This is an AMAZING story. A tale about two people who very much love the Lord, who've had hurtful pasts, and they come together to make a beautiful life, not only for themselves, but for troubled kids living on the streets.

Tanner was a runaway foster kid who'd knocked up a girl and was being sucked into a drug ring when Burt - an older man with a mission to help abandoned kids - found him, brought him home to the ranch, and gave him a better life. Now Burt's gone, and Tanner has inherited the ranch, with the stipulation that he carries on Burt's dream of helping hurting teenagers. He just doesn't know how to do that, until he meets Sophie.

Sophie got married at 16 because she was also knocked up, but her family practiced 'tough love' and 'you made your bed, so sleep in it'... which meant her ne'er-do-well husband would blow thru the money and leave her and the kids scrambling to find food to eat and a roof over their heads. Now that she'd widowed, she's taking control of their lives, and turning things around. But taking control means pushing God out of that position... and puts her in the precarious place where she might miss some wonderful blessings.

The book is absolutely, 100% sugarplums and gumdrops. There's no hint of reality to it, not even when Tige shows up and threatens Davy and Beth. We all know it's just for the sake of *drama*, and that in this little world of Richer's, everything is sunshine and roses, people call each other 'beloved' and 'sweetheart', and there is nary an unhappy ending to be found.

But y'know what? I *NEED* a little suspension of reality. I *NEED* to believe there are people out there quoting Bible verses to bolster and encourage one another. I *NEED* a little corny in my life.

So YES - I highly recommend this. And I have the four subsequent books in the series, so I'll be making my way thru the "Wrangler's Ranch" series. If you ever get the chance, I suggest you pick this one up!

Like many books in this genre, we deal with the desire to belong somewhere and with trust issues.

Sophie Armstrong is a single mother to Davy and Beth. Her late first husband was a "big kid" who often didn't seem to consider the results of his actions. Sophie's developed a catering business and relishes being in control and only trusting herself. She doesn't realize how this is affecting her kids.

Beth is a cute, innocent little girl who trusts in the Bible verses she's memorized. But she also longs for many friends. Davy is at the stage where he's beginning to learn that his actions affect others--something he learns more about as he helps out at Wranglers Ranch.

Tanner Johns was a street kid who was taken in and nurtured by Burt. Now that Burt's passed away, Tanner has inherited Wranglers Ranch (with a few stipulations) but feels he's lost the chance for the family he's always wanted. Tanner struggles with knowing he left a pregnant girl behind when he chose to go live with Burt. He also struggles with figuring out how to develop Burt's goals for Wrangler's Ranch, looking at only the big picture instead of being able to break it down into smaller steps.

I really enjoyed The Rancher's Family Wish. I found Tanner to be really a great character. He has had a hard life - being abandoned as a newborn by his birth mother, in and out of foster care, plus living it ruff on the streets as a teen. He was such a caring man, giving away money or meals to the needy or homeless people as he knows how they feel as he was once in their shoes.

All throughout the book, you can tell he desperately wanted a family to call his own as he never had one plus he craves the approval of Sophie when he does things or makes decisions. Tanner was pretty smitten with Sophie from the start pus he was so good with her children. I liked how Beth called him ' Mr Cowboy' all throughout the book.

A short read - 215 pages - but a very good one, none the less. Definitely worth the read if you like heroes who are down on their luck, gets a second chance to better his life, plus craves the love of a good woman and family.

SPOILERS

Another feel good story about the generosity of one man: Burt and his rescue of a street kid.

Years later Tanner Johns, the boy Burt took in, inherits Burt's ranch with the condition to turn it into a place for runaways and/or abused children. In comes Sophie Armstrong and her two children. Sophie is hardly making ends meet with her catering business. Tanner is struggling too as he tries to turn the ranch into a heaven for street children.

Tanner and Sophie helped each other out, become friends, fight their mutual attraction and ironed out some of the pain in each other's pasts. There is guilt and pride and lack of trust. Tanner's past, as expected, has some violence in it, as well as bad decisions with unwanted results which of course come back to threatened Tanner. But the good guys prevailed and we get our happy ending.

I'm enjoying these stories. As a christian I appreciate faith being an important part of the story. I read enough dark, too realistic, faithless books and once in a while it is good to take a break.

The Rancher's Family Wish by Lois Richer. It shows your faith in God can help you get though problems. Tanner Johns as a teen was in foster homes and on the streets. A Rancher took him in. When the rancher died he left the ranch to Tanner. In the will it said for Tanner to open the ranch to troubled kids and street teenagers. Tanner hires Widow Sophie Armstrong to cook and back for the clubs that come out to the ranch for the day. Trust is a big issue for Sophie but her children love Tanner. Tanner past is a big issue. A good read.

"In this Wranglers Ranch book, Sophie’s children and their faith tug at the reader’s heartstrings. The characters demonstrate that everyone has gifts, we just need to recognize and use them" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
