Sarah Sullivan will do whatever it takes to make her summer youth program permanent. But when she's tasked to teach the teens basic kitchen skills, her hope goes up in flames. Not knowing the first thing about cooking, Sarah needs help. Smelling the delicious aromas coming from her neighbor's apartment one night, she thinks she's found her answer. Alec Seaver might know his way around pots and pans, but the lone-wolf widower doesn't want anything to do with the free-spirited beauty next door. But after he becomes Sarah's reluctant partner, Alec realizes that she might just be the key ingredient missing from his life.
An enjoyable read with characters who have chosen to live life with wholesome virtues, never shirking the responsibilities and duties of family and community. I liked the family focus, the charitable spirit, and the candid and uplifting assertions that healing comes though God’s grace, mercy, and love.
Another book for CFRR and another new author for me. I definitely liked this better than the other Love Inspired Romances I've read recently. For one the faith content is much better as they continually point Alec back to God. As well, I felt the characters had more depth and more of a backstory too. I really loved seeing Alex grow and for Sarah to pull him out of his hole he had been hiding in. Although, I would have liked to see Sarah grow a bit, I feel like she just helped Alec, but Alec didn't do much to help her grow.
With that being said, both Alec and Sarah struggled with over commitment and not learning how to say no and take a break. I think they really needed to work on rest and letting someone else take on some of their burdens. Alec tried to get Sarah to slow down a bit, but as usual she doesn't stop for long. I mean she was in the emergency room twice in this book and she just jumps right back in. I wish the author would have focused more on that and had Sarah learn to rely more on others. Alec does a little bit better and he gets his sister to help him out some.
I know those are some qualms I have, but overall I did really like the book and I think I would try this author again because her stories had more depth. I just think the characters need to think a bit more and learn how to rest.
I loved this book. Alec lost his pregnant wife in a fire. Sarah's fiancé left her 6 weeks before the wedding. He doesn't care for teenagers. She is doing a summer program teaching teenagers how to cook--except she doesn't cook!
This was an incredibly sad book even though it some how managed to make a happy ending. The back story that was responsible for most of the sadness was more than creepy. It is not a book i would read again and i really dont recommend it
This is the 2nd book I read by Lisa Jordan. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the Christian ✝️ theme in this story. I liked Sarah's character. I liked Alec's character. I liked the ending.
Lakeside Romance by Lisa Jordan. Alec Seaver was a firefighter. When his house was on fire he couldn't get his pregnant wife out of the house. That was four years ago. He now sells real Estate. He is still healing. Sarah Sullivan rents an apartment upstairs from Alec. Sarah works with at risk kids from her church. She get Alec to help teach the teenagers cooking. In return Sarah cleans Alec uncle house since he is in a nursing home. Romance happens but not before several things happen.
" There are some humorous scenes which really help the reader bond with the hero and heroine. Real-life struggles and situations abound in this pleasing read" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
