Easter comes but once a year. But this year the Easter Bunny was not participating, not taking charge, not helping out. The other animals had their duties and were working well. Not the Easter Bunny! Why? His excuse was that no one ever thanks him for all the work he does to create a special day for kids all over the world. So, he cancelled Easter. Oh my, oh my.
A wise and thoughtful owl is consulted. His solution warms the heart of the bunny. What the Easter Bunny is told is important for all kids to know. You’ll have to read the book to find out what that is.
Be sure to take a peek at ONE HUNDRED EGGS FOR HENRIETTA, another happy Easter book by Sally Huss.
For years I have wanted to do what I am doing now -- writing and illustrating my children's books. Electronic drawing pads and e-books have made it possible for me to create and publish my own books -- and do so in quantity. In the past, Harcourt Brace, Ten Speed Press, Thomas Nelson had only published a few.
The books were always squeezed in between art I needed to do to fill 26 Sally Huss Galleries (my degree was from USC in Fine Art); and licensing demands for clothing, greeting cards (American Greetings), purses, bibs, dinnerware, wallpaper; and the daily King Features Syndicated inspirational panel I do for newspapers called Happy Musings.
Through the years my art and writings have found their way into homes from Hollywood to The White House and perhaps even your house or your mother's.
Along with art, I have had a long history with tennis. In fact I was raised to be a champion (U.S. Junior and Wimbledon Champion, then a semi-finalist in the women's division at Wimbledonin singles and doubles). Later I became one of the top senior players in the country. This experience lead to my writing and illustrating a couple of books on the game -- EIGHT GOLDEN RULES FOR HOW TO PLAY YOUR BEST TENNIS (endorsed by Billie Jean King, Mary Carrillo, Dick Enberg, etc.) and LOVE LADIES LEAGUE TENNIS.
I mostly read the books of the French Philosopher Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov. For me, these present the clearest and most practical explanation of life and man's structure in it that I've come across. These light-filled pages send my heart soaring and give me food for my present work.
Presently I write, illustrate and paint in my Solana Beach, California studio where I live with my husband Marv. I also still play a bit of tennis and walk the beach daily.
Easter Bunny is cancelling Easter. Why should he bother? He works his tail off and for what? Nobody cares! Nobody thanks him or appreciates him! He's just going to lie on his hammock and make it disappear...that will teach them for ignoring him and not giving him the accolades that he so rightly deserves... so there kids take that! No treats for you this year!
But wait? What about the chickens that are laying eggs, the kittens who are dyeing those eggs, the dogs who are busy making chocolate candy, the ducks who are madly wrapping up candy to make it look dandy, the pigs who are hard at work digging up grass to line the baskets and the geese and swans who are struggling to make Easter baskets out of dried palm fronds? Don't they count? What about their feelings? They can't possibly pull Easter off without the commitment and magical speed of the Easter Bunny. Oh my! How does one solve a huge problem such as this?
When the animals find out why he cancels Easter they seek help from the wise and thoughtful owl who solves the problem easy-peasy. They apply his wise advice and voilà, the Easter Bunny snaps out of his depression, jumps out of his hammock, gets uber busy with his work and Easter is on once again! Yes!!! You go Easter Bunny!
The moral of the story? Always appreciate the efforts of others and be sure to let them know how you feel. Words of adoration are always much better received wrapped in a big, warm, squishy hug to seal the deal!
The illustrations are colourful, full of activity and emotion. This fun book is written in rhyme and the both the text and the illustrations flow freely from page to page. Check it out today. I highly recommend this book.

The Easter bunny is feeling underappreciated and wants to shirk his responsibilities. His friends are concern and seek advice. Can they help the Easter bunny? Will Easter be saved.? Pick up this book and find the answers, you will not be disappointed.
"Easter is Cancelled" is a wonderfully written book that is easy to read and illustrated with colorful picture to keep children entertained. Great for beginning reader as well as a picture book. Through the pages children will also learn about responsibility and more.
What I expected to be a fun book for children about Easter turned out to be so much more. This story by Sally Huss is one that children, parents and teachers will all enjoy. Not only was it a silly tale that children will enjoy taking place during the Easter season, but it was a book that teaches an important life lesson.
The illustrations were colorful and bright which will appeal to the youngest of readers, while "cool" enough for the older children to not view it as a baby book. As parents and children read this book, they can discuss the importance of lesson being presented. How doing things for other is the golden rule, and we should not expect others to praise and thank us for each and every small little thing which we do. We should be happy with the knowledge that we have done good for others, rather than be called out by others with praises.
Sally Huss, has written a lovely story about Easter. The story is told in rhyme - one of the best ways for children to learn to love books. Easter comes but once a year, but this year the Easter Bunny decides not to help out because no one ever thanks him for his all the work he does to make Easter special for all children – so Easter is Cancelled! All the animals are upset and ask the bunny why Easter is cancelled and eventually they discover that the most important things are the things we can’t see – like love and appreciation. Naturally, like all great children’s books, there is a happy ending. A delightful book full of great illustrations and wonderful messages.
I have not read Easter is Canceled to my nephew yet but, I think he will enjoy it! It is a sweet, adorable short story for first readers OR it is easily read as a bed time story!
Sally Huss has done it again. Made a great story with an amazing message, telling children and adults alike to appreciate others and the things they do. Enjoyed by myself and my kiddies.
This book was way too preachy. It is good to have a moral, but not if it has to be spelled out. The rhyming was off also. It is so difficult to do well, it would have read much smoother without it.
What happens when all the other animals are doing their part to get ready for Easter but the Easter Bunny has had enough? He feels unappreciated, unloved, and that all he does means nothing. With a little help the Easter Bunny realizes that what he does really does matter and that children everywhere do love him and appreciate what he does. All told this is a cute book that has a good story and a good moral. I felt like some of it was a bit 'preachy' and a bit too focused on the eggs and candy aspect and less on other important parts of Easter. This is not billed as a Christian book so I am not talking about faith aspect of Easter. Easter is more than candy and eggs. And this book leaves that out. In my adult opinion, some of the wording in this book is too mature for a younger reader/listener. The rhyming was a bit off so it was awkward to read aloud as well. Don't just take my word for it, as I read it with Goobie (4) and MooMoo (6) and asked their opinions of the book as well. I skipped Squirt (2) for this review as she wasn't really into much but trying to swipe the screen and Munchkin (8) rolled his eyes at me as he's been reading middle grade books for a while now (read too smart for his own good!).
Goobie really liked the story. He loved the pictures and asked to read the book multiple times. Some of the words he kept asking for them to be explained and other went so far over his head that he didn't even know how to ask. With multiple readings and some explaining he seemed to 'get it' better but his favorite was still the pictures.
MooMoo said she really liked the book. Her favorite part as when the Easter Bunny chose to go back to work for Easter. She really wanted to read it on her own however many of the words were too advanced for her reading level. Again, as with Goobie but not as involved, there was some need to explain what the words or intent of the words were. All in all though she liked it and has continued to try to read it independently.
