Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!
I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked. I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance. I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!
Okay this is a vampire read... but not. Viktor is from ancient Greece three thousand years ago. Yea, he's old. On his deathbed, which was a complete injustice, he prayed to the Greek Gods to keep his friends and family safe. Zeus does one better. He grants him immortality, and Viktor becomes a King of the Blood. Zeus also allows Viktor to choose some of his loyal followers in the the mortal life to follow him into immortality and also become a King of the Blood. As a King of the Blood they are required to drink blood once a month to sustain their life, and they also dedicate their lives to eradicate evil from our world. Each King has a mate (they call it something else in their native tongue) that will bring them light and make them feel whole. If their mate hasn't been turned and officially mated to the King before their 3,000th year, the King will die (again) and the woman is free to live out her life. It's her choice. Viktor has waiting 3,000 years for his mate and she is finally here...
Every King knows when their mate is born, but they cannot contact or seek out the woman unless they are in mortal danger. They have to wait for their mate to come to them. Viktor had to wait until his mate was about 30 years old to meet her. Once he does he has no intentions of ever letting her go.
This is a unique spin on the vampire story. I love that it incorporates Greek mythology and that is how the Kings are "made". Throughout the entire story Viktor is completely devoted to Kat and vice versa. However, nothing is said about their pasts. Was Viktor celibate the entire 3,000 years?! We know she isn't a virgin. Viktor has been a passive participant in her mind for 30 years. How did he cope when she was with someone else?! I dont know. It doesn't matter that much to me; I just found it a bit of an oversight by the author. I always want to know something about the MCs past relationships and how that has affected them now in the present.
Viktor: Heart of Her King is book one in the Kings of the Blood series by Julia Mills.
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. The prologue was a great start and nicely done. What I loved/enjoyed the most was the new twist on vampires, how they where created, their purpose, and the greek mythology woven into the story and creation of the new type of vampires. It was well done and peeked my interest.
I also enjoyed the brotherly connection all the Kings have. You feel it in the pages. How close they are. They where all forged in battle and still fight the evil in the world protecting the human race.
The romance is insta, in that they are connected at the moment of their mates birth, but the Kings can’t go to their mates, their mates must come to them. It was different.
Viktor: Heart of Her King is a quick and delightful read. I’m curious enough to check out the next book in the series.
Purch Amazon Nov. 15, 2016 Viktor: Heart of Her King (Kings of the Blood #1) by Julia Mills is an Adult Paranormal Romance. It has a unique premise in that Zeus creates the Blood Kings. Unfortunately, this story becomes tedious to read. Very redundant. I love the idea of the story, but Viktor and Katarina's thoughts are continuously repeated throughout. Among those thoughts is how the Blood Kings came to be. We already know how the kings are created from the prolog. In fact the prolog is the best part of this story. If Ms. Mills had not continued to repeat their creation over and over again and taken out all the repetitive thoughts I would have loved the story. There are some great moments in here. There is just a pinch of suspense. Also a few editing errors. I bought the first three books of this series at the same time. That and my curiosity will have me reading them, but I am not in a big rush. I have read other books of Ms. Julia Mills and actually follow her. Her 'Not Quite' series is my favorite so far.
More than anything else, I really liked the new/different take with the Greek pantheon twist on vampires and immortality. I also really liked that these Kings of the Blood are totally all about their keepers of the heart, the women that completes their purpose in life.
Reading the Kings of the Blood box set which includes books one through three is a fascinating and wonderfully thrilling experience. First, this is my first time reading any of the Kings of the Blood books and I was completely fascinated with the world and Julia Mills’ intriguing concept of vampires but not yet really vampires, which I finally decided are immortal warriors with vampire like qualities, anyway the whole working for the gods notion worked really well too and made these delightful characters unique and special. The stories are well written and each character is strong, captivating and well developed which made it easy to connect to them and to become enthralled in the stories. Each story has a wonderfully sweet and entertaining romance, blazing hot passion and sizzling chemistry which includes explicit sexual material. The fast paced plots are full of thrilling action and suspense, including some violent content.
Now for Viktor: Heart of a King; Viktor and his soul mate have some really explosive chemistry and the story is full of suspense which keeps readers enthralled until the very end.
Next we have Roman: Fury of Her King; Roman and his soul mate have a bit more action in their romance because they dance around each other a bit. The fast paced plot includes some thrilling action and suspense when Roman is betrayed which keeps readers on the edge of their seat.
And finally we have Achilles: Soul of Her King; this story mixes things up quite a bit by with rule breaking and secrets with the fast paced plot including thrilling danger and excitement from a very powerful enemy.
I can only wish that these stories were bit longer and the stories a bit more fleshed out but I really enjoyed them and the fascinating world that Julia Mills has created, so I am looking forward to Bain’s book which will hopefully be released soon.
I love fantasy/paranormal romance but this fell short for me. The dialogue felt cheesy and many conversations were boring. The villain's immortality was vague and I didn't quite understand his motives.
The mythology of 'vampires' was a new idea. However, I'm not interested in continuing the series.
Viktoras Katsaros was Falsely executed for treason 3000 years ago. As he lay dying he prays to the Mythological False god Zeus. Who grants him eternal life after he has been dead for 30 days he will rise again as an immortal. Viktoras must find his mate know as the "fylakas tis kardias mou" this name almost drove me insane. Its repeated over and over. The author used it way to much. She should have use what it meant instead "Keeper of My Heart". The old Greek name doesn't sound romantic or sweet. Its too long and clumsy sounding.
Viktoras knows the minute Katarina Romaleskey is born into the world. He mentally bonds with her and then he must wait for her to come to him. He can't go to her. Of course they eventually meet when Kats company Roma Tech wants Viktoras's company help. My problem with this is he could read her mind and enter her dreams, but when they first make love its appears Katarina is not a virgin. How did that work he know every emotion she felt and he was suppose to be a possessive alpha male. Wouldn't he have gotten angry or upset if she had sex with someone else. I wasn't sure if she did or didn't.This is not clear at all another rushed scene when they first make love.
The beginning of the story and up until the end needs more back story and character development. It seems the author Julia Mills has adopted some of Christine Feehan's Dark series ideas. But Ms. Mills doesn't carry them out well; putting her own take on paranormal characters that are not Vampires but have some vampire traits. These Vampires Unum Kings as they are called have no real super natural powers. They can't do anything but move fast and live long lives. They just need lots more character development and thought out better.
The mating between Viktoras and Katerina was not very romantic. It was sensual but not passionate or sexy. I didn't feel any real connection between the characters to make her want to die for 30 days and rise on the 31st day an immortal mate for? The story moves fast because there is no real story behind any of the scenes. What happen to her best friend Reggie and her company Roma Tech? They just get dropped from the storyline. The story moves from scene to scene with no attachment to prior scenes or characters in the early part of the story. Even Katerina's kidnapping was resolved simply and quickly. Of course she had to get beat up a bit and chocked nearly to death. Why authors use this plot makes no sense to me!! It doesn't make the story paranormal since no paranormal skills were used to get her back.
The end when they had the mating ritual was good but then the story was just over after Kats rises as an immortal.
Thank God that I got this book Free on Amazon or I would have returned it. The story had potential if it were in the hands of a skilled author who knows how to tell a story!! Sorry I Cannot Recommend Viktor Heart of Her King!!
I read all the glowing reviews for this book, and was so on board for this read. How can I say this without sounding snarky, this book had so much potential, Ancient Greek vampire warriors check. Destined mates check. Only problem is the author goes to fast to love that she skips letting me fall in love as the characters do, or more importantly don't. They are destined mates at their first meeting. The first kiss, that night. Sparks. Fireworks. Inferno. Then bam kidnapping; heroine defending the billionaire she just met, to the bad dude. Wow! Too much too fast, muddled the waters.
Then the vampires being referred to a the King, talk about pretentious. I got it the first time he was referred to as this. It was off putting. So was the 'keeper of his heart' reference. These references really affected the flow of the text. I got it the first time. Don't beat me over the head with your world building, I am smart enough to keep up. I read Briggs and Bishop and can handle complex urban fantasy.
Also if you are going to use a world Mythos be true to those myths. You have Zeus as a benevolent deity. Please tell me when Zeus was ever a benevolent, helpful deity. Have you read Greek myths?
Plus The Kings of the Blood mission statement seems to have gone a stray. They are made to protect the weak, but I saw no weak protecting in this book. I think that most of this book stayed in the author's head instead of making it onto the page.
Vampires and even immortal transplanted Greek Heroes have been done so much better.
The book has potential until the kidnapping and race to the alter.
Book 1 of the Kings of the Blood series, followed by .....? The story is about Viktor, the Supreme Commander of the Kings of the Blood, a 3 thousand year old chosen by Zeus himself to save humanity with the help of other kings handpicked by Victor. The story explains to us how the kings came to be and how they must drink blood to survive. They also have to find the love of their life within the 3 thousand years they will live, otherwise they will seize to exist. They know when their other half is born but are forbidden to contact her until she herself seeks them out. This was how Kat found Viktor and soon fell in love with him, for absolutely no other reason than for the fact that she was meant for him and he was meant for her. blah, blah, blah.
The story is sweet and interesting as it's based in Greek mythology, but so damn cheesy, too. And what's up with Zeus and the gods being so benevolent and kind in this story? They're total assholes, all of them. Anyone who's read Greek and Roman mythology knows: never trust the gods; whether it be words or gifts, it's never a good thing.
This is an OK vampire romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me. It is a totally different, and very interesting, take on vampires -- so I have to give Julia Mills big points on creativity.
In this story/series, the "kings of the blood" were created by the Greek god Zeus, and only periodically take enough blood to sustain them -- never killing any of their donors. They are basically immortal soldiers created by Zeus, and their main goal is eradicating evil. Each of the kings has one fated mate, and they know when that person is born, but cannot contact them. They have to wait until their mate finds them on their own. If their mate doesn't find them before they reach 3,000 years old, they will die. I thought this was interesting, but also a bit creepy that Viktor knew so much about Katarina, and could basically watch her whenever he wanted -- seemed kind of stalkerish to me. It was sweet how he was able to comfort her when she was in pain, though.
There was quite a bit of violence in this story, a bit more than I like. I get that Viktor and the other kings were warriors for Zeus, but I would have preferred for the violence to be a little less descriptive. Maybe just tell us they beheaded the bad guy, but don't describe it?
I thought that Katarina accepted she was Viktor's mate a little too easily. After all, the story he told her would have been really unbelievable to anyone. I get that she was made specifically to be his mate, so she was automatically attracted to him, but she believed his story immediately -- and I didn't think that was likely.
I liked Viktor, and loved that Katarina was the most important person in his world. It was sweet how he was willing to do anything to protect her, even sacrifice himself.
I will probably read the rest of the series, since I think Julia's take on vampires is so interesting. I doubt that I would read the other books, though, if they weren't available for free with Kindle Unlimited.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
CAPTIVATING, COMPELLING AND DIVINELY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: Viktor: Heart of Her King Series: Kings of the Blood Designation: Book of Series, Standalone Novella Author: Julia Mills My Rating: FIVE SUPREMELY ENTERTAINING STARS***** Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! I love it! I've been a diehard Julia Mills fan for years. After having read and enjoyed every single book Mills has ever published, I can declare, Viktor: Heart of Her King, the first release in her stunning new Kings of the Blood Series, is extraordinary! All you have to do is whisper the words, handsome alpha males, courageous warriors of good, fated mates and Julia Mills, in the same breath, and I'm all over it! But before I continue, please allow me to explain how I rate a book. First, I'd like to say I'm not a professional reviewer, but I do know what I like, what I don't, and most importantly, what I love. It's really very simple but remember, this is only my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. If it's just plain 'gawd awful', it gets a one. If it's a 'hot mess' but shows promise, I rate it a two. If I like it but it needs a little editing love, then I give it a three. If I like it a lot and there are no major problems with the book, but would not reread it, it earns a four. And finally, if I truly love the book and hear the angels sing every time I pick it up, then it has earned a five star rating from me. And I think you know what I'm talking about - the kind of book you just can't seem to put down or stop reading. I think we've all read some of those, but I have to admit, I'm pretty lenient when it comes to editing errors. As long as they are relatively minor, few and far between, and don't distract me from the actual story, then I don't criticize or penalize the author. Hey, everyone makes mistakes. We're all human, right? I sure hope so! Viktor: Heart of Her King is exceptionally well crafted with one of the most unique storylines I've read in quite a while. The premise is stunningly original and remarkably well developed. The narrative is extremely well written in the third person with alternating points of view from the two protagonists. The dialogue is well executed and flows beautifully. There are a few editing errors but none that interrupted the flow of the story. And the final element, the pièce de résistance, is the cast of magnificent characters Mills has given us. They are fascinating, captivating, intriguing, engaging and extraordinarily well developed. They explode from the pages and capture your heart. After reading the prologue, I was completely smitten and irrevocably drawn into the story. By the end of the first chapter, I knew that this series would be one I would remember and reread for many years to come! Three thousand years ago, a courageous and loyal warrior of Greece, Supreme Commander Viktoras, was betrayed by a cowardly traitor and accused of heinous crimes he did not commit. He was judged by the Council of Ancestors and sentenced to die; his years of loyal service and many victories rewarded with only the foulest punishment of his kind. During his trial, he prayed fervently to Athena, the Goddess of War for vindication and justice but received only silence in response to his pleas. He had been deserted and left to suffer his fate alone. No matter his belief in the doom he faced, on the eve of his death, he prayed directly to Zeus, the Father of the Gods, for a miracle to be bestowed upon him. The King of the Gods responded to his plea and granted him life after death. On the thirty-first day after the date of his death, he would arise from his grave. He would draw breath, his heart would once again beat and he would become immortal. Viktoras would be known as 'The Unum', The One, the first King of the Blood. He was sworn to serve a higher purpose and smite the enemies that mortal men could not defeat. Viktoras was also granted the power to call into service those loyal to him and his cause, and make them his brethren and fellow Kings of the Blood. Together, they would form a fraternity unlike any other with the sole purpose of protecting the innocent and those who could not protect themselves. But as in life and the laws of nature, there is always a price and for Viktoras it would be twofold. First, in order to remain immortal, he would need to consume blood, life's essence, once every new moon. It must be given willingly and accepted gratefully and only the smallest amount taken in order to replenish his power and the donor must be left unblemished and unharmed. Second, he would be granted by the gods a custos animae, the keeper of his heart, the one woman who can save his soul and breathe life into his dead heart. He will know when she is born into the universe and must wait for her to come to him. Once they meet and upon her recognition of him as her mate, she will become his only source of nourishment. Without her acceptance and life essence, he will die. But the mating must be completed before nightfall on the anniversary of his three thousandth year or he will cease to exist. And so, with the promise of life after death from the King of the Gods, Viktoras, the Supreme Commander, surrendered to his fate, gave over his spirit to the gods and Viktor Katsaros was born. Now, fast forward three millennia to six months prior to the anniversary of his three thousandth year and read the story of how charismatic Viktor Katsaros finally meets beautiful, savvy Katarina Romalesky, the keeper of his heart. Although Kat may be Viktor's greatest gift, she is also his greatest weakness of which his greatest enemy is also aware. Unfortunately, even the passing of three thousand years is not enough time to seek revenge and eliminate the heinous enemies who will once again try to manipulate fate in order to bring about the death of the loyal, benevolent warrior Viktoras. Will an ancient enemy triumph again??? We'll see! Sigh.....it's just so darn dreamy! (*swoon*) No spoilers from me but I will say this....Handsome, courageous warrior of good and immortal King of Blood-check! Curvaceous, intelligent heroine-check! A cast of magnificent characters-check! Danger, drama, lies, deceit, betrayal, suspense and heinous malevolent enemies-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, dreamy romance and steamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for Book Two! This is standalone novella with no cliffhanger. Each book will feature a different King of Blood and will chronicle the story of him finding, and hopefully mating, the keeper of his heart. Oh, and FYI, the heroes in this series are not vampires, they are Kings of Blood! Read the book and you'll see what I mean! What did I like about this book? Everything! What didn't I like? Not a darn thing! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am - to all adult readers who love paranormal/supernatural romance! I am so in love with this series!!! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Even though I love Ms Mills works, I am not a fan of vampire books and was slow to pick this book up to read. I am sorry I dithered. It is not a vampire story but so much more. Ms Mills has once again written something so engaging and interesting I could not stop reading until the end. Such a diverse world from ancient Greece to modern day and with some seriously interesting characters. Gods of old, baddies, mates of the heart and the tense times of these Kings of the Blood, whilst they wait for the one made especially for them to be born and come to them when of age. I cannot even imagine what that must be like for these men, century after century with nothing but each other until their custos animae is born, let alone old enough to meet them. The only thing letting this down is a lack of thought as there is no mention of Kats business ever again. It ceases to exist. My only concern was once Katarina meets Viktor this savvy business woman disappears. Who is running the business whilst she converts (30 days) and then goes on honeymoon. A short statement about this would have been helpful. Does she put someone in charge?, does Viktor send one of his men? I cannot wait to read all of these Kings of the Blood stories.
This is Viktor and Katarina's story . Viktor was put on trial for something he was not guilty of and sentenced to death . But he believes so much in his Gods that he knows they will help . All during the trial he hears nothing from his Gods but never gives up hope . At the last second he hears from Zeus that he is not to worry that he will die but will be brought back on the night of the 31st day . Told that he should expect his mate to come to him before his 3000 birthday and that he will know when she is born all he can do is to keep doing and living the right way while he awaits her . Kat's life is upended by the lose of her parents but thanks to her dream man that seems to give her strength to keep going she knows that she will overcome all . But that is not to say that her lose doesn't tear her apart ! Viktor feels her lose just as badly as she does and knowing that he cannot go to her he sends feeling of comfort and then in her dreams tries to help there also . There is drama , pain , and trouble all in this amazing story ! This is well written and strongly recommended to all !!
OMG what a great story! First of all Julia Mills is a very good author...anything with her name is going to be good. This story just took me away to a different place, the way great stories should. Viktor the King of the Blood, the Supreme Commander live so long waiting for his mate. He was born in the days of the God's, Zeus and the those God's, they made him and made his mate Katarina for him. This story was so believable and felt real! It's like Ms. Mills just sat down and told you the story of her family member. All the Kings of the Blood are righteous heroes in their own right...but Viktor is their leader...immortals that need blood to survive, but not vampires! Only once a month they drink a small amount of blood. He needed to find his mate before a certain time or he would die for real...and he finds her. She feels like she's always known him...you just need to read this story and like me your going to be hooked! I feel like I rambled on with this review but that's what this story did to me!
The author did not live up to potential of the story. There is Greek Mythology. Zeus grants immortality to a honorable warrior who was wrongfully tried and suffered a tortuous death. Zeus resurrects the warrior whose mission is to fight evil. He needs a small offering of blood to maintain his virility. Zeus promises him a mate who will be his light, the keeper of his heart, and savior of immortality if she willingly agrees or he faces death on his 3000th year of existence. But she must come to him. Their bond is so great that he will know when she is born and feel her no matter the physical distance. He can send her telepathic communications and appear in her dreams. She was made for him as promised by Zeus.
Of course, their is an enemy that wishes to destroy the warrior. The confrontation was too anticlimactic.
Close to 3000 years ago, Viktor was sentenced to death and then revived into a King of the Blood. Kat lost her parents and is now determined to make her father's company successful. He needs her to survive, but someone from his past is determined to ruin it. Will Viktor find her before it is to late? Will Kat accept who and what he is?
Loved the different spin to this book when it came to Julia Mills writing. I loved the fact that Viktor was so dedicated to her and was determined to not force her to choose what benefited him. Loved the fact that while Kat could have been struggling with grief, she proved that she was strong and determined. Great read and cannot wait to start the next one!

I just thought vampire stories had become blasé and predictable. Julia Mills has completely turned that around and given this genre that's as old as time a face lift, literally. The Kings of the Blood are specifically selected, born of the Gods with rules to live by written in blood. They're also fated to one person to save their soul. Compelling, panty melting, intriguing. You won't find a better scenerio than what's been created here. This is way past a 5*, but it's what I'm limited to. Congratulations to Julia Mills on an outstanding book and the beginning of a stellar series that I hope runs for awhile.
I started reading this book and almost quit in the first few pages as the deaths then GRIEF scenes were so far away from what I know happen in today's world. I also thought the author repeated some lines ie she was the youngest business owner to be in Fortune magazine. However it was a very different take on vampires, Carpathians, or Kings of the Blood that this book deals with. The story itself was interesting and after the rocky start I was able to finish it last night. If you like paranormal romance you should enjoy this book.
This had the potential to be so much more. The writing was good, and I was really intrigued by the storyline. Involving Greek mythology and vampires, this could have been so awesome. As it stands, it was just your standard romance. Fated mares, kidnapping, falling in love, all happening with a very short and quick time. The story was still good and I enjoyed, but there was so much more that could have been done.
I love this book, the writing flowed well and characters was amazing. The book grabs you from the beginning to the end with just enough suspense to keep it interesting. It had a different twist to it regarding vampires that I adored. What was extremely important was the blood brother connection and woven together. I'm looking forward to read the next two installment in this series.
Viktor Katsaros, nearly three thousand years, old King of Blood, made by Zerus himself. Promised by Zerus that he would meet his one and only. Katrina Romanisky, has inherited her parents bussiness and she shot to the top, with all her tech abilities. Fated Mates Viktor And Katrina forever.
I enjoyed this book very much. Kat and Victor were made for each other and super sweet together. It is very romantic to think that there is one person that was born to be your soul mate.
I really enjoyed this book, most "vampire" type books annoy me as they are all so cookie cutter but this one does not fit the usual mold. There is such a unique twist on how these vampires were created and their purpose which is wrapped around the Greek mythology that is woven into this story.
Viktor's book..WOW! Truly what a great book!!!! The Kings of the Blood is an absolute must read. What they went through and what they continue to go through to meet their mate is mind boggling but loved every minute!
Miss Mills is the queen of my heart she has done it again with a new and exciting series. This one will not only melt your heart but your soul as well.
