Eddie McCloskey #6

The Dream Machine

They’re watching her dreams…and seeing the future

At a remote federal facility, researchers are watching—literally watching—test subjects’ dreams on computer screens. Alison, a teenage patient, is of particular interest because her dreams seemingly come true.

Eddie McCloskey, paranormal expert, versed in the occult and in debunking bad science, doesn’t put much stock in dreams. He’s studied the paranormal literature as much as anybody, and he’s convinced there’s a perfectly good explanation for all dreams.

But when Alison dreams about a catastrophic accident and a terrible crime, the shadowy federal agents Eddie worked with in Oregon come calling again. Eddie and the feds are racing against the clock. Are the dreams predictions, or merely intimations of what might happen? Can the future be altered?

This is no ghost hunt, but they need Eddie McCloskey’s lateral thinking if they’re going to get the job done here. Because they’ll soon discover there’s something else, something even more sinister, about Alison’s dreams…

The Dream Machine is a paranormal thriller told at a breakneck, unrelenting pace.

I write thrillers. I've studied the masters and hopefully I've learned a few things from them.

Ideas are never in short-supply. Time and talent (or lack thereof) are my only constraints.

My stories don't always fit neatly into categories, but that's what readers seem to like about them.

Pretty interesting. I didn't think I'd like a revisit with the FBI guys after Oregon but this was surprisingly good. Finally Eddie didn't hit on his partner on the case. But still issues with the editing with people's names being switched. White is not the same as Warwick. Maybe the author should quit using similar names that start with the same first letter for his characters, he can't seem to keep them straight.

I have very little respect for authors who refuse to read and edit their material. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but this book, on at least 4 different occasions, used the wrong character names for the person they were writing about. For example, for almost an entire chapter when the author was writing about Dr. Zane, he kept referring to him as "White" instead, who was a psychopathic criminal that was housed at the hospital that Dr. Zane worked at. Talk about confusion!! And, like I said, this happened several times in the book. In addition, there was typos that were hard to ignore....double words, switched words, misspelled words, etc. I know that no book is perfect and I'm okay with that. Authors are human. However, when they become so blatant as to actually interfere with the storyline and confuse readers, that's just wrong. Those type errors should be caught by a simple read through by the author or a GOOD editor or even a friend. They were very obvious and definitely not hard to find! Oh, and I detest the use of the Lord's name in vain and believe me, GD was used on numerous occasions as was the "f" word by a 14 year old dying girl. So not cool, Mr. Ronan.

As for the story itself, it had potential but it drug out too long and got confusing in places because it would jump from one dream to another to another all in an effort to connect the dots so they all fit together in the end. Nope, this is definitely not a book I will recommend to any of my friends or other readers. Sorry!

Eddie is in a happy place, reconnected with his friends and is relationship is ready for the next step. Then his federal agency friends come a calling and he is whisked away to assist them in a future predicting dream case. Another good story, with Eddie way out of his comfort zone.

Evan Ronan has brought his readers another fast paced Eddie McCloskey supernatural adventure with his usual dash of wink wink humor, that only Eddie can deliver, and intense moments with Eddie’s temporary partner Agent Manetti as they try to save lives and solve the latest mystery. On top of all the drama of assisting the FBI on another special ops Eddie tries to keep his lady love Sumiko from losing it and running from the door and calling it quits.

Eddie is known as a Ghost Hunter and although his expertise is in ghost hunting or debunking ghost sightings or hauntings he is sometimes roped into an investigation that tends to be a bit off topic but still within the realm of the “unexplained”; book four “The Hysteria” is a good example. That’s exactly what happens here in book 6: The Dream Machine. Here Eddie is not hunting ghost but rather hunting for answers and he’s a bit dubious about one of the questions that he’s looking for answers to; namely, can someone actually predict the future and if so, can it be altered?

I really enjoy reading the Eddie McCloskey series and one of the reasons is that every book in the series could be a standalone. One doesn’t actually need to read the others to enjoy or understand Eddie but even if you don’t need to read the others I’m certain a reader would be compelled to after reading one of the books. I know because it happened to me. Another reason I enjoyed the books is that each Eddie McCloskey book is not derivative of the last book. While each book deals with some sort of supernatural or other worldly events they are not always dealing with same form of event and new characters are always being introduced and occasions we get an appearance from a character we have already met in a previous book. Which so happens here in book 6 with a Agent Riehl and Agent Megan Turner, whom we met in book 4, popping in just at the right time.

Well !

Love the series, Eddie is an awesome character, as is anyone thrown in the mix. This book however was not my favorite, to much about previous story in this one. It was slow in the middle. It was more questionable than suspenseful.

Great series

Can't wait for the next book in Eddie's journey. Good storyline, I prefer his work with Stan on actual paranormal mysteries. This too was a great plot, only I had it figured half way in. Great editing, great author. Thank you Mr. Ronan

Good read

Not quite as good as the others but fast paced with great plot twists and interesting plot line. It seemed to be missing something the other story's had but can't put my finger on itb
