Eldium

Rate this book
Mankind has sprawled untidily through the galaxy. The age old tussle between free enterprise and regulation, power and peace, honor and greed has outgrown the restraints of central government. The merchant alliance seizes and controls what it can while oppressed communities continue to spread ahead of them seeking new planets and systems beyond their strengthening grasp. The quiet appearance of a strange new metal, Eldium, with properties that seem to defy the known laws of physics, threatens to change the uneasy balance of power and finally give the merchants all they need to dominate completely.
A strange mission given to a government captain and the natural suspicion of a senior pilot starts a chain of events that begins to uncover the full implications of this new material. The race is on, sweeping in others that have been struggling against the merchant alliance for generations, including the itinerant people of the Dumas who have been seeking revenge since their home planet was decimated by the ruthlessness of the alliance.
With the merchants marshaling the full power of their resources, can the tiny resistance use Eldium itself to intervene in their plans for final domination?

A great scifi read. The central idea ... eldium ... is my favourite part of the work. An easy read and can definitely recommend it for sci fi fans.
