His Secondhand Heart

Rate this book
A Gay Paranormal Romance Novel

The heart he needed in order to live already has another half.

It’s either death or a heart transplant for Cody Collins—he has days left to live. When he gets a match it’s like an answer to a prayer... or that spell he cast in a moment of desperation.

An eighteen-wheeler killed the love of Mark Finn’s life, and he’ll never love another man until the day he dies. Little does he know his psychic partner signed up to be an organ donor, and soon the heart that loved him will beat in a regular human’s chest.

Getting a new lease on life should have solved all of Cody’s problems... except now he can barely sleep because of the visions and hallucinations he’s having. The final straw is the sexy older gentleman who shows up at his door, insisting Cody is a psychic now. Yeah, right.

Then the visions come true. Turns out Portland isn’t as normal as Cody thought.

Mark agrees to help Cody adjust to his new life—but as soon as he’s got a hang of his powers, he’s leaving. His heart can’t take much more. When a stolen kiss reveals that Cody is tied to him by fate for the rest of their lives, it’s like losing Aiden all over again.

But grief and love alike will have to take a back seat when Cody sees a future in flames: a necromancer plans on taking the whole city straight to hell. Mark and his pupil will have to fight an entire army of the undead together... all the while wondering: is fated love just as deep the second time around?

Matters of the heart get complicated when magic is involved.

This is the first book I've read by M.H. Silver and I loved it. Considering it wasn't very long, the characters caught you up in their romance, even Aiden. Such a wonderfully, sweet ending but so sad at the same time. I'd love to see a book about Aiden, in his new future.

I felt some confusion at the death scene...since it almost seemed that the man who died was someone who Cody knew. But it wasn't explained so I might have been mistaken. Even so, I'm looking forward to reading more books by Ms. Silver.

While I knew I'd like the book because of who wrote it, I didn't think it would be one of my favorites. Boy was I wrong. I enjoyed the characters. Loved the aunt. i got this book free in exchange for an honest review.

I won this book in a goodreads contest.

This is the first published m/m romance I've read, also the first story that involves a necromancer. It has all the usual elements of romance novels but with paranormal elements too.

The paranormal elements help add to the story about Cody and Mark but don't take over. I'm not sure that Mark could fall for Cody so quickly after losing Aiden, even if his heart gets donated to Cody.

All in all, a great story. I will be passing my copy on to others and hopefully they will be interested in reading more books by this author and by this publishing house.

The story setup here was amazing! You have three different fascinating story concepts: 1) a man meeting and falling in love with the recipient of his lover's donated heart, and 2) the awakening of psychic powers from receiving the heart, and 3) paranormal armageddon is bearing down on Portland and must be stopped. All of these are woven together in one compelling and well-written narrative. Cody and Mark are both in a struck place in their life. Cody is just figuring out how to live after being ill and dying for so long; Mark is grieving and can't seem to put together a new life for himself. They come together over all three of the story points and forge a powerful connection. The paranormal details were excellent and original. The secondary characters were all interesting--especially Aunt Myrtle! I enjoyed the way the "epilogue" was handled and felt that it gave the story a great ending. I actually could see this making a great series with other occult practitioners finding love and fending off black magic in Portland. Great story! I'm really enjoying the books coming out of Lovelight Press.
I received a free copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review.

Very touching love story with witches, warlocks, seers and evil not to mention one cooky great aunt that is a witch. Aiden will be on and off throughout this story even though he is past but his heart is alive and pounding in Cody's chest. Mark is a warlock with a sight for ley lines and trailing for someone or something. Cody is days from death when he casts a spell from a book his cooky great aunt leaves behind in his hospital room. A spell for life. What Cody never thought in a million years that non believer will come to believe in things he never thought possible. Plus to actually have gay feelings all of a sudden is a new discovery, he like girls before he got too sick to be around anyone. Paranormal activity is on the rise especially after a demon killed Aiden and now is coming after Cody and Mark, but will they be able to stop the evil from turning Portland into help on Earth.

Warning "Don't forget your kleenex" very emotional paranormal romance. Cody has been fight heart problems all his life. He is on his death bed waiting for a heart transfer, which ends up being from Aiden who is a physic and dies in a motorcycle accident. His partner is a seeker, who tries to help Cody with his new powers. I started the book and finished all in one sitting. Full of twist, weird tuff going down. Lots of deaths. But it the heart conection between Cody and Mark that is beautiful. I was given this story for a honest review. And all I can say is it's a must read.

I received this book for an honest review.
Mark lost his partner, Aiden.
Aiden donated his organs and Cody received his heart. But Cody received much more than his heart, he received his gift for seeing the future as well.
Mark seeks out Cody to try to help him with his new gift, but could not for fear of the attraction.
Things get messy and they both have to come to terms with everything before the world ends.
Loved it.

I enjoyed this book. Please note that it is a m/m romance and there are sex scenes. The characters are well written. I especially liked Aunt Myrtle. It has a good storyline too. There’s romance, heart surgery, magic and an evil necromancer. I’ll probably read this story again and it certainly merits the 5 stars I awarded it.

This was a good story. The plot was very interesting and the book was filled with a bit of action. The supernatural element made it even more interesting and the author did a great job of describing the dark magic that was being used. The love story element was also written nicely.

Overall I thought this was a good book. The only thing that kept me from giving it a full 5 is that I never could quite wrap my head around how fast Mark moves on from his lover's death. Just couldn't buy that it happened that fast!
