1 star, maybe 1.5

Was that the first draft that somehow got published? Because if so, a little heads up would be nice... Just saying.

Every now and then I get into my harlequin zone because life is sometimes shitty as it is and I need my fluff. And so I found this book, liked the cover and thought "Why the hell not?". I did see the reviews but I don't pay that much attention to those since we all like different things and have different tastes.

However, in this case it wasn't me. It was the book.
Summing up, it's a second chance story between two schmucks who split up 6 years before the story picks up. We know the hero, Marc, kicked the heroine (Isabella) out after he'd discovered that her sticky-fingered father stole from him and he'd thought she was involved.

She was 21 at that time, now she's 27 and suddenly she has her PhD and is a university professor and an expert in diamonds or some other bullshit. All that from having zero education to this in 6 years? How is that even possible?

Oh, and she changed her name legally.
Why? I'll tell you in a sec.

As the story goes on, the two idiots accidentally meet at her uni, argue a little and then meet at some gala (I should mention that she suddenly suffers from social anxiety lol), he gets all jello and alpha when she's with some guy there and so they jump into bed right away. The next morning he still wants her but instead tells her it was a 'goodbye' shag, he wants nothing from her and leaves. She is naturally broken hearted. But not for long.

Marc comes back the same day after his company is accused of using some false diamonds or some other nonsense and he blackmails her to help him clear his name and save the company. He threatens to give her real surname to the press so her career will be finished when they discover who she really is.
So the 'boyfriend of the year' award goes to...?

And so she agrees, they go to Canada, shag like bunnies and after coming back home he gives her the cold shoulder again. But they continue working together, have some breakthrough in their "relationship" (they fucked for 3 days straight so u know, it's SERIOUS!!). May I add that when he found out she was left in the vault alone, he almost shit himself because he was so sure she would steal from him? I was openly laughing at that part because it was all so ridonculous I just couldn't help myself.

But moving on.

After her job is done and she clears his name, it turns out that some diamonds from the vault are missing. Naturally, Marc, being such a great boyfriend, accuses Isa of stealing them, they argue and he kicks her to the curb again and that's when we find out that she was a thief herself. Since she was 9 yo!! LOL!!!

I need to add that she loved stealing and her career as a thief because she loved "the adrenaline" that came with it. She also adds that she didn't steal because she was poor, nope. Her father stole enough so they could all live rich like Croesus. Her, her kids and her grandkids generations, none of them working because daddy dearest thieved enough for all the parasites in the family. And that skank saw nothing wrong with that. No remorse whatsoever. She only worried about her own conniving ass. Bitch, if you like the adrenaline this much, go for a night stroll down the Gratiot Avenue in Detroit. I dare you!!!

Anyways, back to this stupid story.

After a few days he finds out it was an inside job, not Isabella, so he realizes he actually loves her, goes and tells her that and that dumb bitch takes him back in no time.

No grovelling, no nothing.

And for that simple reason I believe these two morons truly deserve each other.

Oh, and we never find out who actually stole the diamonds. And that deserves a slap!

THE END

The entire story did have a potential but like I've already mentioned it feels more like the first crappy draft that you have to pay to read. The writing wasn't my cuppa, too many plot holes, inconsistencies, annoying characters who act like two darn yoyos the entire time, no character development, no nothing. I did finish because it's really short but I'm not planning to read more from this series any time soon.
Sorry not sorry.

ARC received for review

I want to give it four stars, but I just can't. There are way too many unanswered questions at the end. Plus Marc annoyed me. Yes, I forgive you. No, I don't. Yes, I trust you. No, I don't. Isa wasn't much better. I liked how she made a new life for herself, but she was a little too weepy over Marc's actions. I'm guessing all the questions cleaned up in Nic's book.

8 minutes. That's all it took for this to go from 4 stars to 1 star. I was ok with how things were going, it even had some sex in it. Then this heifer not only took him back, but it ends on a cliffhanger. Even if my library had the second book, I wouldn't read it because I'm too pissed off. This contains SPOILERS because trust me, you need them.

This idiot Isabella was raised by her thieving dad to be a diamond thief. She's all cool with that until she falls in love with diamond tycoon, Marc. When she tells her dad she's not going to steal anymore because she fell in love, her dad steals from Marc. She tries to convince her dad to give the diamond back instead of telling Marc what happened right away. So, he has security escort her from his apartment with only the clothes on her back (didn't even give her her purse) in a snow storm.

SIX YEARS LATER

She's teaching at some diamond school, he still hates her but wants to f*ck her. They fall in bed together and then he tells her goodbye now that he has closure. Then someone wants to slander his company and he asks Isa for her help. They have a bunch of sex. Someone steals from him again and he blames her. She's heartbroken. Decides to move on with her life because it doesn't matter what happens, he'll never get past what happened six years ago and he'll never trust her.

FOUR DAYS LATER while still searching for who stole from him, he decides that he just doesn't believe it could be her. He goes to her house and says he's "sorry" and she's like OK LET'S GET NAKED.

WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK?!? Then..... it ends. We don't know who stole the diamonds. He doesn't grovel. All of those realizations she came to about how he'll never trust her - let's just ignore all of that.

Man - f*ck this book. LOL trash.

Very good book with incredible heat and deep emotion. Marc and Isabella had known each other six years before and had been in love. But there were things about Isabella that Marc hadn't known - like that her father was an international jewel thief, and that Isa was also a thief. Marc meant more to Isa than stealing, so she refused to steal from him the way her father wanted her to. But when her father did it anyway, Isa was torn between love for Marc and loyalty to her father. And when Marc found out, he threw her out on the street before trying to salvage his business.

Now Isa has a new name and a new life, teaching about jewels. She's never forgotten Marc, or that she at least partially deserved the hatred and scorn he showed her. When he shows up at the gem institute where she teaches, both of them are stunned to see each other. Marc hasn't forgotten her either, nor the guilt he felt about the way he treated her, though he still believed her responsible for what he went through. One thing that hasn't changed is the passion that flares to life between them. Marc wants one more night with her, hoping for closure, and that he can then move on with his life. But taking that night only makes him want her more, and he says some pretty cruel things in order to protect himself. Then Marc finds out that a newspaper reporter is about to do a story on the business based on false information, a story that will destroy his company.

Now Marc has to go to Isa and grovel, asking for her help. Isa is one of the few people in the world that can verify the truth about the way he runs his company. Isa is wary of helping him because of the way he treated her, but she feels guilty about her actions from six years ago and figures this is a way to make amends. The problem is that she is still so attracted to him that she risks losing her heart to him all over again.

I loved seeing them work together to document the truth, and felt like they were finally getting past their turbulent history. But when something happens that brings that past roaring back, Isa discovers that Marc hasn't really left it behind after all. I felt that he deserved every bit of misery he had after the way he treated her. Though he eventually admits his mistake, I think she should have made him work a little harder for her forgiveness. The book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, as the mystery has not yet been solved. I'm looking forward to the next book and seeing how it all turns out.

I'm only admitting I read this because it's hilariously snarky about De Beers specifically and the diamond industry in general. Apparently trashy romances now apparently contain at least a token sentence about consent so...that's nice.

Lots of ridiculous plot holes though:
- Social anxiety that heroine was initially too shy to mention to old flame - seems logical that "admitting" it would be a turning point for the relationship, yes? Never mentioned again
- Heroine is speculated to have illegally changed her name but has also given up illegal things...never resolved
- Naturally, heroine goes from what appears to be no schooling (except in thievery) to a PhD and some substantial work experience in 6 years (and has to change her name in there).
- lots of tiresome "I'm gonna go for!"/"Nah, stay away" conflict from the heroine. Similarly, lots of "I forgive you!"/"Screw you, no I don't!" from the hero.
- Pretty sure the author did not originally intend the heroine to be a reformed thief and adrenaline junkie - very little time devoted to this and not convincing.
- they never found the thief! Though I suppose that might be dealt with in the sequel

This author has a teen book about vampires releasing on my birthday this year, so I thought I should read a few things by her to get a feel for her writing style. If this book is any indication, her teen book will be fast-paced and steamy. I felt this book was played out a little faster than I would have liked, but that is the nature of this genre. All in all, I liked it. It was a good palette cleanser.

.....have not read a harlequin romance book since my teens. good story line, but wording like this ..."open mouthed kisses against her sex" pg 121, and pg 117 "mouth to mouth, chest to chest, sex to sex" where does the appropriate terminology come into play....maybe the young are too uncomfortable with "standard" dialect for these parts, instead using euphemisms and colloquialisms.
I have to say that I have heard many pet names regarding body parts and sexual situations but "sex" in this context ?? Maybe another pet name would be better. I'm for pet names as an alternative. My opinion take it or leave it. This is my review.
Oh well guess it remains as not my kind of read.

Good story but Isabella and Marc got on my last nerve. Yes she chose her jewel thief father over her boyfriend, but how many times is she suppose to let him disrespect her until he forgives her? Enough already! And then the story ends on a cliffhanger. I am so done! This second book better be really good. "I'm just sayin" lol!!!!!

I immediately read Pursued, Nic's story, because I couldn't believe this story would end without telling who was responsible for the theft of the diamonds. I just knew it would be in the next story BUT IT WASN'T

I am not someone who reviews books that I am rating below 3 stars. And this book is the first to get a 1 star from me in a LONG while. So, I am not writing this review lightly.

I had Tracy Wolff's Crave Series (which seemed like a dark paranormal academia series from the blurb) on my TBR for a while. So, when I had this book available I thought it would give me a taste of her writing while I manage to get my hands on the series.

And a taste I got! The plot has so many holes that it is practically a sieve. The protagonists are characters I absolutely hated. I can not decide who I should give the 'bigger a-hole' award to. Loads of sex and zero chemistry or intimacy.

Atleast it gets over fast.

I'm happy I met Tracy Wolff through Crave because, while this was not a bad book, it didn't make me love the writing like Crave. The pacing in this book seemed also a bit "off" to me, I expected a bit more on the "jewelry thief" side.

I don't believe I'll read the sequel because

This novelette is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, inner dialogues, repetitions, telling and not showing, and loose ends. Also, the main characters are not rational, mature adults. Situations are contrived and illogical. This is the first and last time I read Tracy Wolff; shame on Harlequin for publishing this crappy mess.

This book has an intriguing and interesting plot, which showed that the author did lots of research. The chemistry between the characters is so obvious and hot that it jumps off the page.

This was a short listen via audiobook. It was good except for the cliffhanger which I hope I get to find out in Book 2. I also had an issue with too much of the inner ramblings that there was not much going on.

I didn't like it. Heroine stayed celibate for the 6 years they were seperated, while hero dated/slept with a long line of red heads.

Hero wasn't that nice to heroine outside of bed and yet heroine kept sleeping with him. Np.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 1, 2015

Diamond tycoon Marc Durand knows not to trust his ex-fiancee, Isabella Moreno. Years ago, her father stole Durand gems...and she lied for him. ••••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--CLAIMED is the first installment in Tracy Wolff’s contemporary, adult Diamond Tycoons erotic romance series. This is Diamond Tycoon Marc Durand, and professor Isabella Moreno’s storyline.

Told from dual third person perspectives CLAIMED follows the rebuilding of a relationship between Marc and Isabella. Six years earlier Marc had literally thrown his then fiancée Isabella Moreno to the curb when it was discovered that her father had stolen millions of dollar in diamonds from Marc’s Bijoux Diamond Importers. Betrayed and heartbroken, Marc’s life would never be the same as he struggled to gain some sense of what happened; six years would pass before their paths would cross again, and this time, Marc needed Isabella to prove that his diamonds do not come from illegal sources.

The relationship between Marc and Isabella is a second chance romance but Marc continues to remind Isabella of her past and their history; what she did to betray their love and their trust; and how her father’s betrayal dealt a devastating blow to his diamond operation. Marc’s physical attraction to Isabella is tempered by his emotional outbursts and inability to forgive Isabella for her father’s betrayal. At times, the roller coaster that is Marc Durand was difficult to accept or ignore. His back and forth attitude, and issues of trust were a little bit disconcerting. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense; Marc continues to stake his claim for a woman he is unable to forgive or believe.

CLAIMED is also a storyline that is steeped in diamond mining history and gemology research and information. Tracy Wolff goes into some major detail regarding the mining operations and the certification of the final product. The premise is engaging; the characters are impassioned but at times their issues of mistrust were frustrating; the romance is a tale of seduction mired in betrayal and uncertainty. The storyline ends on a bit of a cliffhanger-there are some major problems that have yet to be resolved.

Second chances that can be a happily ever after that’s if pride doesn’t get in the way.

This is the first book in a new series for Ms. Wolff and it was a great read. This author writes her characters with so much passion, also bringing their story to life. These two characters are going to have to learn to trust each other again that will be the only way for them to have a life together.

Isabella Moreno was in love with Marc Durand and they were supposed to live happily ever after but all that went down the drain when a heist took place. Her father wanted for her to take a gem but she had fallen in love and didn’t want to do it. She left being a thief behind her she didn’t want anything to do with that anymore but then this happened. She was in-between a rock and a hard place because she loved her fiancée but she also didn’t want her father to go to prison. Isabella didn’t let Marc know what she thought her father did and when he did find out he broke off the engagement.

Marc told her to get out of their home but after thinking about things he went to look for her. He couldn’t find her and it has been 6 years since he last saw her and now he knew why. She has changed her name and all those feelings that he felt back them they all came back rushing to him. Only she didn’t want anything to do with him and I couldn’t blame her. He wanted one more night with her and maybe after he had her one more time he could finally move on. Then Marc finds out that a newspaper is about to run a story about how his diamonds are blood diamonds and this could totally ruin the family company. Now he needs to go speak to the woman that he left that morning and basically telling her that he used her and that he needed closure. Marc is going to have to beg and plead in order for her to help him and clear them that they have a legitimate jewel business.

Claimed was an excellent read. The characters were well developed. The pace of this story was perfect but there was only one bad thing and that was the way it ended. I couldn’t believe how it ended but I’m happy to know that Marc’s brother will be getting his own book. The chemistry between these two characters is steamy HOT and passionate.

I know that when I finished reading the end of this book Ms. Wolff left me intrigued about what’s coming up next in her book that is set to be released sometime in October.

REVIEW:  CLAIMED (THE DIAMOND TYCOONS) BY TRACY WOLFF

Claimed by Tracy WolffMy rating: 5 of 5 starsIsa is a good person who has made some bad choices in the past. Trying to move on with her life after a colossal heartbreak, she has been working on becoming a better person. To do this she has had to distance herself from her past. That past is about to catch up with her. Marc has found it hard to trust in recent years due to a betrayal that almost cost him everything. Now back on track, the last thing he expects is to come face to face with his biggest mistake. I received an ARC of Claimed by Tracy Wolff in exchange for an honest review. See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

My Thoughts:

Isa and Marc didn't leave each other six years ago on good terms. Their relationship was shattered when an unfortunate incident occurred involving her father stealing from Marc. They run into each other after all these years and Marc realizes how much he still wants her despite the betrayal. When he finds himself alone with Isa, they kiss... and holy first kiss after six years! *fans self for a minute* She's upset with him for doing that and she gets away from him. Then Marc finds out that someone is trying to claim his company is doing illegal business. To prove those claims wrong, he hires Isa to verify the truth. The close quarters cause their feelings to come back. But will it be for good or just for now?

Claimed is unique and sweet! Isa's former life of being a jewel thief turned legitimate gemmologist really added to the story for me. The romance between them is clear, and you can feel the struggles as they get over the past and trust in a possible future. Very interested in finding out what happens next in The Diamond Tycoons series by Tracy Wolff!

My Rating: Very Good
