Lady of the House

Rate this book
The man might be the head of the family, but the woman is definitely the head of the house. Pastor Margie has been doing just fine running her house, as well as the house of the Lord, New Day Temple of Faith, all by her lonesome. As a matter of fact, her motto has been, “I can do better all by myself.” Well, certain members of the congregation beg to differ. Some of them have been nagging at Margie for so long about finding a help mate that she just might be crazy enough to give it a try. Once her congregation learns the method in which she goes about seeking a man for the house, they might worry for her sanity. After all, a woman of the cloth would have to be certifiably nuts to agree to go on a reality dating show in order to find a husband. Margie assures her members that she will be just fine, because the Lord will guide her. That may be so, but a former member comes across the miles to offer her help as well. Usually the voice of reason who can speak truth and sense into any situation, even Mother Doreen might not be able to handle this situation. As Margie and Doreen navigate the pitfalls of reality television, will the voices of the producers, production team, and not to mention the men—some of whom aren’t even saved—drown out the voice of God?

Mother Doreen is now First Lady Doreen, but not all members of the new congregation are receptive to her. Just when she finds out that her beloved husband is keeping a secret from her, she gets a call from her Sistergirlfriend Pastor Margie…and the rest is a whirlwind.

Pastor Margie wakes up one day and figured out that she's in bed of a companion, so she goes on a reality dating show in order to find a husband. Many people are appalled at the idea of this, including some of the crew.

What transpired after the first day can only be described as divine intervention. Pastor Margie may have started off with one mission in mind, but ended up defining her true purpose for being on this show. In today's society, we have to meet people where they are in order to show them how to have a relationship with their Creator.

I loved this book and the direction it went it. I highly recommend that you check it out for yourself and give it

I have read all of the New Day Divas series, Always Divas and the Forever Divas series. Pastor Margie has been an integral character throughout the previous novels.
In Lady of the House, we get to see Pastor Margie in a different light. We see the other side of the camera of being a preacher. Many times, we see the confidence when we seek counsel. However, now we are seeing Pastor Margie is all woman and just like the rest of us, have moments of insecurities.
I had no idea, another reader fave, Mother Doreen would be such an integral part of the read. Together, their interaction made for some entertaining scenes.
This was a very different read to end the series. It was lighter but the second half of the novel really drew me in. There was a funeral scene and the author took the time to give us the entire eulogy. I believe this will benefit someone who experiences the loss of someone who was far from perfect.
All in all, Lady of the House had some creative moments and plugs for the other novels, as a farewell salute. Some readers may not fully appreciate this end to such a dramatic series, but other writers/readers will.

Here are two of my favorite quotes:
"...choose to allow those who do believe in you, who do encourage you, and who do support you to give you the energy and motivation to succeed." Pg. 184, Lady of the House.

"Testimonies heal and save lives, so if people hold their testimonies hostage, someone could miss out on their breakthrough." Pg. 200, Lady of the House

Pastor Margie of New Day Temple of Faith is used to running the church she is pastor over all by herself. But like most single Christian Women, others in the church are pestering her to be married. Pastor Margie receives a phone call. She is wanted to be on a reality dating show. After praying and talking to her best Friend, Mother Doreen Frye, she accepts, much to the dismay of her parishioners.
So Pastor Margie and Mother Doreen are flown to the house where Pastor will meet each of the 12 men, and like the reality shows on TV, everything but them in the bathroom is filmed. As Pastor Margie talks to the men, eventually it comes out her true reason for being there. I enjoyed the story, as always, and I especially enjoyed how the story showed that even pastors are human and have human needs, desires and insecurities. It was a change to the author’s previous work, but I felt it was a pleasant change and you can see the continued growth to the author’s writing. A spectacular farewell to a great series.

Great Book

As always, another great read. I’m so glad this book shows pastor’s and mother’s of the church as humans. We all sin.

Enjoyable

Outstanding book that portraits ministers and first ladies as human beings with the same issues as those in the pews.
