A Star and a Stray Dog Ichigo successfully defeats Ikkaku of the Eleventh Company and is rewarded with a valuable piece of information - the location of where Rukia is being detained as she awaits execution. However, Ichigo's companion, the pyrotechnics-wielding Ganju, is having a much harder time with his Soul Reaper opponent. Meanwhile, Orihime and Uryū confront the younger brother of the gargantuan gatekeeper whom Ichigo defeated a little while ago. It's time for Uryū to put all his training to the test and prove to everyone (and himself) how much more powerful he has become.
Noriaki Kubo, known professionally as Tite Kubo ( 久保帯人), is a Japanese manga artist and character designer. His manga series Bleach (2001–2016) had over 130 million copies in circulation as of 2022.
Rukia finally had a real family. Let her go... Don't get in her way... That was what I told myself. But thinking back, maybe I was just afraid. Geez... I'll always be a stray dog. It makes me sick. All I do is bark at the moon... I don't have the guts to jump at it." [Renji]
With Volume 11 we have the finalization of the fight between Ichigo and Ikkaku and the fight between Ganju and Yumichika. The Ichigo vs Ikkaku fight was as spectacular as the Ganju vs Yumichika fight was hilarious. I really love the fact that Ichigo could've leave Ikkaku laying down (and slowly dying), but decided to save his life instead. Ikkaku was an enemy (at that time, at least) and, so all Ichigo knew, when healed, Ikkaku could get up and fight again (and who knows how that would end up), but still decided to save him. This is who Ichigo is. He looks tough (he needs to be tough), but he has an incredibly good heart. I love him so much!
I also love the fact that Ikkaku, after being defeated, could've seal his mouth, but decided to guide Ichigo to where Rukia is being held captive. He also protected Ichigo - the guy he barely knew and who won against him - from Captain Mayuri. What a brave and selfless thing to do, especially while laying down, completely defenceless.
Btw, Ichigo screaming his lungs out for Ganju WHILE BEING IN AN ENEMY TERRITORY after all this time is still incredibly hilarious to me 😂
"You want murderous intent? Then fight me. You'll find what you're looking for in my bow."
Guys. GUYS. THE MANGA VERSION OF ISHIDA LOOKS HOT. And it comes from me, a person who never had any particular feelings when it comes to this character. Now I'm admitting that HE'S COOL AS HELL! The fight between him and Jidanbou's brother (who's name I completely forgot) was something I never really paid any big attention to, but hey, HEY, ISHIDA ROCKED IT. I might be in love again (Ichigo is forever my favorite boy, tho) 😍
"Hanataro, why are you helping us? We're the enemy. Is it because we want to go to the White Tower? Is that why you're guiding us and not asking any questions?" "I've heard a lot about you from Miss Rukia. I know you well, Ichigo Kurosaki. I hope that you can save Miss Rukia."
In this Volume, Hanataro shows up for the very first time! I love his character very much, he's so adorable! It always pains me how he's constantly looking down on himself like everything he's doing doesn't matter. I want to hug him tightly and convince him how precious he is. While I think that the scene of his introduction as hilarious, I also have to point out the awful treatment of Hanataro and Squad 4 in general, by other Soul Reapers (especially Squad 11). It's totally shameful of them to be not only ungrateful of all the work the Squad 4 is doing for them and the Sould Society, but also to be so disrespectful of other people who they consider weaker than them. I know that they all are fighters, but it's not a reason to look down upon those who aren't like them.
"She told me to call her Rukia. Her voice was kind. I was so relieved. From now on, I couldn't wait to clean her cell each day. Little by little, Miss Rukia told me all kinds of things. And much of it was about you, Mr. Kurosaki. She said that you'd only spent two months together, but for some inexplicable reason she felt she could trust you completely." - INSTANT RIVER OF TEARS
First of all, the Hanataro/Rukia dynamic is incredibly precious to me. I love the fact that Rukia's so kind to Hanataro. It shows how different she is from the other Soul Reapers, who would rather scream at Hanataro and kick him, that spend time talking to him. Second of all, THE ICHIGO/RUKIA RELATIONSHIP IS SCREAMING SOULMATES TO ME. I know that they will not end up together (not romantically, at least), and that's all right, I just need to say how special their relationship is. At this point of the story, they didn't spend as much time with each other as they should to know one another so well. But here they are - both agonizing over what they had done to each other. Rukia is convinced that she messed Ichigo's life and feels incredibly guilty, while all Ichigo is being grateful for all the help he got from Rukia and thinks that he will never repay her for what she had done for him and his family. Both are incredibly important for each other and they would go through hell and back for one another. This is what Ichigo is doing - going through an enemy territory, doing his best to find Rukia and save her. And this similar to what Rukia will also do for Ichigo soon enough (in the Hueco Mundo arc). These two are the heart and soul of Bleach.
"Kurosaki... I'm asking you, knowing that I shame myself... Save her. Save Rukia! [Renji]
Let's not forget to give an applause for Abarai Renji. He's definitely a character that needs to be treated more kindly by the Bleach fandom. People say that all he's doing is losing fights, while completely missing how incredibly courageous and brave Renji is. If you need support, he's always there. And he's, he's losing fights. He's not as strong as the other characters, and the truth is that he doesn't need to be. He's perfect just the way he is. He's always giving his best, risking his life for his friends without a blink of an eye. He's tough, but has a big heart - just like Ichigo. And he's so incredibly self-sacrificing. He let go of Rukia when she was adopted by the Kuchiki family, staying away from her for years while working hard to become stronger, to become someone worthy of her friendship. Now, while being an Assistant Captain, being a part of the Soul Society that sentenced Rukia to death, he's definitely being torn between his duties and between his loyalty to Rukia. All he should do is to stand down and let Rukia be killed - that's what the law is - but he decides to let go of his pride as a Soul Reaper and a man in general and, after the fight with Ichigo, asks him to save Rukia. If he had any more strength, he would definitely go and try to save her by himself, but it would end up with both of them dying. So he's doing the only thing he knew he could to - he puts all his hopes in a stranger - a man he's blaming for Rukia's sentence - to save his friend. That's so incredibly selfless and so incredibly brave to do. I love you, Renji.
Well, after the talk with Ikkaku, Kenpachi is again on the run to find the strongest Ryoka. I'm sure that they will not meet in the next volume - Aizen needs to jump with his drama - but I'm excited for this fight so much! ☺️
Renji and Rukia used to be friends?? I need that dynamic reestablished immediately. The Soul Society arc has been pretty fun so far, though I can't wait until Ichigo and the gang have to face off against the more menacing captains like Kenpachi or Byakuya. It's heartwarming that characters on both sides of conflict tend to be forgiving after meeting in battle, though I admit I'm excited for the more truly evil villains to make their appearances. That last scene of Renji was everything!
Unexpectedly, Ganju is creeping up on my favourite character list for this series. Now that he and Ichigo are getting along, its obvious that they share a similar sense of humour; its impossible for me not to be fond of him!
My feeling about Renji was actually upside down after finishing this volumn and I bet lots of readers feel that way too. Kubo sensei's ability with words are so darn brilliant. Love this serie <3
One thing I always liked about Bleach is that almost everyone on both sides is pretty sympathetic. It's not a war against good and evil, rather a scuffle of good guys working for different, mutually incompatible, purposes. After this arc we get some real villains and the particular aspect is lost.
(But then, you could argue that this whole scuffle only happens because of said real villains to begin with... that's always the case, isn't it. Still nice while it lasts.)
The battles continue as the team tries to crawl their way to their objective while also reaching each other before anything bad happens to one another.
This volume sees the end of another of Ichigo's confrontation as he comes to terms with his intent. Beautifully drawn and with powerful dialogue, the action scenes inject me with drive and testosterone!
Meh, more running, more Soul Society drama. Fighting cannon fodder. 3rd string middle squad officer trying to get at Orihime defeated by Uryū. Still hard to believe Ganju defeated Yumichika. It pains me to know there are 60 more volumes of Yumichika going on and on about beauty (Sigh). The fight between Ichigo and Renji is good. It is not a bad volume but still.
I know the background exposition is for the readers and not for the characters. But dang sending Ichigo into the Soul Society with no intel or decent maps is just annoyingly bad planning. I mean Ganju is a local and still has no idea. But having read through the story once already we know who Urahara and Yoruichi are and they should have provided better maps at the least.
Mary Sue and Co venture through the sewer systems on their quest to save Rukia with the help of an errant soul reaper. Mary Sue battles Renji.
It is through Hanataro and Renji that we learn more about how the soul society works and is arranged geographically. We also get stories from each of them that involve Rukia. Hanataro speaks of Rukia's kindness. Renji gives us the real story of Rukia's past, which I found quite fascinating.
Even though I don't like Ichigo very much, I do enjoy Bleach for the story. There's plenty of action in this volume and besides Ichigo's Mary Sue BS it's quite good. I almost died when Ichigo said, "I don't WANT to kill you, I'm GOING to kill you." Zzz. Did he really just say that? Whatever, on to the next.
Damn it man if this volume was just renji vs ichigo it would have been a 5 but sadly the other parts do drag it down sadly. That fight between reni and ichigo though was peak fiction, the way it played back to uraharas lessons was insanely well done and I'm sorry but this fight in the manga clears the fight in the anime can't even lie to you. Still haven't seen my favourite moment yet in this arc though were well under way and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
When you're dodging, think "I won't let you hit me!" When you're protecting someone, think "I won't let you die!" When you're attacking, think "I will cut you!"
Holy… that was so peak. This might’ve been my favorite volume so far. I absolutely loved to watch Uryu and Orihime’s dynamic, Ichigo wanting to save Rukia at all costs, Renji’s backstory and how he just wants to save Rukia as well. This was so, so good.
Bleach, Vol. 11 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (89–98) of the on-going manga series.
Ganju Shiba regroups with Ichigo Kurosaki after defeating Yumichika Ayasegawa with exploding fireworks in the Soul Reaper's face. As Uryū Ishida and Orihime Inoue are confronted by Jirōbō Ikkanzaka, the 4th seat of Squad Seven whom Uryū easily defeats.
Meanwhile, Ichigo and Ganju manage to elude their pursuers by using the clumsy Squad Four officer Hanatarō Yamada as a distraction. Hanatarō informs them of a shortcut to the cell where Rukia Kuchiki is being held and promises to guide the two there.
However, Renji Abarai, revealed to be lieutenant of Squad Six, confronts them and engages Ichigo in a vicious fight. However, in the end, remembering his training under Kisuke Urahara, Ichigo defeats Renji. Before falling to the ground, Renji recalls his long-time friendship with Rukia and pleas Ichigo to save her.
This tankobon is written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. Ichigo Kurosaki and his team continue the incursion into the Seireitei. Being separated each team manages to fight rather low ranking Soul Reapers. An interesting history about Renji Abarai and Rukia Kuchiki being friends in the past makes a poignant connection – especially that he was a part of the arresting party to bring her in, along with her older brother.
All in all, Bleach, Vol. 11 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Bleach continues to get better and better as we finally reach the best part of the manga.
Ichigo has to save Rukia but in order to do so he has to go through all of soul society. First he must face off against the underlings before he gets over to the Captains. This emotional fueled volume not only has him showing off his new skills but Chad and the Quincy master as well. Action packed, stakes rising, Rukia given hope, and some well placed emotion bits help elevate this title to the next level. A 4 out of 5.
Ichigo is getting closer to saving Rukia, defeating each boss one by one. We're also getting glimpses into Ûryu's change after all his secret training.
The battle between Renji and Ichigo tore at my heartstrings, especially after getting the backstory of how Renji and Rukia met and why she means so much to him.
I feel like the next volume is going to be an emotional rollercoaster.
y'know the problem with the fight scenes isn't just that they are boring, it's that kubo can never resist finding the easy way out, hard work means nothing if you can just basically bullshit your way into winning, the stakes aren't there at all and ichigo's character flipflops in just about every volume at this point.
This series is pure electric. We get Ichigo and the gang infiltrating the Soul Society and also the BEST fight with Ichigo vs. Renji. I am in love with this arc so far!!
