Crimes Canada #12

Clifford Olson: The Beast of British Columbia

Rate this book
Eleven children between the ages of nine and eighteen-years-old were abducted, raped, sodomized and either strangled or knifed to death. Clifford Olson was not only a serial killer, but a true psychopath. And once again, the Canadian government made a deal with the devil, as they did with Karla Homolka and Dr. Shirley Turner. Olson held the location of the bodies for ransom and was paid $10,000 for each burial site.

This is a definitive, intense and graphic account of Olson and the eleven kids he murdered.

This is the 12th book in the monthly publication in the Crimes True Crimes That Shocked The Nation collection by Dr. Peter Vronsky and RJ Parker.

Heartless child killer

This story should qualify as a horror story. Clifford Olson was a monster, the kind that gives one nightmares.

Olson raped and killed children and teenagers without pity, without remorse, without conscience. After he had tossed away their small battered bodies, the search was on for the next victim.

Ms. Broderick has captured the fear and horror that surrounded this serial killer and his young victims, whose families he continued to torment.

Pretty much an expanded version of his Wikipedia page- a few article sources thrown in, but very lazy writing for such a massive story. Very disappointing.

Despicable and Depraved
This was a very frustrating book to read. Clifford Olson was a sexual predator from an early age known to police, other authorities, family, and friends for his narcissistic behavior and controlling nature. Yet despite his many criminal acts and incarcerations he was allowed to escape prosecution or plead down to lesser charges. He was a menace to society yet he was set free to commit more sexual assaults against teens and other youth. People covered up for him. He kept going back to the same places to commit his crimes.

Why was there so much opposition to surveillance on a known creeper? Why did people help him? I didn't hear about the newspaper coverage of the crimes attributed to him. He was in a relatively small area that word of mouth along with media could have alerted people to his ruse. Warn teens to not accept rides from strangers. Olson was a Beast and bribing authorities to find the bodies was reprehensible. It's still a good true crime book with cautionary notes for law enforcement and parents.

Illustrates the almost unbelievable creepy banality of a middle-aged, chubby schmuck who just happens to rape and strangle little boys and girls.
I worked beside one of the victim's parents throughout the duration of Olsen's serial depredations. Strangely, my coworker never talked about his lost son, just kept his head down.
I imagine there was sturm und drang at home.
To think this monster walked amongst us in my community for years before being apprehended! Hard to take.

What a monster

Never heard of this guy, he was horrid! Spent 50 years incarcerated, but the 21 years he was out, did much damage. May he rot in Hell.

Another Great Book by Elizabeth Broderick

Clifford Olson was a child molester also known as a "Skinner" as well as informed also known as a "rat". Based on this he was provided with protection as he was a target for other inmates. While in prison he was stabbed with scissors and a gang of inmates beat and kicked him with the intent of killing him. He did not have normal childhood, he molested his sister and did not a relationship with his other sibling or father. Yet he was very close to his mother. He claimed to have been molested and raped by his uncle but his wife believed he had actually been abused by his father. This may the reason why Olson became a pedophile. He would threaten girls to let him molest them as he would use a knife. He imprisoned his girlfriend and abused her. He was also a thief, swindler and con artist. His mother would hide his behavior from his mother to avoid the abuse he would endure had he found out. He appears to always be protected yet none his victims were. A great book regarding the life of Clifford Olsen, witty many details that will shock you. A great read!!!!

True crime stories

Ms. Broderick has written a cogent and detailed account of a monster I have never heard of, and think it possible Olsen killed in the United States, is speculated in the book. I like the publishers stated treatment of manuscripts and their policies. I intend to read all of this series and more from Elizabeth Broderick's published books. I was very interested in reading about Canadian law. We, in the United States, have also experienced law enforcement agencies and officials confusion about serial killers. I live in Washington State near Seattle, and experienced the horrors that Bundy inflicted on his many victims. And the " Green River killer was an absolute nightmare that took so many years to solve and convict Gary Gilmore. When it became known that this puny truck painter, married with children , held down his job for years , and cut a deal so all his victims bodies would be found . Sometimes it doesn't work out the way it should but at least he is incarcerated . So thank you for these published true crime stories and I'm looking forward to reading more of them .

Kinda slow compared to others in this series. They should stick with more established writers.
