This book contains a lot of great insights about various doctrines and principles of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. My favorite chapters were probably the chapters on revelation, enduring trials and afflictions, the kingdom of God, the priesthood, and the atonement of Jesus Christ. Every chapter contains precious and valuable eternal truths. I am grateful for President Taylor's example, teachings, and testimony. I was particularly struck by his remarkable moral courage in the face of some severe trials and persecution. I know that John Taylor was a prophet of God.

Really solid, as far as study manuals go. It is nice to have so many quotations from John Taylor in one place and organized by topic. The sources cited can also provide additional resources for further study.

Obviously, as a church manual, these quotes were all carefully selected. This is also, clearly, not a comprehensive or exhaustive resource but it’s a decent starting point.

I read this all the way through, treating it like a novel, as part of my Restoration study regime. I wouldn’t say it is a page-turner but...not many manuals can be described that way anyway haha

As always, sound council and instructions from a Prophet of God, declaring and clarifying the true doctrines of God pertaining to the true laws and ordinances held within his Gospel and His church restored in these the Latter Days and also clarifying the true nature of God. A must read.

Some of the sections were interesting and it is cool to know what teachings came from John Taylor, but I would have preferred more history and obscure teachings. That said, I understand why the Church may not wish to highlight the teachings which are less mainstream today.

I knew so little about John Taylor, but now I feel like I know him. I'm so grateful for his steadfastness and faithfulness. He is a remarkable example of faith and obedience. I loved learning more about the Doctrine of Christ though his words.

I always enjoy the stories that are so prominent in this series. John Taylor was no exception. He also was responsible for a slew of quotes that are still commonly used in the church today.

Excellent book. This devout Mormon prophet spent the last few years of his life in exile while the government was after him for his views on and practice of marriage. Funny that 200 years later the same government is changing its own views about what marriage is. This man, in spite of persecutions, believed all men to be free to live according to their best knowledge. He imparts some if his knowledge in this book, which is a well edited compilation. He states, "If men will divest themselves of bias and prejudice, and prayerfully and conscientiously search after truth, they will find it wherever they turn their attention."

This is a good priesthood manual that I am storing in my main bookshelf. It was great of the Church to compile each president's messages and some instances from their lives.
Pres. Taylor was the third president of the Church and actually died in Kaysville, Utah, west of the school I taught at for 27 years of my life. I went to the spot and home several times. There is a monument there commemorating it.
John Taylor was in the room where Joseph Smith was martyred in 1844.

Chapters 5 and 6 are really good. I am a personal witness that the doctrine within--as well as all of the book in this Gospel Library series--is true. But this particular point of doctrine I have recently come to know better than anything in this world.

I am amazed at the strength of character John Taylor had. I appreciate his forthrightness. I like the comment that he was not the kind of guy that you'd wrestle in fun, he was too majestic for that. It gave me some insight into the kind of man he was.

Did not know much about this Prophet, so it was interesting to learn about him.
