Five years after her beloved husband's death, Kate Stone suddenly learns that it was no accident. Instead, due to a chance encounter with a psychic, she discovers that it was a full-on, calculated, cold-blooded murder. Initially, Kate rejects the idea. How could Michael possibly have been murdered? All of the evidence surrounding his death suggests that it was an accident. Enter Ben Cade, the first love of Kate's life--a man she hasn't seen in sixteen years. Now a former SEAL turned private investigator, Ben agrees to help Kate learn the truth. Soon, the love they once shared for each other begins a slow simmer—just as chaos ignites around them as twists, turns, death threats and deceptions abound. "A Dangerous Widow" is a thrilling, harrowing story of romantic suspense from #1 internationally best-selling author Christina Ross, whose books have sold more than a million copies worldwide. This is Christina Ross at her best!
Christina Ross began writing on nights and weekends while working as an intern for an international, iconic fashion magazine. After eight years, she left that position as an editor. Many of Christina's narratives reflect her background as an insider in the world of fashion.
Now, with a successful fashion career behind her, Christina divides her time between her apartment on Park Avenue in Manhattan and her new home along the coast of Maine. Christina loves spending quality time with her girlfriends in both locations. A lifelong animal-lover, Christina's favorite charity is the ASPCA, to which she encourages all her readers to contribute.
A Dangerous Widow is a romantic suspense with a second chance love story. Kate is very happily married to Michael, owner of StoneTech. The story starts off with a beautiful scene between Kate and Michael as she supports her husband’s decision to back out of a last minute deal to sell StoneTech. Hours later Kate is informed of Michaels “accidental” death.
I’ll admit, the beginning had me bawling like a baby. The author did a great job of portraying Kate and Michael’s love in just the prologue alone. Chapter one takes you 5 years into the future where Kate finds out from a psychic that her husband’s death was not an accident. She learns from the psychic that she needs to reconnect with her high school sweetheart, Ben, who is a private investigator to learn the truth behind Michaels death. While this is a second chance romance, the story focuses more on Ben and Kate working together to find her late husband’s murderer. The attention has brought danger to Kate and you will learn just why the author named this book Dangerous Widow.
If you read the Annihilate Me series, you will see a few familiar people in this story. This was a standalone but it looks like there will be more in the series. I’m looking forward to more from Christina Ross!
ARC received from Author in exchange for an honest review.
Again, Christina Ross hits a home run! I’m not telling you anything about this book, except READ IT!! You’ll be glad you did. The characters were excellent, the storyline great and keeping you on the edge of your sea t the best.
This was suspenseful and a great read. I loved the storyline and the way it was told. I would recommend this book and as always I love Christina Ross work so I'm a little bias. I can't wait for more of this series.
A real second chance romance with a whopping suspense story attached. Kate Stone is a young widow, having lost her husband after a tragic accident. Her husband Michael had built a tech company from the ground up and made it incredibly successful. At a moment when the company was to merge with another tech company, Michael backs out of the deal at the last minute, unsure of the potential for improvement or growth in the new firm.
Shortly after, Michael falls down the stairs in their home, having been knocked over by their dog. Kate immediately sells Michael's company off and becomes a philanthropist. Working for the Red Cross, she raises millions for multiple causes. Her best friend Laura takes her out one day and they visit a psychic named Rhoda (I know, this is the part that doesn't fit with romantic suspense)!
Rhoda gives Kate a lot of information, not the least of which is that her old boyfriend Ben Cade is in Manhattan and that she needs to contact him. Rhoda proves herself to be authentic in many ways and Kate, while skeptical, takes Rhoda's advice.
The story moves very quickly and the danger from Kate's actions pops up almost immediately. Two hair-raising episodes occur before the story becomes clear. Well done.
This is the story of Michael & Kate. Michael owned his own multi-billion dollar company and has partners, and made encryption software he’d written and perfected. He was going to sell his company, but changed his mind at the signing. Kate was senior vice president for Bank of America in Manhattan. She leaves for work, but two hours later, she finds out he had a fall and died.
Five years later, this is the story of Ben & Kate. Kate is now the Director of Corporate Gifts at the Red Cross in Manhattan. She also started the Stone Foundation, which was for Michael, her deceased husband. Ben is a private investigator. He was also her first love. Information has come to light that Michael was murdered. So, she hires Ben to investigate. Now it's time to avenge his death. It’s surreal to have two great loves in one lifetime. This story is full of suspense, mystery, and steamy love. I love Christina Ross’ writing, and I love the Annihilate Me books and series. She is an exceptional writer. I cannot wait for more of her work to come out.
Kate Stone loved Michael her husband dearly after his untimely death, Kate discovers through a psychic that he was murdered! She hired a Private Investigator named Ben Cade an ex Navy Seal, he also just happened to her High School sweetheart! There is lots of intrigue, mystery, steamy, sexy and a hot romance! Recommend with a 5 Stars rating
Murders, assassins and back stabbing friends and Kate is out to avenge her deceased husband. Ben comes into the picture. He is her first love and now a private investigator. They are on a trail of danger. Hopefully with Rhoda’s guidance all will end well. Exciting book to read. Both characters well written. The secondary characters were great too, especially Rhoda.
To date I have read each book in the Annihilate Me and Unleash Me series. With A Dangerous Widow, Ms. Ross has done it again.
I especially like that characters overlap in all 3 series and I sincerely hope that we, Ms. Ross's faithful readers, will get to experience more of Kate and Ben.
I adore this series and tho it’s not directly about our favourite couple it does have them in it and those we’ve come to love alongside them. Full of drama and intrigue. Loved Ben and Kate together. Can’t wait to read the next book
This is a great suspense filled story that's is a spin off of Annihilate Me! I lied how it appears to be its own book, but with enough of the series included to attached it. Great read!
I believe I am almost done with all of the books connected w Annihilate Me and I am in love w the characters! The romance within is beautiful! The danger is so suspenseful! It's been hard for me to stop reading! I truly hope there is more to come!
4.5* Couldn't put this one down..it was more fast paced then her last couple books. Perfect mix of romance and suspense and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. Small appearances from some of our favorite annihilate characters as well.
I love your Annihilate Me series and could not wait to read this one. Boy was I in for a surprise. This is a non stop read that gets you from the first chapter. I am glad Kate got her answers but really happy she and Ben got their forever after. This is a must read - I highly recommend it.
A Dangerous Widow captivated me immediately from the first through the last page. It is a mixture of tragedy, pain, action, suspense and danger as well as laughter and love. The story is fast paced with a number of unexpected twists and turns, and ended without a cliff hanger which I really appreciated.
Ms. Ross introduces us to a strong, fierce, sexy, mature 35 year h who is so three dimensional and very likable. Additionally we meet Ben, one hell of an alpha, and a number of great secondary characters. I loved the reappearance of "friends" from many of the authors other books ("Annihilate Me", Ignite Me"). I love that Ms. Ross is able to make her books connect through bringing characters from other books into the current book but in such a way that you are not lost if you have not read the other books. However the current book is richer for that connection and especially so if you have read the other books.
Ms. Ross gives her all in her books. She creates interesting and enduring characters that quickly become "friends". She excels at character development.
On the whole I liked the story but thought the relationship between Kate and Ben moved to fast to be believable and no time was given to growing that relationship. One minute she is deeply in love with her dead husband, in the next she is in bed with Ben and then in a day or two deeply in love with Ben. So not believable. Additionally I got beaten to death with the phrase "going forward" to the extent that I hope I never see it again. For those reasons I rated the story at 4 and gave it a sexy rating of 2.5. Ms. Ross is capable of writing scenes with great sexual tension and creating very sensual, sexy scenes but just didn't do that in this novel. I hope that will change.
I definitely hope this will turn into another series and that we will see the next book in the very near future.
I was privileged to receive an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I had this book on my kindle since it came out because I had it on pre-order before it was actually even released. I didn't even read what it was about, before ordering it because Ms. Ross is definitely one of my go-to authors! First off, I didn't realize that it was tied into her Annihilate Me Series and I did not know that she was coming out with another book in the Annihilate Series called Annihilate Them! So we I seen Annihilate Them release and realized that this book had ties in the series I had to read this before I moved on to the newest release. And of course, Ms. Ross did not disappoint! This book, just like all of her books in the series was brilliantly written! The story line in itself was amazing and it was written with such fluidity and grace. It flowed so nicely and never once did it ever feel as if were going to stall out nor did it ever feel forced. Alot of stories will start out great and after about 8-9 chapters they kind of lose steam and a reader can lose interest but that has never been the case with any of Christina's books that I have read and it certainly didn't happen in this book. The character development was also well-written and I was really able to connect with the H and h in this story even though they were complete strangers to me. I think after the 5th or 6th chapter I already felt a connection to them. This book pretty much has it all and would certainly appeal to readers of a wide variety of genre out there. It had, mystery, suspense, humor, romance...along with some action and adventure. I was completely glued to the book from the very start. Now I can't wait to dive into her next book as soon as I finish up a couple ARC commitments I have. Thank you so much Ms. Ross for sharing your God-given gift with us. It's books like yours that have helped me through some very tough times in my life and have helped me to persevere. Thank you.
How can you not love this book! So much drama and suspense and faithful, dutiful love, and with that comes broken hearts and devastating loss. Kate lost the love of her life...what else is she going to lose? Can she fave the inevitable?
Kate lost her husband in a tragic accident. What do you do when you lose the love of your life? You learn how to fix your broken heart..this is a life changing event. How do you get on with your life? You focus on how to live day by day, and Kate is successful in her journey. But can you have a happy ending? Can you be happy, I mean truly happy and live a new different life?
You always remember your first love..some may say that you will always love them due to that person being the first of everything for you. Ben is that person for Kate, just like she is for him. It's undeniable that there is chemistry between them, but being that everything that's going on is it the right time for them?
There's a killer on the loose, and Kate is being daring and precise in her resolve to figure out what happened to Michael. Ben is the ex-navy seal and current private investigator who is helping her. If you've read Ignite Me, then you get to see some of the people you've already met, and some older friends that we all love!! That was awesome for sure. But can the secret of what happened to Michael end others lives? Or will things be revealed?
I really enjoyed this book. I'm hoping there's more to come for these characters in the future. Ever worthy of 5****.
I have just put down A Dangerous Widow and what an intense, brilliant read.
I’ve read all of Christina’s books to date, but for me, this book stands out. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I got a lot more than I had bargained for! This for me had a thriller/mystery element to it, which made it so different. There is still a love story, but this book was so much more!
The story centres mainly on Kate and Ben as they delve into the circumstances of how Kate’s husband was killed some years earlier. We see several other characters from the Annihilate Me, Unleash Me and Ignite Me series, which I absolutely loved. I love when an author can make their books all connect, as you become so familiar with the characters. I have to say, Barbara Blackwell is one of my all time favourite fictional characters!!
As usual Christina’s writing for me is spot on. Your imaginative juices are flowing from the get go, as through her brilliant writing the characters all come to life. You cannot stop turning the pages when you begin this book, so I suggest you set aside a chunk of time to read it!
A Dangerous Widow had me laughing at parts, my stomach dropped on several occasions and I don’t think I have any nails left after finishing the book. All the emotions this book evoked verify the brilliance of this author! If you’re looking for a love story with a bit of a difference, I most certainly recommend you give this book a read!!
I first have to say I love Christina Ross's Annihilate Me series and I was thrilled when she announced her new book going in a new direction. I was even more thrilled when I loved it.
Kate lost her husband in the most unexpected way. After believing for years that it was just an unfortunate accident her best friend takes her to see Rhonda (yes that Rhonda for those avid Christina readers) a psychic who tells Kate that her husband was murdered. This sets Kate on a mission to find her husbands killer and in the process reunites her with her first love Ben who is private investigator who she hires to help her.
Ben a former Navy Seal hasn't seen Kate for 16 years but as soon as he steps back into her life he knows that he needs to protect her at all cost. He just hopes he can.
This is a fast moving story that has things you have come to expect from this author, the glamour, romance and great suspense. We get to see old friends and meet new ones which is something Ms Ross is great at. The dialog was well written between the characters which I enjoy. If I have one issue it would be that I wanted to know more about Kate and Ben's back story, I wanted to know more about their love and why it ended.
All in all another great story, can't wait for more about Ben and Kate.
I don’t know how Christina Ross comes up with such fabulous stories, but I am grateful she does and that she is so incredibly talented and is willing to share them with us. Once again she has written a book with characters you will fall in love and an exciting story that you will not be able to put down until you finish the book. This time you will meet Michael and Kate Stone, a couple totally in love and unaware that their future is about to change in a traumatic way. After a sweet kiss goodbye when Kate heads to work, Michael “accidentally” dies and Kate’s world is changed forever.
Move forward five years, a chance visit to a psychic with good friend Laura, and Kate is told that Michael’s “accidental death” is anything but. To add to the intrigue, Kate’s first love Ben, a former Navy Seal and now a private investigator, is the key to finding out who killed her beloved husband.
The journey for Kate, reconnecting with Ben to learn the truth about Michael’s death and a second chance at romance grabs you from minute one. Add some interaction with friends we have all come to love, Blackwell and Jennifer Wenn and you are now captivated and involved with the story until it all comes to an exciting and powerful ending.
I hope this is a beginning to a new series because I want more.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
How far would you go to avenge the death of you soul mate? A Dangerous Widow is a heart stopping, soul wrenching, suspenseful, mysterious and a second chance romance story. Kate was married to the love her of her life five years ago. She and Michael had a love like no other, and she was the luckiest woman in the world. Then one day it was all gone, Michael was dead. Going on with her life was hard, but after five years of his death she was finally ready to move on. Then she's told by a psychic that Michael's death was not an accident at all. Determined to find the person behind his murder, Kate reaches out to her first love, an honored Navy Seal and now private investigator, Ben. Together they will not stop until the person responsible is brought to justice. Working so closely, Ben and Kate find that the love they shared years ago is still alive. A second chance in love. Danger lurks in every corner, but Kate is relentless. Will Kate be the next victim? Can Michael's death be avenged? Who is behind this all? This was my first Christina Ross novel, and I was very pleased with her writing and story telling. Great job Christina! I was given an ARC for an honest review.
I received this book as an ARC for a honest review. Once again, Christina Ross has proven to me why I must read all her books, which I have, and some of them more than once. This book was very suspenseful and romantic. Ben and Kate were a couple to be reckoned with. Their love for each other many years before they drifted apart, and their love for each other when she contacted him for help came forth again. Kate was very much in love with her first husband, Michael. And there was nothing taken away from that love in this book, which I thought was very well written! I am not one to give any spoilers, but if you have not read this book, pick it up and read it. And if you have never read any of Christina's books, Annihilate Me series, Unleash Me series, you don't know what you are missing. Christina Ross's books are on the top of my list always......and they all should have higher than just 5 stars!!
I received an ARK in exchange for an honest review. Wow, what an awesome book. Once I started I did not want to put it down. Where she comes up with all of these stories is beyond me. I do love how she keeps intertwining the stories and people from previous books. Although you don't have to read them all, the Annihilate Me, Unleash Me, and Ignite Me Series, bits and pieces continue to ebb and flow throughout all of the story lines. But again, you do not have to read them all. I will say though that when you start one book, you can't help but reach for the next to see where the story continues. And when you finish the last one in the series, you can't wait for her to write and publish another book to see where she will take you next. If you like suspense with a love story, you will love this books. I'm glad Christina added a little bit more of Rhoda in this book, but can't wait for Rhoda to get her own full length story.
I was graciously given a digital copy of this book by Christina Ross for an honest review. From the very first chapter I was hooked, that usually never happens when I begin a book! Kate Stone becomes a widow at a young age when it appears her husband has an unfortunate accident that takes his life. When Kate receives news that his death may not have been an accident she turns to Ben Cade, her former love & PI, to help her investigate. She finds herself in constant danger when the press finds out that she is investigating a potential murder. It is up to Ben to keep her safe and try to win back her heart. I love the title of the book, it is so fitting for different reasons. Kate was a wonderful heroine; I felt that she grew as a person throughout the book and became so much stronger, which I love in a character. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery.
WOW ...Loved this book, was hard to put down once I started reading, the characters were well thought out, the story line was well written and I loved reading it and the cameo's from Blackwell, Bernie etc was just awesome!! You have done it again Christina you never let your readers down you are definitely one of my favourite authors and I cant wait for the next instalment you bring out .... eeekkk so excited!! LOVE LOVE LOVE would deffo recommend this book and you don't need to read the Annihilate me series(including Unleash Me Series which is the books in-between Annihilate me 1 & 2) to read this but I would deffo recommend you do because its just such an awesome read that everyone should have on their reading bucket list!! Again great read Christina .... but to be fair I expected it to be from past books
Michael is Kate's love of her life. They started with nothing but Michael is a genius in encryption technology which could be their downfall. Ben was Kate's first love but a chance encounter with a psychic changed everything Kate believed and led her to back to Ben. Can he keep her safe after Kate reveals suspicions to the press ... Will they survive the fallout? Who are her enemies? Suspense, romance, revelations wrapped up in a story from one of my favourite authors, another good read stemming from the Annihilate series.
I was offered this ARC book for a true and honest review. For me this author never disappoints and therefore recommend this book. Looking forward to more in this series.
Christina Ross is one of my "go to" authors. I know her books will be fast paced, have interesting characters, and keep you on your toes from start to finish. A Dangerous Widow is no exception. Not many people get a second chance to love deeply, but Ben and Kate do, and though the circumstances are horrific, they make it. You can feel their passion for one another and that is a rare gift from the author. Christina is one whose books I read a second and third time, and there are only 4-5 authors that share that. I have read every one of her books and am never disappointed.... except for not wanting the story to end. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and more from the Annihilate Me series.
I loved this book couldn't put it down. When Kate's husband Micheal dies from an accident she is left devastated. After five years had passed Kate and her best friend Laura went to see Rhoda the psychic and was in shock to find out that Micheal's death might have been a murder and not an accident. Rhoda told her to contact Ben Cade who happened to be Kate's first love and who happened to be a private investigator. Rhoda tells Kate that her life is in danger sooner rather than later. Ben tells Kate not to go to the charity ball, but Kate doesn't listen and then she regrets going when someone gets killed. When Kate is at home she opens the door expecting her friends, but she is surprised who she sees and who she tells her who sent her to kill her.
