Maxwell is a leadership expert, speaker, and author. He is the founder of INJOY, Maximum Impact, The John Maxwell Team, ISS, and EQUIP. EQUIP is an international leadership development organization working to help leaders, involved with leaders from more than 80 nations.
Despite all of this, Maxwell's books are known for appealing to a secular audience. You won't find any quotes from the Bible.
Even if Maxwell declares himself to be a Christian, little to nothing of Jesus' teachings can be found in this book.
In July 2013, Maxwell's organization trained 24,000 leaders in Guatemala. He didn't care to mention Jesus at all, much less sharing the Gospel.

So much for all his prestige and reputation is worthless in the eyes of God.

Yikes.

After the three hundredeth pointless cliched metaphor I had to tap out. It’s driving at the same points as Arbinger, but is incredibly cloying. No thanks.

Well, I finally finished—after ALMOST THREE YEARS. Don’t let the length of time be a reflection of the quality of this book, though! I read part of it as course curriculum in a leadership program... and then read the rest in bits and pieces between college semesters.

This book condenses John Maxwell’s teaching into one big volume, covering:

• attitude
• self-improvement
• leadership
• relationships
• success
• teamwork
• equipping
• mentoring

This book helped me redefine what a leader is—so if you think this isn’t for you, guess again! If you influence another human being in any way, you’re a leader. That’s pretty much ALL of us, regardless of title or position.

Some sections of the book overlapped a bit, but overall, it’s packed with practical advice for how to move forward in all those areas listed above. And it’s probably something I’ll refer back to in the future.

First off this book is soooooooooooo long. It took me forever to finish. The book is broken down into smaller sections but as I was reading the whole thing it was only pausing points not stopping points. While every long and kind of boring. this book has tons of excellent advice. John C. Maxwell does not give tons of fluff or tell long stories he takes short lessons to explain his principles. One thing I really liked about this book is that gives you actionable advice that you can not only do in your daily life but also see in others. I will implement many of his strategies in hopes to enhance the people around me. Go and read! This book changes your outlook on people and your responsibility too them.

Primeras impresiones

[Note: This book was provided free of charge by BookLook/Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for an honest review.]

In a book as large as this one, it is worth discussing the best parts of it first. Made up of eight smaller texts averaging about 75 pages apiece, this book is a fundamental and very basic look at different and important aspects of leadership from someone whose books I have often read [1] and it follows along the lines of what I have read from him before. If you like his approach, you will probably find something of value in this book. Each of its eight topics are devoted to at least a slightly different facet of leadership (in order): attitude, self-improvement, leadership, relationships, success, teamwork, equipping, and mentoring. Some of it mirrors my own thoughts and reflections, and none of it is particularly surprising. The author includes a mostly familiar set of examples, a few from the scriptures, more from history, and quite a lot from contemporary business theory and practice. Many of the principles here are in numbered patterns, as ought to be expected from the author. One of the surprises, at least for me, was the fact that this book includes an immensely beautiful poem that was apparently written by Mr. Maxwell himself (208):

“My Influence

My life shall touch a dozen lives
Before this day is done.
Leave countless marks of good or ill,
E’er sets the evening sun.

This, the prayer I always wish,
The prayer I always pray:
Lord, may my life help other lives
It touches by the way.”

Having discussed the best aspects of this book, let us turn to some minor annoyances. For one, this book is about 600 pages long, and it contains about 300 to 400 pages of decent original material. It is not recommended for someone to read this book in one fell swoop, as there is a lot of repetition, to the level of pages and even chapters being identical from one section of this book to another. The fact that there is significant overlap between some of these basic facts does not help matters. One may only remember a small fraction of what one reads, but when the exact same concepts are repeated several times in the same precise language and structure, one wonders exactly how much original thought and reflection went into the creation of the original eight 101 lessons, or how much went into the compilation of this book, which shows no evidence of being updated at all. This is the second book in a row from John Maxwell that has shown evidence of extreme laziness in presentation. I hope this is not a trend to keep a cash cow going as long as it lasts, as he is rapidly losing my own goodwill as a reader.

There is yet more serious difficulties with this book. Often, the author cites his own years in the ministry as a success based on the number of people who were in his congregation (a measurement he uses to judge the success of other ministers as well), and yet this book shows almost no evidence of any deep spiritual leanings, any understanding of the biblical view of leadership whatsoever, a striking omission from someone who had been involved in ministry for more than two decades. This book includes a great deal of “wisdom” that is contrary to scripture, such as the story of a greedy bear, but few biblical examples and no evidence of a genuinely godly approach to leadership. Also, there are some contradictions in the way this book claims that influence rather than position is the true mark of a leader, but consistently looks at title as the foundation and starting point for the development of a leader. It does not appear as if Mr. Maxwell conceives of a way in which people would develop character and influence by virtue of their competence and personality before being given official leadership titles. For all of the talk he makes about paying dues, the author seems to assume that a leader is going to be in a leadership position before ever having deserved it or prepared for it, and will be learning on the job and relying on the goodwill of higher leaders to recognize and reward potential before it is proven. Finding leaders willing to give such leadership opportunities to young and relatively unproven people is not an easy task. It is a pity that Mr. Maxwell has not turned his attention to being a gracious follower, given that only a few people have the titles of leaders, and all have to learn how to handle authority over them, a task that is far more difficult than the sparse record of books devoted to it would indicate. That is, though, the subject of another book, which will have to be written by someone else.

John C. Maxwell's Complete 101 collection is a great book, if you need a pep talk. While he does bring up some interesting points, they are very shallow and don't seem to be well thought out. I'm sure he has other books on each specific topic that go into further detail, but this one really falls short. But because this book will get you thinking, it's worth the read.

The main issue I have with this book is the over use of quotes. At times, the author uses two or three quotes in a paragraph. Quotes are great if you want to get a point across quickly without going into too much detail... which pretty much sums up this whole book.

At times, the author contradicts himself. In Success 101, he talks about focus, and not having too many distractions. He suggests working in your "strength zone" and ignoring everything else. Basically, stop trying to be a "jack of all trades". Later on, he talks about Benjamin Franklin and how great he was (I agree!). He speaks of all the things Franklin was able to accomplish, but Benjamin Franklin is a perfect example of a "jack of all trades", a Renaissance soul. Had he read this book and heeded it's advice of focusing on one area or "strength zone" Franklin would not have accomplished everything he did.

This is a series of eight books from John C. Maxwell's "Leadership 101: What Every Leader Needs to Know" Collection. (Apparently, there are eleven books in the collection, but this only covers the first eight.) I received the Attitude 101 book about three years ago at a company Christmas party and I finally found time during the 2019 -2020 holiday break to read this short motivational book. I then picked up the Self-Improvement 101 book as a follow-up. These two are by far my favorite of the entire series. The material starts being redundant after the fourth or fifth book. However, I also have the audible version of this book and am planning on having this series play over again to reinforce the information. Read separately these are very concise books with valuable keys to building success in your career. The eight books in order of how they appear in the book: Attitude, Self-improvement, Leadership, Relationships, Success, Teamwork, Equipping, and Mentoring. These books definitely reinforced a growth mindset for my personal and career goals.

This is a collection of 8 books in one and the audio version is 17 hours long. I may be forgiven for thinking at times that I’d accidentally re-started a book, or that the audiobook was stuck in a loop, as the author does reference favourite anecdotes repeatedly, and the concepts overlap in places anyway.

It was recommended by a colleague I admire and he did warn me that the author was a faith leader, so I slogged through to find the nuggets of wisdom to apply.

It’s definitely a product of time and place: very white American male centric, with a dutiful wife at home occasionally mentioned in passing.

-Audiolibro-

ESSENTIAL for anyone who wants to begin reading John Maxwell. This collection pretty much covers every single one of his teaching in manageable bite-site pieces (you could seriously read each the 101 books inside in a sitting or two!)

So much value for the amount of time invested—I recommend this collection to everyone who wants to be a leader, and I myself will be rereading these books several times throughout the year.

This was a good overview of the different leadership skills. Maxwell is very good at giving clear and relatable advice for basically anyone. This collection was a bit repetitive though as the books are basically just reprinted verbatim. There is a lot of repetitive ideas across the books which could have been edited.

This is a collection of several shorter books repackaged in a single large volume. I read a couple of them in the past and promised myself I would complete the series. I finally got around to it. John Maxwell is a great author and these volumes have a great deal of information to help equip aspiring leaders. The key is you have to get out and do not just read!

I feel cheated with this book because I only get credit for reading one book, but the book is actually eight books in one. I would advise anybody who buys this book to purchase the hardcover because this is a book you will go back to often, and the paperback gets worn out fast. By the time I finished the book, it looked like a war artifact, so buying the hardcover is best.

I am a HUGE John Maxwell reader. Every time a new book of his is published it goes onto my wishlist. Having the opportunity to review this book was an easy decision for me.

Having stated that, this book is a compilation of eight of John Maxwell's 101 series of book. This compilation consists of:

Attitude 101
Self-Improvement 101
Leadership 101
Relationships 101
Success 101
Teamwork 101
Equipping 101
Mentoring 101

Each of these 101 books is short but direct in each of their respective topics. By being short it also for a quick read in each topic. However, a quick read does not mean an easy read. It may be easy to read the words but what is read has the potential to really challenge the reader.

What I appreciate is the heart behind the 101 series. I heard John Maxwell state that the series is for the busy professional who wants to continue to be better but whose time is limited. Mr. Maxwell wants women and men to be the best they can be and that requires being led. It also requires leaders to recognize that they need to continue their leadership development so they can lead correctly and with influence.

This book is a great place to start and I HIGHLY encourage leaders to get a copy. Maybe get two copies, one for home and one for abroad. It will be well worth it in my opinion.

The Complete 101 Collection What Every Leader Needs to Know By John C. Maxwell is an amazing resource. It combines 8 great books in one volume:

Attitude 101 Attitude is contagious, so make sure your team is catching the right one.
Self-Improvement 101 To improve your life, improve yourself.
Leadership 101 No matter who you are, you can lead?and lead well.
Relationships 101 Great leadership is built on great relationships
Success 101 Success may look different for each person, but the principles remain the same.
Teamwork 101 Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships.
Equipping 101 Leaders with an equipped team possess an edge that will help them win.
Mentoring 101 Multiply your impact by increasing the number of leaders on your team.

This is an amazing book to give to anyone who interested in self improvement and in leadership from a thought provoking and powerful Christian voice. I only discovered John C. Maxwell about a year ago and I find him to be very impressive. He offers practical, straight-forward and sensible advice for anyone and Christians in particular. It is so affordable with the 8 books combined in one volume! Great introduction to so many important topics.

Pick up a copy for yourself or someone you think will benefit. It comes in an ebook and in hard cover.

One of the books that got me back into reading 6 years ago. Maxwell proved to be a guiding light as I was searching for who I wanted to be; for me this book might as well been titled the fundamentals of life. It taught me how to be a decent human being and how to grow and develop yourself as well as other people. It taught me that pursuing goals only for the sake of money is a pointless endeavour, one that will leave you empty in the end. It taught me that at the end of the day, the only person you will have to deal with the rest of your life is you, so just aim to be better than yourself to who you were yesterday (or six years ago) instead of relying on the constant measuring, comparing and ranking society that we live in.

Reading this book again brings back so many memories, memories I intend to relive again for the rest of my life.
