Excellent introduction to CBT. This book is detailed but clear and simple, explains the theory of CBT but enables very practical application. It delves deeply into toxic though patterns, addictions, depression and an opportunity to reassess the past. Importantly it provides a clear road map to handle issues and concerns that we can all suffer and experience. A great practical guide which can be taken off the shelf at anytime and be used to address specific issues. Really useful for practically everyone, even for the people who feel they 'don't need it!!' This is my first experience to a 'Dummies' book, and has convinced me to order more as part of a self development program going forward :)
Excellent simple introduction to CBT. Not soulful or emotive but instead totally grounded in reality. This doesn’t look at severe cases as examples but instead gives practical tips to treat those with mild to moderate mental health issues. I think this is a useful tool for practitioners to use to help patients better understand the CBT process but I’m not sure how easily someone without any knowledge of psychology would be able to work through it alone - they might find it sounds too simple to actually work?
Even though I'd taken behavioural psychology in University and taken CBT myself, having someone guide you through it, even if through a book, is a good reminder to remember your ABCs - activating event + the meaning you ascribe to it = your emotion or behaviour resulting from it. All the defense mechanisms we use are explained and remind us to monitor ourselves and become more reasonable people whom other people and, most importantly, ourselves like better.
