Lance has been to hell and back. Literally. Dying hurts. It hurts like a bitch on steroids. It’s the coming back though that’s the biggest struggle. Days of sheer torture…untold agony. He may have survived, but it’s not without scars. Lance wears them like a mask. Surrounds himself in them like an impenetrable wall. He may be a part of The Program, but he isn’t looking for a mate. No way in hell. Toying with the human females may have started out as fun, but it’s become more trouble than it’s worth. He’ll get through the last heat and be on his way. It’s a huge irritation that he’s been named as the most eligible bachelor. Every human female is gunning for him. Don’t they know that they are playing with fire? Don’t they realize that playing with fire is liable to get you burned?
Amber can’t believe it when she makes it into The Program. It’s her chance to live a little. Maybe she’ll find her soul mate. The one. Maybe, just maybe, her perfect match is one of the elite ten. It’s a pity that the one guy who draws her attention is such a colossal asshole. Not only that, he’s the most arrogant person she has ever met. No thank you very much. She’ll pass. Her attraction for the big, brooding vampire is a major irritation, especially when there are so many other potential candidates. She just needs to try harder to avoid him… try harder to like one of the others…
This book can be read as a standalone but would be best enjoyed as a part of the series. No cliffhanger! The story contains strong sexual themes/language and is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Charlene lives on an acre in the country with her husband, three children and an array of pets including a snake. In her spare time you can usually find her typing away franticly on the computer completely lost in worlds of her making. She is an avid believer that it is the small things that truly matter like the feeling you get when you start reading a new book or a particularly beautiful sunset. Charlene likes to write bite stories her readers can sink their teeth into. Sign up for her latest release newsletter for more information http://mad.ly/signups/96708/join
This book was hilarious! and exactly how I pictured it would be for Lance. I am so glad he got to eat the entire humble pie, made me actually like him for once. And he cried! Yesssssssss!
All those spoilers!!!!!!! Kai running off, new interspecies breeding programs, Titan and the FBI lady and best of all Dragon shifters !!!! OMG! I am so looking forward to that one.
During my reread of this book, I realized I never a review for it while this one is probably my favorite one in this series. I loved near all the program books but this one is the one I reread the most. The wits and banters between the main characters had me laughing and smiling a lot. Of course, Lance is awful asshole, a big jerk and seing him fall in the trap of Love was very joyful. I remember I was angry at him when he went after Ward in Stolen by The Alpha Wolf, and he was such an incredible douchebag during the first program session and with his best friend too. So seing him receive a little piece of his own money, like a door on his face or being the one begging was more than brilliant. Amber is a sweet one, looking for a new life outside the bubble made by her parents to protect her, she wants to breath on her own and maybe find love. Just she didn’t expected to be attracted by the worst sucker of the ten vampires selected in the program, she went there to fall in love with a nice guy not to fool around with some manwhore. I would just have like some more resistance against Lance, not letting Lance have his way so easily at first. And also, a longer transition between their “hate” relationship to the realization they were in love. But in all, I love this book, the fall of the biggest horn dog for a sweet shy woman.
DELICIOUSLY CUTE AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: A Mate for Lance Series: The Program Designation: Book Five of Series, Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger Author: Charlene Hartnady Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY CUTE STARS***** It's no secret I'm a diehard Charlene Hartnady fan and love everything she writes but she's really outdone herself - AGAIN! Yes, I know I say this every time but this series just gets better and better and Hartnady totally rocked my world with A Mate for Lance, the fifth release in her captivating The Program Series! I was completely enthralled from page one and simply could not stop reading. This book has it all. Love steamy passion and dreamy romance? It's included. Want a little drama laced with a little angst? Yep, it has that too. Lots of sexy, sassy banter? Most definitely! Have to have a few plot twists? Well, you're in luck because they're also included! Need a few shenanigans and lots of humor thrown in for comic relief? Oh absolutely! Prefer a read with a few thrills, chills and a lot of bite? You bet! Must be a story that will tug on your heartstrings but still leave you with a silly grin and a serious case of the warm and fuzzies? Absolutely! As I said - this book has it all. I laughed! I cried! And I found myself holding my breath while my heart skipped and stuttered! Yes, it's that good! So, what are you waiting for? Grab it and start reading. The author does a fabulous job of including sufficient backstory so each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone. However, I would still highly recommend reading all the books in the series. It's one decision you'll never regret. I think one of the things I enjoy most about Hartnady's books and especially this series, is the fact that all the stories take place in the same world with many of our favorite characters from her other series appearing throughout all the books. It's no small feat for an author to seamlessly orchestrate, coordinate and integrate each story/series with the other and requires a tremendous amount of work, organization, skill, and craftsmanship but Charlene has managed to make it look easy. I love it! This story is unique, exceptionally well crafted, fast-paced, cute, fun, romantic and seductive. Heck, I'm almost 64 and even I want to apply for "The Program." The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view from the two protagonists. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, flows effortlessly and at times, absolutely hilarious. The entire book is extremely well edited which is always a big plus for me. The characters are an absolute joy. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. As I stated earlier, another big plus for me is the recurring appearance of many of the characters from previously released books. It's always a treat to see how our favorite characters are doing. Charlene skillfully combines these elements into a delightfully entertaining tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, fun-filled adventure, heartbreaking angst, a generous measure of a romping good time and loads of dreamy romance! Where can I sign up for "The Program?"
The premise for this series is quite original and unlike anything I've ever read. I'm not a writer nor a professional reviewer but I'll try to give you a brief summary. Vampire Kings, Zane and Brant, are now proud papas of a bouncing baby boy named Sam and when they aren't trying to keep their human mate Queen Tanya, happy and satisfied, they're both busy implementing their new "Breeding Program" also known as "The Program." What? Breeding Program? Oh yes, I said breeding program. Zane and Brant have learned from Ward, the Alpha of the wolf shifters and Stephany's new mate, that despite their earlier beliefs, humans are strong enough to survive a mating with both shifters and vampires. It seems the shifters have been doing it for years, in secret of course. The Kings have finally embraced this new idea and have been hard at work drawing up the contracts with the human authorities and finalizing the arrangements so that the warriors from their combined covens will now be able to choose human females for mates. Their hard work has finally paid off and they're launching the first stage of "The Program" by advertising for women to volunteer to date/mate a vampire. Huh? Yep, the elite vampire warriors have competed in hand to hand combat to win one of the ten coveted slots in The Program. The winners participated in a three-day trial to eliminate anyone that suffers from 'blood lust'. The program has now progressed through the first round and now into the 'second heat' where the men interact/date the second group of human females and yes, that does include sex and blood drinking. Oh my! The human women have been carefully screened and will be monetarily compensated for their participation, even if they aren't chosen to be a mate. Sounds like quite a dangerous and expensive undertaking but unfortunately, one that has become a necessary risk since vampires are becoming extinct. Although it's dangerous for human women to give birth to vampire babies, most female vampires cannot safely birth children at all and have to be sterilized. Sadly, the births resulting from vampire/human unions have only been male. As a result, there's a shortage of viable females thereby creating the problem - they need human women. But not everyone is happy about the new program and one group has already made an attempt on the life of King Zane and several of the human female applicants. So now it seems that not only are the vampires at risk but also anyone involved with The Program may be in danger as well. Oh my goodness!
Beautiful, curvaceous Amber is having a hard time accepting the fact that she has been accepted into The Program and an even harder time coming up with an excuse to get out from under her parents ever watchful eyes. But at age twenty-seven, an only child still living at home with her parents, working at her family's hardware store, and with a name like Amber Jane Merle Raithwhite, what can you expect? Heck, she didn't even apply for The Program. This is all her best friend, Izzy's fault who not so kindly, went behind her back, pretended to be her and filled out an online application. And yikes - they called her in for an interview, then a second interview and now she's been accepted. Oh my! Her overprotective parents will never, ever approve. So, what's an enterprising young woman to do? Lie, of course, tell them she's going to Paris, France for a couple of weeks! Oh my gracious! No human guy has ever really wanted her in the past, so surely no handsome, hunky vampire in their right mind would ever want a slightly chubby, very conservative girl like her. She has absolutely nothing to worry about, right? Wrong! Apparently, there isn't just one vampire, but three hot to trot vampires who are interested in the lovely, sweet, sassy but quite shy Amber! Oh my! And as it turns out, one of the three is none other than Sweetwater's most eligible vampire bachelor, Lance, the one who has openly declared he isn't interested in finding a mate! Good grief! What's a girl to do in order to protect her reputation and her heart! Slap his arrogant, cocky but very handsome face a few times, pretend she's not interested, lead him on a merry chase and give him a run for his money! Lance is more determined than ever to make it through the second and final heat and NOT interact with any more of the human females. Nope, never going to happen! After the fiasco of losing his former mate Stephany, almost killing her new wolf shifter mate, actually killing his best friend, Griffin, losing his position as Captain of the Elite Guard and almost losing his friendship with King Zane, Lance has learned his lesson, the hard way and plans to keep his nose clean from here on out. No more human females and no more mates - ever! Unfortunately, his heart fails to get the memo because no matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stop thinking about the beautiful human Amber. Every female, vampire as well as human, has always fallen at his feet, so why isn't she? And she calls him names and says she hates him! What? To heck with that! The gauntlet has been thrown and the challenge is on! He wants her - only for sex, of course! Or is it? Oh my! Here we go again! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful, shy, reserved and very inexperienced twenty-seven-year-old woman-check! Handsome, sexy, cocky and very arrogant elite vampire guard-check! A wonderful cast of characters-check! Danger, drama, a little angst, dangerous enemies and evil machinations-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, adorable humor, steamy sex and a very surprising romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for the next book in the series. Deliciously cute, seriously sexy, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining!
I must admit, I began this book with all intentions of hating it because up until this point, Lance has been quite the cad and very unlikeable. But I loved it! Once I started reading, I couldn't get enough! It's by far, my favorite to date! So, what didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! What did I love about this book? Everything but especially the heated banter and hilarious interaction between Lance and Amber. It was different, creative and not the same old instant mate, instant love and instantly falling into bed with each other. Well, maybe they did instantly fall in lust with each other but you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I love it when there is an instant attraction but it's a refreshing change to occasionally shake things up. Would I recommend this book??? You bet and I am but only for adult readers! Will I read this author again? Absolutely, just as soon as she releases her next book! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read.
I’m going to have to take a break from this series. Lance was a deal breaker for me. Though I really liked that the FMC here really put him in his place over and over I just still really can’t stand the guy. I only finished it because I am interested in the underlying plot and because of the verbal beat downs our FMC is giving Lance.
I was excited to see our dragon shifters mentioned multiple times in this book and love seeing how their stories are entwined with each other. Honestly all our main guys are mated now and since I’m not super interested in Kai who is next I kind of want to skip to Titan. I feel like he might have an interesting story and he’s going to be working with some female named “ball buster”. She sounds like a bad A. Just need a break I think.
I loved this love/hate relationship between Lance and Amber because it was funny and a little romantic in a weird way. I really liked that Lance finally got his happy ending and that he tried to make up for what he did a little bit at the end. I just laughed and smiled throughout this whole book. I really excited to read Titan's book.
I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangles (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower. Sassy, headstrong females, and fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when smoking hot vampires and shifters, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own. Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real. It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud. Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!
My hypes about this series just slow down a bit or a lot. There were some I liked a lot with this one because Lance was just too much and was completely throw out of the curves. But there were not many excitement in this one. It was okay, a bit too much intimate short actions, which were the purpose and how they came to the fact they were in love. Anyway, I'm off reading the next one. Kai, I just know nothing about that character and what happened, not really a single real clue.
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book five of seven of The Program series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)
Have you ever wanted to date a vampire? Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a non-disclosure clause. Limited positions available.

I highly recommend to everyone.
Meek, twenty-seven-year-old--working for the parents--lives at home--dresses like a book marm, good girl Amber Raithwhite makes the cut for The Program hoping to break free and spice up her sheltered life with a vampire. Here we go...
Amber's not like the other girls. She doesn't flaunt her goods in skimpy, tight clothes. Nope. Amber wears business suits! That doesn't stop her from being the belle of the ball and catching quite a view of the vamp's attention. Especially Brynn and Kai. The two friends are ready to come to blows over who will be the first to get into her pants...er, skirt, and possibly make a connection for compatibility. Oy vey!
Little do Brynn and Kai know, Amber (who could have guessed!) has been getting dirty with the devil himself, aka Lance. Say what?!
Amber puts Lance through his paces from kissing, "exclusivity" and dating. Lance doesn't know what hit him or which end is up and is falling so fast and so hard, denial is having a hard time keeping pace.
Arguably the best story thus far in this series because Lance gets his comeuppance and then some. Not just from Amber, who swings a mean fist as well as verbal insults, but his ex-mate Stephany and her mate Ward and their cubs make a trip to the castle and the fist will fly.
The question is not whether Lance is finally over Stephany and can he keep it together seeing her and her family, but rather can he remain commitment and mate free.
A fun installment into The Program. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 4 stars.
The Bad Boy in need of a saving is not enough to describe Lance. He is a serious bad guy! Until you see his sweet side. Who better to make him beg and scream than his mate? A woman tough as nails who decides he is her man for sex but not good enough for keeps. I loved her! From the very beginning to the last words of the book, the most amazing female character since Tanya, is the perfect match to put the pig in his place. A mate for Lance shows how a woman can bend the most unrepentful guy, if she puts her heart to it. Only she loses said heart, because his brooding is for show. Lance only needed a hard hand to hold his reins and straighten his game. He finds her. And loves it. This book is the first of the series to give the limelight to a bad guy. Charlene has a way to show out the best and the good in a character and make the reader change her mind. I loved the book!
To be clear, I am only awarding 3 stars because I'm a hopeless sucker for the enemies to lovers bit. Lance was all about getting laid, and AMBER (god save me from doe-eyed damsels given my name) was only slightly less obnoxious than the Mary Sue from the previous book.
I should subtract a star for the ending, because WHAT Charlene? Lance explains to Amber that the more sex they have (his vampire sperm is not just macho, but MAGICAL) the more of his traits she will absorb/acquire - and thus her allergies will be cured!
Got the sniffles? Here, have an injection of DICK, it'll fix you right up. I had to read that part again just to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. Then again, any vision problems can just be cured with a good fucking, so what do I care.
I just love this series ( along with the Chosen series ). They are dramatic , fun , sexy and brimming with hot guys! It was nice to have Lance ( who we loved to hate following his mental crash after his "mate" fell in love with Ward, alpha leader of a wolf pack ) become the male he should be when he falls for Amber , a woman accepted into the " Program ". Amber makes him work for her affections which brings this arrogant male to his knees ( and more than once ...lol ). A must read!
So Lance wasn’t my favourite character at all since I’ve reading the whole story line. However I fucking loved Lance story the most. At first my opinion about the leading lady Amber was that she was weak but I was wrong. Amber had some great lines that made my laughing so hard. Now I was more of Charlene Program books were like this story. This was funny, great batter between Amber and Lance. The sex scenes were steamy and hot. Lance really changed and you saw him in a different light. Loved this book
Lance is a vampire with a chip on his shoulder a mile wide. He started out as a womanizer and has moved to indifference. Now, in his last possible time to enter the program, he either has to find his mate or give up on having a human one. But don’t lose hope, this is Lance we are talking about, he does everything in his own time and in his own way. The love, and upset, in this book keeps your interest and keeps the story moving. I can’t wait to see what comes out of the Program next.
Amber and Lance's love/hate attraction set the pages on fire and constantly stirred the plot with all sorts of strong emotions. Although many humorous situations developed early on in their relationship, the storyline took a dramatic and frightening turn toward the end of this narrative. Clearly, this couple didn't have a clue about what they were truly feeling or how to communicate with each other. Watching them realize what was actually happening between them made for another very enjoyable story. Can't wait to start on another of Ms. Hartnady's books.
Lance the pretty vampire he is really good looking strong and fit and dominant but a little broken. He died when the wolves kidnapped his mate Stephany and it took sometime to bring him back he believed he truly loved the female but it was false. Amber a beautiful curvy human walks into his life and bam he is changed forever they go through a tough time trying to convince themselves they are not in love but can't stop it in the end. A good read with a red hot arrogant male and super feisty female.
At one point I really hated Lance since he started giving Stephany before she was mated. I cannot believe how this story turned around, I thought he was going to be a lonely b@stard but there was his perfect match. Absolutely feel in love with this pairing as much as Lazarus & Alex! This book tore me apart, gave me hope, made me cried, then it made me fall in love with Lance’s softer side & laugh because he is oh so charming even with his crude language, his naughtiness and everything about him.
Hot damn this story was hilarious, sizzling HOT, and pure, dripping, heathenism! I mean Lance is one seductive masochist! Makes a girl want to like it rough. This books gives a whole new meaning to LOVE/HATE relationship. I think more than Lazarus & Alexandra! I mean Lance is that asshole you can’t resist! Shiiet
If you are looking for seductive, salacious nights, read this book.
A Mate for Lance, book 5 of Charlene Hartnady's The Program series is Lance and Amber's story. Lance doesn't believe in love anymore. Sex is all be wants, it's all be believes be can have with a female. Amber wants love, commitment and a future so she signs up for the program looking for love. Their journey is full of ups and downs and lots of sex. It'll keep you guessing.
The playboy has fallen. Lance is still in the program even though he has decided to not take a mate. Amber however doesn’t like him at all. So he decides she is perfect for a fuck buddy. She doesn’t like him and lets him know it all the time. Although her body likes him very much. It takes her almost dying for him to wake up and smell the roses. Another great book in this series.
He has had a really life since his mate was kidnapped and she mates with another species due to their mating was a mistake from day 1. Hes grumpy mean and oh so sexy. Amber has finally got away from her parents and found her a man...vampire that curls her toes and makes her..... well you need to read this one I loved it..next book is Kai...
This story is great, Amber gets picked to join The Program and has at least 3 bachelors interested in her. Lance decides he wants her, at first he is just about the sex but soon he has feelings that he can't deny. He is not used to feeling jealous & its quite enjoyable too follow his downfall from eligible bachelor.
The biggest Player in the Vampire compound met his match! Love the chemistry between Lance and Amber, plus we get a revisit from previous characters and new characters introduced. Great lead into the next book. Loving this series.
I like this series, it has a lot of the same characters from the chosen series. It is great to see every one of the characters find their mate. Also, the sex scenes are great!
Loved how she was a challenge that he couldn't resist, and how she stood up for herself and was in denial. He h ad to work hard for what he wanted and met his match. To me it's funny and the best so far. I look forward to the next story of this series.
All the books in this series are good but this one was great. Lance and Amber's story was so good I read it in one day. Looking forward to book 6. I really enjoy Charlene Hartnady's writing. DanaLynn
It wad fuunnny, romantic, dramatic, love the love & hate between both of them. I wad so addicted to it that I finished it in a day & a half. Looooooove it!!!!!! 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
A really, really great read especially when it contains a MC that needs redemption. Best stories ever. Lance earned his redemption and I loved that he was a really, really great guy underneath his butt-holery!!!
