DNF @ 73%. **WARNING - some cussing and ranting to follow**

Man! I've had some bad luck lately. This was one that kept me intruiged even though I had a nagging feeling in my head that the H was an asshole that was just going to hurt the h, and I am really frustrated that I didn't listen to it! I have a pretty high tolerance for manwhore tendencies, and I also don't mind a dose of unrequited love every once in a while -- but this just had way too many things that irritated me.

I'll break it all down -- BUT don't click the spoiler tag unless you really want it to be spoiled:

Where oh where have all the backbones gone? I want a strong female that I want to relate to! This is the second book I've read in probably a month that have had this same sort of thing happen. Do authors really think that we want to read about assholes and the women who fall all over themselves to be with them?!? Do they think that we want to read about women that have no self respect as long as they get the big cock and some oral action?!? I just don't get it people...it's a disgrace to the female population if society thinks that this is the character that we want to relate to.

Ok, stepping away from my soapbox now...sorry for my rant ladies ;)

Addition: When I went back to the book, I skimmed ahead and it actually ends only at 85% on my kindle app! So that just proves to me that they wrap everything all up and tie it with a happy little bow in 10 more %!!! Obviously everything must have been pretty hunky-dorey after where I dnf'd it.

***TWO TERRIBLY IMMATURE STARS***

I was in the mood for a story that didn't take itself too seriously or get too deep. This one sucked me right in, and it actually started out with a little more depth to it than I was expecting.

I'm a sucker for a good story about forbidden love, and this older brother's manwhoring best friend read fit the bill to a "T"! I loved all the drama surrounding a sweet girl dating a former manwhore and all the way too many slutty women he's been with before he finds this girl to be the one he's ready to get serious with.

Bracken is such a dirty talker and texter (my fave!), and he gave me the stomach butterflies with all his naughty words he'd say to Nautica during their secret trists. The insecurities Nautica had knowing Bracken would never want to be tamed, and Bracken's inability to believe he wanted to be tamed as well, was perfection. But then it all went terribly downhill after that.

I was more than pissed off at the way he up and hauled ass on Nautica after Simon's accident and then finding out about his dad's affair. And to take off and not be heard from again FOR FIVE FRIGGIN' YEARS???? I'm not a fan of multiple years going by before a second chance reuniting. And then Bracken's strange abrupt returning, and everyone okay with him coming back into Nautica's life like he never devastated her in the first place. Totally ruined the believability factor for me. The way Nautica's brother, mother and best friend were instantly in love with him again and pushing Macy to give him a chance, as if she was the bad guy in all of this? No way. Bracken then telling Nautica that he'd been with tons of women since he left her, was totally unnecessary and totally ruined the mood of this story. But then Nautica gives in and begs for no condom between them? Blech. This story could have been so much better. Not sure what happened in this second half of this story. It was like another author decided to write the second half and ruin the rest of it.

The Final Step

I love how this starts with Bracken showing Nautica just how bad of an idea it is for them to be together. 🔥 And I really enjoyed the first two-thirds of them going back and forth, trying - and failing - to stay at arms length.

There's a big turning point where stuff goes wildly wrong. I'm good with that. It's how, with barely any effort, Bracken manages to repair everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that made me pause. Nautica goes from feisty to accepting any table scraps that come her way.

There's also a plot line that feels incomplete. We have the first step and the final step but it felt like there should've been something in between.

This was my first book from this author. I will try again but I just think this wasn't the right match for me. I'm going to round my rating up for the moment but may adjust after I've sat on it a few days.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are Lacey Laurel and Christian Stark. I like both but Lacey sounded a bit older than Nautica's eighteen years.

~ 5 Forbidden Stars ~

Bad for You by Charity Ferrell is her latest Contemporary Forbidden Romance Novel. This story is a standalone and a Brother's Best Friend story.

This was a truly enjoyable read. It is a fairly quick read but it wasn't lacking for anything. Charity was able to give us a story with relatable and likable characters. She created a story that was fun, sexy, and not a lot of drama. Charity has a great ability to give us books that aren't loaded down with a lot of extra stuff we don't need. Her books and writing skill gets better with every book I read by her. She has a fan for life!! I will say that this book was slightly predictable, but she was still able to keep me interested all the way through and she even through in a little shocker that I wasn't expecting. I like when an author can keep me on my toes ;)

In this story we meet Nautica and Bracken. Bracken is Nautica's brother Simon's BFF. Nautica has been in love with Bracken for as long as she can remember and thinks that he doesn't feel the same way. That is until one night Nautica is left by her room mate at a bar and Bracken sees her. Bracken has always looked out for Nautica, but has taken it more seriously now that she is in college and Simon in away in the Army. Bracken is not happy with her being in a bar and makes her hang out with him and his friends. For certain reasons Nautica is unable to go back to her dorm room, so Bracken invites her to stay at his house. So after some drinks and flirting, some lines are crossed. Will Bracken finally admit his feelings for Nautica? What happens when Simon finds out? Well to get the answers to these and other questions, you will need to read the book!!

Bad For You is a stand-alone story, that is told in Dual POV and has a happy ending. The storyline is fun and sexy with a little bit of drama to keep you turning the page. The characters are easy to relate to and aren't struggling with a lot of extra baggage. That's probably the thing I liked the most….these characters weren't broken like we see in a lot of New Adult books these days. Yes there were family issues and yes Bracken was your typical playboy, but this story didn't dwell on those facts. It just felt different to me…hard to explain without spoiling things for the readers.

So if you are a fan of a Forbidden, Friends to Lovers type story than this is a book you should give a try. I have read all of Charity's books and I would not hesitate at all recommending any of them…..they are all fantastic reads!!!! I look forward to what comes next from Charity Ferrell.

4.5 Stars.... Hot, Sexy, Angsty, Beautiful Stars!!!!!!!! May contain minor spoilers so Read with Caution

I was graciously gifted an ARC and was very excited to start this:) I have read a couple of books by this author in the past and have always loved them and this one was no exception. I LOVED both Bracken and Nautica.

Bracken and Nautica were HOT and when I say hot, my panties as well as my Kindle were ready to burst into flames during their perfectly written, sensual and oh so dirty sex scenes.... I couldn't get enough of them!

Their chemistry was off the charts, their relationship, their banter, heck, just about everything between them was perfect. I loved that the author threw in some drama and angst as it added to their very wild ride.

Why not 5 Stars, well, for me personally I am NOT a fan at all of "long" separations between my main characters. Sorry, I hate it!!!! I don't mind a small break if need be, lol, but when its years...that's a no for me.

All in all, a great read. Written very well, flowed seamlessly with great characters including secondary characters and their storylines as well. The sexual chemistry was GREAT and I loved every single second of this couple "together" in and out of the bedroom:)

Great Job Charity Ferrell and Congrats on another great book!!!!!

Written in 1st Person Dual POV.

It started out okay, I like the writing style and the characters. I like the story flow, etc.

The love scene was hot though the last one.. I didn't read it... because...

I thought the story would be like the other novels, same thing, same flow.. then the accident happened.. the guy left... and I loved it! I actually thought he was married to the girl who got pregnant...

I was too disappointed! She forgave him quite fast!!!! So after that... I kind of just breezed through it.

Bad for You by Charity Farrell a five-star read you badly need to read. This is a book for anyone with a big brother, in fact anyone at all, but anyone with a big brother will definitely identify with Nautica Evans, her big brother Simon Evans has always believed no man will ever be good enough for her, especially not his best friend Bracken Casey as he has a history of using women to get what he wants and is known as a commitment-phobe. He’s a hometown playboy that her brother has trusted with to keep her safe and away from boys while she studies at college. As her brother Simon knowns, he won’t ruin the bro code over a girl, would he?
The only thing is her brother doesn’t know that his little sister Nautica has been in love with his best friend for years, and its only grown bigger and stronger as the years wore on, but she has always known nothing will happen. It can’t he’s her big brothers best friend. He doesn’t like her? Does he?
Until one fateful night when he sees her across the bar, ditched by her roomie, who has taken a guy home and told her to make herself scares for a few hours. After a few drinks with him and his roomies, they go back to his place and the only place to sleep is his room, and there is nothing wrong with sharing a bed, as nothing could happen and its more comfortable than the floor, surely. There is a rule that they wouldn’t sleep together as she is his best friends brother. It’s totally against the bro code rules.
But as we all know, rules are there to be broken, and broken they shall be. But as with breaking any rules there are always consequences, will they be able to deal with the outcome of the consequences? Or will the consequences to much for them?

Terrible. I hate to be that blunt -but I suffered through almost the entire book. This would have been a DNF before I hit 50%, but I did get a free audio code to review the book and since it wasn't a long book - I kept listening.

First of all - since I am reviewing the audio portion, this was just not good. The female narrator has a HORRENDOUS male voice. I cringed almost every single time she starting talking in her masculine tone. It basically ruined the entire book for me. Usually I can overlook a bad narrator to an extent if the book itself is compelling but nope.

Second of all - the book and content. It was awful. It started out good as a brothers best friend forbidden romance. The climax of the story - brother finding out - is usually what I look the most forward to. That part was good and then it went downhill fast. Bracken, the MMC, a horrible human being. I can forgive a lot of book boyfriends for A LOT of really terrible things but dude just up and left her for 5 years for seemingly NO REASON. Ugh. I can't even handle how much a hated this plot.

And then we have the main female who forgave him ENTIRELY TOO EASILY. She didn't even make him work for it. So we have a bad plot and THEN THE CHEESIEST END. There wasn't really anything I liked about this book.

If you want a quick easy, smutty read; this is it. I don’t know what I was expecting in this book because I love to go in blind when starting something new… but it hooked me from the prologue. Nautica is the FMC who has been in love with her brothers best friend since she was 11… fast forward to her now being 18 she’s still as obsessed and hooked on him all these years. In her POV we see how much of an ass he is and how he can’t stand her and hates her; that he has to look out for her while her brother is training in the military, but as soon as we switch to his POV second chapter in we see he’s equally as obsessed. Swoon. Can’t touch her, can’t have her, forbidden best friends sister romance, age gap all of that!

I loved how spicy and intense it was! How irresistible both characters were to each other. They were sneaking around and that was great… however not a fan of third party break ups and miscommunication!!! This had me crying and then mad when the grovelling came around just because I knew I couldn’t forgive like that if I was in her place.

I feel like it was quite immature the way they acted in the last 15% of the book… if they had communicated and been open and been able to talk about their feelings and commitment the break wasn’t necessary; however I can understand how that time apart was needed for growth and maturity to sprout… but it sucked. My lash extensions are now crusty from the crying HAHAH not a fan

But I liked it! A quick easy read in between choosing my next read and recommend it either way. I wasn’t as mad or disappointed, I did like it

Oh the RAGE! The ragest of ragey rages!!!! What the actual FUCK? Never since "Bound to you" have I wanted a FMC to end up with someone different than the MMC! First of all, this book is ENTIRELY mislabeled. This should be a second chance romance. No where in the blurb do they allude to the fact that MMC is going to GET ANOTHER GIRL PREGNANT and cut off all communication with the FMC for 5 FUCKING YEARS!!! So much is unacceptable about that! The brother of the FMC finds them together and leaves in a rage and ends up in a serious accident. The wishy washy to begin with MMC decides this is a sign they shouldn't be together, breaks up with her after ONE DAY of commitment in the PARKING LOT of the ICU while her brother is in critical condition and just dips out on her. She doesn't hear from him or see him for a week. She goes back to college and forces her way into the house to talk to him and when she gets to his room, he has another girl there who is holding a pregnancy test and he yells at the FMC and tells her she shouldn't be there! Then he lets her walk out, she tells his best friend he has a week to call or she's done and what does he do? He changes his phone number and cuts off all contact with the FMC, his best friend who is in the ICU, and his dad and does a runner for 5 YEARS! He only comes back because his dad died and suddenly he just wants to get the old band back together and pick up where he left off! Honestly, I didn't think there was much he could do to redeem himself at this juncture, but I was kind of in shock, so I kept reading. Apparently, everyone had amnesia or didn't understand the passing of time and his offense was treated like he'd been gone for 5 months, not 5 YEARS! His best friend who he cut off all contact with after left him in the ICU and proved him 100% right that he was a commitment-phobic POS, forgave him after one little conversation and even tried to set him back up with sister whose heart he broke in half and abandoned. Everyone did! Everyone acted like "Oh, he's not a bad guy, he's just stubborn and it took him some time" There is no WAY! The one possible thing I thought he could do to maybe sort of redeem himself is if he hadn't had sex with anyone else that whole 5 years and held out for her. So when he asks her how many men there have been since him, I'm holding out hope that this is it, this is where he redeems himself. Ha! Hahahaha! So after the FMC tells him there's only been 1, she says sarcastically "I'm not even going to ask you because I know it's more than one" and this motherfucker has the balls to say "You're right, I want to be open with you. I fucked a lot of other women, but none of them meant anything to me like you did" Seriously? That's what you're going with? In your day long relationship? He doesn't understand why she doesn't seem to appreciate this response 😂😂😂 At this point, I knew without a doubt the author and I were not at all on the same page about acceptable behavior in a man and there was nothing else that would redeem him so is skimmed the rest of the way through the book and found it every bit as disappointing as I predicted. So much rage!

3.5 Naughty Stars.

First off, let me just say I'm in love with the names! Unique names always get to me, and these sets were no exception! :D

Falling for your brother's best friend always had that air of forbidden-induce aspect. And I for one always jump at anything forbidden - especially sibling's best friend :D I was anxious for the read the moment it popped up, all the more so when I received a copy *__*!

I've always been a fan of Ms. Ferrell since reading Beneath Our Stars. Always told myself that no matter what, she's an insta-read. I've enjoyed all of her books without fault, raved and freaked out without a care. I still go back and read parts of Karma and wait for the time that story will continue. *hint hint*

Which is why, it sucks knowing that this read isn't particularly my favorite.

The concept was really good but the execution didn't do it. I didn't quite feel the love between them, or the connection to be exact. I also cringe from all the cussing. Which, knowing me - with my cussing prone mouth is shocking. But some things that were said would have been better related if the absence of fuck wasn't there. At times, all that cussing made the characters sound stupid. Also couldn't get past the reference of sex being fuck or fucking or just...the crudeness when it came to someone they're suppose to care for or even love. Even when they made up and I'd essentially see it as making love, it was referred to as fucking. >-<

Bracken, to me, was a douche. His filthy talk - I hated it more than I liked it.
Nautica was okay, but she wasn't suppose I particularly felt anything for, and being an MC shouldn't flow like that.

Her brother was a tad bit too much. At first I got by with the older brother, protective ways but overtime it became annoying.

I seriously knew from the start who the girl was that Simon hung out with! I knew it! Boom! lol

And when everything came to light? That angst moment had me blazing up! It was so rewarding because all the dragging of their feet? I did not want things to go smoothly for either of them, and I got what I wanted lol.

Bracken and Nautica's sex scenes were hot - especially the office sex ;). They were indeed on fire. And the player in Bracken, his sneaking around and conflicting feelings when it came to his best friend, that I felt and understood. Especially feeling as if he used that as a cop out seeing as he was all commitment-phobic.

Overall, this was an okay read.

It's not enough to turn me away from the author's work. Can't always have it all my way right? I'm still gonna be looking forward to your other reads Ms. Ferrell :D

Bad For You by Charity Ferrell is an older brothers’ best friend story which some find taboo especially if said older brother counts on the best friend to watch out for her while he is away serving his country.

Bracken Casey is by all accounts the resident playboy, both in the town they are from and at college. He has no desire to be tied down and he doesn’t do girlfriends.

Nautica Evans has been in love with Bracken forever. Bracken never gives her any indication that he feels anything other than those “little sis” feelings for her, yet Nautica still has hope that someday, just someday, Bracken will open his eyes and see that she is right for him. Bracken on the other hand will never, ever tell her that he thinks about her all the time.

Until one night with too many drinks and too much fun leads to a kiss, one that leads to oh so much more, very hot more. Now they know they need to try to stay away from each other, but they are not remotely successful. Nautica is convinced that her brother’s rules are meant to be broken, but breaking them might lead to other broken relationships.

My heart broke so many times reading this story. It took a tragedy to break everything wide open and a tragedy to break them up. Will another tragedy prove to bring them back together?

I was ambivalent with Nautica’s childish behavior at first, but as the story went on, my heart broke and I had tears for her and as I saw her grow into a young adult, I saw her strength. Bracken on the other hand was supposed to be older, more mature and he eventually drove me crazy with his own childish behavior before finally coming into his own as well.

All in all, I thought it was well written and has most of what I look for in a good story.

0.5/5 - Some spoilers ahead

Bad For You is very aptly name because that is exactly how I felt about this book after reading it. Bracken and Nautica were EXHAUSTING to read about. And theres not a even a hint of exaggeration when I state that claim. Obviously Bracken is your typical bad boy whose body count list could rival the the length of the Great Wall of China. Of course the ever so naive idiot Nautica just laps it up like he’s an oasis in a desert.

Everything about Bracken just screamed WRONG and honestly I can’t say Nautica didn’t earn that heart break considering she knew who she was going out with. Then of course years later and they reunite somehow and Bracken is all of a sudden up to the task of winning back the girl he broke. Class act by the way to mention the many women you slept with while trying to win the one you supposedly “love” back.

If I can leave you fellow readers with an excerpt that perfectly sums up the mess that is the ML of this book it’s the following:

“Sure I’ve given my d*ck to other women, but l’ve never handed over my heart.”

Such a precious gift to all womankind.

Oh my lanta! Hot. H. O. T. Hot hot hot. Charity Ferrell is a new to me author and let me tell you, she absolutely did not disappoint. Her story of Nautica and Bracken in Bad For You is absolutely amazing. I could not put it down and had to know what happened. Took everything I had not to skip pages!

Nautica Evans is a college freshman who has been crushing on her older brothers best friend for years. How could she not, he's freaking gorgeous. She tries to experience college and play with the freedom she has, but her brother has made that increasingly difficult her whole life. "Never fall for your brothers best friend." That seems like sound advice, don't you agree? But it's not always that easy, now is it? Forbidden fruit is always the one you want.

Bracken Casey, the stud from down the street, has made it clear that he has no interest in Nautica, except that he does. But she's off limits. Simon, her brother, would murder him if anything happened between them, or anyone else for that matter. Bracken is not the best when it comes to women. He is all for the casual hook-ups and keeping his freedom.

Bracken takes on the job of watching Nautica at the college they both go to. He keeps her out of trouble and away from sleezy jerks who just want the goods. Until he's that sleezy jerk.

One hot, steamy, sexy night later aaaand boom, their worlds are coming apart around them. One time turned into two, and they just cannot seem to keep their hands to themselves. This should not be happening but if it shouldn't then why does it just feel so good.

Will this amount to anything other than a casual hook-up? Can Nautica control herself, or will she give in time and time again? Will Simon find out? Does Bracken have a heart, or will crap hit the fan and he loses his best friend and a girl he's had feelings for? You need to read this book. It will not disappoint.

***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****

I’ve read or listened to several Charity Ferrell books so this one surprised me a bit… and not really in a good way. Here we have a story of Bracken and Nautica. They’ve known each other pretty much all their life. We have an older brother’s best friend manwhoring storyline that also, later, includes a bit of second chance romance. I’m usually down with everything here but manwhoring does get on my nerves a bit but I can deal with it for everything else. What I really struggled with though is the immaturity oozing from Bracken and Nautica not having much of a backbone. I struggled. My real rating is really between 3.25 and 3.5 stars. I think if Nautica had been a strong-willed woman that has some fierceness and some feistiness, I would have loved this storyline.

I will say that the banter and chemistry between the characters was strong. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. I do think the 5-year break was needed since they both needed to grow and mature a bit more. However, maybe it should have been longer for them to both be strong and confident. The writing is typical Ferrell story-telling. She definitely knows how to pace a story and when to input conflict and those sexy-scenes. These two were pretty hot together. The narration by Lacey Laurel and Christian Stark didn’t really hit the mark for me either. I generally enjoy Laurel’s narrative but she seemed too old to play Nautica or, like I said earlier, Nautica needed to mature a bit more. I with Laurel hadn’t tried to do a male voice for Bracken because it misses the mark and was a bit cringy every time she did the voice. Stark was a fine narrator.

Bad for You is not the first book that I have read by Charity Ferrell and this book reminds me why. While this book is like the typical brother’s best friend book that you have read in the past, you can’t help but fall for these characters.
Nautica has been in love with Bracken since she was a little girl even before she knew what the soul consuming love she felt even meant. But he is her older brother’s best friend. The one time that she opened up to Bracken, he turned her down flat and she has never really recovered. So while she is out trying to have a good night, who walks in but the one man that can make her want so many things, the one man she should avoid if she wants to have a good time.
Bracken sees Nautica at the bar and knows that she should not be there and he is determined to get her out of there but when he finds out she has no where to go for the night he allows her to stay with him and reluctantly allows her to drink with him and his friends for a bit. That is the moment when everything changes. Within months lines are crossed, promises are made, tragedy strikes and unimaginable pain sets in. How will they possible heal from the damage that has been done. Will there be enough shards of their heart’s left to be put back together after this?
I will definitely recommend this book to my friends, and to anyone that enjoys an emotional, quick book that will have you rooting for the couple from page one.

Bad For You had a slightly different feel than the other books I am used to by Charity. The book started off heavy, we dove right into the plot and the sex scenes which is not a bad thing. I loved it, the scenes were hot and made it a very easy read. Both main characters had pretty unique first names, Bracken and Nautica. Nautica’s brother is best friends with Bracken making her completely off limits. The problem with someone being off limits is, even though you know it, your body and mind don’t always get it and they still feel the pull towards that person. As much as Bracken says he can’t be with Nautica, he also can’t stay away from her.

Bracken was a hard character to like. He was a bit of a jerk, he didn’t really think of Nautica’s needs first and at the first sign of trouble, he ran and ran for good. He did get better towards the end of the book and really made up for everything especially with the proposal scene *swoon*. Aside from the typical brother’s best friend who freaks out when he finds out his friend is with his sister, nothing from this book was predictable. I kept being surprised at where the story went.

I really want a book on Simon’s story though. I have a feeling it could be just as sexy as this one was. Charity did such a wonderful job creating a story not just for the main characters but the secondary characters as well. I was just as invested in what happened to them as with Nautica and Bracken. Run and go download this one now!

Bad for You by Charity Ferrell is a second-chance romance, and if there were ever a story about two people who couldn't get out of their own way, this is it. Bracken and Nautica (great names!) are attracted to each other from the start, but Nautica's brother poses a problem. Of course, they lose the fight with their mutual attraction - I mean, was there ever any doubt?
The angst in this one relies pretty heavily on misunderstanding and miscommunication. Honestly, I'm not really a fan of either in romance, but it is what it is. I can't say that I was a big fan of the time that passes either, but it works for this couple and their storyline. Bracken's relationship with his dad broke my heart, and while I'm sure none of us like those particular circumstances, they happen IRL, and I feel like it brought an air of reality to the story. I realize I'm being pretty vague, but I don't want to give everything away.
I listened to this one, and both Lacey Laurel and Christian Stark were new to me. Each of them gives a good performance. Whether it was the strong chemistry or the angst, they bring out the emotion of the story. I was already a Charity Ferrell fan, and that hasn't changed. Now, I'm also a fan of Lacey Laurel and Christian Stark, and I will be looking for their names when I'm scrolling through audiobooks.
