Dramas, such as The Seagull (1896, revised 1898), and including "A Dreary Story" (1889) of Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, also Chekov, concern the inability of humans to communicate.

Born ( Антон Павлович Чехов ) in the small southern seaport of Taganrog, the son of a grocer. His grandfather, a serf, bought his own freedom and that of his three sons in 1841. He also taught to read. A cloth merchant fathered Yevgenia Morozova, his mother.

"When I think back on my childhood," Chekhov recalled, "it all seems quite gloomy to me." Tyranny of his father, religious fanaticism, and long nights in the store, open from five in the morning till midnight, shadowed his early years. He attended a school for Greek boys in Taganrog from 1867 to 1868 and then Taganrog grammar school. Bankruptcy of his father compelled the family to move to Moscow. At the age of 16 years in 1876, independent Chekhov for some time alone in his native town supported through private tutoring.

In 1879, Chekhov left grammar school and entered the university medical school at Moscow. In the school, he began to publish hundreds of short comics to support his mother, sisters and brothers. Nicholas Leikin published him at this period and owned Oskolki (splinters), the journal of Saint Petersburg. His subjected silly social situations, marital problems, and farcical encounters among husbands, wives, mistresses, and lust; even after his marriage, Chekhov, the shy author, knew not much of whims of young women.

Nenunzhaya pobeda , first novel of Chekhov, set in 1882 in Hungary, parodied the novels of the popular Mór Jókai. People also mocked ideological optimism of Jókai as a politician.

Chekhov graduated in 1884 and practiced medicine. He worked from 1885 in Peterburskaia gazeta.

In 1886, Chekhov met H.S. Suvorin, who invited him, a regular contributor, to work for Novoe vremya, the daily paper of Saint Petersburg. He gained a wide fame before 1886. He authored The Shooting Party , his second full-length novel, later translated into English. Agatha Christie used its characters and atmosphere in later her mystery novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd . First book of Chekhov in 1886 succeeded, and he gradually committed full time. The refusal of the author to join the ranks of social critics arose the wrath of liberal and radical intelligentsia, who criticized him for dealing with serious social and moral questions but avoiding giving answers. Such leaders as Leo Tolstoy and Nikolai Leskov, however, defended him. "I'm not a liberal, or a conservative, or a gradualist, or a monk, or an indifferentist. I should like to be a free artist and that's all..." Chekhov said in 1888.

The failure of The Wood Demon , play in 1889, and problems with novel made Chekhov to withdraw from literature for a period. In 1890, he traveled across Siberia to Sakhalin, remote prison island. He conducted a detailed census of ten thousand convicts and settlers, condemned to live on that harsh island. Chekhov expected to use the results of his research for his doctoral dissertation. Hard conditions on the island probably also weakened his own physical condition. From this journey came his famous travel book.

Chekhov practiced medicine until 1892. During these years, Chechov developed his concept of the dispassionate, non-judgmental author. He outlined his program in a letter to his brother Aleksandr: "1. Absence of lengthy verbiage of political-social-economic nature; 2. total objectivity; 3. truthful descriptions of persons and objects; 4. extreme brevity; 5. audacity and originality; flee the stereotype; 6. compassion." من أغرب ما قرأت
شبيهة بـ تحريات كلب لفرانز كافكا مع الفارق طبعا

يظل الكلب وفيا لصاحبه لأنه فقط صاحبه و ليس لأى شيء آخر

“A children’s book about a dog by Anton Chekov?!” I exclaimed to a friend as he pulled out this old 1961 edition of Kashtanka, “thats gonna be sad as hell!” AND IT IS!
A rather delightful little tail tale of a dog who is more used to kicks than tricks, but after being separated from her drunk owner due to her own ‘improper behaviour,’ her misadventures eventually find her becoming a performer in an all-animal circus routine. Okay, sure, Chekov didn’t write it with the express purpose of being a children’s chapter book, but this short story originally published in 1887 under the title In Learned Society and then revised and split into chapters for a 1892 publication works well as a children’s tale . But the harsh kind with the taste of death and dreariness. Still, coupled with some rather delightful illustrations (in this edition by William Stobbs) and in English translation Charles Dowsett, this was a nice quick read where—like Kashtanka’s feeling of being overcome by sleep—’warmth prevailed over melancholy.’


I love stumbling across little curios such as this. Especially when it comes with some cool illustrations. Its a sad story (you can read the story–without photos–in its entirety HERE), and one where animals don’t exactly get the kindest treatment, but its still rather whimsical. We have Kashtanka—‘a cross between a dachshund and a watchdog of some sort or another’—who is rather abused but misses their owner all the same and finds themselves stranded and lonely thinking ‘No, it is impossible to live like this! I must shoot myself!’ But there is a lively cast of other animal characters like Fyodor Timofeyitch the cat and Ivan Ivanovich the goose who gets some great art that makes him look like such a smug ass goose.

The art is really cool in this with both ink line-drawing art as well as full color pages. While this version is by William Stobbs, the first illustrated version came out in 1903 with art by Dmitry Kardovksy which tends to be the standard art for most publications, though in 1995 Gennady Spirin (known for his version of The Nutcracker, and various fairy tales or stories by Shakespeare) released his version which tends to be the most popular.

The story is harsh, which one might expect from Anton Chekhov, and animals spar with each other, and one of the animal performers gets crushed by a horse and dies pretty tragically leading Kashtanka (now called “Auntie” while with the performance troupe) to contemplate mortality. There is some animal abuse as well, just a heads up:

‘[Kashtanka] divided humanity into two unequal halves–masters and customers; there was a real distinction between the two groups, for the former had the right to beat her, while she had the right to bite the latter.’

Still its all pretty charming as a whole and like, who doesn’t want to see animals performing absurd stunts and tricks like a cheerleader group on game day.

if someone got animals to do this at a party I’d lose my mind with joy.

Still, its all pretty somber and lonely vibes permeate the tale. It ends on what I guess is a happy note, yet it still feels kind of foreboding and sad considering the treatment of the dog. Plus the ending just abruptly inserts itself making the whole story register to the reader not unlike the dog’s final thoughts on it that ‘ the little room with dirty wall-paper, the gander, Fyodor Timofeyitch, the delicious dinners, the lessons, the circus, but all that seemed to her now like a long, tangled, oppressive dream.’ So, too, thought poet Yakov Polonsky, who wrote to Chekhov to tell him that, despite finding it a ‘fine’ story of some delight ‘ it seemed to me that "Kashtanka"'s final scene bears the mark of either tiredness or haste. It certainly looks is if something in it is missing.’ Would agree.

Short, bleak, but a cool little story from storyteller extraordinaire Anton Chekhov, Kashtanka works well when approaching it as an antique children’s chapter book (probably more than had I just read it as a short story) to help highlight the whimsy within. Glad I got to run across it in this delightful illustrated edition.

الكلبة كاشتانكا تخوض مغامرة بعد ان تضيع من صاحبها النجار.
يعثر عليها رجل ما وعلى لسان الكلبة يبدأ شيخوف تدريجيا بتوضيح هذا العالم الجديد الذي تنتقل اليه والتعرف على اوزة وقط وخنزير.
وتنتقل بعد ذلك الى مبنى كبير مع جمهور كبير ويغير مالكها الجديد شكله لتبدأ بتطبيق ما تدربت عليه في الفترة السابقة.
ومع خوفها من الفشل امام جمهور السيرك تسمع صوت مالكها القديم وابنه يناديان عليها بإسمها القديم الذي غيره المهرج.
أعجبتي القصه بلسان الحيوانات وتصرفاتهم ونظرة الحيوانات وخاصة الكلبة الى الدنيا والبشر.

أفكار عديدة واستنتاجات مختلفة تطرق رأسي عند التفكير في هذه الرواية، فمثلاً عند قراءتها يخطر للمرء الحديث عن رهبة التغيير والخوف من البدايات وصعوبة تقبُّل الحالات الجديدة مهما تعددت مزاياها، وقد يدور الحديث أيضاً عن العاطفة تجاه القسوة والأذى والتي تكون أقوى من تلك التي تتشكل نحو اللمسة الحانية، ولربما يصل الحديث إلى غرائبية الموت وبرودة النسيان السهل لذكرى أحدهم …

ولو تمعن قارئ آخر فيها، لوجد أشياء أخرى، أو لن يفعل، باعتباراها رواية بسيطة عن حياة حيوان ..
أما عني، فأنا تأسرني الحكايات التي تُروى لي من العالم الداخلي للحيوان، ولأن في انتقالي إلى بلدٍ آخر فقدتُ حيواني الأليف الذي كان لي قلباً وعين ولم أعد أعرف أيّ الأماكن تحتضنه الآن، لهذا كانت الحروف تُقرأ بكامل جوارحي، ولكم تمنيت هذه النهاية لنفسي، وأن أحظى يوماً بما فقدت .. 💔

Chekhov always has a way of telling his stories that I really admire.

سوف اعطيها خمس نجمات. في البداية تذكرت مزرعة الحيوان لجورج اورويل وتوقعت ان تكون القصة سياسية ولكنها لم تكن كذلك وانما تعلمنا ان الحيوان ذكي للغاية ولا ينسى اصحابه القدامى مهما كانوا سيئين!!
ضاع الكلب كاشتانكا من سيده النجار الذي لم يكن يعامله بطريقة حسنة ويجده مهرج في السيرك وهناك يتعرف على وزة وقط كسول وخنزير لمدة ليست بالقصيرة. تموت الوزة فيدرب كاششتانكا على القيام بحركات مضحكة ويذهب به الى السيرك وفي تلك الاثناء يسمع صوت يناديه بإسمه ويتعرف على صوت صاحبه القديم وإبنه ، وهنا نجد روعة الوصف وكيف ركض الكلب كالصاروخ ليرمي بنفسه في ايدي اصحابه القدامى.

تصلح القصة للاطفال لانها قصيرة ولطيفة وتعلمهم الرأفة بالحيوان.

لا أعلم ماذا فعل المهرج بالوزة ؟ ربما اكلوها.

عجيب في قصص تشيخوف كيف يبدع في رسم شخصيات مختلفة متنوعة بإتقان، وبكل دقة يطلعنا على العالم من وجهة نظرهم ومشاعرهم وخبراتهم؛ فقصصه المتنوعة قد تكون من منظور طفل صغير أو كبير، شيخ كهل، مراهق، إلخ…، وحتى سمكة، والآن كلب!

فنون السيرك رائعة، ولكن انطلاقاً من عدم ارتياحي ومحبتي لمشاركة الحيوانات فيه، كان السؤال الجوهري بالنسبة لي: هل نطمع في حياة منعمة مرهفة مقابل التهريج وإضحاك الناس، أو نر��ى بعفة وبساطة الحياة مقابل الكرامة.

بشكل دقيق هذا التساؤل لا ينطبق تماماً على أحداث القصة؛ فكاشتانكا تعرضت للإهمال وظروف غير سليمة في كلتا الحالتين. ولكن الخلاصة تكمن في الرفق والإحسان، وفي الو��اء الجميل.


- القصة من ضمن المنهج الروسي للصف الثاني أو الثالث ابتدائي**
- أقرأها حالياً مع أخي (هو يقرأها لي): لغة سهلة ولطيفة، مناسبة لمن يتعلم اللغة الروسية.
- طريف تسمية الحيوانات بأسماء بشرية ومناداتهم بها بصيغة الاحترام ولكن محادثتهم بصيغة المفرد وليس باحترام.

من الواضح ان المقصود من المهرج هو القوى العظمى أو صاحب

القوة والكلية المسكينة كاشتانكا وبقية الحيوانات كانت تحت

إمرته للعب بهم وجعلهم اداة لضحك الجمهور .. ولكن الجيد ف

الموضوع هو اختيار كاشتانكا لصاحبها القديم رغم وجود لقمتها

قصة قصيرة أخرى للكاتب أنطون تشيخوف
لم تصلني المشاعر مثل باقي قصصه هل يا ترى الترجمة السبب؟

- اثناء القرءاة لم يأتي على ذهني سوى الكلبة المسكينة كاشتانكا وسوء معاملة من مالكها السكير والتغير الذي يحصل معها نتعرف على قط و اوزه و خنزير وكل منهم وجه نظر مختلفة ، من اللطيف أن تسمع من وجه نظر الحيوانات ولكن في النهاية القصة عن وفاء الكلاب ربما؟،

- عند الانتهاء من القصة فكرت في معنى الوفاء بالنسبة للبشرة ، التعلق المرضي بالاشخاص ، اللذة الوقتية والألم ، القوانين الصارمة .

A simple short story of a dog that looses one owner, and finds another, but will he stay with him or not. It may not be Chekhov's best short story, but it is a good one just the same.

Where does a dog's loyalty lie, and why? It may be a strange question, but it is a question that I think is quite central to this story. The second owner may look as if he is a better owner, and in many ways he does treat the dog better, but he always keeps him further away. So maybe the ending shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Anyway I liked the story. It's worth one read at least.

تلك هي الحيوانات، ذلك هو الانسان، وهذا ما يجمع بينهما (الصفات والمشاعر) أو لربما (الاخلاق). هل تعتقدون أن الحيوانات قد تفوقت علينا في تلك الصفات والمشاعر والاخلاق؟
ألم نلحظ أن معظم الصفات التي حملها الحيوان كانت (أنبل) من صفات وأخلاق الانسان؟ ذلك الانسان الذي لم يعامل الطرف الآخر(الحيوان) إلا بقدر حاجته له أو ربما أقل، بينما ذلك الطرف الآخر لم يكن إلا وفيا وساعٍ بكل جهدٍ (لفهم صاحبه وإرضاءة) رغم محدودية استيعابه وغياب العقل عن تكوينه.

هل علينا أن نتعلم الاخلاق من الحيوانات؟

هل علمنا الحيوان كيف (نلتفت لتصرفاتنا) (ونتحسس مشاعرنا) لنفهم بها نفسنا والآخر؟

وعلى طريقة دوستويفسكي في التحليل النفسي والتعمق في النفس البشرية، يقدم لنا تشيخوف قصة رائعة بطلتها ( كاتشانكا ) كلبة ضاعت من صاحبها، وأوزة، وهرة، وخنزير.. ويقوم بتحليل رائع لمشاعرهم وأحاسيسهم، وإن كانت هناك دراسة تدرس سلوك هذه الحيوانات فهي بالتأكيد مستوحاة من هذه القصة.
قصة عميقة المعني، بنهاية ساخرة وعبثية بعض الشىء، كما هي عادة تشيخوف.

Veoma mi je drago što se primerak ilustrovane Kaštanke koju je priredila darma.books našao u mojoj biblioteci.

S delima Antona Pavloviča Čehova upoznala sam se u srednjoj školi kao što verujem da je i većina, ali ovu kratku priču nisam imala prilike da pročitam do sada. I bez obzira što je namenjena deci meni je bila beskrajno simpatična pre svega zato što je glavni junak riđa keruša. Kao neko ko je slab na životinje ovo sam videla kao garanciju da će mi se i priča dopasti. Naravno da su tome dodatno doprinele ilustracije Ekatarine Hlebnikove. Ne mogu da kažem da priča obiluje radnjom, ali nije to ni poenta, niti se išta slično očekuje od priče za decu. Ne znam ni sama koliko sam puta ovo ponovila kad su u pitanju dečje knjige i definitivno bi trebalo da prestanem, ali evo još jednom ću - Ako je ovo očaralo mene kao odraslu osobu mogu da zamislim kakav bi utisak ostavila na dete. Neko sam ko se sa književnošću upoznao upravo kroz ilustrovane bajke, tako da ovo budi nostalgiju u meni. I verujem da je način da upoznate dete sa klasicima kroz ovakva izdanja i više nego odličan.

Inače ne komentarišem korice i listove, ali ovde osećam da bih učinila nepravdu kad ne bih istakla kvalitet štampe. A posebne pohvale upućujem izdavaču za samu ideju biblioteke carevića Ivana, verujem da nas sjajni naslovi za decu tek očekuju.

Kashtanka, 1888 Antón Chéjov

Kashtanka es un pequeño perro, de apariencia más bien zorruna, que una fría y nevada noche se aleja de su dueño perdiéndose y dando así paso a una trepidante aventura.

Estamos delante de una historia corta pero llena de valores y relatada des del punto de vista de un narrador un tanto peculiar, el mismo Kashtanka.

Así podemos ver, a través de sus ojos, y por encima de todo, la lealtad que le profesa a su dueño y a lo que primero conoció, en lo que lo inculcaron, aún siendo sus condiciones posteriores infinitamente mejores.

إن مما لا شك فيه أن قلم العظيم تشيخوف امتلك قدرة مذهلة على امتاع القارئ بأقل الكلام ، و الوصول بالف فكرة و لو بأسطر قليلة من خلال قصصه الخالدة.
كاشتانكا الطيبة تمثل الروح الأصيلة المنتمية التي حفظت الود و عادت الى أصلها بوفاء.
رأيت في القصة انتقال الروح مرغمة الى بهرج الحداثة و الحياة المعاصرة بملذاتها و سحرها و إغوائها، تذوقت ما لم تذقه حسيا و انغمست في اللذة التي لم تكن حتى تحلم بها، لكن الوعي لديها استيقظ، بعد أن تبين لها زيف الملذات الحسية رغم طيب طعمها ، مقارنة بالاصالة و العراقة و التراث الأصيل التي تسقي النفس لذات روحانية يدوم أثرها لفترات أطول و تُلبس متذوقها نعيما آخاذا سرمديا ، تجعلها روحا قائمة شامخة يفوح منها كل جميل..
ما بين لذات حسية جسدية و لذات روحانية؛ اختر دوما الأنصع و الأنفع و الأصوب.

قررت أن احكيها لطفلتي، فما كاشتانكا إلا قصة عن ذلك الكلب الذي ضاع في الزحام، فلذلك ما هي إلا قصة قصيرة تناسب حتى الأطفال.
و ستعلمنا هذه القصة التعامل مع الحيوانات.

التساؤل الذي قد يدور في ذهن القارئ هل ذلك الكلب ضاع أم كان ضائع حتى قبل أن يضيع؟

ومن بطلتنا الكلبة كاشتانكا يرمز بالطبع تشيخوف إلى بعض الأوامر الذي سيستنتجها القارئ، وما استنتجته أنا هو الرفق بالحيوان من خلال تعامل النجار مع الكلب وحتى تعامل صاحب السيرك مع حيوانتاه، والعبودية من خلال كلمة الكلب بإنه يقسم الناس إلى قسمين سادة وزبائن، وحتى الولاء لاحظناه من خلال الموق�� الأخير بالسيرك إلى الكلب.

كما عادة تشيخوف قصة قصيرة بأسلوب بسيط، ولكن ما مغزاها إلا ما أراد توصيله هو للقارئ ةالذي قد يختلف فهمه من قارئ إلى آخر.

تزعجني كثيرًا معاملة البعض للحيوانات على أنها مخلوقات ليس لديها أيّةُ مشاعر، فما دامت في أيّ مخلوقٍ روحٌ، فهو يتأثّر ويشعُر بطريقته الخاصة..

بمجرّدِ أن نُدرك هذه الحقيقة، ستتغير تبعًا لها نظرتنا وطريقة تعاملنا معها، هذه المخلوقات عالمٌ لطيفٌ جدًا أستشعره في كل موقفٍ مع كاشتانكا 💕

قصة جميلة تتميز بالعذوبة و البهجة
سبق و أن قرات في آخر 30 يوم قصة عن حيوانات متكلمه و فيما يتكلمون و كيف يفكرون
بالنسبة لحيوانات متكلمه و علي هذا القدر من الذكاء بالطبع و كانت القصة تسمي مذكرات مجنون لجوجول
و الاسبوع الماضي قرأت قصة كاشتانكا الجميلة الحمراء الشبيهه بالثعالب منها بالكلاب
و كيف تاهت كاشتانكا من صاحبها و ما صاحب هذه الحادثة من هموم في نفسها سرعان ما نسيتها و اندمجت في حياتها الجديدة مع القط و الاوزة الثرثارة و الخنزيرة التي تأتي ضيفة عليهم وقت التدريب ولا ننسي بالطبع صاحبهم مدرب حيوانات السيرك
ثم تموت الأوزة و يضطر المدرب ان يضم كاشتانكا لفريقه من حيوانات السيرك و ما يلي ذلك من تعرف صاحب كاشتانكا القديم عليها في السيرك و ركضها له و لابنه و ذهابهم سويًا و نهاية القصة و التي تركز كل تركيزها علي الكلبه الحمراء
فبمجرد ضياعها من صاحبها الأول انتهي دوره في القصة و لم نعرف عنه شئ و بمجرد تركها لصاحبها الجديد لم نعرف ما حدث له من موقف محرج في السيرك بسبب ترك كاشتانكا له
التعبير عن الحيوانات في هذه القصة يتميز بالبساطة التي ينبغي ان يكون عليها تفكير الحيوانات البسيط و هو ما يختلف تمامًا عن قصة جوجول و التي سبق ان ذكرتها

كاشتانكا ، لم تكْ كلبة صغيرة بل كانت حياة ... حياتي ... حياتك ... حياتنا جميعا ، تلك النقلة الغريبة و المصادفات التي تجري لنا و تحولنا من يد متسكعة الى اخرى عابثة ، لا نعلم متى يطول البقاء في كنف تلك اللحظة و لكننا سنعود و نشتاق الى اللحظة التي خلفناها بعيدا حتى لو كانت اللحظة التي بين أيدينا هي هدفنا الذي أردنا الوصول اليه !

كتاب ظريف جداً ، عن كلب يدعى كاشتانكا يضيع من صحابه النجار و يجده شخص يعمل في السيرك ، فيتعرف على أصدقاء جدد له قطة بائسة و وزة هرِمة في السن يعملان لدى المهرج بالاضافة إلى أنهُ يدربهم على حركات ظريفة لتضحك الناس ويجني من قهقهاتهم بعض المال , عندها تنفرج أزمة كاشتانكا وتعود لصاحبها بعد أن ألتقاها عند صاحب السيرك...

الدروس المستفادة:-
* نتعلم من كاشتانكا أهم الصفات النبيلة وهي الوفاء وعدم نكران الجميل .
* نتعلم من كاشتانكا أهمية التكيف والتأقلم مع الظروف حتى لو لم تكن مثل مانتمنى ونريد .
* نتعلم من كاشتانكا أن في الحياة أشياء أهم بكثير جداً من الكماليات ، و هي الصحبة الصادقة ، مهما قدمت لنا فنحن ممتننين لها ولا ننسى فضلها ولو كان بالزهيد.
* كاشتانكا تعلمنا حسن التهذيب وفن التعامل مع الآخرين بلطف (الغرباء) أثناء غياب أصحابنا..

طبعاً سمعتها صوتي و كانت حدها حلوة تصلح لقصة ماقبل النوم و بذات للأطفال لان فيها تقاليد أصوات الحيوانات ،تحتوي على نوع من التسلية.

While it is difficult to rate which of the books illustrated by Gennady Spirin is my favorite, this one is one at the top.

Anyone who has loved, and lost, a beloved pet will relate to this book, told from the perspective of the dog who becomes misplaced from his wood carver master and the son who loves the dog dearly.

Kashtanka. the lovely dog, lives in a warm house with cabinetmaker Luka Alexandrych and his son. One day, as Kashtanka follows his master and son, he becomes lost in the snow. As the day turns to night, the dog despairs and cries while curled up in a doorstep.

He is rescued from a circus owner who provides warm and food, and teaches Kashtanka how to perform tricks. While happy, the dog misses his original family. He learns the tricks quickly. On his first night of performance, as luck occurs, Luka Alexandrych and son are in the audience of the circus.

Now, Kashtanka must decide to stay with the circus friends, or to return to his home. As his original owners leave the circus and go out into the snow, Kahtanka quickly follows behind, and is sure to stay close by.
