Writing romance sounds fascinating. Huh?

I'm a writer. I'm boring. Day after day I sit behind a word processor making up people in my head. Why do I do it? I love it. My husband, Dave, gets up in the morning, puts on a suit and heads out into the ice and cold of Ballarat's winter. (Sadly I live in one of the tiny parts of Australia that qualifies as cold.) I make myself another cup of coffee, head up to my study, choose what music I want and sit and daydream. And I get paid for doing it. Hooray!

My first attempt at writing romance, 'Dare To Love Again', a Medical Romance, was published by Harlequin Mills and Boon in 1990. It still stands today as a monument to my family's ability to survive on cheese sandwiches and spaghetti.

Since then I've written over 80 Romances for Harlequin Mills and Boon, with more on the drawing board. (I used a pseudonym - Trisha David - for the first few Romances but suffered with a split personality and have since reverted to being Marion Lennox all the time.) In between romances, I've co-authored a non-fiction history, (I love local history) done the odd (very odd) spot of housework and done a heap of travelling - research :-)

I come from a farming community. You can probably tell this from my books. There's not a skyscraper in sight. I'm very much a pets person. Chloe and Harry were my constant canine companions for many years as I wrote, demanding walks and air freshener at frequent intervals. Sadly I lost them, and for a while I vowed not to get another. My heart was broken and my study smelled so clean! But.. The cat and I missed them so badly we weakened and bought Mitzi. Mitzi's a black and silver mini-schnauzer who makes me and the cat laugh. Expect to find her in future stories.

If you're interested in formalities, I hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a teaching diploma. I have a couple of kids and a huge extended family who look on me with affectionate tolerance. Marion? The crazy one who talks to people in her head... I've had nine nominations for the Rita, winning twice, and fourteen for the Australian Book of the Year. After years of thinking of my writing as a hobby I guess I finally now qualify as a `real' writer.

Thank your for taking the trouble to check out my web page. Now try my books. We might even end up having fun together. And write to me. I show my family - `See? Real people do like the things that go in in my head.'

Jo never imagined that her years of moving from one foster family to another would end with her in Ireland, and having inherited of all things, a castle! Though it turns out she's not alone in this endeavour either, as the handsome landowner who pulled her out of a bog earlier that day turns out to be a co-heir to the same inheritance as her. They share a common ancestor 4 generations back, and are named together in the will. For Jo, it's more than she ever dreamed of, but being suddenly wealthy doesn't change the fact that she's lived without love for so long in her life. As she and Finn connect over their new fortune, their friendship gradually turns into more. But after a lifetime of never belonging, will she find her heart and her home with Finn?

This was a really lovely, gentle and sweet romance. It felt very old fashioned, though with some modern twists, like Jo's love of motorbikes and her unconventional looks and upbringing. It reminded me a bit of a Rosamunde Pilcher novel (she was a British romance author) with the flow of the story and the descriptions of life on a country estate in Ireland. There is a rather fractious (at first) housekeeper who isn't keen on Jo at all, as a consequence of her poor relationship with Jo's mother. She was a drug addicted party girl who gave Jo up early on in America, yet never allowed her to be adopted by any of her foster families. It's Jo's grandfather that has bequeathed the house to her. Finn is a country farmer, a poor relation of the family, but the closest living relative to Jo's grandfather, hence his claim to the estate as well. They come from such different backgrounds, yet find they have common interests. Though at first they plan to sell the house, the discovery of so much of their heritage including old family portraits and tapestries makes Jo realize that she could have belonged somewhere after all. It's a painful realization for her, yet Finn helps her to deal with those feelings. I liked the two of them together and the way they connected. The locals have a vested interest in what will happen to the estate as well, and this factors into their decisions. Of course they have some conflict, in particular with their difficulty in owning up to their real feelings for each other but eventually they get things sorted out and we get our happy ending. Since this is part of the Harlequin Romance line, there is no on page sex, just some kissing scenes. There is not a lot of drama or action, but it's got likable characters and was quite an enjoyable read for me. 4 stars.

The love story between Breezy and Jake was amazing! I had forgotten how much I loved Brenda's and Love Inspired books.I am definitely going to have to pick up more of them in the future. This story was an absolute blessing and I am so glad I chose to pick it up and read it today. Its for sure a page turner that I didn't want to put down.

I really liked the main characters, their sweetness and instant compatibility, and how they weren't 'to type.' But the writing felt so cyclical and repetitive, and in peeve news, the overuse of ellipses was a distraction/detraction.

And there was so much of the book spent in these repeating loops of 'is this how I'm feeling? this is how I'm feeling. I'm feeling... feelings.' which then barreled to the HEA in a chapter and a half and it wasn't nearly enough after all that groundwork and build-up.

I like to imagine the leads happy in their castle, making it amazing, but the book itself didn't get me there.

"This love story has a few unexpected twists and is even exciting at times. Lennox’s imagination shines with her worldbuilding. The gorgeous landscape of Ireland is an added bonus" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
