Amuck: Tales From a Hobby Farm

Rate this book
Book 1 in the Amuck seriesOne stubborn, lecherous llama, three alpacas, two miniature horses with outsize personalities, and a passle of chickens—what could possibly go wrong?

Add to the mixture wildlife like raccoons, wild turkeys, a bald eagle, a bobcat, and sprinkle in various rabid critters. Season liberally with several packs of very hungry coyotes and you have the perfect recipe for hobby farm mayhem.

Join Sue as she keeps the wildlife at bay and manages to keep her animals safe from harm, and her sanity fairly intact.

This is a darkly humorous and wonderful story of Sue and her ani-mules.

Very entertaining and also helpful for small hobby farm enthusiasts.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and then you’ll laugh again

I laughed, I cried, I wanted more! Sue Stein chronicles the lives and deaths and the in-betweens of the animals she raises when she moves back to the hobby farm where she grew up. Stein's chapters are hilarious, humbling, and sometimes horrific as she wends her way from fending off amorous wild turkeys to mourning with her animals over the death of an animal family member to protecting her animals in "hand-to-snout" combat with coyotes, raccoons, and bobcats. Just when you think she's about to throw in the trowel full of muck and chuck the hobby farm life for something more glamorous, Stein recovers with a cup of coffee and her dogs on her porch overlooking all that she has and feels at peace...at least until the mini horses escape their pen.

Some sad parts, but far more laugh-out-loud funny. If you think you want a hobby farm, read this first.
