After reading all three short stories, I look back at this book and I can't remember anything vaguely interesting or memorable about it. There's just one word to describe this book...meh.
This is part two of three, but I'll just leave my opinion of the whole rather than the parts. It felt like the author had a lot of ideas while writing, and tried to incorporate every single one- regardless of whether she was going to follow up on them or not. For example, we learn that the Commander supposedly has this grudge against Laura because she saw him in a supply closet, when he could have sent someone else to get whatever he needed for him. Even at the very end of the book, we still never know what he was doing there- just that he was, and this made him want to send the girl on a suicide mission. Another example is her being abducted by a race called the Doon. At the end of the book, they only have suspicions of how the group is tied into the arc- and nothing is mentioned on how they will be dealt with. Laura is supposed to have dreamed of being Delta Force her whole life, having pulled her way up and out of poverty to achieve becoming a member of the most badass military unit there is. Yet at the first hint of conflict, she becomes an emotional mess. She's supposed to be strong, but vulnerable, physically fit after only being out of the academy for a year (and a month training with delta force), yet also out of shape- with a spare tire around the middle, determined, and also naive. I'm okay with an h that didn't wear an emotional bullet-proof-vest, just don't try to bill her as something completely different. My biggest issue was the insanely abrupt ending. There's all this build up, then it's just done. Over. No more explanations, no epilogue. I questioned if there was another book that would tie everything up... there's not. The writer has a lot of potential in sci-fi, but I think she'd greatly benefit from an editor, and some good beta-readers. I would read more from her in the future.
I've decided to just write one review for all 3 parts. Part 1 successfully grabbed my attention, it made me interested and I already started to like the characters. Part 2 was the same, I liked where the story line was going and I really wanted to find out what was next. Things started going down hill around part 3, I still loved the characters and the plot but the ending made me unhappy. Don't get me wrong it was a HEV (or at least I think it was), but there was so many unresolved issues!!! I have so many questions and dammit I want to know what happens next and honestly I'm not 100% sure if it was a HEA because what happens after was left as a giant question mark, unless there's a next book or sequel or continuous or something I am unhappy! I REALLY wanted to give this book 4 stars but gosh to many things are bugging me. I wish the author had just done one long good book instead of these short little "series books". I don't mind series featuring the same character and when the book continues issues but when I'm only getting like 70pages and the next book starts off as if I just went to the next chapter it annoys me because details are usually lost. I really wish the author had done better because I wanted to love this.
A planet national guard and a Havlor king are captured by the Doon an put in a cell together an the sparks start to fly toward each other instantly.
The continuing series that captivates you as the struggle between Laura and Vorad escalate to new heights as the problem between their 2 planets brewing for war and also in the bedroom as well . 18+
Like I said with Book 1, I needed a distraction so thought something big and blue might do it. It didn't. Usually the 'alpha-alien' genre has humor or a realism like what you find watching Star Trek movies. Not with this. The King behaves more like a human, though big & blue ...so it's like reading a bad novel.
