We fell in love in a lightning strike, a sudden anomaly in a sea of lost people.
He knew right away, yet I was hesitant. I could have never prepared myself for a love like ours.
No one could.
As a child, I had conjured an amazing story in my mind. It was a story I could retell about a man that would move me like no other; a story about the way we met and how he had swept me off my feet. But, the ending to that fairytale was so far from the reality.
No one will want to hear that story now, but for Grant, I will always tell it.

***Explicit Sex and Language. Not for those who are not fans of spontaneous love affairs.

This novella surrounds the whirlwind and heart breaking romance between Grant and Rose. I highly recommend that you read The Fall before diving into this one because we are introduced to this amazing couple first in that book. I never had the ugly cry over secondary characters in a story till I read “The Fall”. Also having read the first book, you will be prepared for the insta love factor in this one and will understand why things progress at warp speed.

We get to experience how their beautiful romance began and for those of you who fell in love with Grant like I did, you will love getting his heart breaking back story. This explains his seemingly erratic behavior.

There is little to no angst in this one. Grant is a man determined to win over the object of his affections and he is relentless in his pursuit of Rose. She does have some misgivings at first but is no match against Grant’s persistent nature.

Having read the first book, I knew that I was in store for some gut wrenching heart break and Kate Stewart surely delivered!! I am strongly advising those who haven’t read this one yet, to make sure you have a bottle of wine handy and a box of tissues!!!

Another beautifully written story by the amazingly talented Kate Stewart!!!
I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting the next book in this series – The Heart, due out in March!!!

5 stars!

Kate Stewart just ripped out my heart, then stomped on it for good measure. Seriously folks, this one was heartbreaking. It gave me all the feels. But let me tell you something- I loved every minute of it. It wasn’t an easy book to read, but I’m happy I picked it up. After reading The Fall, I needed Rose and Grant’s story. This novella should be read after The Fall. It’s also a prequel to Rose’s book coming out soon. I don’t even know how I’m going to get through that one!

When Rose and Grant meet, it’s something special. Grant knows right away that she is the one for him. Rose takes a bit more time to convince.
“You know, Rose, I know you feel it, too. It’s okay to be a little afraid. But this is how the good ones start.”

Their love story is beautiful, it’s inspiring and completely epic. I fell in love with them as a couple, and even though I knew what was going to happen, I was in complete denial. I actually texted my bestie when I get to 60% and told her I would come back to this book in a day or two. Right now in my head they are happy together and I want to stay there. See… me=delusional!

In all seriousness, Kate is such a talented writer. Her words are beautiful and her writing is strong. This story was short, but one I’ll never forget. I laughed, I smiled, and I completely broke down and ugly cried by the end, but I don't regret reading it. The stories that hit me this hard and gut me are the ones I never ever forget!

5 lightning stars

"I’ve had enough years of doing the wrong shit and being with the wrong women. I took one look at you and a thousand memories we hadn’t made hit me in waves. I can’t explain it and it may seem fast to you, but to me, it’s as natural as taking my next breath.”

The Mind is a spinoff novella of The Fall, as well as being a prequel novella to the next book in the series. We met Rose and Grant in The Fall, and fell in love with them there. This book has their whole love story. I highly recommend reading The Fall before reading The Mind because they are connected fairly well.

When Grant saw Rose for the first time, it was love at first sight. He just had to convince Rose of that fact too. Due to sheer persistence and an undeniable connection, Grant and Rose forge a relationship unlike any the two of them have ever had.

 photo pagebreak.png

"Grant moved me in a way that he had taken complete care of both. My heart was heavy with love; my soul was filled with contentment.”

So if I am being completely honest here, I expected to enjoy this book but I didn’t plan on loving it as much as I did. Having read The Fall and knowing the result of Grant and Rose’s love story, I was a bit hesitant going into this one. But like I said despite my reservations I loved this book and couldn’t put it down until the very end.

So there is instalove in this book, not something I typically enjoy in my romance books but I kind of knew going in that there would be, so I was able to suspend my disbelief early on and enjoy. It also helped that Grant’s feelings were entirely believable based on his persistence and honesty with Rose. Also for a short story, instalove is kind of necessary because otherwise it wouldn’t come altogether. I loved that Rose on her end struggled with her intense feelings and their fast relationship. While she was initially attracted to Grant and could not deny their connection, she didn’t believe she could love someone so quickly and it took some convincing from Grant to bring her over. This is actually one of my favorite tropes in romance, where the guy is the one convincing the girl to be all in.

I will say this book completely broke my heart and had me SOBBING. The real ugly cry snot and all. I even knew what was coming and that almost made my heartbreak worse because I KNEW. So now that I’ve cried all of the water out of my body I am going to go and watch something very happy. I rate books on how they made me feel, and since this one had all of the feels, I grant it a 5 star read.

“I won’t ever give you a reason to want to walk away. I’ll love you the way you deserve to be loved, always. That’s my promise.”

If you read The Fall, you know a little bit about Rose and Grant. This novella is their story and the prequel to The Heart. I had such mixed emotions about this novella before I started. First, my heart broke in The Fall when I originally read about Grant and Rose. I was devastated, so naturally I was a little leery about reading this. In the same respect, I wanted to read this book so badly because I think The Heart will be epic and this book is one step closer. Even though I braced myself for the inevitable I wasn’t prepared for this.

Grant immediately knew Rose was the one for him, it took a little longer to convince Rose. But once he did their love was a whirlwind, they fall fast and hard. I will go ahead and say this book definitely has insta-love, but I felt like I already knew Grant and Rose so their connection was believable and real to me.

I loved reading their love story. I loved, loved, loved seeing how they completed each other. The sincerity and selfless love was beautiful and it made the ending so freaking tough to read. I am so impressed with Kate’s ability to completely wrap you up in their story. To make you feel with them.

I am not sure how it’s possible to know the outcome of a story and still feel like you are reading it for the first time. Seeing things through Rose’s POV felt fresh and real, she broke my heart. Her thoughts and emotions were so realistic and I felt her pain. I am literally starting to cry as I write this review thinking about how she felt and her thoughts.

I can’t imagine the emotional and mental drain of writing this book, but I am so glad Kate did. I am so happy I read it, because while it hurt at times I feel like I really know Rose and Grant now. I am looking forward to what’s to come and desperately want to read The Heart.

Grant Foster is a 29 yr. old guy born and raised in Texas who works as an airplane mechanic. He is currently caring for his ill father in Tennessee & in a dead end relationship. He is travelling back & forth, working hard to get back to Texas & build the life he's always wanted, when he crosses paths with the girl of his dreams.

 photo ariel1_zpsznb5hql4.gif

Grant see's the beautiful Rose Whitaker & it's love at first sight. He doesn't believe in wasting time & he goes for what he wants. He relentlessly pursues Rose, to the point where at first she finds him a bit overwhelming, but she can't fight the intense feelings he stirs in her. Among these feelings is lust. Grant is seriously hot, & Rose wants him bad! She hasn't been with a man in a while. She is a 4th yr. med student with an extremely demanding schedule. She decided long ago love would have to take a backset to her career & her goals to open her own practice with her sister. Being a successful surgeon one day was everything to her, that is until Grant Foster worked his way into her heart.

-"Do you believe in love at first sight?"

-"You know Rose, I know you feel it too and it's okay to be a little afraid. But this is how the good ones start."

The more time Grant & Rose spend together the more they fall in love with one another. It's an intense beautiful once in a lifetime kind of love. They are both blissfully happy & excited for their future together. It's a whirlwind of a romance, & everything is falling into place when tragedy strikes. We first met Grant in The Fall & I fell in love with him. He is such a beautiful character. I knew this would be a tough book to read & a tear jerker & it was. I had to take breaks during certain parts because my heart felt like it was being ripped in two. As emotional as it was to read, I soaked up every minute of this beautiful story. Just adored this couple & their love story. I highly recommend reading The Fall first if you haven't read it yet since we first meet Grant & Rose in that book.

-Never in my life had I been blessed to have such a man.

-I was overwhelmed, excited and terrified of his effect on me.

4.5 FEEL THAT? STARS

After reading The Fall I was emotionally gutted. I so desperately wanted Rose’s story but at the same time I didn’t know if I really wanted any more of that beautiful hurt that Kate Stewart does so well! You must read The Fall to be fully aware of the fast love and the tragic loss between Rose and Grant, but with that description…many probably would shy away from a love story with no HEA…but then again, maybe it deserves to be heard.

 photo e43e48d8-c939-4bd2-85cb-b000da7d4ee2_zpsdx6xkpac.jpg

The Mind is a novella…a short tale of an emotional whirlwind of passion and sadness and yet a promise for so much more.

I have to admit that I was nervous going into this read. I already knew the story right? I knew that two people fell in love fast. I knew that a woman and man seemed to find forever love and a peace with one another just as if fate itself scribed it. I knew Rose was a driven woman who was full go at all times, yet completely practical at the same time. I also knew Grant was truly a good guy who would be a forever support for his woman. I then knew it was over.

Love at first sight…sappy declarations of forever…moving before thinking…usually not my fave storylines. I KNEW NOTHING!!!. I was rocked to read so much in such a short period of time and to be so affected. Lightning fast love is exactly what happens…but what if falling in love is just as big of a plan as say becoming a doctor? What if life’s twists and turns that make one adapt also have a detour for the heart?

The Mind is definitely instant everything, but it done so cautiously well and with such complete and solid character development that a love professing Grant and a protesting Rose became endearing. I mean falling in love is all about the crazy right? Consuming passion, furiously needing another person, overthinking every word and look, and finally realizing that LOVE hits hard and it can be completely insane all while beautiful.

 photo e0b7014c-1f26-4a17-9656-009dfba68b98_zpslif3syg1.jpg

So while it may be short and oh so bittersweet, Rose and Grant’s fall is worth the effort. It is a brief love that sets a high standard. To be loved so much…to “feel that” so deep in the heart and in the mind… it will be such a tasking journey to ever find more! I have such admiration for the talent of Kate Stewart as her writing is beautiful and her stories, while unique, are not always perfect. After experiencing the brilliance of this passionate and tragic insanity, I know that The Heart will be beyond epic!<

5 “Go get her” STARS

This novella's a prequel to Rose's story, The Heart. We met Rose and Grant in The Fall and while this novella is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. But there are some spoilers to The Fall and also, IMO, meeting Rose and Grant in the first book really sets the stage for their story in The Mind. I strongly recommend reading The Fall first.

This was utterly heartbreaking and breathtakingly beautiful. Having read the first book, I knew how this would end for Rose and Grant, and even knowing that, this was not an easy read. To say I cried would be an understatement. It wasn't pretty.

I loved Rose from the first book and by the end, I was jonesing for her story. I'll admit, while I thought Grant was sweet, sexy and I liked him, I had my reservations. Insta-love isn't a turn off for me because I do believe it's possible (I see those eye rolls) but it's rare that an author can make it work for me.

I'm not trying to convert you but I'll ask this question: Haven't you ever just instantly clicked with someone (doesn't have to be romantic) that it's like you're meant to meet? Meant to be connected; together even if for a fleeting moment in time? And that time spent with that person changes you. Makes your world view different, better or more? If not, sorry to hear that. Anyway, for me, in short order, Kate was able to win me over to Grant's vision and beliefs that Rose was THE one.

“I had planted the seed of a future for myself a long time ago without ever really seeing the big picture.”
 photo The mind3_zpsc7sljwwh.jpg

Grant was an old soul and a true romantic. Understanding his childhood, why he saw things the way he did, his beliefs and his loss made all of it fit. There’s no denying that Grant had an ethereal quality about him. Many of his sweet and loving words to Rose were filled with promise but also double entendres and held a much deeper and prophetic significance.

 photo the mind_zpsiytta6ai.jpg

Throughout the tale of Rose and Grant, Kate’s words made me feel like I was Rose. I connected with her so easily and got her attraction to Grant but also her skepticism in the beginning to Grant’s intense feelings and his resolute faith in them as a couple. Rose was protecting her heart; afraid to fall too far too fast and I got that. But once she trusted in that feeling between them, once she saw Grant’s heart and love, she was all in.

Right now, I’m seriously in love with Grant and just don’t know how I'm Rose’s going to move on and find another love. But knowing Kate, she’ll work her magic and I know she’ll have me eating my words.

I knew I was a goner, the moment I read the dedication:
For those who still believe in love at first sight.

I absolutely love the story of Rose and Grant, no matter how heartbreaking it may be. The lightning strike of love at first sight ... the whirlwind romance ... the feeling of falling so completely out of control. I get it .
I get it, and I love it!

It's hard to fit so much emotion into such a tiny little novella. Kate Stewart manages to create a wonderfully believable story with just the right amount of feels. This book is a terrific companion to The Fall.

Now I'm anxious to see Rose get her HEA ... The Heart can't arrive soon enough!

I felt that…

***SERIOUSLY SPOILERISH IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FALL***

First off I need to apologise to Kate Stewart for sitting on my ARC and being too scared to read it. See, I’m a cryer. At the time I got my ARC I knew I wasn’t ready to read Rose and Grant’s lightening strike love story. Now, The Heart is here and I know it’s time to let it all play out. Yes, I’m not reading this the way Kate wanted me to, but I had to read it this way. I’m a sucker for love…and when it hurts, I need to know that it will come out OK. Bloody hell I hope it all comes out OK.

I knew I’d have to brace myself reading The Mind. I didn’t realise how hard it was going to be seeing such a sweet love story, and knowing that I shouldn’t get too attached to it. I didn’t want to love Grant as much as I did. I didn’t want to see this perfect love story form. I knew I didn’t have it in me to brace hard enough to take the pain without tears. As each page turned, I wondered how much more of this beautiful love story I could get through. I wanted to cry with every sweet gesture made and loving word spoken. I timed my reading for the second half of the story, to be when my kids were at school. I knew it was going to get ugly.

Then it happened…and it was too quick…too much to take in…just a few short paragraphs broke my heart.

I’m bloody tearing up writing this.

I had just read the words and I had to take my glasses off for a big old tear-fest. I was just getting back into it (still sniffling) when hubby came home from a meeting. He knew about this book because I’d warned him. Hubby walked into the room and I launched myself at him bawling my eyes out. He wrapped his arms around me and tried to calm me down. I told him fiercely…”don’t you ever leave me!” He calmly replied, “sure”. I realised what a goose I was being and how sweet he was being, then I felt him shake. I’m bawling…and laughing…and bawling. I asked, “are you laughing at me?” He said, “no baby, but I might be smirking just a little.” (Sorry for the grammar, too emotional to do it right but I’m sure you get the drift).

So, The Mind upset me just a wee bit. It was beautifully written and emotional to the point that I couldn’t read it without feeling it. I’m glad that I decided to read it this way because I know going onto The Heart now wouldn’t have felt the same if there was a big break in between reads. I wanted this pain to carry on over to the next book, so I can take the journey as a whole. No pressure Kate Stewart, but I hope you can mend my heart.

OMG. Where do I even start? First: Go buy The Fall. Read it. Then come back. The Mind is the story of Rose and Grant. It isn't a story that is easy to tell and it wasn't easy to read. It was heartbreaking. I was filled with hope and then it would all come back and hit me all over again. But it was a story I had to have.

"Every second mattered. Every. Fucking. Second."

We first met Rose and Grant during The Fall. Rose is Dallas's little sister who got swept up in a love affair that had an epic-style ending. Grant. Holy shit. I loved him instantly. He just owned every scene he was in. There was just something about him.

"It's okay to be a little afraid. But this is how the good ones start."
"The good ones?"
"The great ones. This will be a great one."

We knew they fell hard. Instantly. But we didn't get to witness it. The moment when he first sees her. The moment he knows. The realization that he is the one. That all of this is real.

"It wasn't luck. It was lightning."

I admit that I started crying by page two. Yep. Big sissy here. But I loved that the prologue was what set the stage for Grant's need to take what his heart knew would be forever. I loved seeing an eight year old Grant. I wanted to hold him close and tell him it would all be okay. I wanted to tell him that when he was older, this moment would be the moment that would make him into the man he was today.

And then it happened. The meeting. The beginning. The clock started ticking and I desperately wanted to stop time.

I fell in love with this couple in passing during The Fall and that love grew beyond measure with The Mind. I can only hope that The Heart can heal a small part of the hurt that their love story delivered.

Kate. Kate. Kate. You did good! Absolutely fantastic. You gave us all the best parts of Grant. You made sure that we were so filled with the best of times that we could exist in the after. The writing was perfect. The story was even better. Thank you for telling the story that was hard to hear. Thank you for giving us this piece of a character that we all loved so fully even though he only graced a few pages.

I know that I will love The Heart, but part of me will always wish for the unknown.

To those that have not read Kate Stewart's work yet, you are missing out. I have read everything this author has released (under both names) and everything is spectacular. Now if only she could write a million more books so that I never had to stop reading her words, it would be a perfect world. I don't think she will release a book that won't be a favorite read. I just don't think she has it in her to do anything less.

ARC

I have to admit that I was very hesitant to read this book and if you've read The Fall then you know why. Rose is Dallas' sister and Grant is her boyfriend and they are both secondary characters in that book.

However, because it's not their story, we don't get all the details about them falling in love and let me tell you...it's all good! We heard Grant was swoon worthy and now we get to know it all first hand.

He takes Rose by storm and literally sweeps her off her feet. She's a little taken back by him at first but decides to trust her bruised heart. It's all very romantic.

description

But let's be straight here...as unsure as I was about reading about Grant, I still knew what was coming. What I wasn't prepared for was Grant's Dad...I mean, WTH? That was just cruel.

And let me tell you that Kate Stewart has some very large shoes to fill. I have a HUGE need to find out why she did what she did and I have a sneaky feeling that it's going to require something...epic!

So would I recommend this story? At this point, I'm just not sure...it's something that will definitely have to wait until after I read The Heart. Let's hope that K.S. can work some magic!

5 Lightning Strikes Stars!

Wow! After reading The Fall I just knew that I was going to need a box of tissues in one hand while reading this. Surprisingly that was not the case. Yes, I did cry some, but this book is more about the love between Grant and Rose. The Mind is a spinoff novella of The Fall, so I would highly recommend reading it first.

When Grant saw Rose it was love at first sight, but convincing her of that was challenging. She had already been in a relationship that ended badly for her. Now all she was interested in was school. She didn't have time for distractions and Grant Foster was a giant distraction.
"I could feel the constant undercurrent between us. The source was an undeniable attraction."

Now I know insta-love can be a turn off for some (me included), but it worked for me in this love story. Grant's charisma and charm make you forget all about it. I completely lost track of time while reading this book.
"Grant and I fell in love in a lightning strike."

I love Rose's parents. Their little quibbles sprinkled in this book and in The Fall were perfect humorous reliefs. I have to go back now and read their story in Room 212. This story packed such a big punch in just a few pages. It was perfection. I have no idea where Kate Stewart will lead us with The Heart, but I can't wait to find out.

I’m a huge Kate Stewart fan. I loved Loving the White Liar, and I was so spellbound by The Fall that it made my Top Ten of 2015 list. We are introduced to Rose and Grant in The Fall (the prequel to this book), and I was looking forward to the story of their whirlwind romance. The blurb makes it clear that the book isn’t intended for readers who dislike Insta-love – admittedly, something I’m not crazy about. The romantic in me appreciates the dedication: “For those who still believe in love at first sight.” The cynic in me, though, rejects that notion. Do I believe in attraction at first sight? Absolutely! Love? Not so much.

Perhaps that explains why it took me awhile to connect with the story. I think I would have bought into their spontaneous love affair more if Grant had even a little interaction with Rose before being convinced she’s the one he should spend the rest of his life with (and vice versa). In the beginning of the book, he comes across as rather stalker-ish in his intense pursuit of her . It was borderline creepy, so I appreciated that Rose felt the same way. Her apprehension makes the scenario more believable. She’s one tough cookie – a little prickly, very skeptical, driven in her career goals, and feisty. Her mind battles her heart, whereas Grant is a true romantic and incredibly agreeable. He is determined to open her mind to the possibility of love regardless of how long it takes. In the process he starts to wear down Rose’s defenses – and mine. The deeper they fall in love, the more I enjoyed the story. The last half of the book is especially exceptional.

Although the book is told primarily through Rose’s narrative, there are a few chapters written from Grant’s POV. I loved those chapters because they offer key insight into Grant’s feelings and motivations, and I came to understand his rash behavior.

The story has incredible depth for a novella, which is a testament to Kate Stewart’s creative and intuitive writing style. Ultimately, The Mind is a tender love affair between two beautiful characters and the reader as well. It’s a sexy and emotional journey – one I’m glad I took a chance on. I’m ready for the continuation of the story in The Heart!

I try to avoid reading insta-love stories as they are not my cup of tea.
I am a practical person to the dot and for many reasons I already came to the conclusion that I don't have a single romantic bone in my body. Sad hmmm?
It makes sense to me though why I only read Romances. It’s a kind of "mind getaway" from my practical persona to Fantasy-Loveland.
BUT, no insta-love!
That being said, I am all in for insta-lust. How naughty of me

Back to my thoughts, I Knew there would be insta-love here.
Despite that, I wanted to give it a go.
I was left very intrigued by Rose and Grant's story when I read The Fall (The Reluctant Romantics #1).
I am so happy I gave the one-click.
Somehow it worked, scratch that, it was beyond “it worked”. It was almost perfection.

And from there on Grant starts to pursue Rose.
I, the cynical that I am, have tried to hold onto my beliefs. Love at first sight?
NO.WAY.JOSE.
Yet it failed.
Mrs Stewart left me no choice other than to fall for both MC’s and their beautiful love story.
How this happened?
Firstly, the fact that EVEN Rose couldn't believe in insta-love made this more real and solid to me.

Secondly, Kate Stewart’s talented writing skills.
It was incredible how much emotion Kate Stewart pulled in such a short story.
Rose and Grant were perfect together.

Note : I fell for Grant quicker than Rose. I might be a romantic after all.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin or put into perspective on how utterly raw, beautiful, touching, and heartbreaking The Mind by Kate Stewart is. I am blown away by the sheer force and magnitude of raw emotions swirling in this novella. My heart, soul, and mind have been consumed by the story of Grant and Rose.

#TheMind

If you haven't read The Fall then I highly recommend you to because that book was just as emotional, heartbreaking, and devastatingly beautiful. Also, you would have read about Grant and Rose's story and relationship in that book and so when you read The Mind, you would have a much better understanding of their relationship and how it all began.

The beginning. The start of Grant and Rose. Honestly, there are some authors who can pull off writing a love at first sight storyline and some not so much. But Kate Stewart pulled it off and so much more. Right off the opening pages and till the very last page, Kate consumed me. Her gorgeous and stunning prose gripped my heart and mind. Every raw emotions were captured and felt throughout the pages. Kate didn't leave any stone unturned. She gutted her readers. She made them FEEL. Feel the spark. The hope. The fear. The sadness. The uncertainty. The truth. And most importantly, to FEEL THE LOVE. A love that is so pure. So simple. So understanding. So magical. A love that only speaks the truth. A love that is unforgettable. A love that will stain your heart, have a piece of your soul, and forever be etched into your mind.

photo 7681f02994633e50f4f7adb3416b48_zpsk8kcis2q.gif “Please, Grant, take me.”“I intend to, Rose. I intend to take all of you: your heart, soul, body, and mind. Even when I do have all of you, it still won’t be enough.”

Kate Stewart did not only write a heartbreaking and beautiful tale of love but she was able to capture the essence of her characters and brought them to life. Instantly, I loved Grant. Everything about him made me fall in love with him hard. Yes, I loved Grant and so you could imagine how emotional I got reading this book. Grant's confidence and love for Rose was earth shattering. It was the kind of love you thought you could only find and read in fairytales and see in the movies. And so to read a LOVE STORY that is so pure, simple, and honest, my heart was captured by Grant. They say a love so powerful can never be forgotten. It doesn't dies but lives on. And so Kate Stewart did that and so much more. My mind and heart fell in loved with the story of Rose and Grant.

photo 7681f02994633e50f4f7adb3416b48_zpsk8kcis2q.gif “Why are you so intent on forever with me?” He looked at his lap on an exhale before he turned his heavy gaze to me. “Because that’s what my heart told me the second I looked at you. And for the first time in my life, I’m letting it lead the way.”

What else is there to say but go read The Fall and The Mind. Get lost and consumed with Kate Stewart's characters and storyline. Get ready to feel the love. Feel your heart racing and pumping as you get consumed with the whirlwind of raw emotions. Get ready for the unthinkable. Get ready for the heartbreak. But most importantly, get ready to fall in LOVE with the story of Grant and Rose.

photo 7681f02994633e50f4f7adb3416b48_zpsk8kcis2q.gif “For the first time in my life, I was letting the romantic reign and it felt incredible. I was lost in love and I didn’t give a damn how hard I’d fallen back into reality the last time.”

Kate~ Thank you again for writing another beautiful, heartbreaking, and endearing story. Thank you for writing a character like Grant. Thank you for gifting us another story that I know comes from your heart. And most importantly thank you for holding my heart and mind hostage in this unforgettable love story.

I am so glad to give this book a chance
despite having been a bit disappointed with The Fall.

description

Why?

Because this was so much better.
And besides, I like Grant's character. So even though I already knew how this novella would end, I don't care. I still wanted to read their story.

"God gave us all the gift of intuition. If you aren’t careful, it’s easy to miss or ignore. I’ve always been really careful to listen to my gut.

So when Grant introduced himself to Rose as

“I’m the man that’s going to marry you.”

You would think Grant lunatic. But he is not.

Believe it or not, this book contains 2 of my pet peeves...

Instant attraction and lots of sex (for a novella)

BUT even if, the author was able to deliver everything perfectly, making me believe that them falling in love at a lightning strike was for real.

"...when I asked myself the question of whether or not Grant and I could fall in love in the blink of an eye and live that way forever, I was sure, like everything else Grant had predicted, he could make it true. We, together, could make it true."

I love Grant. He was lovable in The Fall but you get to know him more and see the sweeter side of him in this book.

It's nice to know that even though this book was just a short read, it was pack with emotions.

I was a bit sad to see how quickly this book has ended. Would've been so much better if it was whole lot longer.

I'd wish to have my answer on a scene. No idea if this will be tackled on the next book.

Overall, it was a great read. Not for everyone though. Trigger:

Talk about ugly cry!!!!!
I love, love this author and this book has to be one of my favorites! It is short, but very emotional and with a plot twist that will leave you completely broken!!!
When Grant meets Rose, he knows she is the one. So, he pursues her relentlessly until she realizes that they are meant to be.

'Well, who are you?'
He looked at me with a confidence I'd only seen a few men carry, namely my father.
"I am the man that's going to marry you.'

Rose is a young woman with a kind heart and a bright future and when Grant enters her life, her entire world changes. He becomes the center of her universe. He becomes the meaning of life for her.
The writing amazed me. I am not usually a huge fan of insta-love, but in this case it didn't bother me at all because the couple was so well fitted and adorable! It's a fast read, but with so many emotions behind it. Word of advice; keep your box of tissues close.

The Mind (The Reluctant Romantics #1.5) by Kate Stewart
5 stars!!

“She was my match, my heart, my soul, my future…”

It is very very rare I give 5 stars to a novella, but this book, albeit only 141 pages packed one mighty emotional punch. Instalove is something that is extremely hard to “get,” we all have our doubts about it in reality, but having felt it when I first met my now husband I do believe in it and Kate Stewart captured this perfectly in The Mind.

This novella covers two characters that were featured in The Fall and I highly recommend reading this book before attempting to read this novella. While those that have read The Fall know the background of Rose and Grant, nothing can prepare you for the words that Kate Stewart delivers in The Mind. This novella is also a warm up to book two, The Heart, which is Rose’s story.

“It wasn’t luck. It was lightning.”

When Grant meets Rose he knows that she is his forever, he knows that this is the woman he is going to marry and he knows that Rose will be the mother of his kids. Just one chance meeting and that was all it took and this man goes all out to make his fantasies a reality.

Rose is a bit more hesitant and takes a lot more convincing. While at first she thinks that Grant is absurd with his declarations she cannot deny the chemistry that sparks between them and it doesn’t take long before Grant has Rose eating out his hand. Rose is extremely focused and dedicated to her studies, she is in med school and all she wants to focus on is that but Grant makes it extremely difficult for her to concentrate. Rose has never felt like this about anyone and even she eventually admits that what they have is something special and she can see the same future that Grant has mapped out.

“My weak heart never had a chance against my mind, which I decided loved Grant the most because it kept perfect memories.”

This is an epic love story, it was beautiful to read, totally convincing and extremely emotional. This is the story of a love that was unconditional a love so deep and so intense that there was no beginning and no end, these two were so in love with each other it radiated off the pages and that is hard to nail in such a short story, but nail it Kate Stewart did.

“The whole world would not make a damn bit of sense until I fell in love.”

While I was reading I had the bile in my stomach churning, the trouble with knowing how the story ends is you know what is coming but you don’t know when and as hard as this story was to read it was a story that needed to be told. It was a love too epic not to be told. Having read The Fall, you don’t really appreciate just how real and intense Grant and Rose were and once you see the complete picture behind the fragments we were treated to in The Fall you finally understand and you hurt, you hurt REAL BAD!

I have to say kudos to Kate Stewart because she manages to pull off the impossible with this novella. The emotion in those pages captures your imagination and captures your heart and soul. These characters live and breathe with you and while you are reading with dread and anticipation you cannot help but wallow in the beauty of what they had. Kate Stewart totally captivates you with their love for one another. While this was such a hard story to read it was a story that needed to be told and even though it broke my heart I feel all the better for reading it. It would be wrong to brush what they had under the carpet as a side character that held no merit. Grant had a HUGE heart and wasn’t afraid to wear it on his sleeve. While this story ended all too quickly the love that these two had will live on forever, at least in my heart it will.

“The mind is a cruel thing. I was now a firm believer that it controls your heart. We are led to believe that they are two separate but powerful adversaries, battling it out for control, but I no longer saw it that way…”

Kate Stewart you made me cry a river, a river that was bursting banks and keeping Kleenex in business for years, but man you nailed this story. You really did Rose and Grant justice and this is one story that I will never, ever forget. You should be extremely proud of yourself.

4.5 "Love at first sight" Stars

"Did you feel that?”

Synopsis: A story about love at first sight. The lightening bolt, the chemistry of star-struck lovers, the power of destiny.

"It was lightning... It was real."

It's the story of a guy who sees a girl reading a book under a tree and falling for her in that very instant.

"I took one look at you and a thousand memories we hadn't made hit me in waves."

It's the story of a guy why who then needs to convince the girl to be with him without coming across as a total lunatic.

"The truth was I’d acted like a goddamn lunatic since the minute I saw her and didn’t stop until she agreed to become Mrs. Lunatic."

It's the story of falling in love so completely and surrendering to your heart rather than your mind. It's the story about moments and magic and the irrelevance of time.

"My weak heart never had a chance against my mind, which I decided loved Grant the most because it kept perfect memories."

The best bits: This was just so utterly romantic, and managed to be so without inducing a migraine due to constant eye-rolls from OTT sweetness and sap. It was just... beautiful.
It really is about the kind of love that everybody deserves.

The worst bits: I wanted more of Grant.

Recommended for: For lovers of love-at-first-sight (not to be confused with lust-at-first-sight books though). Truly, that is the basis for this whole story, so if that's not your bag of chips then it's probably best to stay away. Other than that... I recommend this to EVERYONE ELSE!! It's just beautiful... but have a box of tissues near by!

Wow! I am gutted, broken, hurting and absolutely in awe of Kate Stewart. As always she pulled me in, tore me apart and made me FEEL in an almost unbearable way.
From reading The Fall I knew Rose's story was tragic and I was hesitant to read it.
Who wants to consciously hurt themselves the way I knew this book would hurt?!
Although I feel like I am gasping for air between the tears, I am so happy I was gifted this story of true love at first sight. It was beautifully painful and I can not wait for the conclusion to Rose's story.

When you finish the Fall, by Kate Stewart than naturally you are going to read this book next as it is the 1.5 part of this reluctant romantic series. It's pretty long for a novella and gives the back story of Grant and Rose that was basically running hidden in the background of book 1, The Fall. which was Dallas and Dean's story(very swoony btw).

I enjoyed this novella and feel that it is somewhat necessary to read to move on to the next book, but in some ways because you know the ending - it was hard for me to really love it!!! I've never used that spoiler button since it hides the whole review and I always thought that was weird because you never know what part of a long review is the spoiler part!?!?! - so if you haven't read The Fall, or this book, or any of the summaries of any of the books in this series than I'm giving you ample time as I ramble to stop reading as I make a few comments that could potentially spoil. Ok, you are warned.....I will spill it now...read at your own risk. Going into Grant and Rose's story already knowing it was a short relationship, knowing that he dies tragically before their life really starts..was hard for me. I had a hard time connecting with them. I literally felt a nice little wall around my heart....I felt myself hurrying to finish so I could get to the next book to read the real happy ending. So that is why I give it 3 stars. The writing and the emotions are 5 star!

I am not going to review this but want to quote a bit from the book:

"The mind is a cruel thing. I was a firm believer that it controls your heart. We are led to believe they are two separate but powerful adversaries, battling out for control, but I no longer saw it as the case. Every waking moments of the past week, my thoughts had only led my heart to bleed. It had no say; it just kept obeying my relentless mind, the ache, the pull, the never ending tear that ripped at me with every awareness.............My weak heart never had a chance against my mind.............which I decided loved Grant the most because it kept perfect memories"

5 stars because this book ripped my heart apart. Powerful story that left me crying fat tears. I am looking forward to the continuation of Rose's story in book 2 another great delivery from Kate Stewart.

I knew what I was getting myself into when I started to read The Mind. If one have read The Fall then they know as well, that it's Rose and Grant's beautiful story which happened to begin with love at first sight. But it doesn't always have a happy ending.

I knew what ending their mesmerizing relationship would have. What intrigued and captured me was how did they get that beautiful and all consuming love which is mentioned in The Fall. I as well as Rose's sister Dallas was at first a little apprehensive about their relationship. But Grant had in a matter of minutes sealed the deal for me in The Fall.
So I was loving every page of The Mind because I got a closer and deeper look into Grant's past and him being with Rose and their passionate love.

Grant is such a beautiful and sweet soul. I love his first sighting of Rose. So many emotions went through me and especially how a certain thing/object come to play later in the story. He truly is a firm believer in love at first sight. I loved how he wooed Rose, showing her all of him. In every sense of the word.
I love the closer look I got into Rose's life. Her passion for her job as an aspiring surgeon and her love for her sister Dallas, her parents and her bestie Jennifer. I liked her in The Fall but I loved her in The Mind. Her strength is beyond amazing and how she shows it towards Grant is heartwarming and beyond beautiful just as they are together.

As difficult as this was to read at times because I knew what painful and brutal heartbreak Rose was going to experience, I at the same time was enjoying it tremendously. All because of the flawless writing from Kate Stewart. She never seizes to amaze me. I love her storytelling and most of all these characters or should I say group of people she has created. My heart feels and breaks along with them. I can't wait to read Rose's story because her heart is still filled with so much love and I'm ready to meet that lucky man who's going to capture it. I have faith in Kate Stewart and her creative vision and I know she's going to give Rose the happy ending she deserves.

5 Lightning Stars

They say you can't catch lightning in a bottle. There is a reason for that. Lightning is really hot. Like 53,ooo degrees hot. The kind of hot that burns. Leaves a scar.

Warning: The Mind is a companion novella to The Fall. Read The Fall first.

Rose is a medical student. She is driven. Ambitious. She has dreams and a plan to make them happen. What she doesn't have a plan for him. Grant

I began to argue with myself.
You hardly know him.
Yep.
He may every well be insane.
Uh huh.
You don't do one night stands.
Nope.
What are you doing?
Naked, get him naked.
This is not a good idea.

Grant is not a wild, hot headed guy. He is a level headed guy who has watched his dad miss his mom for most of his life. He isn't looking for a maybe love. He really isn't looking at all.

...if this were anything like the way I felt when my momma left, I wouldn't be here....I would be holding on for dear life, making every effort to ensure we stayed together.

That was before.....

When Grant meets Rose. Lightning meet Bottle.

I won't tell you much more about this novella. It is fast and hot. It is sweet and painful. And because it is a Kate Stewart, is is superbly written.

I'm more scared of not saying how I feel, of not telling you, of not taking the chance with you, and begging for the same.

I've had enough years of doing the wrong shit, and being with the wrong women. I took one look at you and a thousand memories we hadn't made yet hit me in waves.

I loved this. I hated this. I cussed Ms Stewart and her ability to make me fall into the characters. The best news is that even though this is a novella, it is setting up a novel to come in the spring. So while you are catching your breath from this one, prepare your heart and soul for the next one.

The Mind by Kate Stewart will absolutely break you. It is such a beautiful love story that is one that all girls dream of. This is Rose and Grant's story. We first met Rose and Grant in The Fall. I'll fell in love with them then and I fell even harder in this novella.

Grant fell in love with Rose the moment he saw her and he pursued her relentlessly, never giving up. You will swoon over him. When Rose fell, she fell hard and fast. Their connection and chemistry will melt you.

You really should read The Fall first before you dive into this book. And if you did, you know what's going to happen. Just prepare yourself to be rendered an emotional ugly mess for days. I cried so hard I couldn't catch my breath and I have read this book 3 times. It never gets easier!

What is so amazing about Kate Stewart's writing is that she brings all emotions to the surface. As I said, you will ugly cry, but you will also laugh and feel the joy when they fall in love during their whirlwind romance.

This book may not be how we want our fairytale to end, but it is real and raw. I will always wonder "what if" but this is only the beginning to Rose's story, not the end. I cannot wait to read The Heart and fall in love all over again.

The Mind is well beyond five stars for me!

This book was heartbreakingly sad. I'm talking ugly crying. Puffy eyes. Snotty nose.
Grant was a lovely hero. I wanted Rose to capitulate to what was blossoming between them a bit quicker / with less caution . And I wanted them to have an HEA but I've read The Fall , so I knew what was coming.
I am so intrigued to see how Kate Stewart is going to write another hero that can compete with the perfection that was Grant. I'm off to read The Heart.....

If you have read The Fall then you should remember Rose & Grant, right. Me, did I bugger. I was so engrossed from the first page that I forgot how THAT book ended.
This swept me of my feet and dumped me flat on my face. That's so evil of you Kate. How the hell can you top Grant?
