This Russian fairy tale featuring Baba Yaga, a witch who zips around in her flying stone mortar, is beautifully illustrated by artist Ksenia Annis. It is a classic story of hard work and perseverance triumphing over evil with a little supernatural assistance. Suitable for older children, teens and adults, it is an excellent introduction to one of the most fascinating characters in Slavic folklore. Baba Yaga is a wonderfully deep character, sometimes helpful to those she encounters, but in this tale decidedly evil as the heroine of the tale, Lubava, learns very quickly.
