The single most fulfilling, game-changing state of mind a person can adopt is the notion that success is in the journey itself.
There are simply too many variables out of our control to define our success on outcomes only. Life is not a winner-take-all championship game, but a an excruciatingly long season with multiple chances every day to learn from losses, grow from successes, and make the appropriate changes along the way.
In 3 Things Successful People Do, New York Times bestselling author, coach, and speaker John C. Maxwell provides insight into what it means to truly be on the journey to success. No matter where you are on your journey, this invaluable resource will help you discover your personal road map and equip you with what you will need to change course, if necessary, and keep growing.

John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership. Titles include The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. Some of his books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List.

John Maxwell continues to deliver. This is maybe the third or fourth book that I have read from Mr. Maxwell who is maybe best known for his leadership books. The best book that I have read from him is the "11 Immutable Rules of Leadership" but I believe that this is the second best.
There are books on Knowing your Purpose, Growing to your Potential, and Mentoring delivering Significance. But the genius is that Mr. Maxwell packs these insights and lessons into one 200-page book. Maybe what I liked most about the book is to work hard to get something out of it and contemplate your key lesson and what you will do differently as a result of this book. I've been guilty of pushing through many books without the adequate deep review needed to get the most value out of them.
This book totally fuel me up to keep chasing my dreams and goals. The main idea of this book is about success is not a destination, but it is the journey of our whole life. Success is for everyone, not just for the lucky, the talented or privileged ones. Success is for homemakers, students, business people and even soon-to-be retirees. There's no complex formula for success. We just need to know our purpose, grow to our maximum potential, and sow seeds that benefit others. Purpose, growth and generosity is all we need.
Read this for a work book study. Books like these aren't my favorite to read but I can generally find a few positive nuggets to save and implement. For people who enjoy these books, it is a good read with helpful info.
I picked this book up on a whim at a FedEx Office.
I think this is a great book (would be a great gift) for a specific audience. I'm not that audience having read many a self-help book and article of this category. I've already started that journey and I believe this is more of a beginner book, but it has a bunch of great tips and reminders for people who feel burnt out. I would definitely recommend this as a gift for someone you know is in a rut and is religious.
Maxwell isn't obnoxious with his religion, but he was a pastor and his writing style is friendly and simple. I bought this book because of the writing style. Compared to the process-driven "What Color is your Parachute: 2017" (which I'm also reading) this is romantic and filled with quotes and anecdotes.
The pointers are good for anyone and the read is pleasant. If you're not a Christian (like me), the tone of this book might be off-putting at times. Yes, there are Bible verses, stories from the Bible and he makes God a top priority. Don't let that deter you, it's a great book.
Maxwell manages to fit a lot of helpful information in a brief book. If you're already into the journey you'll probably be familiar with the 3 successful things: Finding your purpose (dream/wish/w/e) followed up by fulfilling your potential (being a life learner, improving upon your abilities) and last, but not least, sewing seeds for others.
The last part of the book was important and core to Maxwell's overall system. Not many books focus on how to balance success with family and helping others reach their full potential. This last part is about community and what you bring to it and leave it with.
For me, that last part was worth the entire read and the perspective he's coming from is refreshing.
1. Know your purpose (make goals and work towards them) 2. Grow to your max potential (resist fear and don't give up) 3. Benefit others (family is important, surround yourself with growth-oriented people, and mentor others).
It could have been said much more succinctly and with less "it worked for me and it can work for you too!"
Well done Mr Maxwell!!
I enjoyed this in parts and was bored in others. Lots of platitudes but also good reminders. Find passion and go for it. Was motivating in the way of hammering not giving up. I really loved many of the quotes. You can tell he has droves of them filed away and they were inspirational ideas for getting going in the right direction and Not Stopping. Maxwell is really focused on leadership and would be a great read for someone running a company/organization. Just maybe wasn’t what I was looking for at the moment.
2 out of 5 stars. I was not impressed with this book. In general, his success pointers are thoughtful and thought provoking, but like many self help books this is about 100 pages too long. It also is full of anecdotal stories that seem like an excuse for the author to explain how successful he is. In the end I didn’t connect to the author or his stories, but I will remember to focus on my dream. #bookreview #leadership #notimpressed #bibliophile #bookworm
I have been reading John Maxwell's Books for over 25 years. This book with it's emphasis on mentorship resonated loudly. I believe Maxwell stretched deeper down that road than in prior books. Perhaps, I have matured to receive this message more clearly at this time. Regardless, I enjoyed the book and will recommend it to colleagues and younger leaders in my life!
John Maxwell provides an easy to read but difficult to achieve roadmap to success in front of us in this book. Focusing on fulfilling your life purpose by developing others. A good read with plenty of good stories, quotable segments and interesting elements. Add it to the list.
As always John Maxwell challenged me to be more in this book. This book has made me want to be more than I today or will be tomorrow. In this book he has given me the tools to help me along the journey of growing my life
It’s very readable book. Easy to understand the concepts and ideas the author is describing. I was considering giving 4 stars, because most of the things i knew already.. but i appreciate the well written summary and framework, that i decided to give the book full 5 stars
This book is for you if; (1) You want to grow as a person (2) You want to take your success to the next level. (3) You want to sense and understand the meaning of life
This doesn't give much of an impact on me. Let me just share to you one of the excerpts I highlighted on his book, "I had learned that shortcuts don't pay off in the long run. If I was going to have a chance to reach my potential, I was going to have to keep learning, growing and improving."
I like that Maxwell ties the importance of family relationships into the success formula; and that any true measure of success includes helping others succeed.
Lots of platitudes. Some good inspirational stories. Know where you want to go - Figure out how to get there - Help others along the way. Not worth your time/money.
