After many women go missing outside Mystic Glades, one escapes to get help, in this romantic suspense thriller.
When he took the job, Zack Scott heard about the horrors waiting in the swamp. So when Kaylee Brighton dashed into the road like the devil was on her tail, the new police chief gave her a safe place to recover. Imprisoned for months, Kaylee could lead Zack to her captor. Though Zack swore to protect her, only Kaylee knew the darkness that awaited them if she returned. She couldn’t begin to understand what drove Zack, but she knew the importance of having him by her side. Because it wasn’t enough for Kaylee to have escaped. Now it was time to take back her life.

Hostage Negotiation by Lena Diaz is a 2016 Harlequin publication. Zack Scott literally runs down Kaylee Brighton as she is running for life after escaping her captor. Despite her many injuries and the emotional damage she is suffering, Kaylee is determined to get her life back. But, before she can move forward, she knows she must help find the man who responsible for her captivity in order to save others victims and see justice done.
This is a fast paced and action packed story and is harrowing at times. I liked Kaylee’s tenacity and Zack’s strong, but compassionate personality.
But, with so much in play, the character development suffered and the romance was not exactly heated, but Zack and Kaylee did forge an emotional bond that might have been more appropriate for the storyline.
All the same, Zack could be really sexy at times, especially with those well timed winks. His temperament was perfect for Kaylee.
The action is nonstop, with some pretty intense moments, which was the saving grace for the novel, and makes it worth checking out.
Overall, this quick read and enjoyable novel of suspense.
A fantastic 'locked room' mystery in a place with plenty of danger. It turns out, surviving a plane crash was a minor situation compared to what Dex faced in the swamp. If you love action, romance, and locked room type mysteries, this is the book for you!
Kaylee was abducted, tortured, and escaped from a cold-blooded killer. Zack, as the new sheriff, found her when she ran out of the woods into his truck. In the middle of the Everglades the problem was being able to find the camp where she had been held. Incredible courage allowed her to escape. This book was a page turner keeping me awake until I finished it. Intense suspension second makes this book one of the best I've read. Well written, it explores the twisted world Kaylee lived in for weeks. Lena Diaz will make a name for herself in this genre. Writing a review is important to me so others will read ad appreciate this author.
Zach is new to the town as the Sheriff of the Police Dept. He does not have any deputies yet. He is finishing up putting out a campfire when he hears a scream. Thinking it is just an owl he ignores it until he hits a woman who has just ran out in front of him. While at the hospital waiting to see how she is doing. He finds out that there is a serial killer in their towns mix. Or it is a possibility.
This book had a lot of twists and turns and was really a good read. I did not want to put it down at all.
I really enjoyed this intriguing romance. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 5* rating. This pulled me in pretty much from the start and the action started from there. It kept pulling me back with it's twists and turns. While the romance is clean, there is a lot of violence. This is at least the 2nd of this author's work that I've read and I was not disappointed. I'd like to read more of her work.
This is the 1st book I read by Lena Diaz. This book's storyline was okay. The action in this story was okay. Zack's character was okay. Kaylee's character was okay. The ending was okay.
"This was a enjoyable quick little read! It grabbed my attention immediately and I couldn't put it down, and I loved that while this story had some intense subject materials, It never went too far. I will have to keep an eye out for more books from this author!" (4-starred review @ Harlequin.com).
Really good book. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Great suspense. The only thing I wasn't convinced about was the love part. I would have preferred if the author would have shown it as them having a new beginning instead of the typical getting married and "I Love you" part.
What an exciting story! It is very suspenseful, moves along at a cracking pace and has a satisfactory ending. Kaylee is a very brave woman, and has a tremendous skill that her kidnapper could never have realised, which aids in his capture. This is a very worthwhile read.
What a great book! Hostage Negotiation was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Though my first book by Lena Diaz, it definitely won't be my last.
