This book promises poetry and prose of light, darkness, steampunk and superhero’s and it delivers on each one of those things. I’ve never read steampunk before and I was a little unsure if I’d enjoy the genre. I had visions of Clockwork Orange going through my mind, but the way Cameron Lincoln writes pulls you into this magical world where you can hear and smell the goings on around you and you want to savour them for a long time to come. The longer prose in the book were titbits reminding the reader of what a fantastic storyteller this author is and one which stood out for me was Treat with its suspense and unexpected twists and turns. The poem Illusion broke me a little as it reflected how I see myself a lot and the poem Always is one which will stay with me forever.
This book brings so many emotions to the forefront of the heart and is perfect to dip in and out of.
One I will come back and read over and over again.
Cameron has the most amazing way of describing the ordinary so that it appears anything but. The stories contained within this collection kept my attention and his poetry is outstanding. A great book to pick up when time is precious. Think of it as a mix of different treats for you to dive into.
Sweetest Nothings is the latest book from the Author Cameron Lincoln. Written in slightly different formant to his previous publications, this book showcases tales from a selection of different genre alongside his ever present talent for poetry. This is a heady mix of strange worlds, tastes of the macabre and indulgent erotica. There is definitely something for everyone. There aren’t many Authors, in my opinion, that can turn their hand to writing in multiple genre and do it exceptionally well. Cameron has this ability to draw the reader into whatever world he has created. This book emphasises that ability in abundance. From Steampunk to Poetry, Superhero fantasy to the most decadent Erotica. Every page captures the imagination and entices it to run wild with possibilities. As much as I profess to love the poetry, and always will, there is a tale that stands out to me as the gem in this book. Albion. Written in the increasingly popular Steampunk style this story quickly had its hooks into me and wouldn’t let go. In just a few short pages I was immersed in mystery, intriguing characters and a back story that, if I had my way, Cameron would be writing more of this instant. So lost in this world I became that after reading the final word I scoured the rest of the book for more. It is written so effortlessly well that I believe this direction would not be a foolish path to take, should Cameron wish to. Another short story that stood out for me was Treat. A darker side to his writing, we are shown a glimpse into the macabre. An atmospheric tale of murder and consequence that will keep you guessing till it reaches a surprising conclusion. If, like me you enjoy the erotic side of Cameron’s work there are a number of tantalising treats to indulge in; but might I suggest Drought and Welcome Home. Both are equally delicious with decadent moments, not only written to elicit a reaction but to entice the reader to want to close their eyes and feel every word. I promise there’ll be teeth marks in those bottom lips ladies. Every encounter, every tale, every word, just reiterates my faith in Cameron’s abilities as a writer. As exceptional as he is already I would love to see more of his fictional style. To dive into the fantastical worlds that magnificent mind of his creates. I am already excited to see what he comes up with next. I have a feeling there is much more to come.
Wow!!! What a complete and utter diversity of wickedly delicious poems and short stories. I loved rereading some of my all time favourite poems and stories by Cameron, like Always, Pure Heart and especially The Parliament of Emily which was a part of the #PYB Framed anthology. Sweetest Nothings is full of new treats as well that I would recommend anyone to sample. The short story Albion I really got drawn into, it was altogether beautifully sad. I absolutely adored the relationship that Abigail had with her father and finished reading this story with tears in my eyes. I can not find enough words to describe how I felt about the short stories Unity and Welcome Home, these two were my favourites. I found them to be enthralling and captivating, a simply beautiful sensual dance of words capturing and portraying sexual dominance. One short story that I would love to to be a full length novel would be Superseding Trevor, I loved the concept and twists in the storyline I was certainly gripped and I'm eager to read more about these superheroes. One thing I found in reading this collection, from the shortest poem to the longest story Cameron Lincoln imparts so much emotion into his words you can only be taken away on the tide of his work. Thank you so much Mr Lincoln for another slice of reading heaven.
Once again Cameron Lincoln has created a beautiful mixture of poems and short stories. From steampunk spies to modern day super heroes this book covers a vast array of themes.
Steampunk is a genre of science fiction set in historical settings often featuring steam powered machinery over modern technology. The first story in this book is 100% steampunk inspired.
Throughout the book Cameron displays his appreciation of the female of the species in poems such as Adored.
Cameron is able to flit between genres and this book showcases his talent. Its a book that I could pick up and just flick through and read a poem or story depending on my mood. I tend to favour his poems over the stories but I am more familiar with them thanks to his social media sites. Either way this was a joy to pick up and read.
Sweetest Nothings by Cameron Lincoln was truly a fantastic read! A beautifully written collection of prose and poetry that just envelops you with a hint of erotic delights, a little mystery and even some superhero fun! I must admit reading it had me sighing at the brilliant poetry placed throughout the book and a few of the short stories. Finishing each of them with a ...wow! I have always been a fan of Cameron's style of writing. He has a talent for descriptiveness that pulls the reader into each world he has wonderfully created. This book needs to be on all your bookshelves or in your Kindle! Grab your copy today it truly is....Just...wow!
