A comic book series is rarely brought to a close so perfectly, but Sweet Tooth does it. The plotlines are tidily wrapped up; we learn what happens to our favourite hybrid and human characters in the future. Unfortunately, we encounter loss along the way, but it's expected in a story like this one.
I wanted to point out a few things that stuck out to me in this edition. Initially, I was hesitant about the storyline of the Gods in Alaska. It felt a little hokey, but as the humans interfere with the gods resting places, as humans are apt to do, it feels like it makes sense. The gods decide that a race with more innocence is needed, hence the hybrids. As an animal lover, I can agree with the inherent innocence found in animals.
My second point is that I was terrified Bobby was going to die through the whole book. I think he became my favourite character. Bobby was so sweet, and I can sympathize with the feeling of being so tired and just wanting to rest. I was so happy that he made it, or I would have cried a lot more than I did. Some parts that got me were Johnny's death and Jepperd's demise. Even the end got me a little bit, as you see these character's lives play out.
Lastly, maybe it's just the Canadian in me. But seeing two hockey players work together and skate down a river in a post-apocalyptic world to save the hybrid children was incredibly heartwarming.
Sweet Tooth is definitely in my top three comic book series, if not claiming #1. I have all six issues of Sweet Tooth: The Return #1, and I look forward to reading them next. However, I don't know what to expect as everything was tied together so beautifully. 10/10!
