Sometimes the secrets we keep aren’t as unacceptable as we thought they were.

Wes has been on his own since he was sixteen, and he’s had to do what he needed to do to survive, even if it meant being a prostitute. He’s never known love, but that starts to change when he meets Taylor. Wes feels wanted as a person for the first time, but he knows Taylor could never accept him, so he flees.

Taylor hadn’t expected to wake up alone on the day after he claimed his mate. He doesn’t even know Wes’ full name or phone number, so he has no way to find him. Just when he thinks he’s lost Wes forever, Wes is attacked and calls a pride member for help. Taylor knows he has to tell Wes about his furry half, but after Wes ran once already, Taylor is scared of his mate’s reaction.

Wes accepts staying with the pride, but can Taylor really accept him and his past? And can Wes get used to living with people—with shifters—when he’s been alone for three years?

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

This was book 17 in the "Whitedell Pride" series. Wes has been on his own since he was 16 his mother died when he was 12 and he was placed in foster care when his foster father begins creeping on him he left and begin selling his body to make ends meet. Taylor decides to take Darin out so he can meet people and maybe get laid while drunk he meets his mate. Wes and Taylor go to a hotel Wes decides he wants to have sex for him and not charge Taylor while having sex Taylor claims Wes and falls asleep and Wes leaves without giving him his phone number or his last name. While on the way to the club Wes runs into Johan and Keenan and Wes remembers him from the club when he hit on Joshua. After leaving the hotel Taylor goes back to the mansion and is upset because he claimed Wes without telling him about shifters. When Joshua gets a call from Wes he was attacked and left in an alley to die by three or four guys he goes to tell Dominic and finds Taylor in the office talking to him and when Joshua tells him what's going on Taylor realizes that it maybe his Wes. Use to being on his own Wes doesn't know what to expect from the Taylor or the guys that are helping him when he finds out about Taylor he still believes that he is not good enough for him and when he tells Taylor what he did for a living he thinks that Taylor will not want him anymore. This was a pretty good book the group is attacked while walking into town while Brad is with them he seems shocked there is soothing up with him I am looking forward to learning who the mole is. This was a well written book with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

I’ve read every book in the Whitedell Pride series and every book in the connected Gillham Pack series, and the vast majority of these stories come in at a four star rating, in my opinion. But every so often one story will stand out from the rest and really capture my attention, and book #17 – Wes, is one of them.

Usually I’m not a fan of rentboy stories, but somehow Wes wormed his way straight into my heart and lodged there. He’s not wailing in self pity about the unfairness of his life (which would be pretty much justified), instead he just gets on with the business of surviving. He hates selling himself for money, but he’s practical and does what he has to do. But as levelheaded as he is, he still has a very poor self-image and doesn’t think he’s actually worthy to be in a relationship with anyone. So when he meets Taylor at a club, and heads back to his hotel for a night of amazing sex (sex he didn’t even try to charge the sexy man for) Wes disappears the next morning without so much as a phone number exchanged. Taylor, of course, is not about to let his mate go with out a fight and is in the process of hunting Wes down when his mate is beaten and ends up in the care of the pride. Now the two men just have to muddle through revealing their secrets to each other and they can get on with living their happily-ever-after.

Although the extended pride always plays a big part in each of these books, I especially love these instalments which show how much they are a family, more than just a group of shifters. I also love the stories where we see how inclusive the Whitedell Pride is, the way they are willing to help and adopt anybody who needs them, not just a specific breed of cats, not even only other shifters.

Which actually doesn’t always serve them well, such as in the case of Bradley, who is obviously up to no good. I’m really anticipating his book now, because of course, he just needs a little help from the pride to sort his life out.

Don’t attempt to read this series out of sequence – unless you enjoy absolute confusion and headaches.

Summary:
Wes like many young people for whatever reason find themselves homeless and struggle to survive on the streets with no one to help them. Wes found the strength inside himself to do what he had to live, but the cost until Joshua from Whitedell gave him a lifeline in a phone number if he needed help. That one act gave him hope so when he met Tyler he was ready. Tyler soon learned that he would have to be patient allowing Wes to make his own decision about their mating. You would think that finding out that Tyler was a shifter would be the issue, but Wes's past was causing the problems. It was wonderful how Wes accepted each member of the pack and quickly became involved in their lives. Tyler's love was a big part in helping Wes learn that he was loved for himself without reservation. The conflict form the hunters brought to the forefront the dangers to Wes, but he never faltered when he was needed coming to protect his mate and pack. This was a wonderful edition to the series.

Wes is a human character we saw earlier in the series but was one I thought was a throwaway character. Taylor is a new addition to the pride. Honestly, I don't remember Taylor's backstory. I liked Wes from the beginning. It took me a little longer to warm to Taylor. Mostly because how he behaved on the first night they met was less than honorable. By the end of the story, however, I liked both of them.

Sweet. I liked that even if they fell into bed instantly, they (or rather Wes) pulled the breaks and let the relationship develop a bit.
I liked that there was a bit more to this story than just the usual find mate -convince mate - move in together. Even if it admittedly wasn't that much more.

The overall story arc of the series is ok, but is progressing at a snails pace. Feels like the author is running out of ideas for that and needs to space it out over the coming book in this series as well as the Gillham Pack series. Maybe it is a bit much to have two series sharing the story arc?
