It has been my lifelong dream to really break into the music industry. Mixing and producing music has always been my ultimate; my love, my life, my drug, my sex, my everything! That was until I met Alannah Matthews. Now I exist solely for her. I breathe for her. I live to make her happy. She makes me everything I am.
I know she understands my affair with music, she has been my biggest supporter since the first time she ever saw me play. When she saw me audition for Epic Records in London she knew just what music means to me, and that realising this dream means the world to me. Only, it also means I will have to move from Manchester to London to be nearer Epic Records HQ. This is where Alannah’s support stops.
Have you ever had a dream that morphed into a nightmare? Well, that’s exactly what the opportunity of a lifetime turned out to be for me. This is my time to shine. This is my chance to rock London. This is my rise to the top, in my own words. Without Alannah, it is a unique and very beautiful form of torture! - Dayton Scott
Advice notice. This book contains adult content and is rcommended to readers 18+ years of age. It is a novella continuation of The Final Note (DJ Series 1) and it is advised to read The Final Note before starting Off The Record for a better reading experience
Helen J. Barnes has been writing since 2014 and kicked off the year with The Learning Curve, the first novel in the Inner Strength Series, followed up by A Rising Angel. She is also the Author of the DJ Series. The Final Note, Disrespectful Diva and Crazy Perfection is due to be released October 2015.
Married to a DJ/Producer and record label manager, she has three children and was born and raised in Nottinghamshire, UK.
When not writing Helen enjoys reading and home educating her children when they're not holidaying on the east coast of England. She has unhealthy addiction to Ian Somerhalder, Tom Hardy, chocolate, anything tie dyed and is obsessed with all things Titanic related.
Helen J Barnes' Off the Record is the fourth and last book of the DJ series and the only novella. It is Dayton Scott's side of The Final Note and gives us that very much anticipated look inside of his gorgeous head. It is there we find an unbelievable amount of strength, passion, and devotion. This story made me fall in love with Dayton all over again.
Dayton Scott has always loved one thing in life and that was mixing and producing music. It was his passion, his pleasure, his dream. Music was his life until Alannah Matthews showed up and turned it all upside down.
Quote: Mixing and producing music has always been my ultimate; my love, my life, my drug, my sex, my everything.
Alannah is now, Dayton's reason for living! She completes him; makes him whole. She fills a void that he didn't realize was in his heart. After only four short months, Dayton and Alannah wouldn't know how to live without one another.
Now, here comes the ultimate test of their love. Alannah accepted her dream job at a local law firm in Manchester, while Dayton has been offered his dream job at Epic Records... IN LONDON! Will Alannah give up her dream and move to London or will Dayton give up his dream to stay in Manchester with Alannah? If one of them gives in, will the resent each other forever? Or can they survive the long distance relationship if neither decide to budge? I beg you to read this book and find out for yourself!
Off the Record by Helen J Barnes is an amazing addition to the DJ series and I loved being inside of Dayton's head. This story answered so many questions I had about The Final Note and it made me appreciate it all the more. It is emotional, motivating, sexy, and filled with angst. Helen did a fantastic job with this novella and I highly recommend it!!
I was given this book in turn for an honest review.
Drayton Scott has been working hard to achieve the ultimate DJ status and live his dream in London. When Alannah walked into his life, he realised he wanted more than just his music. When opportunity knocks it throws him and Alannah into the unknown.
When Helen said she was going to write Drayton’s story I was so excited to get a glimpse into the man I fell in love with in The Final Note and discover how he had truly felt in the time he and Alannah spent apart. I can safely say that Helen J. Barnes did not disappoint!
Drayton is still every bit the sexy, kind hearted, loyal and wonderful man he was in the first book, if you hadn’t truly fallen for him you will now. You can feel the pain and heartache he goes through in his time apart from Alannah, to feel so isolated and alone when he had finally got everything he had wanted with his career was heart breaking to read.
We also get a glimpse into his best friend Luke and Corinne and how they both view the relationship he and Alannah had. I can’t deny I wanted to slap Luke, I felt he could have supported Drayton more, this said I can’t say I totally agreed with Corinne’s point of view either, however I can say I loved she was up front and honest with Drayton.
I do recommend you read The Final Note before reading Off the Record to fully enjoy this series.
If you love music, romance, suspense and humour, you will absolutely love the DJ series by Helen J. Barnes.
This was a wonderful story! I loved reading about Dayton and Alannah. It's not always roses and sunshine and watching them go through hell was tough. But watching Dayton bloom in his career was exciting. Loved the flow, the characters and the over all story.
Now what can we say about Dayton Scott, he is everything you can ever wish for, his down for a good time. When Dayton left Manchester to move to London he didn’t just leave Lexis his friends and family but he also left his heart :( until 4 months later he is reunited with the sophisticated Alannah. Make sure you read this book you won’t read anything like it

Off the record is a short novella and the 4th book in the DJ Series,
And one I've been eagerly waiting for, it's Dayton Scott's side of the story from book 1 of the DJ Series The Final Note, when Dayton leaves Manchester to go make a name for himself down in London,
This is where we find out about his passion for making music, and the absolute adrenaline rush from playing in big venues,
We also get to know what's on his mind now that Alannah has let him to go and For fill dreams,
And leaving her behind in Manchester,
I have totally loved this 4th book of the DJ series and I fell in love with Dayton Scott all over again,
This book was totally worth waiting for, and it's a great addition to the rest of the series , it's 5 raving stars from me, and a high 5 to Helen j Barnes for this fantastic series, I really cannot wait to see what Helen J Barnes writes next and I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES
I absolutely adore the DJ series, and I was delighted when the fabulous Helen J Barnes decided to go back to her DJ roots with the gorgeous Dayton Scott. He and Alannah were always my faves, so it seemed perfectly right that the series ended on a funky high with the two of them. As always, this author delivers what I love to read. Sass & Class. There's love, laughter, sex, heartache...all fabulously wrapped in the EDM scene. I cannot wait for what is to come from Helen J Barnes, as her writing style is as mentioned before...Sass & Class. A FUNKIFIED five stars!!!
