The National Geographic Society (NGS), headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world.
Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, archaeology, and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation, and the study of world culture and history. The National Geographic Society's logo is a yellow portrait frame—rectangular in shape—which appears on the margins surrounding the front covers of its magazines and as its television channel logo. Through National Geographic Partners (a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company), the Society operates the magazine, TV channels, a website, worldwide events, and other media operations.

This book houses a collection of the most popular photos from the @natgeo Instagram account. Each photo is it’s own little world to fall into and it’s a hard book to walk away from. A wonderful choice for a bit of armchair traveling.

To be honest this isn't the book I read. The one I read doesn't have a barcode and not found on goodreads BUT I needed to log something so it counts for my goodreads challenge and this was the closest thing.

The night before I picked up this lovely art book from the travel shelves of Talking Leaves Book in Buffalo, New York, I had a discussion with my grandfather about how one of the best ways a brand can keep itself relevant in this age is to respect its demographics and a changing world by embracing social media rather than pretentiously ragging on it. This gorgeous book proves my point.

Here, National Geographic takes their most popular and fantastic Instagram photos and showcases them in a glossy, beautiful square book: @NatGeo: The Most Popular Instagram Photos. In places, they include some of the comments, which is a nice touch, and they always use the original captions. National Geographic, or @natgeo, is—as Goodreads states—the world’s top non-celebrity account on Instagram, with nearly 50 million followers and over one billion likes on its 7,000+ images posted. This book shows us why—National Geographic has, with throwbacks, iconic images, and new ones, stayed relevant by taking its brand to social media and encouraging engagement, innovation, awe, and laughter through their classic, iconic photography. It’s a worthwhile addition to any travel or photography shelf.

There's something incredibly ironic about a book full of Instagram photos. However as the original platform is generally updated on more frequent basis when compared to any book publication, the differences in the subject and content of the photos when compared to a more traditional photo book create perhaps the most striking contrast. As appropriate, each photo portrays an (at times) limited scope, capturing a single individual or element as opposed to sweeping landscapes. Of course there are lovely locales dispersed throughout, but the focus seems more towards capturing the beauty in everyday life than epic life-changing events. I found that aspect particularly poignant.

When reading / looking, the relation to Instagram can largely be forgotten, save for the few pictures with include a limited selection of comments. The experience is much more pleasurable without reading these comments, although the context surrounding any of the ThrowBack Thursday (TBT) posts often contained interesting tidbits.

I really enjoyed seeing some of the best Instagram photos from National Geographic Photographers. They have really inspired me in my own photography and really enthused me ahead of my own trip to Yellowstone! I also like the biographies of the Photographers at the back of the book, as well as showing you the number of likes each photograph achieved. A great book if you are a fan of Photography, especially of landscapes, portraits, sealife and wildlife.

It's a bit strange to peruse a book of Instagram photos, but blogs have launched book careers for authors, so I suppose it is not that strange. Reading it was a calming experience, and most of the photos were worth a look.

This book is an excellent representation of what Instagram should be--a celebration of global beauty photgraphed and documented by National Geograpic photographers. This book is a spectacular reminder of so many places I still have to visit in my lifetime.

Great book showing the most popular photos on Instagram and I thought they would all be examples of modern photography but it seems that many people post old photos on Instagram as there were examples of some early 50's and 60's photos.
Good book to give inspiration for photographers or just to admire some great photos.

This is basically a photo book of National Geographic photos that have been posted on instagram. Like all Nat Geo photos, they are amazing. It 's interestingly edited with photos that are of different things and yet resemble each other on facing pages. Interesting, beautiful and thought provoking.
