I grew up reading SFF, buying the biggest books I could with my chore money. While I loved the action, adventure, and exciting worlds, most of those stories were missing…kissing! Now I read and write paranormal romance and science fiction romance which I think mix the best of all worlds. I also write urban fantasy romance as Jessa Slade and sexy contemporary romance as Jenna Dales.

I spend most of my time at my computer thinking about stories, in my garden thinking about stories, or walking my dog thinking about stories. Hmm, I think there’s a theme… 🙂

This was the story that I’ve been waiting for! I loved books one and two, but I wanted Esme and Bale to have a story so bad it was ridiculous!!
Two broken, and damaged, souls. They both lived without needing a thing, and they both became trapped by it. The girl that was always a puppet, and the dragon lord that was slowly turning to stone. This book is about how they find away to erase the pain and find a way to fix everything that was broken.
I loved the push, the pull, and the hot burning desire these characters had. I loved how love conquers what once felt hopeless. Esme and Bale are perfect for each other. Their chemistry was out of this world. It was hot, and it was intense. This book was an absolute masterpiece. I’m officially this author’s super fan! This trilogy is unforgettable, the book, an absolute masterpiece!! I highly recommend this series!!

Dragon Fall Elsa Jade

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

There's a happy ending in store for the hot dragon king and the feisty damsel in distress. I absolutely loved it.

The third book in the Masters of the Flame series by Elsa Jade, one of my favourite authors, as well as being part of the multi-author Mating Fever Collection of stand alone paranormal romances, is the terrific 'Dragon Fall', and it's another winner in a long list for this author. I love the Nox Incendi dragons, and with this book, Elsa Jade has given us another action packed, edge of the seat roller-coaster ride to go with the sizzling paranormal romance as Bale Dorado, King of the Dragons not only gets his Solarys, the heart of his treasure, but as she ignites the long dead flames within him, he gets a permanent cure for the Petralys that had him, quite literally, falling out of the sky when it struck. But this fantastic story is about a fall of a different kind and for more than one or two of the characters. All of the books in this series can be read as stand alones and they all have their own individual happily ever afters with enough background to enable each story to stand on it's own, but each book carries on from the previous one as a continuous story thread involving most, if not all of the characters and to get the most out of them, I think they need to be read in order.

Bale Dorado lives in constant agony as the petralys slowly turns his body to stone and the ichor which allows a dragon to heal, extends their lives and gives them fire, has dried up to almost nothing. He's dying, and despite the best efforts of his brother Rave to come up with a cure, he's resigned himself to that fact and lived like a recluse, alone in his dark aerie for so long his dragons barely recognise him. But the arrival at The Keep, the dragon's casino in Las Vegas, of three young women for a weekend bachelorette party changes the fortunes of the Nox Incendi for the better, despite the evil that sent them there.

Esme Montenegro, pushed by her status governed grand-mother, is an unwilling pawn in a grand scheme hatched by her so-called fiance, Lars Ashcraft, and has been consistently drugged to keep her under his control, but as soon as everyone realises why Esme is getting sicker by the day, Bale offers to look after her and keep the evil at bay. Drawn to Esme like a moth to a flame, Bale thinks he's found his Solarys and Esme feels safe with him, even if she's not actually conscious. But there are complications, dastardly plans to rule the world, a hidden fortress in the middle of Salt Lake and voodoo magic to be overcome before they're all free of Ashcraft's evil and get their happily ever after.

I'm not going to give spoilers and ruin the edge of the seat tension that's built into this terrific, action packed and steamy paranormal romance, filled with wonderful characters, lots of them other shifters drawn in to help, as well as magic and mayhem with a few laughs and a tear or two along the way to the happy ending.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and I really couldn't put it down, but then I didn't want to either. I was hooked from beginning to end, absolutely loved it, and it's definitely on the list of books I'd rescue if the house was burning down. It's very definitely a 5 star plus read, one of those books I'll be reading again and again and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal romance with action and substance to go with the hot dragon king and the feisty damsel in distress.

SUMMARY
Bale's dragon stirs near Esme. He soothes her during nightmares. He's destroyed the mushroom ring, and he promises to keep her safe. Rave comes in, doesn't believe Bale’s dragon would choose her, thinks Bale has a soft spot for hard luck cases. Bale insists Esme is his solarys. Rave says Esme has never been strong, according to Piper, and if Bale tries to claim her as his mate, they'll both die. Rave carries her away.

Esme accuses Rave of thinking she's still a danger to the dragon clan. Her rooms are lush but lonely. “Mirror, mirror, who is the faintest of them all?” She sees herself as a ghost, that no one would miss her if she floated away. "There wasn’t anything to her that hadn’t been given to her by someone else, not money, not connections." She eats a meal with the girls, decides she wants to lose her virginity. She heads to the casino.

Torch comes to Bale to get her out of the casino before she finds the wrong company. He thinks Rave is a mother hen, that there are fates worse than death. Bale says he's deformed. Torch says let Esme look and choose.

“I’ll give you a prize if you come back to the cavern now. A gift more precious than any token in that machine.” She remembers him, then remembers he's the king. Then she sees flames in his eyes and remembers he's the beast, too. She asks why he came down. “I’ve been watching over you for a few days now. And so, I feel…” When he paused, she offered, “Sorry for me?” “Possessive.” “I don’t want to be possessed by anyone. I’ve had enough of that.” “Good. So let me escort you back to your suite.” He held out the crook of his right elbow, his left arm still hidden under the cape. “And make no mistake, Esme. You *are* a prize.”

EVALUATION
With hints of Snow White (grandmother who sees her as an asset only; Esme seemingly dead on an altar with a moat) and Beauty and the Beast (Bale hides his stone wing from all eyes), this story finishes the trilogy. Each girl thought they weren't enough, each guy thought he didn't have enough to offer. I like Bale. His distress is, for me, understandable. Esme's self-esteem and self-harm issues aren't addressed.

I'm disappointed we didn't get more magic, more voodoo, more explanation of the rings. Also, Lars is a stock villain.

RECOMMENDATION
Those who've read books 1 and 2

FAVORITE QUOTES

Ah, this is Esme’s story. Obviously she’s going to be the one who will save Bale from turning into a giant piece of stone but the question is, how? In books 1 & 2, she was the ultimate victim – helpless, a pawn and seemingly weak. Dragon Fall has a huge challenge to overcome and I’m happy to say I liked how the whole story arc got wrapped up. It was quite the journey getting there.

The author really focused on the plot in Dragon Fall. Every thread, plot twist and emotional conflict fed the suspense, drama and action as Esme came into her own – as a woman and as a worthy mate for a dragon. It was Bale in the previous story that figured out her engagement ring was bogus. What it did to her was pretty nefarious.

Bale used to be a true alpha dragon, but the sickness he has is killing him and it’s only a matter of time. His character is the perfect example of a tortured hero. In the previous books it sounded like he was giving up. I’m so glad his tune changed in this story. Of course romance readers are going to credit Esme, her being the heroine and all, but it’s true. She inspired him to fight, to reach out for what he wanted which was her. Staying in a dark cave on the top of a casino can’t earn him any more brownie points. Now, Bale has to come out into the light. I got a kick out of Ms. Jade’s description of the hero’s clothes and Esme’s initial reaction when he interrupted her playing the slots. Very sexy and quite fun.

There are sexy shenanigans once Esme’s effect on Bale takes hold. I was so happy to read them. Yes, they were well written but they were something I craved to read because Bale and Esme deserved every delightful groan, sigh and big O experienced between both of them. Their chemistry was irresistible and it made me happy that they were happy – eventually. They had to suffer through a lot of challenges to get to that point.

The suspense and action comes from the villainous (as Esme, Piper and Anjali liked to call Lars Ashcraft), and I quote, “ash-hole”, finally getting what he deserves in a most ironic twist. I smirked every time I read that nick-name. It’s so appropriate and I think other readers would agree once they get to ‘know’ him.

First it was Rave, then Torch, now Bale has his happy ever after. There’s nothing like happy alpha dragons loving their mates. The ending was dramatic, heroic and fitting. Dragon Fall was the perfect wrap up for a wonderful paranormal romance trilogy. I’m so happy skippy I got to finish the series. And now that I have, I can tell everyone what a fun trio of stories they are and perfect for fans of sexy dragons in love.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall

Bale Dorado is the dying reyex (king) of the Nox Incendi dragon clan. Cursed with an incurable malady that is turning him literally to stone, he hides his disfigured body in a dark lair and awaits death. Butt the arrival of three human women in the Keep has stirred strange thoughts - of hope, of vengeance, and desire... Esme is a beautiful society girl whose bulimia echoes her emptiness of soul and deadness of spirit. She's the good little pawn - of her piraña-like wealthy grandmother, of her wealthy and power-hungry warlock fiancee, and now, apparently of the dragon king, who calls her solarys. Two beings whose live have been stolen from them well before their actual deaths must learn to BE, and to love, in this darkest and most action-packed third volume of Elsa Jade's Masters of the Flame trilogy. Readers will love the sexy romance, and also the powerful action and suspense as the trilogy's ongoing plot arc is resolved in fire and desire.

The best of the series, but that’s not saying much...

Bale Dorado, dragon king, fall for the last of the hopeless, self-loathing trio, Esme. Why in the world would a supposedly strong king fall for such a fragile, ghost of a woman... I guess because finding a woman in Vegas is so hard when you’re handsome, rich and don’t get out much, say for centuries...

Esme is finally able to shake the voodoo that Ashcraft has cast and amazingly, when she wakes up in Bale’s penthouse prison, she is unafraid...and of course by this time while she has been languishing unconscious, Bale has not only fallen for her but determined she is his solarys—true mate...

The main players have changed but the game remains the same...destroy Ashcraft or ruin him financially and burn his playground down, literally. Ashcraft is undeterred and stages one last hurrah and is brought to task by one of his very own devices. Fitting for such a wicked and nefarious character.

Overall, the Masters of the Flame series is only okay, unremarkable and unmemorable. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 3 stars.

This book was definitely the best of the three. It had just enough information that it seemed less hollow than the others.
Also more happened, I would have like to see some other things happen (i.e. more characters, more settings, more PLOT), but this was definitely an improvement on the other two where it seemed like NOTHING was moving forward except the relationships which were lacklustre themselves.
The only real problem I had was that her reason for leaving seemed flimsy and then her going back was abrupt AF. Her change of heart was too sudden. I would have liked to see a bigger passage of time pass (and this goes for all three books, the timeline was too short for so much development to the point it was unreasonably unrealistic).

Bale Dorado is king over the Nox Incendiary Dragons and half turned to stone (a blight killing the older dragons on the clan, which Bale thinks he’s to far gone to save) and Esme Montenegro is the damsel in distress they’ve been trying to save since the very beginning. However, she alone has the power to save the half-stone king and Bale is torn between saving her or himself (destroying her in the process). It’s a great wrap up to an amazing series that has brooding dragons and heroins that just won’t take their crap laying down.

What a terrific series !!!

What a wonderful 3rd book to this series !!!
Bale and Esme get their turn !!!
Bale is the king of the dragons , that has a very debilitating disease. He is slowly turning to stone.
Esme is the 3rd of the friends to get her turn. Coming from money doesn't necessarily mean you have it all . She gas always felt like she isn't enough. Now, as Dragon bait, she already knows, that she won't be enough.
As these two overcome So much to be together , this story heats up !!!
So happy I found this incredible series !!!

I Love Bale

Although Esme was a wilting flower destined to be used and abused by others, she became sure of herself and of what she wanted. I was a bit disappointed the author randomly changed Bale's appearance to suit the narrative of the story but I get why it was done. Bale's personality and his own self doubt was relatable and endearing. But, does the werewolf shifter Joel have a story? The people want to know! Lol

Finished this series and it’s also my first read of 2025. Absolutely loved this sweet, steamy fantasy series and loved seeing Esme, Anji, and Piper get their HEA’s. There was something extra sweet about this one in particular, Bale was soulful and dutiful and old fashioned in a way that was more endearing and less cringe. It was definitely insta-love so if that’s not your thing look out. Overall a good finale and my introduction to this author- I’ll definitely be reading more from her.

Final book in the trilogy. This focuses on Esme & Bale. I like that they were both essentially broken in some way or another and mended each other and themselves. We also get closure on the ash-hole wizard. There are hints of the dragons & werewolves working together previously so I'm guessing that's another series that I'll be seeking out.

Let's call it four and a half stars...I was really looking forward to reading more about Bane, and for the most part this story was as good as the others. I'm docking it a half-star, though, because I thought the author could have dealt a little better with the heroine's obvious eating disorder. Kind of glossed over it, and that was troubling to me.
Otherwise, the story is not to be missed.

Masters of the Flame (3)

Bale is slowly dying. Already a part of him has turned to stone. His brother & his mate are close to getting a vacine, but only a true mate can possibly save Bale now. Esme is improving she has been staying in Bale's cave, where he could keep her safe. But when the evil invaded her dreams his voice calms her. Bale knows she is his mate but feels he isn't the one for her, she is too fragile. As she starts to awaken, she goes and stays with her friends. She is attracted to Bale too,she remembers him talking to her, helping her, but feels too weak, he needs someone stronger than her, she's always been docile. It's time for a change.

Yes, you need to read the two first books for the overarching plot to make much sense. I liked this conclusion to the story, I enjoyed getting a conclusion to the characters' story and well, I just had a good time with Bale and Esme.

Just the fluff I needed to cheer up. Also... those wolves sound interesting...

Bale and Esme

The dying king and the failing princess. Both are losing their battles to survive and thrive. Both are desperately trying to regain confidence and control and both will be needed to bring down the wicked warlock. This is a beautiful love story and a good wrap up of the story line in the three related books. Read in order - loved all three.

Always end with a smile

This was a pleasure work. I enjoyed the dragons. Usually dragons are too sexy and offensive but this was spot on sexy but not willing to share. Stubborn and proud. Perfect for a king.

Nice ending…

I found the main character came back a bit too fast from being at “death’s door” to seducing the dragon king. Other than that…the story was great and the characters carried well from the first two books. A well conceived and written trilogy.
