A love more powerful than any other, and a darkness intent on destroying it.
James and Ainsley are desperate. As darkness nearly consumes James, their only chance is to trust people who may be foes, and hope their love is strong enough to save them all.
Alyssa Rose Ivy is the bestselling author of more than forty novels with over one million books sold worldwide. She loves to weave stories with romance and humor, and she is best known for writing about college boys with wings. After surviving law school and earning her masters in library science, she turned back to her creative side and decided to write. Although raised in the New York area, she fell in love with the South after moving to New Orleans for college. She lives in Alabama with her two children, and she can usually be found with a cup of coffee in her hand.
This series seems to be moving slowly and I was surprised this novel didn't wrap it up. Without the next book to move straight on to, the movement of the story doesn't compel me to wait with baited breath for the next installment.
I have never written a bad review, some have contained criticisms, but stayed fairly positive overall. I have a wide variety of tastes and tend to stick to authors with a proven track record or authors recommended by my favorite authors. Writing is a skill that I covet and I believe should be nurtured, not disparaged. Forged in Fire is the 3rd book in this series. I liked the first two and have always enjoyed Alyssa Rose Ivy's books. She fits into the reliable author category. Her books are a good escape for a few hours. Her characters are likable with good romantic connections. I have never been more disappointed with a book. What should have taken me a few hours to read, took 3 days. I had to force myself to continue at times; always believing that it would get better. The story was not bad, although not much happened. There were a few new characters introduced, but previous ones were not included in this part of the story. New or previous, most characters have not been flushed out enough. I still love James and Ainsley and their relationship, but even my love for the leads was tested. Sex is not a relationship. Their connection has been weakened and without characters to root for, there is no point in continuing on with the story. Good and evil and the complexities of each is not entertaining enough to make a book enjoyable. Books like this need to be character driven. The setting, the action can enhance a story, but a book's success is driven by the characters.
The main problem with the book was the writing itself. It was choppy, repetitive, and juvenile. The dialog was cringe-worthy at times. I felt like the author put very little effort into this book. And since not much happened, there will be a book 4 before we get the conclusion. I feel cheated. I started a series that had much potential, and after I invested in the characters and the story's outcome, the writing became so poor I may not be able to make myself read the final book.
"I need you. You are what keeps the darkness at bay." "I can not fight it without you."
Forged in Fire is the third and exciting book in The Forged Chronicles. Forged in Fire picks up right where Forged in Ice left off. Ainsley and James are trying to deal with the latest twist that has been thrown their way. The latest twist has dire effects and now they must try to figure out a way to fix things before it's too late. Their quest won't be easy and learning who to trust has never been more important....
Forged in Fire was a quick and easy read for me. I loved getting lost in James and Ainsley's world again. I easily devoured Forged in Fire, in just one sitting. The love and connection that James and Ainsley share is stronger than ever before and they are just now understanding what it all means. The stage has been set and everything is now coming together. Their road to HEA isn't going to be an easy one and they are going to have a lot of obstacles along their way. I am hooked and can not wait to see how everything will come together in the end!
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
James is quite the possessive man, “do not touch my kindred!” I could not contain my anger at another man touching her. My need for her was growing by the second." We are of course left with a cliffhanger, but I didn't find it all to bad. I loved James he was protective, and possessive and sexy.
OMG this book was awesome, Such an amazing story, I really really need to know what's come next, Hopefully the wait isn't too long. A really great book from Alyssa.
The story unfolds and more light is shone on Ainsley's story. We start to realize exactly how her involvement in Energo comes in to play. Her love for James is put to the test and she must decide to stay with him or leave him in order to save him. But leaving him might actually be the worst thing for James as he battles the darkness within himself.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was in no way compensated for this review.
Forged in Fire continues James and Ainsley’s story in The Forged Chronicles by Alyssa Rose Ivy! By now, you all know how much of a fan I am of Alyssa’s Chronicles books! They’re so amazingly good that I can’t always talk coherently about them! New Adult is still one of those up and rising genres that everyone talks about and what makes Alyssa’s Chronicles books so awesome is that they’re paranormal related and you all know without a doubt I am a huge paranormal fan!
While you don’t ever really have to read each series in the order that they release, you do need to read the series themselves in order. For instance, you could started with The Forged Chronicles and then go to The Dire Wolves Chronicles and backtrack to the Flight Chronicles, should you so choose to. But as always I will advise on reading the series themselves in the order that they release because sometimes there are those little details that come about in the current series that might lead to a spoiler about a previous one. So just keep that in mind!
Now onto Forged in Fire! We pick up where we left Ainsley and James, which naturally was in dire straits! Ainsley had been thrown into a frozen lake by Gregor and James had done the unthinkable and accepted his dead father’s help. Yeah, people rarely ever stay dead in paranormals which is why I have become a skeptic every time someone dies! LOL! We basically see that all is well—for the moment—with Ainsley and James, but it’s not long at all before the you-know-what hits the fan!
We get a lot of surprises in this one! In that I mean, a lot of details about this and that are revealed that are pretty shocking! I can’t wait to see what this will mean for our characters in the finale that is upcoming!
Perhaps the saddest thing about this one was how James and Ainsley are separated for a great deal of time. James fears that by allowing his father to take residence in his body, which is sort of complicated to explain because it doesn’t really feel like an all-out ghostly possession, but still a possession of sorts, that he may lose control over himself and Ainsley could get hurt so he sends her back to Charlotte and to find Talen to help her there. Ainsley’s journey is quickly waylaid by an elf named Elron, who might just be the person she needs to get help from.
From there, things get complicated as we start looking at things in a different light and basically getting my every excited about seeing how this one will wrap up. If you’ve been following the series so far, you know that Ainsley is still poisoned and needs James in order to survive. Should they go too long without being together, things will get bad real fast.
There’s a great deal of tension in this one. The suspenseful kind, mind you. There’s so much I feel like we don’t quite know. Mostly in regard to James’ father. Though through him, James does learn things about his father with his memories. It leads to interesting developments that might help form the bigger picture once the end is near, which will be the next book!
I’ve mentioned Alyssa numerous times by now, I’m sure, but if you haven’t read her books yet you should! They are just fantastic New Adult reads! I haven’t read many New Adult books, besides a few others than hers, but I must say hers are pretty much my favorite that I come back to again and again! And if paranormal/fantasy (for this particular series) isn’t quite your thing, she does have a few contemporary New Adult series you can check out too! Forged in Fire was mind-blowingly awesome and I am most eager to seeing how things will wrap up for James and Ainsley! Join me in this torturous wait so I don’t have to suffer alone! ;)
If there is one thing that I love most about Alyssa Rose Ivy’s writing, it’s the intricate world that she creates. In the Forged Chronicles, ARI does exactly that by taking you back to where it all began in her writing career with the city of Belgard, the Essence, and the Source. Forged in Fire is the third book in the Forged Chronicles series and heavily relates back to the Afterglow Trilogy that began ARI’s career as a writer. You do not have to read the Afterglow Trilogy in order to read Forged Chronicles, however I highly recommend it so you can start at the very beginning of the intricate city and see where the story of James began.
In Forged in Fire, ARI continues to take us on Ainsley and James’ journey that is filled with twists and turns at every corner. This is a story of trust, love, and faith. I found it easy to get lost in James’ world. His possessive nature and deep connection to Ainsley fascinated me as I read. The stronger their connection grew, the more adventurous the story became, finally setting the stage and giving us all answers to our long awaited questions.
ARI continues to hook me with each and every book she writes where it’s PNR or Contemporary Romance, they are all addictive. Her attention to detail is ever present and flawless as always commanding my brain to attention to try to piece together what could happen next. I could never give readers a higher recommendation than picking up one of her books. You’ll be a fan for life if you read just one. Forged in Fire is no different. Get lost in the Forged Chronicles now with James and Ainsley.
I was very disappointed in this book because I am a big fan of Alyssa Rose Ivy. What usually takes me a day to read took a week to get through, and I had to force myself to finish it. Luckily, the book is relatively short, otherwise I may have put it down permanently.
"Forged in Fire" is the third installment of the Forged Chronicles. It has been a year since the 2nd installment came out - and this book did a poor job of reminding readers of the important events that previously occurred in the story. I spent a good amount of time racking my brain trying to remember details and as a result felt lost while reading.
In addition, I grew to very much dislike Ainsley, the lead female character in the book. I understand that this is an NA book, but Ainsley's overuse of the words "thingie" and "stuff" made her appear unintelligent and immensely annoying. Furthermore, the longer the story went on, the whinier and brattier Ainsley became. I am disappointed that the author sacrificed the intelligence and maturity of her main character in an attempt to connect with her NA readers. This sacrifice was unnecessary - and should be insulting to younger readers.
I can only hope that the fourth installment of this series redeems itself.
Forged in Fire delivers everything I'd hoped it would as we continue the story of James and Ainsley. Lot's of surprises and twist and for those who haven't read the Afterglow Trilogy, you may want to just as a background.
James again swoons, but now he's dealing with the revelations being shared with him by Daddy Dark. Nothing is what it seems in this tale and I found myself just staring at my eReader with a giant question mark (that's a good thing).
Ainsley, is not the same person she was in any of the previous books. What makes ARI's writing so perfect, is that she allows her characters to develop. They may start off mildly sniveling or annoying to some, but as they progress, you see the strength they encompass and become heroic in their own right.
Along the way, we meet with previous characters (can't tell ya, but I was happy) and new ones that instantly capture a place in your heart. If you're like me, it's hard not to like someone, even if they may be the villain.
I'm excited about the direction of the Forged Series and I can't wait to see what happens at the end. With so many wheels turning in the story, I have a feeling there will be more Fantastic Whimsy in the next books to follow!
OMG. James you grabbed my heart and I actually sway towards you so much now! I feel like I'm betraying my Jared! But oh my. You are a fine fine man!
In here James and Ainsley have a tough choice: be together or go separate ways to find a cure for Ainsley. Either choice is not easy and certainly none of them know the consequences of either of them. James is struggling with his new powers and also flashes from Daddy Dearest, he is not sure which emotions, feelings, thoughts are his and which are influenced by Daddy. His choices are believed to be the best for Ainsley but are they truly? Or are they a part of an evil plan? SO many questions that I can't wait to discover in the next part!
Ainsley is getting more tired. She is not sure why her condition is getting worse. Even making love to James seems to not help her anymore. She is not sure what else can be done. She is scared and lost. But only thing she is sure about are her feelings towards James.
Alyssa brings new and old characters to the story which makes it even more interesting.
This part was everything that I expected and it definitely left me hanging impatient for the next part.
I really love all of the chronicles by author Alyssa Rose Ivy. Though the Forged Chronicles are not my favorite, I do like the way they tie in to The Afterglow Trilogy… also by Ivy. She provides a great dose of fantasy to go along with the paranormal elements found in all her chronicles.
I like the characters that Ivy creates for the Forged Chronicles. These characters, perhaps more so than the other chronicles, are studies of light and dark… especially James. Motives are murky, as yet, for most of them.
The more of the story that is revealed, the less obvious the eventual outcomes. This book ends with a major cliffhanger, and I have no clue where the next book may lead. The writing is imaginative and intriguing.
That is what makes these Forged Chronicles so compelling. There is no telling what may happen next, for the story or it’s characters. 4 stars
4 1/2 Stars for Forged in Fire! I couldn't put it down!
Ainsley and James's story continues as the darkness threatens to consume James. As the darkness takes root James begins experiencing more and more of his father's memories and he finds that the past is not exactly what he was led to believe. All the while Ainsley must dig deep as she begins to question everything she knows about their relationship. In the end she has to put her faith in not only James but in herself. Ainsley must decide to what lengths she will go to save her kindred from the darkness. As the events unfold and new characters are introduced our star crossed couple face their biggest challenge yet. The cliffhanger at the end has me chomping at the bit for Forged in Light!
In this installment the darkness is taking over. And there is a whole lot of twists turns and plot changers. But there is also explained back stories and clues in the fact finding. However you're never really sure what's a lie or the truth. And that's how the book ends. Oh and throw in some hot sex and dramatic intervals between the characters. Waiting for book 4 is going to be crazy.
Noooooooo!!!! This is a must read. If you've read the first two books, you have to continue. It gets better. I love James and Ainsley. What a cliffhanger. Can't wait until the next book!!!
