This is the first book in a series and it does leave you with a cliffhanger so be forewarned! That being said I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one in the series.
Synergy Emerson is happy with her life when she is forced to re-evaluate everything and return to New Orleans, a place she was told not to go to. But Synergy is looking for clues to her past and what secrets have been kept from her in order to keep her safe.
Kanai Aeros works for the Intermediate Protection Agency and is dealing in an increase in supernatural bodies since Synergy has shown up in town. Kanai must discover whether Synergy is innocent or guilty and must deal with his increasing attraction to her that is leaving his distracted.
I thought this was a great book and although I didn't love how Synergy came to New Orleans, I loved how she began to learn about her past and what she could gain from someones touch. There is still not enough known about Lavian Torrek and I want to know more about his vengeance and why.
I loved the relationship between Kanai and Synergy as it was very innocent to begin with but the trust between the two of them is so strong. There were so many factors and I know he'll do whattever he can for her.
I liked all the additions through the book (non-spoiler) that kept adding to the mystery and intrigue of everything that you thought you knew!
I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I found the start of this book quite hard to get into as you read chapters from many different points of view, as well as locations. To constantly change viewpoints in such a manner made it a bit 'flighty'. However, the story does settle down and is usually told from the perspectives of Kanai and Syn. Syn is completely new to the world of the Supernaturals and has no idea what is going on, why or even how? Kanai is set to become the new head of IPA so he knows more than most. Even he is stumped, to begin with, on just what is happening.
This book is full of adventure and murder, but you will need to stick with it until you find out more. I should also add that it comes with a major cliffhanger warning! The relationship between Kanai and Synergy is hot, although it does just seem to 'happen'. One minute they are snarking at each other, the next they are in bed! The relationship between Kanai and Synergy is hot, although it does just seem to 'happen'. One minute they are snarking at each other, the next they are in bed! They do make a good pair though and I am looking forward to seeing where S. Reynolds takes it.
Well-written, with some grammatical errors but nothing that disrupts the story, this is a fast-moving supernatural adventure romance to keep you on your toes.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
After her mother's murder, Synergy is introduced to a world she never knew existed. One that has a price on her head. One with the sexy police detective called Kanai, who may be the only one who can help her control her ever-growing powers.
I'm not really sure I liked this book. And I can't really say why! It wasn't bad, just not great.
It takes a while to get going, to warm up, with a lot of ground laying from people who don't really appear at all after this beginning and I did question why they had a say, and what they had to say too.
There are, in my opinion and in my copy at least, far too many minor spelling mistakes, editing errors, and sentences that don't make much sense, for me not to mention it, and it did affect my reading of this book.
And it ends on a cliff hanger. Which actually came at the point where I was starting to enjoy it! So there is more to come from Synergy and Kanai, from Syn's father and her newly found family. And from those who wish to harm Syn.
BUT!!!
Will I read it? I don't know. I really can't say at this moment in time, having just finished this one that I would want to. At a later date, maybe the answer will be different.

When Synergy’s mother is killed she is devastated. Never knowing her father and not knowing she has family leaves her alone in a world that just got a whole lot scarier. On the path to finding answers she finds way more than she ever bargained for. What will this new world that has opened up to her mean for her and her life? How can she ever learn to cope with her new reality when she is being hunted around every turn. Will she learn what she needs to in time? Will those she meets along the way help her or will she bring about their end as well as her own? A wonderfully written story that will leave you begging for more! I can't wait for the next installment!

To say I was a little excited to read this book by S. Reynolds would be a huge understatement.. I LOVE Paranormal books and I love S.Reynolds books.. to combine them both... an explosive reaction! Synergy did not disappoint, the storyline didn't just focus on one paranormal group but a variety of them which I really enjoyed!
From the beginning we knew that Syngery was special but reading her story, taking the journey with her and watching her come into her powers.. was a thrilling read and I can't wait to read more in the series.

OMG S Reynolds did it to me again! I love when my favorite author is feeling it and puts out a five star novel. First let me say that this genre usually isn't my thing but reading about Synergy, New Orleans, and falling in love with Ketron, I quickly became a fan.
Synergy has an awesome gift that makes her like no there. After leaving Oregon, Syn has to learn fast how to control her power within.
Without a doubt I would recommend this novel, as well as all of S Reynolds’ novels to others. She's totally AWESOME!!

CLIFFHANGER ALERT!!!!
Yes, it is a cliffhanger and I am dying to find out what happens to Synergy, her father, and Kian. Witches, Shifters, Vampires and other paranormals all in one series of books. Power is a heedy things, and when a lot of it is concentrated in one person, everyone wants it.
