Tybalt Marr, Captain of the Sons of Horus, swears to bring down a thorn in the Warmaster's side: the commander of the so-called "Shattered Legions", the infamous Shadrak Meduson.

Captain Tybalt Marr of the Sons of Horus, so often overlooked by his more glory-hungry brethren, returns to his Legion in triumph. However, his boasts of having slain the infamous Iron Hands warleader Shadrak Meduson soon fall flat when he learns of the recent assassination attempt on Horus himself. Gathering his forces upon the conquered world of Dwell, Marr returns to battle against the Shattered Legions, determined to earn his rightful place in history.

Running time 67 minutes. Performed by Gareth Armstrong, John Banks, Robin Bowerman, Ian Brooker, Steve Conlin, Toby Longworth, Luis Soto & Ramon Tukaram.

It shows the Shattered Legions from another perspective: the enemies they're harrying; it also gives a spotlight to a Sons of Horus character who's been around from the Heresy's beginning.

April 2024 Re-Read using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project Reading Order Omnibus XII The Truth of Iron (https://www.heresyomnibus.com/omnibus...) as part of my Oath of Moment to complete the Horus series and extras.

I don't have a huge amount to add from my previous review, though I am bumping it up a star as, even though it isn't mind-blowing, it really is written well and with a weight and form that makes the characters feel actually alive and tangible, which sadly isn't always the case.

Having read so much of the Horus Heresy now and coming back to this, I am struck by a marked difference in the way the Sons of Horus are written about. There is a humanity and openness to their emotions and inner workings that authors seem to instinctually include. I had previously wondered if this was an opening trilogy focus thing, especially with Loken being the most humane transhuman who ever lived, but it persists into and beyond the turning of the Traitors Extremis. It's everything I want in the Heresy and wish this perspective was applied more liberally to other Legions. ADB's Word Bearers and World Eaters also takes this approach and it's no wonder those Legions and tales are among my favourites.

Through using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project (www.heresyomnibus.com) and my own choices, I have currently read 22.41 Horus Heresy novels, 13 novellas, 70 short stories/ audio dramas (including at least 3 repeats), as well as the Macragge's Honour graphic novel, 13 Primarchs novels, 4 Primarchs short stories/ audio dramas, and 2 Warhammer 40K further reading novels...this run. I can't say enough good about the way the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project suggestions. I'm loving it! Especially after originally reading to the releases and being so frustrated at having to wait so long for a narrative to continue.

Initial Review 3/5

A Graham McNeil, Gareth Armstrong, and the Sons of Horus combination is always going to have that certain Horus Heresy something, even more so when the Mournival make an appearance, however briefly. But this is a competent story that is entertaining enough, not quite reaching the vaunted heights I have come to expect from these ingredients.

Always the bridesmaid, never the the bride, Tybalt Marr, the unfortunately nicknamed The Either to his fallen doppelganger, Verulam Moy, The Or, took the death of Moy on Davin and his lack of recognition, somewhat in light of his resistance to the warrior lodge, hard. Taking out his frustrations on the not-so-shattered Iron Hands and the galvanised Shattered Legions under the Iron Hands Warleader, Shadrak Meduson, he has spent time away from his brothers. Reunited and shunned again, Marr disobeys orders and takes the fight to the Iron Hands again in the hopes of proving the organised threat the Shattered Legions have become, and in doing so gain recognition in his gene-site's eyes.

This is a well written, nicely directed, and wonderfully performed audio drama that has the veneer of being a top tier Sons of Horus tale, but there is a certain something, perhaps cruelly apropos for Marr, that fails to make it connect. Still, it's worhrt a listen.

Compelling character drama focusing on Tybalt Marr of the Sons of Horus. This audio drama takes place after the events of "Meduson", "Little Horus", and "The Vengeful Spirit".

Tybalt Marr was tasked with cleaning up the remnants of the Shattered Legions in the wake of the Dropsite Massacre, in the process making an enemy of Shadrak Meduson.

Now the Mournival has been reformed, and Tybalt Marr was not selected to join. Feeling spurned and rejected, resentment grows within him. There is an insecurity to Marr over being passed over, he is wounded by the rejection. Part of this stems from his nickname "The Either" to pair with his doppelganger Verulam Moy "The Or". Marr feels like his achievements never received the respect he deserved.

The politics and debates of the Mournival really brought me back to "Horus Rising". I enjoyed seeing this aspect of the Sons of Horus. That they waged the war against Terra with purpose and focus, and not like cackling Saturday morning cartoon villians. All the characters felt like they were written with a degree of emotional vulnerability, there was a tangibility to them that I really bought into.

Depsite being the anatgonist of the Meduson saga, Tybalt Marr really grew on me in this story. He has a vulnerability and humanity to him that makes it difficult to not to connect with him. We next see Tybalt Marr in "The Old Earth".

Honestly, great story. Tybalt Marr is a decent character, but it's Horus, Abaddon and "Little Horus" Aximand that really did it for me. They're all written with a great understanding of what makes them unique, where Black Library books often tend to make warriors of a single legion copy-pasted versions of each other. Really solid, thoroughly recommended.

Another excellent addition from the Meduson anthology that gives us the perspective from the Sons of Horus. Both Marr and Meduson are engaging characters that are begging for more to be written about them and I look forward to how their dual develops.

Los hijos de Horus son unos fantasmas, una de las legiones más sobrevaloradas de todas junto con las cicatrices blancas, necesitan superar al enemigo en todos los sentidos para ganar una batalla.

Solid read with more contact between the main fleet of the Sons of Horus running in with members of the Shattered Legions, being spearheaded by Shadrak Meduson

This paints the picture for what will likely be a stronger hunt from Marr, separating him from the newly formed Mournival

A Son of Horus gets humbled as a liar. There are more Iron Hands connections which ehh.

These audiodramas really hook you in! I love the Black Legion of the 41st millennium and its fascinating seeing them before their fall. Horus' voice actor was on point! The question on my mind, like the Mournivals in the story, who is Shadrack Meduson? I'm not really an Iron Hands fan, but this drama has me interested in learning about the Shattered Legionaires.
