Great book that goes into detail exposing the truth about tithing. It quotes many scriptures and covers all the commonly heard arguments for tithing, as well as the threats used and pretty much demolishes them. The author makes the point that tithing the way it is taught today is not Biblical or for Christians, and as a matter of fact Jews don't even tithe anymore. As a result of everyone in church being pushed to tithe regardless of income or situation, many of the poorer members such as single parents just strain themselves financially. The poor people of the congregation are not helped at all in their situation, but rather taken advantage of. Well, really everyone is taken advantage of, but the consequences for the poor members are a lot more dire.

After demolishing tithing, the author makes the case the church can be supported through freewill offerings and it can also downsize its expenses and he also talks about home-based churches. He states giving to the poor is like insurance for becoming poor, which is something people think about tithing. However, tithing often goes to support unnecessary church expenses or bloated pastors' lifestyles and is not going to the poor. Overall I really loved the book and it actually somewhat restored my faith that God provides for people's basic needs or wants to at the very least. The only thing I didn't like is the scriptures were a little hard to read as they were underlined and in italics, but that's a small issue. I really loved this book and highly recommend it.
