fall for unease, romance and rapport while suspense, conspiracy and a bit of espionage line a story fit to harbour your affection and dock your devotion. I’d never kick myself for arriving it late to a soiree, but seeing as I am fashionably late to this series, I really hope this review speaks for itself. A must-read for every romance reader.

C O N T E N T _ W A R N I N G: Mentions a past attempted rape, implications of sexual assault and child abuse. Mentions depression and sexual harassment. Sex scenes aren’t explicit (some are are fade-to-black). Mentions drugs/drug addiction and you’ll find lots of profanity between the pages.

Some Thoughts:

1) It didn’t bother my reading, but I noticed quite a few grammar errors throughout.
2) I’m confused about the whole Parker being a temporary CEO thing. He seems to spend so much time away from being CEO that it really doesn’t seem like he’s doing a job. Granted, he could possibly be taking a Christmas break but he seems to spend so much time dedicated to other things.
3) Really loved the supporting characters! loved their posse but Luca is definitely my favourite.
4) The instant love did feel too 'instant love'. Everything sort of climaxed within a day.
5) Also, I can't say I appreciated the way the hero behaved in the initial public bathroom scene. It felt very entitled to take what he wanted without respecting what Zoey would have wanted.

**kinda spoiler'y rant incoming**
Sorry not sorry 🤗

Seriously guys?!
3 books in and there's been F O U R kidnappings...what the actual fuck kind of world are they living in?!

Talk about #richpeopleproblems altho the FMC here is not rich and gets kid- can we say kidnapped when these are all technically adults...probably not I guess I should be saying abducted maybe 🤔
Whatever, semantics, at the end of the day it has happened way too often for a series of books that are each around 400pages...find another plot point PUHLEASE!

Also, please extend your timelines - I cannot root for people who have just met to be "in love" after 3-5 interactions/1 week 🙄

No matter how fun they may be, I know imma cynical wossface - but have these peeps no sense of self-preservation? Dude is acting CEO to a billion-dollar company and knows she's a hacker...y'all literally just met under sketchy circumstances no less.
Buck tf up man! 😤

Also, lady...don't blindly trust people and go off to sea with them when you can't swim! You know nothing about them?! 2016 was certainly diff time in the publishing world...and don't even get me started on the "taking what I want" comment 🤢
I'll begrudgingly give P, that he was considerably less macho-man toxic than the previous Hs in this series...but hard pass // NOPE on that attitude tbh 😵‍💫

It's unfortunate as I enjoyed Tink's intro in the previous book, she was spicy + the glimpses we got of Parker were also fun and the grounding sides they bring out in one another brought some needed depth...but I could not buy these two together over the short period of time this book takes place in - just no! I'm sorry it's really a pity this wasn't spread out over a longer timeframe - a month or two would be more believable than the what...2 weeks this takes place over? 🤷‍♀️🙈

2 books left in this series, yet the character that's caught my eye is not on the MC list...prob not such a bad thing when these will not be cracking the top 20 of my fav romcom reads this year. But darn if I'm not mildly curious to see the BFFs next and then the sarcastic healthnut + dry FBI guy in the final book - pray for me 🙏🏼😉
Altho I do seem to masochistically undertake at least one rage read (ooooh new shelf idea?!) series a year - looks like this is 2022's version 🤭

Not impressed.

Julie Johnson loves writing about two things I absolutely dislike in contemporary romance books:

1. insta-love - just like Gemma and Chase in book 1, Zoe and Parker also ended up making out within the first few minutes of meeting each other. Don't get me wrong, some insta-love from time to time isn't bad. But it gets old really fast. What's wrong with people meeting, chatting, getting to know each other, becoming friends and THEN trying to rip each other's clothes off? This insta-lust (because I can't really call it insta-love) thing gets boring after a while.

2. arrogant, controlling alpha males - first, there was Chase, then Nate, now Parker. And after reading a quarter of this book, I'm confident enough to say that Parker is the worst of them all. The previous ones at least had a good reason for their assholeness. Chase was trying to protect Gemma from his psychopath cousin and Nate was trying to protect Phoebe from the same psychopath. But Parker was being an ass just for fun.

The beginning of this book perfectly sums up my issue with current romance literature:
Example A : an older, ugly man hits on a young woman. He is seen as disgusting, creepy stalker.
Example B : a young, hot, rich guy hits on that same woman a minute later. He corners her and shamelessly flirts with her. Then, he kisses her even though she in no way said she wanted that and she gave him no hints or signals that she is attracted to him whatsoever. But this time, it's seen as hot.

And I'm just getting sick and tired of this stereotype. Now don't get me wrong, I'm the sucker for hot rich guys just like the next girl. But the physical attractiveness of a man should not allow him to be an asshole who crosses the boundaries. There are so many things in romance books that seem "hot" just because it's an attractive man doing it, but if it was unattractive man, those things would seem creepy, bordering on restraint order worthy.

Note: There wasn't anything terribly wrong with this book, it's just me who is getting tired of this same old thing over and over again.

Everyone who picks up a Julie Johnson book has to prepare themselves for the following symptoms: insomnia, heart palpitations, facial pain caused by too many grinning, nail biting, book addiction caused long hours without food or water. :D

It’s not a big secret, that Julie Johnson is one of my favorite authors. All of her books has a uniqueness that makes all of them recognizable and memorable. Her amazing sense of humor, inimitable characters and real life references are always matched with a thrilling plot line and Julie hands over all of it with an amazing and many times beautiful writing style.

I think a reader almost always can tell if the writer truly loves their book and if she/he enjoyed writing it. With this book I absolutely felt that Julie loved her characters, that she loved writing this story, that she enjoyed herself. I felt it so many times. :))
I was waiting to read the story of Tinkerbell (aka Zoe) and Parker since I finished Cross the Line. I knew that their story probably will be the funniest of the series, because both of the characters are hilarious by themselves, too.

The main character is Zoe, who is a full-time hacker. :D She is typically the person, who doesn’t want anyone’s help, who keeps everyone at arm’s length with her sassy attitude, and who loves to be the secret superhero for others as an alone wolf. But what happens, when a handsome, always smiling, man-child womanizer is not bothered by the cold and sarcastic façade? If she can’t get rid of this adorable guy who probably is suffering from the 'Peter Pan Syndrome'? Then Tinkerbell has to learn to trust in Peter Pan and has to learn to fly. :))

I loved the characters so-so much!! I loved that although this book is in Romantic Comedy genre, but the characters were still complex. With the heart-breaking past of Zoe, with her sassy character and sense of humor, and with her endless selflessness towards strangers, the writer could create a really memorable, multi-layered character.
Parker is the guy who already traveled across the world, who can’t stay in one place for a long time, the irresponsible boy, who now has to take a huge responsibility because he needs to take over his father’s company. And maybe the only thing he needs is someone who takes his hands and helps to the “lost boy” find his way.

The banters between Zoe and Parker were hilarious and I laughed so much! I highlighted so many quotes in this book! And I couldn’t even imagine that someday there will be a guy who can steal the first spot from Finn Chambers on my JJ Book Boyfriends list, but Parker West did it, and I totally fell in love with him. ♥ I loved that he was finally not an alpha male, but a truly adorable and funny guy. :)

My favorite was the lighthouse, and I truly loved that we could take a glimpse of the life of the characters of the other books of the series. And when the FBI guy Conor showed up again? I burst out laughing, because he is the guy who never can be missed out from a JJ book. :)

I don’t know how Julie can do this, but every book of hers glued me to my Kindle. I just sit down, and forget about everything else. Her writing style is truly captivating. This book was also engaging, and so-so funny, and the typical Julie Johnson kind of thrilling plot also couldn’t disappoint me, what my persistently gowned nails minded. Thank Julie, now I can start to grow them over again. :D

I highly recommend this book for everyone, and like Cross the Line landed on my favorite shelf of 2015, One Good Reason became a favorite of 2016. ♥

My favorite quotes from the book:

"And when you share that light with me, it makes me feel like… maybe I don’t have to live in the shadows anymore."

“You are my favorite kind of adventure,”

“You don’t fall in love with a bird and stick her in a cage. You let her fly free and hope like hell she comes back to you.”
“You know what?” I ask, kissing him back.
“What?” he murmurs.
“Tinkerbell and Peter Pan both knew how to fly.”

"Sometimes I guess two people really do complete each other — the jagged, broken pieces of their souls aligning perfectly, to create an undamaged whole."

"Luca and I both gravitate toward darkness. Distrust. Destruction.
And, the truth is, you can’t drive out shadows in a windowless room. At some point, you have to let the light in. Find someone who glows bright enough to lessen the burden of your misfortunes."

"Life’s too damn short to waste it with people who don’t make you happy, in places that don’t excite you, doing things that don’t challenge you.” He looks at me — really looks — and I get the oddest sense that he actually sees me."

5 "Let me show you what fun looks like." Stars

Another fantastic Boston Love story from Julie Johnson. One word you'll find in my Julie Johnson book reviews is definitely "effortless". It helps describe every aspect of her story telling from the writing, the dialogue, the characters, the structure, the flow. Johnson makes it incredibly easy to fall in love with her stories. Every. Single. Time. When a new Julie Johnson book becomes available I read it in no more than two sittings because of how comfortably fun I feel while experiencing something new from this author. This book is no exception as Johnson gives us an icy heroine who's met her match in a fiery hero; an interesting match up in these two new characters that make reading their story just good, old fashioned fun.

Sheathed in good humor, sass, and romance, One Good Reason exemplifies all the qualities I love about this author's story telling. The main characters and connecting again with characters from the previous two books makes One Good Reason a comedic, contemporary, stand alone romance based in Boston when a sassy, confrontational Zoe starts falling, against her inner will, for the charming, manchild Parker. Told strictly from Zoe's first person point of view, we journey into a new realm of Johnson's writing. Her hero here isn't your typical uber-alpha but rather a more subdued, light, charming alpha with a woman who's cold, guarded personality is anything but beta. He wants her to loosen up and she's just not sure how to do that the navigation of that dynamic between them together makes for a great love story.

Thus why Julie Johnson couples are always perfectly suited. She knows who they are separately and knows equally what kind of mate they need to make them whole. She allows for a visceral reaction from her readers when sparks fly between her characters. You can feel the energy of their connection and how much fun each of them are having with the other even when one doth protest too much. Added bonus: her characters always lead readers on an adventure. What I enjoyed most about Parker West and Zoe Bloom was definitely their banter. Comedic wit slung at each other through well-crafted dialogue makes reading romance so much fun. Johnson really excels at providing this kind of commentary from her characters. Her writing doesn't dwell and is constantly fluid moving the story forward in a very natural way. Using clever pop culture references and sarcastic tones she makes Parker and Zoe beyond compatible their passion becomes a visceral feeling.

They way in which this hero and heroine are written and how their relationship blossoms really worked for me in a way that left me smiling throughout and after when reading over highlights and favorite passages. I have so much highlighted in my Kindle that I wish I could share to properly give examples of what I'm taking about. Simply, One Good Reason is a book that just makes you happy. It makes you feel light and good. It's a perfect illustration of falling in love in a very unexpected, fast, adventurous, funny way.

If you're a fan of comedic contemporary romance books there's no doubt you should read the Boston Love Series by Julie Johnson. Her high-caliber writing, addictive wit, and lovable characters will leave you reeling for more and more stories from Boston. One Good Reason gave me additional secondary characters for whom I'm crossing my fingers get their own stories in the future.

*Readers Note: While each book of the Boston Love series definitely can be read as stand alone stories it's my opinion you should read them all. You don't want to miss out on the beginnings of recurring characters in the series because each story is highly entertaining and worth the read.

My 5 star reviews for the previous two books in the series:

“You are my favourite kind of adventure”.

4 stars

Fun and flirty with epic banter and a gorgeous romance with lots of heart, I really enjoyed this one! It’s the third book in Julie Johnson’s Boston Love series, and could be read as a standalone (though definitely more enjoyable if you’ve read the earlier books), and is the story of Parker and Zoe.

Zoe appeared at the end of the last book . She’s an absolute firecracker, and feisty as hell, having hardened herself to survive a tragic and lonely childhood to become a brilliant hacker. With the exception of her best friend and big brother figure, Luka, she lives a solitary and guarded existence, using her skills to infiltrate and bring down bad guys, while searching for the answers to a heartbreaking mystery from her past.

Parker West is everything Zoe isn’t. A charming, carefree, egotistical playboy, Parker has returned home to Boston from a life of travelling and chasing his next adventure to reluctantly take up the reigns of the family’s multi-billion-dollar corporation. He is in town long enough to get things straight and spend some time with his sister, Phoebe, before taking off again to the great unknown.

And then Parker meets Zoe.

“Trouble, aren’t you?”…
“No,” I lie, heart still hammering.
His grin widens. He knows I’m full of shit.
“Too bad.” His eyes flicker to my mouth. “I’m rather fond of trouble.”

From the very beginning, the chemistry between these two is fantastic! Both are taken aback by the strength of their attraction and while Zoe does her best to dismiss him (as is her norm), Parker turns on the charm, and the flirting and banter that ensues is sensational!

“Jesus Christ.” I look up to the heavens, seeking divine intervention. “This is torture.”
“This? No. This is a conversation between…friends.”
“We aren’t friends.”
“You’re right.” He shakes his head. “We’re so much more, snookums. Our connection…it’s deeper than words.”
“I loathe you.”
“You love me.”

It’s a fantastic dynamic, with wisecracks and witty comebacks flying thick and fast. And the fun-loving jokester starts to creep under Zoe’s skin as he encourages her to start enjoying her life, and opens her eyes up to everything she’s been missing.

I’m careful. Cautious. Methodical.
He’s bold. Brash. Free.
It’s anathema.
It’s addicting.

And, of course, each and every encounter is dripping with sexual tension as Zoe and Parker’s attraction sizzles.

His gaze flashes up to lock on mine. I see his intent a split second before it turns to action.
“Don’t,” I whisper.
He takes a step toward me anyway.
“We shouldn’t,” I say, not moving.
He prowls closer.
“No good can come of this,” I point out.
His hands hit my shoulders and he hauls me into his chest.
“This is a bad idea,” I breathe against his lips.
“This is a fucking great idea,” he mutters.
And then I can’t say anything else, can’t even think of anything else, because his mouth is on mine.

*fans self*

Parker is SO freaking hot! Yes, he’s a jokester, but he’s serious when he wants to be, and his alpha-ness is on full display when he decides that Zoe will be his, and he takes what he wants.

“You’re mine, now.” His mouth crushes mine in a carnal, brutal kiss. “This is where it starts. You and me … You hear me? No more running.”

Of course she is powerless to resist, and the sexy time is intense and passionate with lots of dirty talk. But more than just sex, it’s them acknowledging their connection as Zoe finally lets somebody get close to her. And Parker is there for her as she finally starts to open up about her past, and deal with her demons, and he is absolutely amazing!

“You should know, whenever that happens – you falling apart – whether it’s right now or tomorrow or next week or next year…ii you’ll let me, I’ll be here to pick up the pieces.”

“You can’t find your feet? I’ll be there to pull you up. You can’t walk? I’ll fucking carry you.”

I love these two together! They're so much fun, but their relationship is also incredibly intense and full of emotion as they open themselves up to a relationship for the first time in their lives, embrace everything that is happening between them and revel in the wonder of falling in love.

“There’s this thrill I get, when I go on an adventure. Climb a peak, explore a city, set down wheels on a dirt runway in a place I’ve never been before. I’ve spent my whole life chasing that feeling.” He pauses. “You’re the first person I’ve ever met who makes me feel that rush while I’m standing still.”
… “You are my favourite kind of adventure”.

Their blossoming relationship is made all the more intense by Zoe’s investigation of a corrupt CEO and his mistreatment of his employees. The work is nothing new for her, but this time her investigations uncover far-reaching consequences which lead her into a whole lot of danger. It’s an interesting plotline, providing a nice amount of excitement to the story and making everything happening between Zoe and Parker more intense. But it also provides ample opportunity for Knox Security to get involved, which leads to lots of alpha time with Nate, Parker and newcomer Luka.

And of course the rest of the cast are all a part of the story as Zoe is enfolded into Parker’s world with Pheobe, Gemma and their posse. I really liked catching up with the characters from the previous books and love that their stories are continuing to progress. There appears to be a set up there for another book, and I’m hoping that Julie Johnson continues on with the series – I’d love a book for Luka!

I really enjoyed this book. It's a great mix of fun and flirty, sexy and emotional, with characters that you will instantly love!

I loved it – 4 stars.

Hackers are quite the enigma sometimes, they can be vigilante sorts, money seekers, troublemakers. Great minds and technology know how. I like the increase of them as main heroes to see their mindsets. I've adored this series of Julie's, set in Boston that standouts to me character and story wise.

Zoe loves her hometown she embodies Boston Strong, she prides herself where she came from. Growing up she experienced a huge loss and hurt, a mystery that hasn't been solved still. This made her closed off and guarded. One reason she hacks is to find answers only to reach a dead end. Soft spot for the less fortunate in part to her friend Luca the vigilante.

Parker and Zoe crossed paths in the previous books and now while her undercover mission was semi foiled. Parker can be infuriating, charming, laid back, smooth, jokester and spontaneous. He may look good but he's also smarter than he lets on. Totally different CEO mindset which is nice and hard not like.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell is a perfect team name and depicts them well. I find their banter/bickering amusing even if Zoe isn't too happy with his magnetism. The attraction is there in spades. Only Zoe isn't as open and Parker needs to get past her walls and good thing he knows when to push ;)

I'm easy to amuse I'd like to think and laugh at simple humor. Puns are always fun and Parker is a pun master in his own words. This series has always been entertaining and a great rom com. The characters are so different but the work with the unconventional story and Boston setting. I adored them and their differe t personalities. Julie Johnson made the third book very much full of enjoyable, touch of mystery, humor and lighthearted moments. I'm still hoping Lila will get a book in the future.

Somehow I liked the heroine, she was a badass.
Key word “was”.

I couldn’t connect with the hero and he (incl. his arrogant attitude and manwhore past) ruined the book for me.

The heroine’s inexplicable attraction to this man was my pet pevee.

My badass heroine does never melt into a pool of hormones at manwhore’s feet.

Slut-shaming alarm!

All OWs the H dated/screwed were skanks. And apparently Victoria Secret’s models were skanks too.
F*ck this! And who told me about this theory? The h from 1st book with zero self-respect and the h from 2nd book who was pining for the man who ignored her for years? Hypocritical pathetic females.

F*ck slut-shaming!

I really like this author she is fantastic, she always manages to pull me in and won't let me go until the end. The only small down side, there isn't an epilogue but it's okay as we can see them grow in the other books.

I liked the others a bit more, I don't really know why because I enjoyed the hell out of this one as well.

Something true and something that will stay with me

But there are some scars even time can't heal.

Nate to Tink/Zoe
"Phoebe and Parker both claimed you. They want you around. That means I'm claiming you too."

I loved how funny the are separated but together even more! They are a very good couple!

If you love Boston, you will have all the nostalgia feels. The FMC is a badass hacker in this one. The MMC knows she is what he wants. Found family vibe. Julie Johnson’s books are a good time. To me, her plots are full of drama, tea & wholesome love in these contemporary romances.

One Good Reason by Julie Johnson ~ 4.5 Stars

**** I fell in love with Julie Johnson’s story Say the Word and I have been looking forward to reading One Good Reason. WHOA!!! What an awesome read this was!!! Julie Johnson is becoming one of favorite authors.

Zoe was dealt a shitty hand of cards early in life. She lost her parents when she was just a little girl. Zoe went to hell and clawed her way back. She survived – thrived, in fact… she is now a successful hacker - a good one at that. She uses her skills to help people and catch dirty criminals. Zoe is a strong heroine with a no bullshit attitude. She has a big job dealing with Lancaster Consolidated – the last thing she needs is romantic entanglements. Least of all from tangle free, wanderlust Parker West.

Parker does not like responsibility or obligation. His mojo involves seizing the moment. Parker spends most of his time chasing adventures around the world. But a family crisis forced Parker to grow up and take over his family business as CEO. The only things he will be chasing now are deadlines. Parker’s life is monotonous and he intends on getting out of dodge as soon as possible. That’s until he comes face to face with the beautiful, mysterious blonde hacker girl. Will he go or will he stay?

One good reason has an interesting plot line -- one I have not read in the past. Hacker girl is selfless – she wants to help people and has in fact gotten herself in trouble in the process. Zoe leads us on a suspenseful adventure with the bad boys from Lancaster and even the FBI. The story really kept me intrigued the whole time, not only the budding romance but also the mysterious entanglement that Zoe got herself into.

I really like the author’s writing style – just flawless. The dialogues are full of sassy and witty banters but also the narrative is full of humor. The chemistry between Zoe and Parker are well composed. The main characters connect effortlessly with each other from the time they first meet to the magnetic, passionate romance they feel for each other. Zoe and Parker seem like an unlikely couple but they complement each other – Zoe is sheltered only because she does not have the means to be adventurous. Parker understands this, so he wants to help Zoe see the world in a different light. I absolutely adore both characters. Their love story is sweet but also scorching hot and sexy. The secondary character Lucca is also fantastic. He is such a protective, loyal friend to Zoe. I am not so sure their friendship is 100% platonic – maybe to Zoe, Lucca is a big brother but I think he is secretly in love with her …. Well, I smell romance and I do hope Lucca will have a HEA with a certain red head… Pretty please!!!!

Overall, this was a fantastic read. RomCom with a dash of suspense and whole lot of sexy romance. As I said before, I love Julie Johnson stories and I cannot wait to read her next book – hopefully Lucca’s story.

If you love…
- Sizzling hot chemistry
- Witty Banter
- Alluring sexiness
- Swoon worthy romance
and…
- A mysterious danger lurking in the shadows

… then One Good Reason {Boston Love Story Book 3} is the novel you have been looking for!

**One Good Reason was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**
First, let me just start out by saying that before you even get to chapter one you fall in love with the book simply because Julie Johnson’s dedications are the absolute best.

“For the lonely girls with big dreams and broken hearts. It gets better.”

I mean… Perfect! Thank you, Julie, for that!

Second, I am in LOVE with this book… and Parker West! I want everyone to read it and fall in love with the story behind the sexy cover. I’ve gone on and on about this novel to my family and friends to the point where, I’m sure, they’ve thought about putting a piece of duct tape over my mouth to shut me up.

…Ooops! *shrugs* But what’s a book nerd to do when she’s just finished the pages of a smoldering hot romantic comedy? Keep that info to herself? I don’t think so!

Julie Johnson’s talents truly shine in her latest novel about a bad-ass hacker, or as the FBI likes to call her “Clover”, and an ultra-sexy playboy that might have more going on behind the womanizing facade he shows the world. One Good Reason holds all of the qualities that I’ve come to adore in the Boston Love Series: the crazy fun loving character crossovers from the pages of Not You It’s Me and Cross The line, book 1 & 2 of the Boston Love Series, the grade A humor, and the pulse pounding passionate romance that only Julie Johnson can deliver, but this time it’s through the eyes of a vigilante.

“I am Boston. Boston is me. And, so help me God, I’m going to take it back from those who’d seek to poison it. That’s not a promise – It’s a vow.”

Zoe Bloom is a hacker, or “Hacktivist” as she would say, that was born and bred in Boston and has spent her life simply surviving, never truly living, with her best friend Luca. After a childhood full of pain and heartache, that still haunts her to this day; she knows frivolous things such as family, friendship, and romance are a luxury she can’t afford. That all changes when Parker West waltzes into her life.

“Don’t you f***ing leave me. Didn’t even know what I was looking for, until I met you, Zoe. I didn’t even think it was possible to feel like this about someone. So stay with me, okay? Stay.”

*heart melts*

Parker West has always spent his life running from family obligation. After having to grow up too fast, he wants nothing more than to relax and LIVE life with as much fun as possible. But when a crisis forces him back to the streets of Boston he has no option but to stay. Temporarily. However after a run in with a mysterious blond he finds himself drawn to her and for the first he has a reason to stay.

When these two share a page they are electric! Not only will the pages of witty banter and sexual innuendos keep you laughing for chapters but the scorching hot chemistry between the two will leave your panties melting, your heart pounding, and you leaning on left elbow, face in palm, with a dreamy look in your eyes.

Like I said before Julie Johnson’s talent truly shines in the third installment of the Boston Love Series. Her ability to go from A+ humor to scenes filled with heart-stopping passion and romance is something that all authors should be envious of and something all readers should experience! The craziest part? She makes it seem like it’s a piece of cake.
Don’t forget to add it to your TBR list and, while it is a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the first two in the series.
Until next time… <3

P.s.
I want visit Boston so bad after reading these books, and so will you! Trust me!

Story 3.5 stars rounded up. Narration 4.5 stars
This was fairly good. I liked the main characters-especially the mmc-and the romance. There are mystery and suspenseful moments as well. There’s found family both old and new. There’s even bending the law for a good cause and I liked that part. However, I didn’t like a big part of the mystery to be told to the main characters as now solved rather than they being involved in it like they should have been. I want to be shown the action you’ve been waiting for as a reader rather than told is another way to explain. That made me lower my rating from 4 stars to 3.5 stars rounded up. Not a big deal as I rounded up, but I know it’s there. Recommended to adult readers of romance. There’s some spice, but not a lot.

It makes me sad because I have really enjoyed this author's other books but her constant references to Disney characters, "humor" and banter that fell flat and characters I really didn't like made this a two star read.
The heroine, Zoe, had such potential but J.J. just kept making her dialogues ridiculous. Zoe wants to be a bad ass so the similarities to Lisbeth Salander aren't lost on me. Zoe is a hacker taking down corporate villains, is small in stature, her familial background and even her clothing choices are all similar. But she stomps her tiny foot and demands to an FBI agent, who could let the cat out of the bag and bring charges against her, mind you, to have her FBI name changed from The Clover because it isn't badass enough. So after all her demands to be a badass, her next area of conversation lands on some Disney character or some contrived sexual innuendo filled convo with Parker. I must mention that Outlander does get an honorable mention in one of Zoe's rants. Great, I get it, the author is fangirling, but fangirling does not make a book.
Ugh, don't get me started on the hero, Parker. Stereotype, stereotype, stereotype. Oh and he can not take anything seriously, always joking and most of his jokes are sophomoric. I skimmed this one hard, I just couldn't take the dialogue between Parker and Zoe anymore. Even the "suspenseful" ending didn't make sense to me.

" if you live your life afraid of all the bad things that might happen , you'll miss out on all the good ones that definitely will "

enjoyable ,sweet, heart warming and filled with funny moments .
the only thing that i didn't like about One Good Reason or in Cross the Line , is the plot-line it was pretty much the same in all of Boston love series ( girl gets in the middle of some mob action ,gets kidnapped TWICE , gets rescued and then happy ending ! )
i loved it in the first book thought it was original ,but the last two i really wanted something new with these characters .

The Peter Pan and Tinkerbell analogy failed spectacularly. Because despite the fact that Tinkerbell was there for Peter Pan all along, he still chose Wendy.

Horrible MCs, drama/ shambles plot, as one dimensional as can be😒. I'm a die hard Grey's anatomy fan, and well... Meredith says this to Derek ( it's pretty general) but seeing it in this book still makes me annoyed:

“Don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what?” he asks innocently.
“Like you know what I look like naked.”

One Good Reason by Julie Johnson

Ahhhhh!!! I've been so looking forward to this book and I am so thrilled that it did not disappoint!

The Boston Love series has quickly become a huge favorite of mine. Johnson infuses so much life and personality into her characters that they actually feel like friends. I was dying for Tinkerbell and Parker to get a story because they seem so completely opposite. Zoe is a hacker, but one might say of the Robin Hood variety - only hacks into the bad guys for the greater good. And Parker is a carefree playboy with a heart of gold, when it comes to Zoe. I freaking LOVE the banter between these two, and even between all the other characters. There's so much fun, wittiness, drama, and the right amount of steaminess. If you ask me, Johnson has the perfect recipe for a five star RomCom. I don't hesitate to recommend this book and series. Just love it. Now please can I have a story for Luca? And Shelby? And Colton. Definitely Colton!

The cover was cheesy, but I liked the blurb and wanted something fun and light. Well, I now have a new author! With slight KA undertones and a great ensemble of characters, a playboy millionaire, and a quirky "Tinkerbell" computer genius, it was a winner for me and exactly what I was in the mood for.

I could tell it was the 3rd in a series, but it worked as a standalone. I'll definitely try the previous books in the series to see if they are as good as this one!

“You are my favorite kind of adventure”

Just when I thought the Boston Love series could not get any better, we are given another amazing installment. Julie Johnson delivers in this witty, sexy, suspenseful and flawlessly written story of opposites attracting. One Good Reason was utterly addictive, and I loved every second of it.

Zoe Bloom hasn’t lived an easy life. She spends her time behind a computer screen working as a talented hacker. Relationships of any sort are not a luxury she can afford. The last thing she needs in her life is romance. At least that’s what she thought before running into Parker West.

Parker West loves a good adventure. Forced to give up his carefree life, he has taken over the role of CEO in his families company. He’s buying his time until the company is back up and running and he can head back out into the world. The last thing he expects is to meet the mysterious and sassy blonde that turns his world upside down.

I adored both of these characters so much. Their chemistry was off the charts and I really loved their witty banter. Zoe was an “ice queen” but she was such a badass at the same time. She has been through so much, and I wanted her to find some happiness. As the story goes on we see her defenses go down as she falls for the incredibly charming Parker. Parker really made the story for me. He was just so charismatic, and carefree. It would be impossible not to love him. He was everything that Zoe never knew she needed. Their love story was just simply satisfying.

If you're a fan of hilarious romantic comedies with a little suspense mixed it… then you need to pick up the Boston Love Series by Julie Johnson. You will not be disappointed!!

*All of the books in this series are considered standalone novels. However, I recommend reading all the books in order. Not only are they all equally amazing, but you get to meet all the recurring characters.*

I really had to force myself to finish this. As another review stated, The Peter Pan and Tinkerbell analogy failed spectacularly.

I hated Zoe. She was immature and ridiculous. Parker wasn't much better, and his "insta-love/lust" for Zoe made no sense. If it wasn't for really enjoying the other books in this series, and have a pretty good spoiler in this book for two previous characters, I would have given this a DNF.

Dear heroine you will never be a badass your just a whiny, annoying, rude , pretentious, despicable person who have no self confidence or loyalty towards your best friend/brother and automatically hates on women who dress well

The heroine pretends to be a badass ,was unnecessary rude almost all the time and the author calls it sassy🤦.
Hero is an idiot like a real moron he behaved stupidly everytime and I ask myself are they adults or kids because no adult would behave as dumb as both of them .
