Rate this book
For the true tale of terror and tie-dye to begin, the house of monsters must fall!

For generations, the Darksmith family has constructed, concocted, or otherwise created the minions of the world’s most wicked foes. Be they armies of undead warriors or hordes of the most vicious beasts, they all know Darksmith Manor as their birthplace. But one creature, born by the sum of all fears, wanted more than to serve any master. After declaring himself as the rightful heir as the maker of monsters, the creature known as Fear soon found that the Duke & Duchess of Darksmith Manor were about to have their first child.

Will the child be kept safe from the clutches of Fear or will this be the end of the Darksmith family legacy?

Just couldn't get into it - interesting premise, but didn't hold my attention - abandoned about 2/3 of the way through. Didn't care enough to finish the last 20 pages, much less start on 'Lost Tomorrow'. I hoped it would have something of a 'Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' or 'Mort' vibe to it....I should not have had any expectations, I guess...

Beat your fears and see the sunshine

This is a good book for middle school children and the illustrations are fun. No matter what fear is fear but, if you can overcome it you will find the way to smile and to be brave.

Made me wanting more. Fortunately, I got this and the second book at Wizard World Chicago. Both signed! I look forward to reading more of Sunshine's adventures.

Very fast children's short story with illustrations that can easily be finished in one sitting. Briefly, it's about a conflict between Fear and a family known as the Darksmiths that appear to be decent people with a mysterious past. With Fear attempting to devour their newborn daughter Sunshine, the family endeavors to whisk her to safety through the help of Death.

The plot was fairly standard with decent illustrations. I'm not entirely sure what is happening between the two factions, but I imagine more is revealed in other stories.

Great introduction into the backstory of Sunshine, Fear and the world the story is set in. I loved the mix of story and illustrations. The characters and backstory are set up well in this story. Based on this story, I am very intrigued in following Sunshine and the mystery surrounding her and her family in book one.
