An interesting SciFi thriller that will surely keep you on edge from beginning to end!
Metamorphosis When all is lost, there is always a plan B
Metamorphosis is an interesting book, to say the least. It is the story of a beautiful woman (Cindy Jackson) who is taken advantage of and left for dead by a corrupt politician to satisfy his own desires. Cindy with the help of her loyal friend David plots her revenge on her attackers and through a serum that David has created, turns into a beautiful version of herself. This is where Cindy/Cynthia become alter egos. The story follows her progression from an innocent rape victim into a vengeful personality and back again. Until her final metamorphosis takes place in the end.
This book speaks volumes on the issue of how power corrupts and innocence can quickly be lost. The plot of this book could be amazing. The layout of the book, however, is a bit choppy. The plot while good, is hindered by improper formatting and mistakes that leave the reader a bit confused. This book could be exceptional with a bit of editing and reformatting so that the passage of events flows more fluidly.
Metamorphosis by Terry Halley is a science fiction depicting the twists and turns in the lives of two friends- Cindy Jackson and David Cassidy. While Cindy’s life is devastated by her boss and his two accomplices, David comes to her rescue. The concoction he discovered can change their appearances and bring out their alter egos. Armed with this transformative power, will they be able to bring the perpetrators to justice?
The pace of the book was mostly smooth, resulting in a swift reading experience. I say “mostly” because in some cases, the author included backstories and details in odd places. This hampers the flow a little. As for the plot, it is indeed interesting. Even though this is science fiction, political corruption, racism, and male chauvinism dominate the major part of the story. Also, the last twist took me by surprise and presented a moment of unexpected warmth.
However, science fiction is expected to have some components of science. The scientific parts of this book were utterly vague. The author simply put together different jargons that ultimately made no sense. Another negative aspect of the book was the lack of character development. Although the author dutifully mentions the height and weight of each character, the depth was strikingly absent. Besides, the protagonists’ disdain for their original appearances was disappointing. If these aspects were taken care of, the book could have been much better.
I thank booktasters and Terry Halley for the opportunity to read and review this book, which is about the protagonist's revenge trip (Cindy) to Senator Jon. The good points of the book are that it is dynamic, things happen fast and it is light reading; I liked the story itself (the theme). The reason why I give it one star is that I did not believe the story, I know it is science fiction but the development of this seemed a bit absurd. He did not delve into the characters and the narration was quite repetitive. I think there was a lack of background information about the book's technical line (biology and basic chemistry), since the argument here ranges from poor to nonexistent.

The beautiful and successful African-American Cindy Jackson discovers a dirty secret of a high-level politician and attracts the wrath of a criminal. After having being viciously attacked, Cindy ends up physically destroyed and she is considered dead by her attackers, but a genetic discovery made by her admirer and friend, David Cassidy, gives Cindy the chance to expose the criminals, get revenge for the damage received and live a new life in the shoes of a totally different person. Cindy and David will live a dream to its fullest —a dream with the potential to become a nightmare when Cindy's alter ego decides to take the reins of their story —come hell or high water.
With a plot that’s very typical to the horror genre typified by the classic of Gothic fiction The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and perhaps with a dose of The Invisible Man, Metamorphosis takes hand of the hypothetical possibility of transforming the physics and psyche of humans into other people by means of a substance being inoculated in the body, and with the expected disastrous results. The premise is interesting and the plot is clear, although the argument is predictable and simple. The narrative quality seems to me, sincerely, unfortunate and at the level of an amateur writer: it tells a lot and shows very little; the characters are one-dimensional and inconsistent, too simple and sometimes plainly contradictory; there are totally descriptive and undeveloped sentences and small paragraphs that can be perceived as mere annotations that somehow made it to the final version of the text; sometimes the author destroys the mystery and emotion of a scene with high potential by means of telling us, in advance, the protagonist's reactions to an action whose description is yet to come; and in general, the action scenes and the tension created by the plot turns are too short and simple, which makes them taste like cut cardboard when they could have been enjoyable delicacies if they had been developed more carefully. In the technical aspect, the whole book suffers from basic problems that are evident from the first chapter and that impede a fluid and agile reading: there are spelling, syntax and temporal coherence errors (too many errors for a published book that’s already for sale in the bookstore), as well as expressions that are repeated exactly the same up to four times in a row in the same scene. In short, the novel poses an interesting story but is poorly and hastily developed, with an amateur writing work that feels like a first draft or at best as a first rewrite that has not yet been revised or edited.
Personally, I recommend the author of this book to take more writing workshops, to develop her writer's craft beyond the level she had at the time of publishing this book (although I suppose that her current level 3 years since must have changed for the better already), to consult some writing manuals and exercise the tips that are included in them, and then come back to work on this book, rewrite it, polish it and republish it with more success.

*I was given a free review copy via Booktasters. This review is of my honest thoughts and have not been influenced*
This book had its redeeming qualities but it was an okay reading. The story line didn't feel cohesive. there was so much put into this novel in a short amount of page space that may have hinder it's potential to be great.
Now I love a good science fiction story, but this story felt flat to me because it didn't feel real. Granted Science fiction is not entirely real but there is still some realistic human element to it that I did not capture in the Metamorphosis. As a reader I wanted more character development and a better driven plot. I lost that in the midst of figuring out why decisions were made or if what I was reading made sense in the grand scheme of the story's plot.
I will say that the author did make a pretty likable main character. Although flawed and in need of more development, I did appreciate Cindy's added spunk. It made her a little more relatable as a character which is something I always tend to gear towards in a story. [Yes, not all characters can be completely relatable but you always find nuggets of commonalities that tie you in].
Overall, the book had a promising beginning but fell flat. If the story continued, we may have seen potential to invest more in the characters and overall narrative the story was taking us to. If you are looking for a quick, short read, it is an okay read to get through.
Metamorphosis by Terry Halley deals with the horror genre as the classic of Gothic Fiction The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. It’s a science fiction story about Cindy Jackson’s life after being raped, brutally attacked and devastated by Senator Jon. She will look for revenge with the help of her friend David and the mysterious formula he found that will change their appearance and bring out their alter egos to find justice, a better version of themselves. The plot is interesting. It deals with political corruption, racism and male power, and I find the plot good. However, the story needs a little more work on it. Characters are too flat. They need to be more explained, as well as it is necessary to explain how they come to some conclusions. For example, some comments on the main character remained unresolved at some points of the story. The end of the book remains a mystery too. I think it would be a great idea to focus some attention on the formula and explain further how it works or at least to explain more about David’s jobs. In addition, some parts are confused, and it is easy to get lost in the middle of ideas. It is necessary to edit a little more the text. I think it is a good book that has a good plot. It only needs to be edited a little. To be honest, even with all the things commented previously, I couldn’t stop reading the book until the last page. I like it and truly recommend it.
The book was definitely true to its title, but by the end of the book I felt like I missed something. I loved the main characters Cindy Jackson and her friend/cohort David Cassidy and Senator Jon Clark. I feel like each character could have been more developed so the reader could understand why they turned out like they did. My favorite person was the main character, Cindy Jackson. She had bite to her and showed vulnerability as well as strength. I will say I was confused by Cindy’s decision at the end of the book, I wanted to know how did she come to that decision. The ending had me all the way confused. Overall, the book was not bad but it wasn’t great. The book would draw me in, lose me. And it did this throughout the book. Would I read other works by this author, yes I would with hopes that her storylines are more developed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01APQWJ7A?...
Sadly, I too must give this a 1 star review. There is great potential for this book. The storyline is interesting, and can offer something I haven't seen much of in modern sci-fi. If they writer keeps working, I could see comparison to Octavia E. Butler in terms of characterization and voice. HOWEVER, there is months if not years of work to do on this book. The prose is atrocious. I couldn't even finish the first few chapters because of how difficult it was to read.
This is a science fiction work, but the science is rather weak. I don't have a science degree, but I know enough to be able to pick at the issues. I can't imagine what a professional would be able to do with it.
Thank you Booktasters and Terry Halley for the opportunity to read Metamorphosis! The plot was good, but the book itself felt like it was thrown together. There were so many things happening and it could've easily been another 250+ pages (or should've been). It felt very rushed without any character development, and many things simply did not add up - almost like many chapters had been completely removed. Interesting concept but poor execution.
I enjoyed the idea behind the book however the execution was not the best. Many of the sentences felt disjointed and information was thrown at the reader without leaving too much room for suspence. Additionally, the dialogue sections needed refining.
The story focused on Cindy/Cynthia who get viciously attacked and with the help of a friend, tries to seek her revenge.
I really enjoyed the idea behind this text. The setting of the characters was established well. The detail behind the drama was pretty okay, but the exposure and writing throughout the text felt a bit off. Often, I felt like a certain part had to be suspenseful or more surprising. Aside from the writing, the test leaves the reader with imagination.
Love the idea and the characters, the dr jackle and mr hyde type of theme was neat really looking forward to the next novel from this author. I see a lot of great potential!
