Revised and expanded second edition! What have we settled for? Are we giving Him all He deserves? Everything of any importance in our lives as believers has to boil down to our relationship with our Creator, and yet we have been taught to settle for something lukewarm. We have relegated our walk with God to little more than a hobby, when the Scriptures plainly show us that God Himself is passionately in love with His people. He has revealed Himself as Father, Husband, King, and Master and has called each of us to become child, bride, ambassador and servant. How do we meet His level of commitment in a way that honors Him and proclaims His glory and truth to the world? It starts with understanding who He is, what He deserves, what He expects – and how it is all meant to manifest in our lives as the fulfillment of the two great commandments to love Him and our neighbors. The Bridge is going to challenge everything you think you know about God the Father. It is going to deepen your appreciation for Him, and I pray it will revive your first love. Through the revealed character of Jesus the Messiah of Israel, and through the writings of the Prophets and Apostles, I want to teach you how to live a life that is pleasing to God, a life that He rewards in the here and now -- the life that He has promised to bless from Genesis through Revelation. Let this book be your bridge into the fullness of Covenant life.
Tyler Dawn Rosenquist is a graduate of the University of California, Davis with a degree in Chemistry. She has been married to Mark Rosenquist, her high school sweetheart, since 1991 and they have twin teenage sons whom they were blessed to adopt at birth. She came to faith in 1999 after a 29 year struggle with God, often working actively against Him.
Tyler Dawn has a passionate love of writing, and a knack for boiling down complexities into simple terms. Her primary focus is on the character of God as revealed in the scriptures, and how it relates to our relationship with Him, which naturally transitions into an exploration of what the character of believers should look like in a modern world. She loves to express ideas by placing them in a context that everyone can relate to, through personal stories and parables, but also loves digging down to and exploring the basic foundational matters of scripture.
Tyler Dawn is a woman on a mission to develop the character of Jesus, help others do the same, and to bring the Body back into alignment with the early church by teaching and preaching the Word of God in fullness and context. She is a homeschooler and a proud advocate of special needs parenting and adoption. She can be found online at www.contextforkids.com, www.theancientbridge.com, and Context for Kids on youtube.
Tyler Dawn is so Thoreau in her scripture filled, thought provoking book that leaves no stone unturned. I love how she keeps her opinion out of it and let's the reader discover through her scripture filled solid research, things that one might not have found but she so vividly brings to light.
This is a well-written book, albeit more for the Christian beginner rather than one who already excels in biblical scholarship of the Old Testament.
The focus is to identify from the Torah (first 5 books of the Old Testament) who God really is, and to help the reader understand his true character and the laws and feasts he set up, emphasizing that God never overturns his commands; thus, those laws should still be kept today. This includes the observance of today’s Jewish practices. Further, Jesus did not do away with all the Torah commands, which the majority of Christians assume are no longer applicable. For example, in her emphasis on keeping the Sabbath, she points out the extreme contrast of how many Christians today fail to observe it correctly, if at all; also the Seder meal.
Basic to the book is the expounding on the laws and commands of God in the Torah, what it means to love God and walk in his ways, and the consequences if not followed. She also challenges Christianity’s understanding of certain scriptures, and gives her own interpretation. Whether right or wrong, they are worth reading.
Of interest was her commentary on the Torah's cultural background and how to understand a first century Jew. This will prove an eye-opener for new Christians, yet still be of interest to more advanced readers.
The section I especially found interesting was the detailed explanation of the Jewish Wedding Covenant (the betrothal and the ceremony) that gives a deeper understanding to the church as bride of Christ and the important application to believers. Also fascinating, the Bar Mitzvah and the explanation of the deeper role the father plays prior to the Bar Mitzvah, and what he then relinquishes at the ceremony.
The book is definitely worth reading. The only thing I found bothersome for me was that some parts of the book were repetitious. Others, however, may not even notice this.
This book is great for beginners or seasoned Messianic/Torah Observant believers. Who am I kidding, this book is great for anyone who is wanting to know more about the origins of Christianity. This book brings you back to the basics and highlights the truth from the word of God. I really enjoyed this book and refer back to it often when I am trying to find the truth in the midst of today's theology. Mrs. Rosenquist seems very educated based on her writing. This is one of the first books that I recommend to others interested in the Torah Observant life. I look forward to her future books.
