James Brant was the only man she'd ever loved - and the last man Meryl Wallis ever wanted to see again. She'd placed her heart and all she'd ever worked for in his hands - and been repaid with betrayal.
Now James Brant was back, seeking forgiveness and claiming that only her help could save him from financial ruin. And despite her misgivings, Meryl agreed, seeing her chance for revenge. The ruthless Mr. Brandt would get a taste of his own bitter medicine. But only if she could resist the unforgettable passion that was no less strong the second time around...
This was such an emotion packed read. The hero/heroine were involved in a sexual relationship two years before, the hero was supposed to help her with her family publication business. But their growing intimacy scared the hero so much that he told her he was gonna sell her business and she felt betrayed and left. The hero orchestrates a meeting two years later, he has changed, his image and business have taken a hit since his partners were indicted for fraud; he feels deep remorse for what he did and has hated himself ever since. He wants her back but still alternates between being terrified of what she makes him feel. First off I loved how the heroine made him work to get her to come back and resurrect her business, she was cold and direct with him; I also loved how she schemed to get her own company back from under him. Two years before they never got to know each other and only had passion between them but as they spend time together again they get to know each other. She learns why he is so emotionally closed off (his dad's suicide). There are also threats to the hero's life because of his image. I loved the hero's jealousy when he sees how care-free she is interacting with certain men, his uncertainty if he could get her back. The heroine's doubt at the end made sense to me and I loved his grand gesture to her . Nice second-chance book.
