Brides of War
1947. Excited and in love Gracie Brown leaves her home in England and moves to America with her husband Jeff. With little money and no job prospects, the couple move in with Jeff's parents whilst they find their feet in a land where promise seems to only come to those who start off far better than they have. Rich and stylish Valerie Brampton has just arrived in New York to move into her new swish apartment with American husband Captain Ross Johnson. When Valerie discovers more about Ross' life as she meets more of his family she's left feeling increasingly isolated. Uprooted from their lives in England, GI brides Gracie and Valerie must face up to their new surroundings and overcome the troubles that come their way in order to be with the men they love.

finally a book that I enjoyed reading chapter after chapter page after page
Up till now when I ordered the books, they sounded so good and then you got to reading them and they were not so good. This was a good down-to-earth book. I enjoyed it so much. Why because there was no silly sex into it I don’t mind reading about loving sex a married couple even partners but some of these authors get carried away. I really believe that if there is that much sex in the book 40% or more there should be a notation with the book that says.” sexual “encounters in this book.” then if you want to order the book and read it, you know what’s coming. I will certainly read this author’s books again.

This book was as unemotional as an AI-generated novel. It follows two war brides from England as they travel to their new husbands in their American homes. One settles in New York City and the other in small-town Colorado. Realizing that the men they married during WWII were virtual strangers in civilian life, the two women set out to make a life in this new country. While stiff in its dialogue and plot and a mess of dismal punctuation and dropped words, the book is an easy read and reveals the perils of, as they say, marrying in haste, repenting at leisure.

This was an excellent read. I enjoyed how the two war brides came to America and were United with their husbands. The turmoil that occurred was very interesting and the outcome couldn’t have been better.

Wonderful book
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this heart warming book which tells the story of Valerie and Gracie who both met GI's, married them and went to live in the States.

Gracie and Valerie are both war brides who are on their way to America to be reunited with their husbands. Gracie married Jeff who's living in Barton, a small mountain town. They move in with his parents, because Jeff doesn't have enough money for a place of their own yet. Valerie married Ross, who's working for his father's law firm in New York. They move into a beautiful luxurious apartment. Soon the two women find out that nothing is as it seems and life with their new husbands might not be as ideal as they initially thought...
Gracie is such a sweet girl and I didn't want anything to happen to her. She doesn't deserve what's coming to her at all. I felt so bad for her and was glad that although most things weren't all right some good things were happening as well. Valerie is much more talented than she thought and she soon discovers she can have a life of her own in America. Her husband isn't very supportive, but I knew she would be all right. Both women have to go through a lot. Life isn't just sunshine and happiness and I liked that June Tate didn't avoid the bad moments. She never sugarcoated them or let them be balanced with an exact amount of good. Still the book isn't negative at all.
I found a few editing mistakes, but not enough to be bothered. I liked the story so much that I looked past them and continued enjoying the story. I loved that it isn't heavy and that the story is fast paced. A lot happens at once and Brides of War is never boring. The friendship between Gracie and Valerie is beautiful and that special connection makes the story even better. They both go their different ways, but they never forget each other. I think War Brides is a wonderful read about life, relationships, friendship, finding yourself and difficult but necessary decisions.

When Gracie Rider and Valerie Johnson leave their UK lives behind them to start new lives as GI brides in America after the end of the Second World War. They are full of hopes and dreams of what their lives will be. However all is not plain sailing, as they soon discover the reality of the dream to be not what they expected.
I really enjoyed reading this story, the brand new novel from author June Tate. It was the remarkable brave and strong leading ladies in the book that I really liked. Their determination, strength and independence to get what they want out of life, makes the story intriguing and the characters very likeable. I would really like to see what happens next for these wonderful women. I do hope there will be a sequel.

This book is about two GI brides who sail to America to start a new life with their husbands. Valerie and Gracie are from different backgrounds which I think makes the story more interesting. But their hopes and dreams are shattered and they both find themselves in difficult situations. I did enjoy the story but I found it difficult to believe how easy it was to make several journeys between England and America.

GI Brides leaving England to go to America it sounds so exciting. It is for some Gracie and Valerie are in love with their husbands until the true colours of their husbands are shown.
